McCain says Holder role in Rich pardon an issue
done
BOSTON, MA– One day after his campaign helped force the resignation of one senior member of Sen. Obama’s VP selection team, Sen. McCain took aim today at Eric Holder–another member of that group .
“I think it is a matter of record that Mr. Holder recommended the pardoning of Mr. (Marc) Rich. And all those things will be taken into consideration by the media and the American people, especially when you are entrusting individuals with one of the most important decisions that a presidential candidate can make before that individual is elected and that is who the running mate is,” McCain told reporters a press conference Wednesday, referencing Holder’s role at the Department of Justice in the Clinton administrations controversial pardoning of the financier.
His call comes less than 24 hours after Jim Johnson’s resignation as an Obama VP vetter, who came under scrutiny for loans he received from Countrywide–a shady mortgage lender that Obama criticized on the trail.
But McCain deferred comment today when asked about Johnson’s resignation, despite calling his involvement in Obama’s campaign a “contradiction” on Monday.
“On the resignations, or should-be resignations, I think people in the media and observers will make a decision as to whether these people, individuals should be part of Senator Obama’s campaign,” McCain said.

Well is McCain going to attack Caroline Kennedy next? I thought he agreed to keep this a clean fight about the issues. Seems his whole strategy is throwing crap because he doesn’t have a plan to fix anything. Is there anyone out there without spot or blemish? Let he who is without sin throw the first stone.
And who said Countrywide was “shady”? They used to be the largest lender and did a lot of good loans for a lot of good people!
Unbelievable–McCain has the gall to criticize Holder when McCain himself was instrumental in supporting the crook Charles Keating whose failed Savings & Loan cost we the taxpayers 3.4 Billion Dollars. After receiving $112,000 in contributions from Keating and friends, Mr. Straight Talk spoke out in support of Keating. After Keating’s fall, McCain was rebuked by the Senate for his behavior. Can you spell hypocrite?
McCain is in no position to criticize Obama’s staff members as inappropriate. He apparently has a short memory concerning problems with his own campaign workers, several of whom were lobbyists found to have conflicting relationships, forcing them to drop out. He’s obviously confused about that issue too.
Everyone has things in their past and if this type of vetting contiues who ever becomes President will have the White House to themselves. Empty rooms because no-one got past the vetting process! This needs to stop! If they think anyone cares they are wrong! Its the issues GUYS! The ISSUES!
The Obama camp is showing poor response by remaining on the defensive when McCain attacks. By continually attacking, Mccain is diverting attention from the important issues and picking on the little bits of garbage surroundind Obama. However many people will not understand this art of reverse propaganda.Remember we are dealing with a nation which voted George Bush for a second term when all the signs pointed to America’s destruction. They could do it again and make things worse. Shocking but true. There are people who will vote for McCain because McCain brought Obama”s adviser as a bigger issue that a failed ecomomy which his party caused. I am sure that McCain has much more dirty linen in his stinking closet. Obama must find these and counter with them because they are effective in the long run. Obama camp must work harder at finding these “ghosts”. Its time to put this clean campaign tatics aside, because the grass root voter is not respecting you for this. Get on board the dirty train or you will loose your ride. Mccain is picking up a big following who refuse to remember
1. Iraq Disaster is of McCain making. He boasts on it.
2. Iraq plays a major role in the American economic situation.
3. The fuel crisis is indirectly a result of Iraq. Oil companies decided to exploit a situation and America did not have the money to stop them. As a matter of fact may nations now laugh at America because she lost her power when she threw away her money.
In the light of all these people will still vote McCain. It is called gulibility. I call it Stupidity.
[...] that Jim Johnson has been dispatched, the McCain camp’s (and by extension the GOP’s) next target is Eric Holder, another questionable member of Obama’s VP vetting team. “I think it is a [...]
I think John McCain need to resign because he was a traitor during the Vietman war. He broke down and talked. He was weak. We need a strong president.
Reminds me of magicians–”Don’t look at what’s really going on, just keep your eye on issues that don’t really matter. That what you won’t think about the economy, gas prices, or our failed involvement in the Middle East.”
That must be one tall box they put him on. At 5′7″ he is somehow level or taller than most of people behind him.
McCain is about 20 years late complaining about a Presidential Pardon. Presidents can only make Pardons not Assistant Attorney Generals. Another Non Story.
Yaaawwwwnnnn. Another day in the McSame GOP slander machine.
McCain’s shameless hypocrisy as he keeps surrounding himself with the same old lobbyist cronies. Doesn’t he have something to say of substance?
Guess not.
This is distraction. Is Senator Mccain loosing the trends of hardship, high gas prices, high unemployment, foreclosures and numerous economic woes that all Americans are being subjected to in this recessive economy? Rather than focusing on solutions to the economic woes and the plight of the citizens, he chose to discuss Veepee vetters Jim Johnson and Holder. Are the Democratic Veepee vetters the solution to the economic crisis in the nation?
Do I understand this? After all the years McCain spent in Washington claiming to be Mr. Clean, he now wastes valuable campaign time which could be used to have an intelligent dialog about all of the important issues facing the country. Instead of discussing those issues he is practicing the same old, tired dirty Republican politics of distraction trying to spread fear, uncertainty, and doubt in the minds of potential voters. So what does that say about John McCain?
Obviously John McCain hasn’t figured it out yet. The American people are tired of hearing this nonsense from their politicians. Stop the hypocritical posturing, and if you ever gave us any “straight talk,” let’s get back to that. Tell us what you propose to do as President that will change the dysfunctional politics in Washington. Don’t just offer more of the same, because most Americans will reject that.
Atta boy, Johnny … don’t stop asking about Obama’s inner circle. Obama might think his “anti-smear” web site is the only explanation we need for his associations, but that’s only what Obama says, what he wants us to hear. Let’s drag it all out on the table. Johnson, Holder, why Caroline Kennedy is qualified to pick a vice president (search me), Ayers, Dohrn, Rezko, Auchi, and other members in good standing of the Chicago Combine. And for those of you trying to wave the “Keating 5″ story in our faces as a “distraction” from Obama’s shady associations, do a little research. e.g., from Wikipedia: “On his Keating Five experience, McCain said: “The appearance of it was wrong. It’s a wrong appearance when a group of senators appear in a meeting with a group of regulators, because it conveys the impression of undue and improper influence. And it was the wrong thing to do.” Federal regulators ultimately filed a civil suit against Keating. The five senators came under investigation for attempting to influence the regulators. In the end, none of the senators were charged with any crime. McCain was rebuked by the Senate Ethics Committee for exercising “poor judgment”,[88] but their 1991 report said that McCain’s “actions were not improper nor attended with gross negligence and did not reach the level of requiring institutional action against him.” Looks like McCain takes responsibility for his actions … I can’t imagine him playing cat and mouse with the public and the press over a Rev. Wright. Obama is America’s number one bus driver … he throws ‘em under the bus and then he drives over ‘em. That includes his typical white woman grandma, too. But John McCain won’t be under your bus, Barack so look out.
Sharon,
How do you know what McCain did or not, were you there?
McCain was not the driving force for Johnson or Holder. B.O. says he prefers a “steady rise” in gas prices. Does not talk about bringing prices down, just punishing the oil companies by taxing them. They just pass the cost of doing business to us, the consumer. McCain brough this up. Unemployment right now, is basically the same as when Clinton was in office. Credit problems and foreclosures are the problems of those who over extended. The government and the taxpayer has no business subsidizing those who could not afford a house and abused their credit cards. If you cannot afford gas, take the bus, if you cannot afford the credit card, get rid of it, and if you cannot pay the rent, move to a cheaper place. Remember, your “boy” is part of that monied group. How can he relate to us? He does not. You seem very confused.

Gee Sharon, what drives you to make such an “idiotic” statement. Do you, kool-aid drinkers, and liberals feel entitled to re-write history. It must be hell to wake up in the morning, look in the mirror, and see such a “dumb ass” staring back.

Pathetic … and Depressing
Rep or Dem, truth counts. I personally am tired of the lies, the spin, the BS, the focus-shifts.
The economy is in the toilet, our kids are being killed in an invasion, I can’t sell my house, and my retirement fund is worth poo. ’nuff said.
“People Who Live In Glass Houses Should Not Throw Stones”
It seems McCain has his own glass house to worry about. His top advisor Carly Fiorina is accused of “TRADING WITH ENEMY.” by FORBS magazine.

If that is the best grandpa and his party can do the white supreamisct are in for a world of disappointment.
educate us since you know so much losers. You have no proof of anything, yet you keep criticizing Obama. Simple racism…since you can’t give any other reason.
McCain the traitor will not be President. Too weak. Too old.
BO DOES NOT say he prefers a steady rise in gasoline prices…stop parsing words and taking things out of context. This is 2008, we can all research for ourselves on the internet.
You are so beyond ignorant is isn’t funny anymore. Your intentions are so obvious and stupid. I can’t wait until you whine for 4 years after you have a black President, whitey!
McCain econ policies can not be explained by anyone because they are failures. Cut government revenue but perpetuate the war? How do you plan to pay for this GOP, earmarks…sorry that is less than 10% of McBushs revenue loss. Try again.
Issues people issues. Kepp sticking to them and the GOP is done. All they have is racist rhetoric and lies they can and will never prove.
I am an independent and a supporter of Obama, but I think it is important to support him honestly.
Thus, in that mindset, I have to agree that Obama did say that he would prefer a steady rise in gas prices.
HOWEVER…
Preferences are relative and in that interview Obama was saying that he would have preferred a slow steady rise in gas prices, which would give american families time to adjust, rather than sharp sudden increases in gas prices.
When you consider that, then what he said is a complete non-issue, and those who made a fuss about it are either playing by the usual strategy of dishonest politics, or are mindlessly echoing those dishonest words.
The tactic right now seems to be that if they keep flinging enough muck at Obama then eventually, regardless of whether or not that muck is true, some will stick.
To those who are creating or propogating such rumors (regardless of political affiliation) I have this reminder, when you throw filth YOUR hands get dirty.
Let’s keep it clean people, we deserve that for ourselves. Any candidate who cannot earn our vote based on their own merit, who can only make derisive comments about their opponent, probably doesn’t deserve our vote anyway. And we, as supporters on both sides, should be exemplars of the type of campaigns we want to see and support.
