Obama Camp on Understanding Iraq
The Obama camp is continuing to field offers from the McCain campaign to visit Iraq and flak from the right that he has only been to the country once. Today the RNC launched a new feature on its website - a clock counting the days since Obama traveled to Iraq. That number stands at 871.
Obama spokesman Bill Burton called McCain’s original proposal a “political stunt” in an email exchange with Talking Points Memo, the popular liberal blog. “We don’t need any more ‘Mission Accomplished’ banners or walks through Baghdad markets to know that Iraq’s leaders have not made the political progress that was the stated purpose of the surge,” Burton told the website.
Today McCain used Burton’s own words at an event in Reno, Nevada, to prove that Obama does not understand the realities on the ground and that war is no political stunt….To which Obama campaign responded with a stinging statement to reporters.
“On the day after the former White House press secretary conceded that the Bush administration used deception and propaganda to take us to war, it seems odd that Senator McCain, who bought the flawed rationale for war so readily, would be lecturing others on their depth of understanding about Iraq. Senator Obama challenged the President’s rationale for the war from the start, warning that it would divert resources from Afghanistan and the pursuit of Al Qaeda and mire us in an endless civil war. Senator McCain stubbornly insists on pursuing the failed Bush policy that continues to cost so much, while Senator Obama believes it’s time to begin a deliberate, careful strategy to remove our troops and compel the Iraqis to take responsibility for their own future,” said Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton.

What is the point of Obama going to Iraq? none. End of story. Mccain’s lobbyists need to come up with some new tactics because these recent claims from Mccain are very weak.
Some one correct me here….did Obama have a vote in the NATIONAL senate at the time everyone voted to send our country into Iraq in the very first place?????I don’t think he did. This sounds like a lot of Monday morning quarterbacking if you ask me..Following his (Obama’s) campaigns continued strategy he points out problems after they happened then claims he would not of done it. Yet he was never in those seats. Also why does Obama not realize McCain has opposed many things that the Bush Admin wanted and claimed with the war; and that the successful surge was McCains (and others) primary idea….may be it is because he hasn’t been on the national stage that long. Or is it that he is the true master of “the same old politics” he often speaks against?

How could he possibly understand Iraq and Afghanistan if he is afraid to go there in the last 29 months? He has no idea, none, he has no concept of the military or the
progress. He never served in the military and as a Senator, he is only a Politician
not a worker. A senator works for the people, and serves a nation, not simply
hide from his obligation. To go into the field and see what progress is being done, not
simply whine for attention. If Elected will he send out a dog to see if its rainning?

Obama won’t go to Iraq. He’s a coward. All he can do is make pretty speeches. He even asked for secret service protection at the beginning of his campaign. He’s in no more danger than the other two candidates are. Of course Senator Clinton already has the protection and I suspect that’s why Obama HAD TO HAVE IT. He’s like a child wanting someone else’s toys.
