Obama Takes On Dobson, Black, and Bill Clinton

Barack Obama says Charlie Black was wrong to say that a terrorist attack would help John McCain in November; that he spoke to Hillary Clinton today and is trying to reach out to her husband; and that Christian leader James Dobson distorted his words on religion in a wide ranging media availability in the back of his press plane.

Obama wandered back to speak to reporters in the middle of a flight from Las Vegas to Los Angeles for an informal bull session with reporters — a tactic encouraged by his campaign as a way to counter an aloof image he’s cultivated with his traveling press corps. But after asking about basketball, gambling, and the trinkets from voters he carries with him, reporters pressed him on the record on whether he’s spoken with the ex-president who so often belittled him on the campaign trail.

“I’m sure we will,” said Obama. “He’s in Europe right now which is the only reason we haven’t spoken. But were looking forward to setting up a long conversation.” Obama praised the former president as a great strategist who’s “as smart as they come.” But Clinton’s commitment to campaigning for Obama has come into question, so much so that a spokesman for the ex-president had to release a statement reaffirming his support for the Illinois Senator.

Obama also accused Focus on the Family leader James Dobson of twisting a speech on religion he gave in 2006. On his radio program today, Dobson took aim at Obama’s argument that certain Biblical passages shouldn’t be taken as guides for public policy — saying “I think he’s deliberately distorting the traditional understanding of the Bible to fit his own worldview, his own confused theology… He is dragging biblical understanding through the gutter.”

Suggesting that anyone writing about the tiff should read his entire speech, Obama said “any notion that I was distorting the Bible in that speech, I think would be — someone would be pretty hard pressed to make that argument.”

“Make sure to read the speech, I think you’ll see that he was making stuff up. Maybe for his own purposes,” he said.

And on the now-infamous Charlie Black quote, Obama called the argument that a future terror attack helps McCain factually incorrect. “This is from the folks who engineered what I consider to be one of the biggest foreign policy disasters in our history,” he said. “We’ve got bin Laden sending out audio tapes. We’ve got an interactive al Qaeda website that is a powerful recruitment tool. We’ve got the situation backsliding in Afghanistan and homeland security issues that are still being unattended to in the United States. So I’m happy to have that debate about who is actually going to be stronger on terrorism.”

“The broader point which has been made not just by Democrats but by Republicans, is there are certain things that should transcend politics, and I think the prospect of a terrorist attack on American soil is one of them,” he said. Asked whether Black should be fired, Obama said that’s up to McCain.

obama cannot “Take on” anyone - he can’t even debate McCain - so much for our guy of Change, Hope and Unity. Bill Clinton owes obama - zero!
And obama is hardly qualified to give religion Bible advice to anyone - he learned from Wright!
He is NOT qualified to lead our country either - this guy is a FRAUD!

Comment by AGT-R

I am tickled pink that someone is at last rattling his cage. I hope there are more people out there calling him on his many double-talk statements. Obama is constantly adjusting his speech to the public in front of him. Mr. Dobson is absolutely right! Obama is a scary liberal, who makes Hillary Clinton look like a pilar of conservatism!

Comment by Dave

That James Dobson would accuse anyone but himself of distorting the Bible is simply laughable - but so sad. Why does this angry, judgmental hypocrite get airtime???

Comment by Jenny J

If Bush and Co. “engineered one of the greatest Foreign Policy Disasters in history,” then you have something to strive for, Barry. We’re sure you can do worse.

And while you’re at it just keep picking on everyone who has something reasonable to say about you. All three of your supporters might begin to believe it.

Why am I not surprized… As time moves forward and more is know about Obama… one gets the sense that Obama is about Obama. What drives him to maintain questionable relationhips… his own progression…

Comment by America First

Dr. Dobson was giving his opinion of Barack Obama’s speech and interpretation of the Bible. Dr. Dobson has the right to express his opinion especially on his own radio show.

Obama told reporters,”I think you’ll see that HE WAS MAKING STUFF UP maybe for his own purposes.

Basically Obama is calling Dr. Dobson a liar to the entire world.

If you criticize Barack Obama, you will be attacked.

Our country will never be the same if Obama is elected President.

God Bless America!

The people posting on these blogs need to look at the big picture here. They must look at the issues that matter.

- Iraq
- Energy Crisis/Housing crisis
- Economy

These are the issues that matter. Not Obama’s “black liberation theology” or his religion, or his patriotism. These are meaningless issues being used to deflect the failed policies of the GOP over the last 8 years.

What is the GOP actually brining to the table this election? What exactly? An endless war, continued addiction to oil, a “you’re on your own healthcare and economic policy?” I mean if you look at the choice before us it is simple.

For some reason however it seems the majority of conservatives can’t get past their prejudices, both political and social and look at this election with a clear head. The GOP are liars and incompetent. Obama is naive? How are his policies more naive than our current foreign policy? A policy with the goal of changing “hearts and minds” in the Middle East in order to promote democracy? Read a history book. Other powers have all failed at this task.

I voted for Bush but now realized that I was lied to and manipulated over the last 8 years. I am no longer drinking the kool-aide!

————————————-

Obama oughta know - it’s what his whole campaign is about - making stuff up for his OWN purposes! Obama sat in Wright’s church for 20 long years…what the hell does he know about the Bible! Probably about as much as he knows about US geography…according to Obama the US has 57 states! I guess in Obamaland there are 57 states…(Islamic states that is).

Comment by Texas Veteran

Let’s see….BO cannot debate McCain on National Security…this would be futile since BO has no credentials AT ALL on National Security…but then an Ostrich has no credentials. ( For those who do not understand, an Ostrich buries its head in the sand and refuses to see the world for what it really is ). Let’s see…20/20 hindsight is always perfect. And, of course, it is always that BO is misunderstood or has “mis-spoken”..that is the new buzz word now.

As to democrats….Pelosi promised a lot of things and nothing has been produced except higher prices all around….when the dems took control of the house and senate….there was no $4 per gallon and no shortage of rice.

Obama is a socialist! Many people do not want a black president because of racial feelings. However, I am not opposed to a black president. The mans color makes no difference to me but his leftist ideology is a problem. I do not think we can afford Mr. Obama. The issue is whether or not the United States as we know it will continue. We have seen an increase in the cost of living and a decrease in our personal liberties. Obama will bring change that puts a greater burden on small businesses and working families. He is no friend to the working man or woman. I think he will be elected because of the disasterous Bush administration.

The thing we need to do is take care of Americans first. We can no longer afford to mantain the global empire we have. If we do not concern ourselves with matters at home there will not be an America for our children.

Comment by connie

Say it llike it is. Thanks Dr. Dobson. Obama is a dangerous fool. Obama has slapped Christians in the face once again. How much longer must we AMERICANS endure Obama’s lies.

Comment by B

My first response was, “Great, now we have religious leaders arguing over Sen. Obama.” Then it occurred to me. Didn’t Sen. Obama campaign on uniting the country? His own party is split and he keeps dividing the country. As recent as Sunday Sen. Obama said, “Did they mention I was black?” There seems to be a spirit of arrogance, elitism, and even some confrontation about him. And then again, his spiritual advisor of 20 years has the same characteristics. I am not sure that is coincidental.

Comment by Rudy NYC

The founding fathers of the US designed separation of church and state into the laws of this country. Legislating morality is a very difficult thing to do in a democracy that supports freedom of SPEECH AND RELIGION.

Dobson has expressed his opinions of Obama’s speech. Obama expressed his opinion Dobson’s critique. Let Freedom Ring!

Comment by Rudy NYC

Black’s comments, whoever true they may be, are simply impolitic today. Some would view them as patriotic, others as endangering our national security tantamount to “inciting a riot.”

Comment by Johnathan Granger

You people are brilliant.

Dobson essentially calls Obama a liar for “deliberately distorting the understanding” of the bible, Obama retaliates by saying Dobson is making stuff up. You people then say Obama is attacking Dobson? Who attacked who first?

I understand partisan behaviour but see things for what they are. Dobson did it for attention, Obama did it for attention.

The hilarity of it all is people who are clearly biased making comments and swearing that they are somehow objective. I wish that one day we could all stop being stupid and judge the candidates based on their policy positions and not on this side show garbage that some of you seem to sop up off your plates with bread and biscuits.

Comment by Derek

It is so strange that when people deliberaely tell lies about Obama he should not corrected them. Should I dear to say that different sects and cults and religious organizations claiming to be followers of Jesus Christ such as the latter day saints, the moonies etc all have their own interpretations of the bible and the differences sometimes are unbelieveable.

Comment by Mike

Obama takes on Dr. Dobson concerning interpretation of the Bible. This after 20 years with Wright as his religious mentor. I think I got it.

Comment by connie

I’m really so sick of the Bush bashing. He has kept us safe on American soil and noone
wants to give him any credit for it. Carter started the down trend of America and
when Clinton had a chance to get Bin Laden before the 911 attack he was to chicken
hearted and was more interested in what it would do in the polls. Come on people
at least Bush doesn’t check the polls before trying to do what is best for the American
people. Yes he has made mistakes but at least he has tired and that’s more than I
can say about the left liberal wing of the dems that has caused most of the problems that
we are seeing now. Two years ago we were not in that bad of shape until the left

While suturing a cut on the hand of a 75 year old Texas rancher, whose hand was caught in a gate while working cattle, the doctor struck up a conversation with the old man. Eventually the topic got around to Obama and his bid to be our President.
The old rancher said, ‘Well, ya know, Obama is a ‘post turtle’.
Not being familiar with the term, the doctor asked him what a ‘post turtle’ was.
The old rancher said, ‘When you’re driving down a country road and you come across a fence post with a turtle balanced on top, that’s a ‘post turtle’.’
The old rancher saw a puzzled look on the doctor’s face, so he continued to explain. ‘You know he didn’t get up there by himself, he doesn’t belong up there, he doesn’t know what to do while he is up there, and you just wonder what kind of a dumb a** put him up there.’

OBAMA IS A POST TURTLE

Comment by Truevote

I was extremely disappointed when Dr. Dobson didn’t endorse Mike Huckabee until too late. But, I have to say that I am THRILLED that Dr. D. is taking Obama to task now! YOU GO, DR. D!!! “Barrack Obama is just a puppet-on-a-string. Put him in front of a crowd at a “townhall meeting” and he’d be unable to respond coherently! That is why he isn’t accepting the debate-style McCain has offered-because he can’t talk sense off the cuff-he has no experience to draw from and no idea of how the country can be run! Obama is coached to say what he thinks you want to hear. Liberal magazines have the Obama’s on the covers of their magazines that want you to think they represent the values of “family” and “faith”. This is hogwash! The Wright situation is exactly what it appears to be. The Obama’s sat in that pew at that church for 20 years and you can’t tell me that the hate-filled venom that was drilled into the minds of those parrishoners went in one ear and out the other over 20 years. Something made the Obama’s want to continue to attend that church; to have their children baptized there and stay. Obama’s wife is also being managed to “soften” her image from the hard-nosed, bitter b_ _ _ _ she really is. Obama’s managers don’t want to unnecessarily offend anyone by any unsensitive and derogatory remarks she might let slip. I just hope that the American people have begun to realize that this person is a charade, managed and coached by the extreme left. GOD FORBID that this man becomes our next president! Electing him would be the WORST thing we, as God-loving Americans, could ever do to this great country of ours!

barack is an obvious liar. He continues to use the excuse that folks are twisting his words. As eloquent a speaker as everyone claims he is, you would think he could communicate what he is trying to say a little better.

A rep from Focus on the Family said it best when asked about Barack’s claim that Dr. Dobson was twisting his words:

UPDATE: Responding to the comments, Tom Minnery, senior vice president of Focus Action, said “There is no need to ‘make stuff up’ as it relates to Sen. Obama’s interpretation of Scripture and the role of religion in the public square.”

“His statements and record make clear his questionable perception of both. To argue that the Sermon on the Mount invalidates the Defense Department - as if Jesus Himself didn’t have anything to say about the existence of good and evil and the need to combat evil - is about as deep as anyone needs to go to understand where the senator is coming from,” Minnery also said. “He is editing God’s word to fit his liberal worldview, and the more exposure his views on these matters get, the more obvious this will become to American Christians.”

Obama has no clue what it takes to be a Christian. He has misinterpreted the Bible for his own political gain. A watered down version of the Bible is not what I want. Go to “Focus on the Family.com” to hear the whole speech that Obama gave. It is scary.

By the way, everyone needs to Google: Obama’s fight against ‘dirty oil’ could hurt oil sands. This political move on Obama’s part could hurt our relationship with Canada.

I believe that Al Gore is behind Obama’s push for renewable energy.

Another Google for all of you is: FISA. Congress is taking special interest money from ATT and other lobbyists to change their vote on this FISA bill. I guess it’s politics as usual. Do you really believe that Congress will change it’s strips if Obama becomes President? I know I don’t. As a matter of fact, I believe Obama is part of the statis quo.

Anyway, God bless America.

What has ever happened to discussing the positions of the candidates on matters that count. All I read here is “he said, she said”. Both candidates have distanced themselves from their respective religious supporters. Why? To get away from this mindless drivel. It matters NOT!!!

Let’s hear about policies on economics, education, energy, green house gases, foreign policy. I would love to hear some meaningful comments about something other than old/young, Black/White, Muslim/Christian, this supporter said this/that supporter said that. I think most comments are coming from the heart rather than from the brain. People, you’re using the wrong part of your anatomy.

So…. they haven’t spoken because Bill is in Europe, and ….a terrorist attack would not benefit John McCain. Had Barack responded, “I haven’t any desire to speak with Bill,” and “Polls do seem to suggest that John McCain is stronger on this issue than I am,” — he might well have convinced me that he’s the candidate of hope and change. But, alas….

And to ruffdeeszt….change the channel.

I must be one of those bad bad people who are a racist bigot and are out to get him because he is black, please forgive me.

Comment by Robin C

Yeah, right, Obama is ready to debate McCain “anywhere, anytime” but when McCain tried to set up Townhalls, Obama said only one on 7/04 in the evening and take it or leave it. Nice. Way to be honest and up front, Senator. You can’t debate something you know nothing about. Why has your own committee on Afghanistan failed to meet? It’s up to you to set the meetings and you have been too busy campaigning for “change” to do your job. Where is the failure and “back sliding” in Afghanistan? Do you know? Is that true or are you just being a politician? How do we know when we don’t really know what you believe? Gotta hand it to you, you learned your law school lessons well…typical lawyer double speak.

ruffdeezy, why are you at fox.com if you don’t like their policies? They have actually been the most fair and balanced all during this primary season. You are mistaken. I don’t see a Fox commentator or show host getting any kind of warm fuzzy, dizzy, tingly or whatever feeling from any of the candidates…at least if they are they don’t talk about it…(hint, hint, Chris Mathews and Keith Olberman). Go away if you don’t like Fox…the rest of us rely on them to get the straight scoop.

Dobson is right.

Obama’s religion and faith is way to the left. it is so far away from a traditional religion.

You may say Christian and Obama say Christian and they are from 2 different realms. You can not even compare them.

Obamas faith is from Black liberation Theology which he embraces as his faith. It is more of a Political religion than a traditional religion.

http://www.culturekitchen.com/liza/blog/james_cone_on_black_liberation_theology

The religion and faith Obama was instructed on was a doctrine made to that churches liking, to serve their purpose.

THE HIRELING FLEES BECAUSE HE IS A HIRELING, AND CARETH NOT FOR THE SHEEP. I AM THE GOOD SHEPHERD, AND I KNOW MY SHEEP, AND AM KNOWN OF MINE”

I will NEVER believe anything Osama, oh wait… Obama will say in regard to his alleged belief in Christianity.

How could I? After spending 20 years listening to and endorsing super hater Rev. Wrong, oh wait…. Rev. Wright.

News flash: God is no respecter of men!! Just because we call him Reverend does not mean that God is behind what is clearly his (Rev. Wright) personal agenda/vendetta.

If this is a Christian nation, then Obama is the alternate choice.

Liberals do NOTHING but freakin’ whine ~ while ~ Conservatives actually get things done!

BTW: My comments are not based on race as so many of you would wish. This is about who I believe to be the right man for the job of President. I would have preferred Hillary over Obama… even though I can’t stand the woman (and her husband).

It is always entertaining to read the careless rants of holier-than-thou conservatives, but it is also upsetting. How foolish to waste your time celebrating hatred and divisiveness via cold, rigid theology, when the public figures and the party that you imagine speak for your faith are busy destroying your country via purely secular means. And don’t forget that whoever you vote for - it won’t be a vote for God, it will be a vote for a sinner: Luke 18:19

So do yourselves a favour and vote with your brains, not your copy of Calvin’s Institutes.

___________________________________________________________________________________

Iraq - regardless of whether you’re person enough to admit it, or not, things are improving. I’m sick and tired of hearing how BO voted against the war when he wasn’t even a freaking US Senator - he COULDN’T vote on it - DUH!

Energy Crisis/Housing crisis - John McCain is not only willing to come up with “now” solutions, he’s looking at “later” solutions, also. I don’t know about everyone else, but even if biofuel autos and more hybrids were available, I couldn’t afford one. I’m paying for a gas one, now! Housing crisis???? I work two freaking jobs to pay for my house, pay bills, buy groceries and put my daughter through school. Sure, some folks got a bad rap - I could say the same - but I don’t. I WORK TWO JOBS! I’m tired of folks thinking everything is a freaking entitlement!

Economy - Sure, let BO get in there and raise taxes and place a tax on windfall profits. Who in the world do you think is going to pay for all of those taxes? The corporations? Obama? The Tax Fairy? NO! You, I and every other tax payer will.

I have looked at the issues. I follow them - daily. Please don’t insult my intelligence - that’s being done enough throughout this election process.

Food for thought…couldn’t sleep either so decided to get this off my mind…
Its bad when you can’t sleep over an election…lol,, I have never been so involved…anyway here is what kept me awake:

If Pelosi or say Dean owned a company ( which they think they own the DNC ) and they needed to fill a job for the president of one of their branches.. They would look though resumes to find the best candidate for that job…. most likely they wouldn’t even make an appointment with Obama
because of lack of experience. But had they decided they would interview him…they would do a back ground check before they even made the appointment to talk with him ( because of sercurity reasons )….Ok so they do the background check and find he is associated with Bill Ayers, and Rezco. OOPs red-light… they wouldn’t even give him the time of day. But in reality…Pelosi, Dean and the DNC want to hire this man for the most important job in the world. OK….But 18 million didn’t want to hire him…They found someone with more experience.

You just hit the “wake-up call nail” on the heads of those people, who have been so blindly eager in pursuing after a hollow and illusory CHANGE fad these days, they even don’t bother to scrutinize that who will be the most qualified man to lead us for the change and positive results.
If we just use our common sense calmly, there is no way we can afford to HIRE this man as the head of this great country, all the experiences under his belt up to date are nothing else but talks, talks and talks…..
You know, glen, if any local community college or university needs a political science 101 professor in the near future, he should be considered by any board of trustee as the #1 choice though!

Juelz, let me just ask you a simple question which is; have you ever turned in your own resume, or reviewed one belongs to some one else? If the answer is YES
to either case, then what would be the most important section that has to be looked at it twice, and even has to be considered it more than twice on the resume? The answer is as simple as to count 1,2,3; that is the applicant’s WORK EXPERIENCES! Nothing else is more meaningful and important than this requirement, which is also a MUST element in order to meet any specific job’s needs in the different field.
Obama’s experience???????? Any average intelligent individual in this country even shouldn’t think about it, that he would be qualified to be elected as the head of this great nation on earth, period!
Is this “common-sense” enough to all of us? I believe it is!
