McCain and Bush: Gone in under 60 seconds

PHOENIX, AZ — It was short and sweet. Really short in fact.

After accompanying President Bush to the airport after a closed fundraiser Tuesday afternoon, Sen. McCain saw off the Commander in Chief on the tarmac at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.

It was the first time McCain and Bush have been seen publicly together since the presumptive GOP nominee visited the White House on March 5, but if you turned away you might have missed it as the two were on the tarmac together for only 26 seconds and within camera shot for a total of 47 seconds.

The McCain campaign was clearly trying to limit public time with the President–whose disapproval rating stands at 71 percent–as the goodbye did not take place until 9pm ET, hours after the nightly newscasts signed off.

Upon arrival at the airport, the Senator, Mrs. McCain and President Bush all exited the same limo and walked toward the plane. Bush and Sen. McCain each waved and pointed to the assembled press under the plane’s left wing before McCain gave him a hearty handshake and a pat on the back. Bush kissed Mrs. McCain on the cheek before climbing the stairs to Air Force One.

Behind closed doors however, they spent more than hour at a fundraiser where Bush helped McCain net about $3 million according to sources familiar with the event. Among the more than 500 donors at the private home in the Phoenix suburbs was former Vice President Dan Quayle.

The Phoenix haul brings McCain’s Tuesday cash total to $4.5 million—he raised $1.5 million at an earlier fundraiser in Denver. Per usual, the funds will be channeled to a number of different accounts including the RNC Victory fund, several state Republican parties and McCain’s primary fund. Bush will continue raising money for McCain Wednesday in Utah where he is set to attend two events with Mitt Romney, while the presumptive nominee campaigns in Reno and Los Angeles.

Sen. Obama and Democrats who have been trying to lump McCain in with Bush whenever possible tried to make hay out the closed fundraiser earlier today.

“Today, John McCain is having a different kind of meeting. He’s holding a fundraiser with George Bush behind closed doors in Arizona. No cameras. No reporters. And we all know why. Senator McCain doesn’t want to be seen, hat in hand, with the president whose failed policies he promises to continue for another four years,” Obama told a Nevada crowd today.

The McCain campaign’s Tucker Bounds responded with this statement that rides the fine line of differentiating himself from the White House with out being seen as disrespectful.

“Whether the issue is global climate change or urging a more effective strategy in Iraq, John McCain has had clear but respectful differences of opinion with the President. However, it isn’t surprising that Barack Obama is trying to disguise his own lack of depth and weak leadership on the issues with political generalizations and superficial attacks,” Bounds said.

Ever wonder how the Patriot Act got passed? Seems like anyone who read it would never in a million years vote for it right? Do you know Congress doesn’t even READ the laws it passes? There is legislation being introduced in the House and Senate that would stop your freedoms from being trampled in the mud. It’s called the Read The Bills Act and it requires each law being passed in Congress to be READ OUT LOUD IN ITS ENTIRETY. Also, the law must be published on the web for 7 days before voting to give we the people time to comment on it. I know everyone’s very active politically this year and here’s something we can ALL agree on - we don’t want Congress sneaking around behind our backs! If you’re active politically, please be active in this - go to the link below and let your Congressmen know of your support!

Here we go again everyone! Buckle up for the next 10 seconds while we wait for tremors to subside. Give me a break, I’m a democrat, but this is just getting old. Period.

Obama is making a lot out of nothing. I have sponsored high end fund raisers for candidates in the past and they are always “closed door” as in expensive and invitation only. Typically cadidate prefer not to have a press presence at such intimate gatherings–often at a private home.

No one in their right mind thinks McCain is a clone of Bush. Obama, you are kidding, right???

They are far from even similar personality wise or politically.

Sell your KOOLADE elsewhere. I know the Democrat mantra is that a repeated lie becomes the truth, but we have all seen the names on the bills co-sponsored by McCain: Kennedy, Feingold etc. etc. This guy is barely Republican so I don’t think folks will be buying the “same as Bush” routine.

This is not the way the President of the United States should be treated. I am so tired of how rude everyone is to President Bush. He still has a lot of supporters and we are many, regardless of the silly polls. McCain catering to the MSM this way is not going to raise any campaign funds or support from Conservatives that still stand by the President.

What has happened to this Nation? It is filled with HATE! It lacks manners, civility, brotherly love and common sense. The bases of most news is riddled with untruths and inaccurate polls. (Isn’t this how the Roman Empire fell?)

Not surprising that McCain doesn’t want to be seen with Bush, given the atrocious approval ratings. Those ratings will no doubt not be helped by Scott McClellen’s new book. It’s disconcerting to see McCain wants to continue these failed policies that were created using propaganda to sell it to begin with.

I have to wonder what you right wingers will be saying about Scott now. Most will likely fail to even read the book yet share their “opinions” generated by lame political machinery-generated talking points.

The good news is that Bob Barr can beat this clown in a heartbeat. Thank God he’s running.

John McCain is old and should’nt be president. He”s no Ronald Reagan and I don’t care if Nancy asked me to vote for him I wouldn’t. The days of staunch conservatism are gone. Iused to listen to Rush on the airwaves but even he sounds like a “POS”. What this country needs is a leader who won’t bend to liberals and conservatives alike on the hill. The clintons have worn out their welcome in washington but so has the McCain family. Career politicians have no place anymore when it comes to foriegn affairs national security and the rediculios price for oil that we pay. Lioke is said I’d love to run for president but you’d have to be nuts to take on the idiocy that Bush is leaving for the next poor sap that takes over.

Thank You

Obama must think we are idiots. I never seen nor heard McCain say he promises Bush’s policies continued. The more he recants the same verse and tells us garbage about uncles freeing Jews from camps, has me convinced he is spoon fed every word by white men who don’t care what other people know and are hoping idiots, welfare suckers, drug addicts and hairy armpit women types show up en masse on election day.

Hey Barack - what were you doing at age 27…UUH snortin a little coke..going to school man.

Hey McCain - what were you doing at age 27..in the military service, leading other troops, in a war, finished school….

Sorry, community service is NOT equal to miltary service. Ever. It is called sacrifice. Which the great pretender shows he has done none of.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe Obama did the same thing in San Francisco. Of course he did not have Pres. Bush with him. All the same, it was a closed event that Obama got busted on for degrading a certain class of Americans for their inalienable rights.

The Bush-McCain machine is disgusting. They have shredded our Constitution and civil liberties. They both need to be imprisoned immediately.

McCain sides with BUSH on the new GI Bill.

McCain attends a private fund raiser with BUSH.

McCain is looking even more like a 3rd term BUSH candidate.

As bad as it is to be seen with someone like Bush (31% approval rating), how quick would you think Mac should exit the scene with a Congressperson present?

13% approval? Sheesh. I’d bet somewhere around 8 seconds.

Or the President had to pee really bad and couldn’t stand around and wait.

Any Fox embeds care to report why Obama blocks media in his fundraisers & start asking some tough questions instead of behaving like his campaign people.

I’m still waiting for McCain to explain what exactly his Iraq, Iran, and economy policy is? If Obama is wrong about it being just a Bush’s 3rd term, why won’t McCain actually come out and provide details of what his policy is? So far anytime any one has questioned him on his actual policies, and the holes in it McCain has gone with personal attacks and his all time favorite “I was a POW”. McCain is possibly the single worst presidential candidate in the past 20 years, I really hope people actually start asking him real questions sometime soon.
