McCain says campaign moves necessary for general election

MEXICO CITY, MEXICO — Sen. McCain admitted today that some recent criticism of his campaign’s performance has been “justified,” but said that the recent elevation of Senior Adviser Steve Schmidt to oversee day-to-day operations is just part the campaign’s transition for the general election.

The presumptive GOP nominee commented on the campaign’s new leadership structure for the first time during an interview Thursday morning with Fox News’ Carl Cameron.

“We’ve had a very great expansion in our campaign and obviously we’re trying to have organizations set up and working in every state,” McCain said, noting that Campaign Manager Rick Davis will remain in his position and maintain overall responsibility. “Steve has been an integral part of our campaign for a long time and he’s just been taking over some more of the responsibilities…all of us thought, including Rick, that it would be better to give Steve some of the more responsibilities, as we’ve given other people more responsibilities as the campaign has expanded.”

Schmidt returned to headquarters to assume greater day-to-day responsibility more than a month ago but officially took over his new role as the political equivalent of a COO this week. The campaign has come under criticism in recent months, even from allies, for an inconsistent message, mismanagement and poorly planned and timed events.

For his part, a candid McCain said his campaign has not been perfect but added that it will be ramping it’s effort going into the final stretch.

“We need to keep doing what we’re doing, only do it a lot harder,” McCain told Cameron. “I’m happy with where we’ve come. I’m happy with where we are. We have been declared dead many times. There’s been much criticism, some of it justified, from the media but somehow we seem to stay in the race and we will stay in…I think I’ll be the underdog right up until a minute before the polls close in California.”

McCain reiterated today that he feels most comfortable campaigning coming from behind, as he did for most of the GOP primary.

“I think though I do best as the underdog and we are within the margin of error in most polls, certainly not all, but I’m confident that that’s when I do best is when I’m the underdog,” he added.

If Obama were to win then the secular progressive agenda

legalize drugs, promote climate hysteria, devalue religion,

promote illegal immigration, take away guns, stop energy development,

dismantle national defense, etc. will move forward.

If McCain does best when he is the underdog, what kind of job will he do if he is the lead dog?

McCain’s problem is the message, not the operation. As a traditional conservative (NOT a neocon), I may vote Democratic for the first time in my life. Both candidates shift positions so much that I’m not sure what we will get. I worry about Supreme Court nominations, but Gerald Ford (after a career trying to impeach Wm O Douglas) gave us Justice Stevens; Bush I gave us Justice Souter; and even President Reagan gave us Justice Kennedy. What will McCain give us? Obama is more right-wing on Israel/Palestine than Bush or Rice, and McCain at times more left-wing than Obama on domestic matters. It’s great if Mr. Schmidt can organize McCain’s schedule and appearances better, but what I want is a clear understanding of what McCain really believes and whether he will stick to it. Ronald Reagan tried to abolish the Dept of Education; Bush II has tried to put it in charge of every school board in the country. I’m tired of conservatives who want bigger government and see the solution to every problem in the federal government.

Of course course correction is necessary when you are trying to repeat the last 8 years. its hard to keep things fundamentally the way things are, serving the few, and avoiding the obvious.

The one thing McCainMcsame wont be able to continue however is Bush’s gift of public speaking. As awkward as John is he will never to better than George as our favorite national embarrassment. http://www.mccainmcsame.com

Some people should not be in the public arena.

The reasons Obama should not are too numerous to mention

but his most liberal of all senate voting record gives

clear insight into the argument. This guy is a clear and present danger

to the world. Dump Obama now!

There are two important campaign moves that McCain needs to make regardless of whom he puts in charge. The first move is for him to understand the disagreement of the American people with his stand on illegal immigration. The majority of the American people are generous and fair minded. I personally agree with the widespread belief that illegal immigration, especially from a country rich in natural resources and without the risk of undeserved imprisonment or death, should not be rewarded. Most Americans view the legal attempt of poor people trying to improve the lives of their families as noble. What is revolting to us is to have someone who cheats on a test or jumps his place in a line to be unjustly rewarded. Businesses and private citizens looking for cheap labor take advantage of illegal immigrants while the illegal aliens often keep our young people from obtaining entry level jobs that teach them the value and responsibilities of work. Handing out unlimited work visas in place of training our young or inventing labor saving devices is not a real solution. We actually need more skilled workers. The second campaign move I believe to be necessary is to swiftly and vigorously expose Obama’s deceiptful TV adds with facts from Obama’s own record or mouth. McCain has to demonstrate his vigor, his “fire in the belly” as well as the compassion he is trying to show.

This is not really news accept that the Obama campaign has had negative comments about Mr. McCain and his people concerning a change that is not very unusual at all. In fact, this is the only story I’ve seen about Mr. McCain at all lately even though he was in Columbia S.A. and was privey to the great hostage excape that just happened. The media has chosen our Messiah-get used to it you idiots!

McCain should be so proud that Karl Rove is on board, helping his campaign.

If McCain thinks he can legitimately preach about national security while he let’s the man who should have been fired and sent to prison for endangering American agents run his campaign, he’s beyond delusional. Of course, that parasite Rove has to find a new host since he can’t be Bush’s brain any longer - and the Bush dynasty is coming to a much-needed end.

This story completely leaves out the fact that McCain’s new man in charge, Steve Schmidt, is a former top Dick Cheney aide. That should tell you everything you need to know about Mr. McSAME. Schmidt is legendary in GOP circles for his bull-dog personality and his relentless personal attacks on the opposition. He is also the king of the Bush/Cheney school of media manipulation. The fact that John McCain has given Schmidt carte blanche authority to engage in his dark art of media manipulation bodes poorly for the remainder of this campaign. Expect to see vicious personal attacks from the McCain campaign from here on out. McCain has realized that he has nothing to run on, and that he loses on the issues, so he’s handing over the reigns to the NeoCons and their smear machine. Lord Vader returns.

This is not really news. Only because the Obama campaign has made negative comments about Mr. McCain and his people in this matter has the media looked at this at all. The changes Mr. McCain has made in his team are not unusual at all. Period! And in fact, this atory is just about the one and only story I’ve seen about Mr. McCain at all recently, while Mr. Obama is at the forefront of almost all news releases. Even though Mr. McCain was in Columbia S.A. and was privey to the great hostage release in Columbia, S.A., (just yesterday) and this certainly indicates great foreign policy savey, the media is completly blind to this very positive accomplishment. The drive by media has chosen our Messiah! Get used to it you ignorant idiots.

“but [McCain] added that it will be ramping it’s effort…” The proper form, of course, is “its.”

It’s (i.e., it is) not that difficult to deal with, especially for professionals.

Hopefully, the new leadership in the McCain Campaign will finally take the gloves off… Obama and his staff have been walking all over the issues and flip floping around without a swing back by McCain. Hey McCain call Obama on all of his slinking to the center issues. Let the American people see the grit and determination you are so famous for exhibiting during all of the strife in your life! Let the American people see some emotion…Knock knock…I know you have it! Now is the time to use it and take Obama to task on his inexperience, judgment, liberal voting record, politician for change…Yeah…right… a change the American people can not afford or endure. Obama is finally showing his true colors and they do not appear to be RED…WHITE…or BLUE. As long as I am on the subject of Obama’s colors…what is this Black American Anthem!
Everyone I know is outraged at the gull of so many in the black community and their attitude regarding this country. The whole black theology issue leaves many questions unanswered, it is all creepy to say the least. Is everyone aware this movement came out of a far left radical movement in South America. Obama and his family sitting in a church for twenty plus years listening to the teachings of this movement sends chills up my spine and also the spines of several family members, friends and associates. My belief is this…there are a lot of Americans, everyday hardworking people who are simmering under the pressure of everyday life. These individuals do not have the time to voice their opinions because they are too busy working and keeping their families running forward. I think come election day when these individuals need to make a decision and after they ponder all the issues…the polls and the outcome of this election will look a lot different then they do at this point in the campaign cycle.

things to know about McCain Pass this on to a friend »For all the coverage this week of Senator John McCain’s background, there are some important things you won’t learn about him from the TV networks 6. Many of McCain’s fellow Republican senators say he’s too reckless to be commander in chief. One Republican senator said: “The thought of his being president sends a cold chill down my spine. He’s erratic. He’s hotheaded. He loses his temper and he worries me.”7
McCain talks a lot about taking on special interests, but his campaign manager and top advisers are actually lobbyists. The government watchdog group Public Citizen says McCain has 59 lobbyists raising money for his campaign, more than any of the other presidential candidates get the rest at: http://pol.moveon.org/mccain10/email.html?rc=homepage

Maybe they’ll advise him to stop saying “my friends” in each of his speeches. I am NOT his friend, and neither is any free-thinking American citizen. He represents a furthering of the Bush agenda, and must be stopped. Obama is little better. We are forced to choose between garbage, once again, because the American public refuses to open their eyes, turn off their TVs, and look around at what’s really going on. We now live in a fascist state. Deal with it.
