Hillary’s Last Stand: Viva Puerto Rico

“Buenas Noches!”

Hillary Clinton greeted the crowd in Aguadilla with the first Spanish she’s used since delivering a botched “Si Se Puede” in California in January. It was the only Espanol she attempted at her first campaign stop in Puerto Rico, and she didn’t even tolerate others using it much — pausing every so often during the first five minutes of her speech to allow her translator to repeat her words in Spanish before simply plowing ahead without translation.

Her message was specific in either language: she’s committed to Puerto Rico.

“I believe you should have a vote in picking the president too,” she said to applause from the 300 islanders gathered to hear her speak. “I am thrilled Puerto Rico will be in the spotlight of this entire nation as we move toward this primary.”

“I’m proud to represent over 1 million Puerto Ricans in New York City,” she said to cheers. Several in the crowd wore Yankees hats.

“My commitment to Puerto Rico did not start last month or last year. It stretches back more than a decade,” she said. She recalled trips she’d made to the island as First Lady and as a NY Senator.

“I have worked to be your voice in the senate, and I will always be your voice as your president,” she said. To that end, she outlined what she’d do for Puerto Rico in the White House

: clean up the naval bombing station at Vieques, extend the funding for a huge radio telescope, extend the federal economic empowerment zone program to include Puerto Rico.

But first things first: the pesky question of statehood. Part of her commitment to the island, she said, “starts with enabling the people of Puerto Rico to decide the fundamental question of the islands – your status
.”

“I will make it a personal priority to work with all sides and with the congress to enable the issue to finally be resolved
,” she told the crowd. “I
will be guided by two principles, number one, all people are entitled to a representative government at all levels. And Puerto Rico should have the status that a majority of your people want among all of the options.”

“I promise you this: I will work for a resolution of Puerto Rico’s status by the end of my first term.

”

But before that can happen, Clinton would need to get elected. She’s expected to win big here in the popular vote and in the race for the territory’s 55 pledged delegates — but even a big victory is not expected to inhibit Barack Obama’s slow roll to the nomination. Even so, the NY Senator urged Puerto Riquenos to come out to the polls to bump up her numbers.

“This primary election is an opportunity for Puerto Rico. We have the national press here. They are learning about Puerto Rico. We are shining a bright spotlight,” she said. “The more Puerto Ricans who participate, who come out and vote, the more important the issues will become. Because the press and the public will be looking to the Puerto Rican people.”

“I think you have a lot at stake as to who the next president will be.”

In just 17 short minutes she left the lectern to the familiar chants of “Hillary!” — this time shouted with a Spanish accent.

Is Sen. Clinton still campaigning? Why? Why would she do this? She is an antidisestablishmentarienist.

Yes we can!

(No she can’t, otherwise she would have.)

Janet Napolotino for VP!

Barack Obama for President!

Dust is appropriate considering your candidates position. Patty is very real and the only people who are fake are those people still buying her act. She is so fake it is sickening. She has been 5 to 10 different people doing this campaign. She was pro gun, then she was against Nafta, then she had the sniper fire thing, then she signed off to not count Florida and Michigan, now she is the big advocate for Florida & Michigan, then she tried the fake accent down south and now she finally found her niche. Those “HARD WORKING WHITE PEOPLE”, which is code name for other stuff. Then she was able to play the WOMEN CARD. Ohhh everyone is picking on me because i am a woman. LOL. Your candidate doesnt have any class left in the DUST. That’s why she is losing not because she is being treated unfairly.

Please don’t assume you know me or my positions. Yes, I supported Clinton vehemently and, maybe even blindly, but I just can’t do this “support your candidate no matter what” any longer. I know you also have been passionate about Hillary, but you’ve had your own doubts… haven’t you? It’s never too late to change one’s mind… after all, it’s a womans prerogative.

Obama is Not Presidential material….he would put our safety at Risk!

Start with national security, since the president’s most important duties are as commander-in-chief. Over the summer, Mr. Obama talked about invading Pakistan, a nation armed with nuclear weapons; meeting without preconditions with Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who vows to destroy Israel and create another Holocaust; and Kim Jong Il, who is m*u*r*dering and starving his people, but emphasized that the nuclear option was off the table against terrorists — something no president has ever taken off the table since we created nuclear weapons in the 1940s. Even Democrats who have worked in national security condemned all of those remarks. Mr. Obama is a foreign-policy novice who would put our national security at risk.

WHAT does he want to do with us???? He’s Trying to put us in Harm’s way.

Obama has an astonishingly empty paper trail. He’s going around issuing promissory notes on the future that he can’t possibly redeem. Promises to heal the world with negotiations with the likes of Iran’s president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Promises to transcend the conundrums of entitlement reform that require real and painful trade-offs and that have eluded solution for a generation. Promises to fund his other promises by a rapid withdrawal from an unpopular war - with the hope, I suppose, that the (presumed) resulting increase in American prestige would compensate for the chaos to follow.

Democrats are worried that the Obama spell will break between the time of his nomination and the time of the election, and deny them the White House. My guess is that he can maintain the spell just past Inauguration Day. After which will come the awakening. It will be rude.

Like it or not, after May 31st. the most they will do is split the Mi and Fla delegates in half. Hill/Billy will still be almost 200 delegates behind as she is today.

I am voting Democrat this year period. Whether it is Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama. I think that the ailing economy, the war on Iraq, the surging gas prices, and the lack of vision and leadership rendered by the Republicans are reasons why the Republicans will not get my vote ever. So, for those supporters of HIllary Clinton, remember that if she is not the nominee, we still have to unite to ensure the Republicans demise and defeat in November.

McCain in ‘08

Career:
John McCain is a four-term senator and former two-term U.S. representative from Arizona. He ran for the Republican presidential nomination in 2000, but was defeated by current President Bush. McCain’s work within the Congress has earned him a reputation as a reformer. He has not shied away from crossing the aisle, and has worked with Democrats in the past to sponsor legislation. Before entering politics, McCain was a pilot in the Navy (1958-1981). He spent five-and-a-half years as a Vietnamese prisoner of war at the infamous “Hanoi Hilton,” where he was placed in solitary confinement and t*o*r*tured.

McCain ‘08

Other facts:
McCain’s Navy honors include the Silver Star, Bronze Star, Legion of Merit, Purple Heart, and the Distinguished Flying Cross.
McCain and his 2nd wife adopted a daughter in 1993 from an orphanage in Bangladesh, run by Mother Teresa.

McCain ‘08

Taxes:
McCain says tax cuts work best in conjunction with lower spending. He blames excessive spending for Republican losses in the 2006 elections. McCain was one of two Republican senators to oppose the 2001 tax cuts, arguing that too many of the benefits went to the most fortunate at the expense of the middle class. He also opposed the 2003 tax cuts. McCain says he would not raise taxes, but that he would not go as far as to sign a pledge to that effect. He believes a repeal of the estate tax isn’t necessary. Coming soon.

Comment by True Democrat

Okay, well, I’ll continue to read and try to understand your perspective, but there is no difference between Hillary and Barack… Voting McCain or the third party candidate (a whacko conservative) seems counter productive.

I was a Clinton supporter and I still would vote for Hillary gladly and enthusiastically, but if Hillary doesn’t make it, and she cannot at this point, then I wouldn’t vote McCain.

Not even Hillary will support your McCain vote. As far as the fear factor because of the “unknown” about Barack is concerned, you may be right. But I do have some concerns now about Hillary’s abilities. She began with the big money and more than a 100 superdelegates and huge momentum and her people totally screwed it up and she was not able to bounce back. I guess, to a degree, I do buy the Obamabots argument that she wasn’t able to manage her campaign so how can we expect her to manage the country.

My word I’ll be glad when this is all over.

Comment by rwethereyet

McCain ‘08

Iraq:
McCain thinks Bush’s strategy in Iraq can succeed, and that if the U.S. fails to stabilize Iraq now, the threat of terrorism against American interests will grow. McCain has strongly criticized Democrats who support a troop withdrawal timeline, but has also criticized the administration for mishandling the war. He says Donald Rumsfeld will be remembered as one of the worst secretaries of defense in history.

If your feeble brain can recall, after Barack won North Carolina, the Superdelegates started swarming to him. He was behind Hill/Billy B by 25 Delegates, now he is ahead of her by 30. He leads her by almost 200 delegates in the total count. Are you mentally retarded or can you not count????

Most also consider themselves centrists and would rather vote for a centrist Republican, than an ULTRA-liberal Democrat. Many are the same folks who preferred McCain to Bush in 2000.

Bill Clinton demonstrated what it takes for a Democrat to win the White House. He’s the only Democrat to win in more than 30 years. How many left leaning liberal Democrats have lost? Carter (re-election), Dukakis, Gore, Kerry. This is why Hillary supporters are so adamant, they realize that Obama cannot win a general election. It’s Obama who is damaging the Democrat party, not Clinton. Don’t blame Clinton when he loses, “turn the page” and get over it.

Comment by NO to Obombma

The ascent of Barack Obama from state senator in Illinois to a leading contender for the Presidential nomination in the span of just a few years is remarkable. Especially in light of a noticeably unremarkable record — a near-blank slate of few accomplishments and numerous missed votes.

However, in one area of foreign policy that concerns millions of Americans, he does have a record and it is a particularly troubling one. For all supporters of the America-Israel relationship there is enough information beyond the glare of the klieg lights to give one pause. In contrast to his canned speeches filled with “poetry” and uplifting aphorisms and delivered in a commanding way, behind the campaign façade lies a disquieting pattern of behavior.

One seemingly consistent theme running throughout Barack Obama’s career is his comfort with aligning himself with people who are anti-Israel advocates.

When is the last time a nomination was overturned????

You do realize that he has 1971 delegates right now????

The way this election has been pushed through is amazing to me…

KS, that is kinda wierd…because you used to be able to post. I know what you mean when I try to post about the Kenya Elections now…it is hard to get the post thru…earlier today I just gave up…

A vote for Obama is a vote for Islam.

Okay, well, I’ll continue to read and try to understand your perspective, but there is no difference between Hillary and Barack… Voting McCain or the third party candidate (a whacko conservative) seems counter productive.

No difference between Hillary and Barack? Nice try…
Barack (not Hillary) used cocaine because he couldn’t cope with being bi-racial.
Barack (not Hillary) maintains a friendly association with a terrorist.
Barack (not Hillary) was indoctrinated by a black liberation theologist and hates “whitey”.
Barack (not Hillary) blames working class whites, calling them bitter.

I only hope if Obama asks her to join that ticket that she resists the temptation and declines.

Your having said everything that you did, she is 10 times worse that Barack is.

Incidentally, I hope to H he does not ask her. She would be trying to run everything.

Beverly, Houston….Obama has Not…..repeat “has NOT” gotten the nomination yet. Rules are rules. There is nothing to overturn as yet because there is No nominee.

AND McCain is running down people all the time…the latest is Hagee and Parsley…and it shows his ignorance of Bible knowledge.

I repeat, Hill/Billy needs approximately 200 delegates. Barack only needs 54 to reach 2025, without any more help from the Superdelegates.

And??

I want a man who understands what we are facing from the truth of a Biblical perspective…and we do not have it and that is what we need…

Comment by KS

NO but the DNC is crooked…CAN’T you see this nonsense…SUperdelegates…THAT is unconstitional.

It will be who they decide not the public…and that should tee the dems off.

I cannot vote for Obama everything about him scares me. There just seems to be something very wrong about him. I can’t believe that someone who has so many questionable people connected to him has gotten as far as he has. I can’t believe that Ted Kennedy would be pushing someone like Obama. I could understand it if he didn’t know half of what we all know now but once he found out, i.e. that Bill Ayres, the terrorist, was his good buddy who had a fundraiser for him in his home, that he had a pastor for 20 years serving as his mentor and inspiration who curses our country and spews white hating rhetoric, that he has deep connections with Tony Rezko and lied about it, you would think that someone like Kennedy who served this country in the Senate all these years would walk away once he knew of these things, you would think that he would want to protect us from any possible harm. You would think.
