Huckabee picks Anniversary Trip over McCain AZ BBQ

Washington, D.C.-

As FNC has reported, Sen. John McCain will be meeting with several potential running mates this weekend at his ranch in picturesque Sedona, Arizona . Those on the rumored short-list who are attending McCain’s barbecue include Florida Gov. Charlie Crist, Lousiana Gov. Bobby Jindal,OMB Director Rob Portman and former opponent Gov.Mitt Romney. However, there had been a few notable exceptions to the list of BBQ attendees and possible veeps, like former AR Gov Mike Huckabee, who was one of the last standing rivals against McCain during the GOP primary season . Since first reported, several pro-Huckabee websites have been theorizing, and lamenting over the omission. So did Huck not make the cut for the much ballyhooed BBQ?

Fear not Huck supporters, says Sarah Huckabee, daughter and former high-ranking campaign aide for the Iowa caucus winner. Huckabee was in fact invited, she says.

Huckabee, along with a few others said to be considered by McCain for the GOP ticket , including Minnesota Gov.Tim Pawlenty, and NC Sen. Richard Burr, were invited but have prior commitments.

So what’s Huckabee’s prior commitment?

A long-planned trip with his wife, Janet, to celebrate their 34th wedding anniversary.

McFlipflop did not just ‘accept’ Hagee and Parsley’s endorsements - he actively courted them. Big difference. And if he and his team were so stupid and slack that they did not check out these nutjobs’ statements and positions before seeking their support and standing on stages with them, how could you ever let him near the White House???

Doesn’t really matter, of course, the silly old dope is in for the biggest humiliation ever in November. This year has a big D stamped all over it :)

I’m liking Huckabee more and more.

Wascally Wingnut Wival, Your statement of flip-flopping ,must be addressed to Obama who constantly flip-flops daily depending upon the views of the electorates. My fellow Americans, please be careful and don’t take the words of Obama until you really know who he is. With all his radical views and associations with radical and dangerous people, I think I would be scared of this candidate. Not qualified for a US president!

Comment by anne

I Like Mike. He is not skiping his plans for the bbq even if it means getting a higher position on the short list.

Sorry Constance - have another look at the facts now and try to change your mind. Otherwise you are in for a progressively more distressing 5 and a half months, then heartbreak at the end of it.

Look after your mental health now - join the Obama revolution!

Mike Huckabee is so classy and definitely has his priorities in order. He always seems to do what he says he will do…a man of his word.

Comment by gator

Some of my Republican friends want Crist chosen to get him out of FL. They feel that he has not supported the University.

Mike is just like McCain, he knows his priorities. For Mike it was his boss over the VP and for McCain it was a fundraiser over veteran benefits.

Comment by akarmenia1

Long-planned? Anyone else find it interesting that he had a vacation planned in the middle of the election cycle when a few months ago he was a viable candidate for the nomination?

I applaud his priorities, but I think if you’re running for the highest office, you ought to be working harder than that.

Huckab-ites, please just give up. No matter what the guy does, you just gush over him. He will NEVER be president. He’s a nice guy, a a great pastor, and an entertaining figure. Not a president.

I think that was a classy move on the part of Huckabee! It is another good example of how Mike Huckabee has his priorities straight. He’s about people instead of political gain. I applaud him and he will make a great president! Huckabee 2012!

Comment by Wascally Wingnut Wival

What is it with McFlipflop and being mean to the military? He was the mad-keen one to shut down searches for MIAs in Vietnam too. Some awful stories about the way he treated missing men’s relatives. He also pressured the Vietnamese to seal the records of their POW interrogations.

Methinks there will be a lot of digging in that department before November.

Huckabee isn’t being strongly considered for VP anyway…good for him!

Romney acts like a Christian, that’s why I think he’s skipping out. Have a nice trip. :)

Comment by Lucy Wilson

Yes, Romney acts like a Christian, but he is not a very good actor. I wouldn’t go to see him “star” in “Massachusetts Flip-Flops” again. I would, however, go see “Katrina, Helping the People”, starring Mike and Janet Huckabee, again.

Comment by ShowMeSt

My 1st choice was ROMNEY (OVER-qualified, classy, well-spoken, had REAL jobs SUCCESFUL business and governnor stayed within budget in a LIBERAL state). McCAIN/ROMNEY 2008!!!!

Comment by ShowMeSt

Romney omniously spoke about China and issues we need to address NOW! DRILL HERE for OIL and/or get some from IRAQ to pay for the war and for us, this is ridiculous. I’d like to know WHY we are not???? They did a very NOBLE and GREAT job, but come on let’s make a deal now!!!!

Mike huckabee wants to keep his trap shut from getting him in trouble . or more like running to your room and crying , how could i have said this.

he is what i would call in a state of denial,

next .

Comment by bigjohnson

Michigan is asking Romney what have you done for us lately.
home foreclosure was hitting hard their before alot of the other states/ lost manufacturing jobs.
automobile plants shutrting down. jobs being sent to other countries. this is a prime example of just because you daddy was here and times were great then. you want credit for it.
what have you done for Michigan lately.

people so gullible. just because he sold you life insurance doesnt mean you know him.

Comment by Mark Petty

All these people are dumb! The republicans have went through a stupid streak and have voted McCain in for the Republican ticket. McCain atleast needs to save the election by picking FRED THOMPSON!!!!! That is our only TRUE CONSERVATIVE hope!!!!!!!

Comment by Jerry

Myself, and MANY of my family and friends will ONLY vote if Huckabee is on the ticket. He is the only one that is socially conservative enough to get the evangelicals excited to go vote. Without this passion, no way will McCain beat Obama/Clinton.

Comment by dust

This is no suprise to me! Have fun at your anniversary.

Huckabee/ (maybe Romney) 2012

This also just proves that Huckabee has not been campaigning for the VP slot. ( that doesn’t mean I think Romney has been, just so theres no misunderstandings)

Comment by Jerry

McCain/Huckabee 2008. Only Huckabee will get the evangelicals passionate enough to go vote. Huckabee won the majority of the Republican states before the primary was declared “over”. McCain won the primaries by winning Democratic “winner take all” states. This won’t work in the general election.

Comment by Mark Petty

The media has won this primary for McCain and you can bet they will be ready to lose the general election for him. THe media had NO DIRT on Fred Thompson and that will help McCain tremendously. If its Obama McCain. McCain should come out on top but if Hillary is running then I think McCAin will have ALOT of trouble.

People who know me on this blog would laugh at you right now. My point is that he does have some passionate supporter and resourses, but he by no means would be my pick for president. I really wound’nt what him to be a VP except for the possible benefits he would bring. Also notice the maybe Romney!!

Joe-

Dust is a d1e-hard Huckabee supporter. But he is smart enough to know that Obama and his socialist agenda must be stopped. So even if McCain picks Romney (which would not be dust’s first or even second choice), he will support them. Just as I will support a McCain/Huckabee ticket. The Dems must be stopped and that is more important than threatening to not vote just because your guy didn’t make the Pres or VP slot.

So, in honor of my pal Dust- here’s laughing at you Joe:

Dust-

I had tried posting a response back to you last week, but the censor is getting real picky.

I have a former boss who had been assigned to the USS Halibut (SSGN-587). Just do a google search on it and you will get a bunch of hits.

It was converted from being a guided missile sub (firing the Regulus missile) to being used for covert operations. Somebody wrote a book about it about 10 years or so ago called “Blind Man’s Bluff.” It details how they use to sneak into Soviet waters and tap into the underwater communications lines.

But even when the book came out as well as later information about the sub being used in going after the Soviet K129, if I ever asked my boss about it, all he would say is “I was on the boat and we went to sea.”

I find a lot of people on these blogs are so full of bull. If they truly did what they claim, they would get strung up for discussing classified information. Even when parts are declassified, you don’t go talking about it.

But have some fun looking this stuff up. It is cool cold war era spy stuff.

Dean: I’m about to go to work. Thanks for the support last night. I thought you’d get a kick out of that!!! Just as I’d get a kick out of some of the nonsence on this blogs. See you latter!!

I think thta Romney inspires more Evangelical Vote and more conservative vote than Huckabee,
look at the numbers, Romney was leading in popular vote count, and he and Huck and McCain had a lot of 3 way splitting of the vote.
Sorry, at the moment, I’m not planning on voting for McCain, hsi Global Warming Stance is BOGUS, and adding Huckabee to the ticket would Guarantee that I dont vote for him.
If he picks ROmney though, I’ll start writing checks again.
I found Huckabee to be a shady man, bad for someone who calls himself a man of God, THe blatant lies he told, and his dishonest campaign….
Besides, Huckabee blew his political career at the NRA Convention……..His scense of humor is VERY POOR.

“Look after your mental health now - join the Obama revolution!”

Good one. It is very easy to feel good about jumping on the latest bandwagon but since Obamabots don’t know where their wagon is taking them, shouldn’t we be questioning THEIR mental health? Let’s look at two points of policy where they are clearly not thinking critically:

First, Obama plans to raise taxes on capital gains, raise payroll taxes on “the rich,” heavily regulate commodity industries and relax rules on unions. By the way, these are the ways he thinks he can STRENGTHEN the economy. These are proven ways to WEAKEN an economy. Taxes, regulations and unions are the three worst things that could happen to an industry and ther consequences on the national economy are compounded in ways we still don’t fully understand.

Second, Barack thinks that running away from Iraq when we are making undeniable progress is the way to WIN the war on terrorism. Emboldening our enemies and handing a large, resource-rich country over to them is the OPPOSITE of good military strategy. Just because a war isn’t popular doesn’t mean we should do our best to lose it.

This guy is a complete dope when it comes to the issues that really matter. How much respect should we be expected to show for his swooning masses?

Comment by Haley Rodman Clemson

“Sorry, at the moment, I’m not planning on voting for McCain, hsi Global Warming Stance is BOGUS…”

That makes no sense. McCain has the least intrusive position on global warming. He wants to take a market approach. Obama wants to force us to keep our thermostats at a government determined level, keep us from over-eating and drive smaller cars.

Wouldn’t it make more sense to use your vote to vote AGAINST Obama? Of course it would. The only way to do that, is to vote for McCain. Do the reasonable thing and pull the lever for McCain.

Comment by Omentum

I have a good idea for hucks wedding aniversary. Why don’t he and the misses go to the range and do target practice on an obama target. Since that sick remark was the first thing that came to mind, that must be where is heart is.

Enjoy Huck.

Comment by mrjimbo, Tx

The Cap and Trade stance of McCains is anything BUT Market approach.
It is TAX and Punish base on CARBON FOOTPRINT…..A phrase that now turns my stomach.
And NONE of these Idiots want to expand our Domestic Drilling and Refining, quite the opposite actually.
No, I’ll not pull the McCain lever to vote the lesser of two evils, I’m done with that game.
It will only be done if ROmney is on the Ticket, and then it will only be to support Romney.
Listened to Barr(libertarian) on the Glenn Beck show yesterday, Now, HE GETS IT…..

Comment by Lois Smith

M Y VOTE WENT TO MIKE.HE WAS THE BEST MAN RUNNING .iAM GLAD HE DIDN’T GO TO BAR-B-QUE NO ONE SHOWED HIM ANY RESPECT BEFORE. WHY START NOW.

Comment by Lois Smith

mike Huckabee was the best, smartest and, most honest man in the running. Ithought it useless for him to go to the bar-b-que because it was only for show .Ilive in florida and if mccain picks flordia governor Iwill not vote for him .Many of us are sorry we ever voted him for govenor. He has been a big disapointmen

Comment by Chris

Huckabee loves his wife more than his job. That is honorable and I admire his integrity.

Comment by Truevote

To “akarmenia1″:
Obviously you are out of the loop. If you’d take time to research you’d know that Mike Huckabee has been working deligently supporting fellow Republican conservative’s all over the U.S. with speaking engagements in those states and particularly on his website “HuckPac”.
There are millions of us supporting Huckabee….black AND white. He is the best choice for V.P. because he never “flip-flopped” on the issues; he’s always been a Republican since serving in government; and his message has always remained consistent focusing on family values and less government. His popularity is amazing and he has alot of the energy, vitality and charisma that complements McCain. The two of them would make a DYNAMIC DUO!!!

Comment by Sue

One day Huckabee will be known for who he really is. Time is on his side, for good or ill!

Comment by cpoland

My wife and I are hoping that Huck will be the VP ticket. Surely McCain has to recongize that he needs his support to win the big house.

Comment by James

The invitation to Huckabee was probably a token invite anyway. Huckabee is a good huckster for the media but can’t raise money to save his political life. A 2012 Huckabee run would be another disaster for the Republican party IMO.

Comment by Randy Davis

My hunch is that Mc Cain has already picked Huckabee and that the BBQ attendees were just there for the holiday and to throw the media off. I realize Fox News will have the mother of all cows when this is announced, but we could all use some refreshing entertainment. Mike is the only sensible choice if Mc Cain is thinking clearly. Governor Huckabee has credentials that are second to none, has more executive experience than anyone else, and would make a tremendous President. Above all, he is honest…something pretty rare in political circles today. Go to http://www.huckpac.com and become informed if you have not already done so. It is interseting to note that those people who seem to dis-like Huckabee, are the people who do not know him, or have believed the distortions of his true record made popular over recent months by Rush, Ann, Fox News et al. When people learn who the REAL Mike Huckabee is, they become huge supporters virtually overnight. Even if he is not chosen, he will still work for the good of the party and when the time is right….will become President. Go-Mike-Go !
