McCain hits Obama on Johnson “contradiction”

WASHINGTON, DC — Sen. John McCain attacked his Democratic rival Monday for contradicting himself by naming an official to his campaign who allegedly received preferential loan treatment from a controversial mortgage company that Sen. Barack Obama has been criticizing on the trail.

“I think it suggests a bit of a contradiction talking about how his campaign is gonna be not associated with people like that. Clearly he is very much associated with that,” McCain told Fox News’ Carl Cameron in an interview today, referring to Jim Johnson who Obama has tapped to head up his VP search process.

The Wall Street Journal reported Saturday that Johnson received more than $7 million in loans from Countrywide Financial, at least two of which were at below-market rate, stemming from a relationship with the company’s CEO, Angelo Mozilo.

See more of Carl Cameron’s interview with the presumptive GOP nominee tonight on Special Report.

See full interview below, where McCain also says an Obama presidency would be a second term for President Carter.

How about McCain’s role as a member of the Keating Five, five Senators — Dennis DeConcini, Alan Cranston, John Glenn, Don Riegle and John McCain — who had received, for both themselves and for groups they supported, well over $1 million from Keating in the 1980s as favors and political contributions. They later met twice with regulators who were investigating American Continental Corporation, in an attempt to end the investigation. (In 1991, they would be rebuked to various degrees by the Senate Ethics Committee.)

Now - there’s some “fair and balanced” news!

Not a suprise. Obama has already contradicted himself about stopping por barrel spending. He has already requested $400,000 dollars to help Chocago’s Shedd Aquarium implement a juvenile delinquency program. Why would he need to ask for the money whe the Aquarium has started a fund raising capaign for $100 million dollars. He also contradicted himself by saying he was going to bring buisinesses back to the U.S. and jobs also. How does he think he is going to dothat when he and Hilery have been courting certain latin american country’s about implamenting a Free trade Act for those country’s. If that was to happen then buisinesses wouild be moving to those country’s in favor of cheap labor and more jobs would be lost here in the U.S. The first 1-2 years should be very interesting. He will have a rough time of it trying to get the congress and senate to back any of his “brain storms” like socializing medical care and education and some other programs. People are complaining of payin high tax’s now, if he has his way tax’s will be even higher than they are now, besides socialization has not worked in any country that it has been tryed in yet

I am getting a little confused what carl Cameron’s role is. Is he a foxnews reporter or a propaganda machine for John Mccain. This guy needs to get his act straight. He sounds as desparate as the Mccain Campaign. fair and Balanced Eh!! ha ha ha

As an 80 year old white republican; I am switching over to Obama. McCain, older than he thinks can not lead America. Being an ex marine is not a guarantee for one to be an able president of a Country. I call on John McCain to give the youths a chance! Go Obama 08..U have my vote and the votes of my household

McCain surely don’t waste any time when it comes to sticking his hands into mud. That shows a fear of losing to someone that he would have never wanted in the White House. It is a turnoff when you see a well established politician resort to mud slinging to up hold and order that has failed us for 8yrs. When he campaign against his own party member George Bush (Baby Bush or tumble weed) he went to the mud gun then. I know when you find out what one person loves the most, this will be the very same thing he will sell you out for. John McCain you tend to live up to your first name because you are just as your name describes you as “a john” yes you are full of sH#$. Talk about what you can do for the nation and not about what associates your component has. The very man you criticized, you also accepted his endorsement. (Tumble weed). You will not make it to the White House because you are like the Bills and the Vikings. You will got to the big dance but never carry the title.

I remain

You’d think he’d learn a lesson from Hill/Bill and others on the mud slinging. Where did that get them?

Header, if this Johnson case gets 1/10 as much attention and media coverage as the Keating Five I think McCain would be well satisfied. I guess maybe even more is needed, since you don’t seem to recall that McCain was exonerated.

Hey, PAT, McCain was Navy, not Marines. I guess you are a good example of old guys being too stupid to be President, but since BO believes there are what, 57 states in the USA, you don’t have to be old. I bet McCain knows how many states there are. (In his case it’s not the years, it’s the mileage. Why don’t you remind us how the teeth they knocked out in the Hanoi Hilton aren’t as pretty as Obama’s.)

I won’t call you a liar (about being “an 80 year old white republican” ;) since you are probably just nuts and will probably believe tomorrow that you are a fried egg.

SMS, one way to compete on integrity is to show the other guy doesn’t have any.

Khaliph, you’re not a citizen, so you can’t vote, right? Good, so rant and BS all you want.

I’m sorry, is this really the most important thing to discuss at this point? Sure: I don’t like that preferential treatment crap. And Obama, if aware of it, should condemn it — though I’m not sure it’s even worth booting the guy, depending on the big picture. But come on: with an seemingly endless war on and an economy going down the drain, this is McCain’s top issue? Ugh. Very depressing.

Be ashamed of yourself, very ashamed, if you take any pleasure from these ad hominem attacks from either side. Even if they ultimately win the election, we all lose when we don’t choose a leader who’s primary goal is to bring us together and to address the issues.

Let’s elevate things. I want to see a real discussion between these two respectable men, one where they avoid fallacious attacks and tell us how they plan to improve the nation.

Here’s to a stronger, better America and world.

It’s not suprising that Obama has ties to that person. He also has ties to a couple of criminals that raised funds for him that are from illinois. They are currently under inditement for their criminal activities. I suppose that he will say that he had no knowledge of any of this while getting money from the two in question. They both have prior records. Obama is looking worse by the day. He will never last the whole four years in office.

Man, you people just keep making things up. You fill in where the media leaves off. Like Obama is supposed to know every deal that was made between two people that he didn’t even work with. This is why he has three people looking for possible running mates. Did he take anything from him. Is he going to be the VP. You people are so full of it, it’s coming out your ears. I didn’t hear tucker bounds running to McCains rescue when Obama told everyone that those corporate tax cuts McCain was going to hand out were going to add to our debt by another 5.7 trillion over the next decade. Sometimes I wonder who is running for president in the republican party. Good old Tucker seems to be doing all of the talking. McCain’s corrupt ass has been involved in so many shady deals I’m surprised he made it this far. You Hillary supporters are at it again with your guilt by association crap. All those lobbyist’s that McCain got rid of, he knew everything about them. He has worked with them for years. None of this matters because you are willing to overlook everything to get your sweet Hillary into the whitehouse. You people are just as bad as the corrupt trash that is running our country into the ground right now. Good luck with your boy John. He thinks President Putin is the president of Germany. What a moron.

McCain was cleared of the Keating 5, you know if a person is found not guilty you can’t keep putting it back on them. Of course you if can say Keating 5 counts against McCain then we sould count Ayries, Wright, Pfleger, Odinga, muslem family ties as well as his own, Acorn, and on and on. It just never seems to end. The best you can do is Keating 5. Obama is guilty of associating with all on this list but McCain was cleared so go figure. Not to mention neither him or Kenndy crosses party lines as much as McCain even though they lied and said they did. Obama votes 96.5% with his party, Kenedy votes 94.3% with his party and McCain votes 88.6% with his party. Then you have the pork barrel, McCain is 0 and Obama is in the millions. As for the Shedd Aquarium it has millions in liquid assest yet he keeps funding more and more pork to them. Ever wonder why? Even Kenedy has millions in pork. So far $192,100,000.00 for Kenedy this year, and $97,800,000.00 for Obama that you can find this year. So just vote them in again. Now that pork can’t be taken off the bills and the president can no longer veto we will just sink further into debt.

No news here. Obama is a hypocrite and so are most politicians. The question is “is Obama qualified to lead the US?” He is a good public speaker but a good speech on cake does not put bread on my table. American voters need in-depth analysis of BHO records and his agenda. The media needs to stop going goo goo gaa gaa over Obama and apply the same standard on him as on Bush. Obama is no little angel and running for presidency is no beauty baby contest. Except for McCain’s age, I know I can trust him to lead America. Obama has a good change theme but I need to know if he is qualified to make changes.

Now Jim Johnson. You would think by now ever the Obama supporters would start having questions. All his associates are very shady indeed. This is not the man we need in the white house. Because of this and the blatant corruption of the dnc I have re-registered as a independent and will be voting for McCain. This is one ex-democrat that will not come back into the fold like the pundits think.

Dem. for McCain “08″….. The unfair method of the Dem. to elect a candidate is done, but it does not mean we Dem. need to except. I urge for the sake of this country that everyone despite of four more years of a Rep. president that if our children are to have a future we all need to stand together and vote McCain. Obama will never have my vote or respect…He is nothing but a fake!!!!

Khaliph,

If McCain bringing this up is an example of him “sticking his hands into mud” and a “fear of losing” then what was Obama doing when he brought up Clinton’s ties to Countrywide in the primary…

If Obama’s supporters would educate themselves about their candidate instead of following along blindly behind him the general election would be 50 states for McCain. Obama’s only good quality, and the one that has gotten him this far, is he is able to read well from a prepared script. He doesn’t do as well thinking on his feet (as seen in the debates).

As for me, my vote will be for Morgan Freeman. He’s also black, and a good speaker, and even a democrat. He’s not quite as liberal as Obama, but that’s ok…

This Johnson guy is a volunteer staff doing the vetting for free.
It is overblown and incorrect reporting by the media to claim that Johnson is a Obama staffer, close advisor, etc.

Its a non-issue.
