McCain rejects Hagee endorsement…for good
Union City, CA — After taking heat for nearly three months for receiving the endorsement of Pastor John Hagee, John McCain took the final step Thursday and completely rejected the support from the controversial evangelical leader.
Reacting to comments unearthed this week in which the pastor said Adolf Hitler was fulfilling God’s will by carrying out the Holocaust because it hastened the creation of Israel and the return of Jews to their homeland, McCain was forced to completely break his ties.
“Obviously, I find these remarks and others deeply offensive and indefensible, and I repudiate them. I did not know of them before Reverend Hagee’s endorsement, and I feel I must reject his endorsement as well,” McCain said in a written statement issued by his press office–also getting in a slight dig on Obama and his relationship with his controversial pastor. “I have said I do not believe Senator Obama shares Reverend Wright’s extreme views. But let me also be clear, Reverend Hagee was not and is not my pastor or spiritual advisor, and I did not attend his church for twenty years. I have denounced statements he made immediately upon learning of them, as I do again today. “
The split appears to be mutual, as Hagee released his own statment this afternoon “withdrawing” his endorsement, noting that he fears that his comments have “become a distraction in what should be a national debate about important issues.”
“Ever since I endorsed John McCain for president, people seeking to attack Senator McCain have combed my records for statements they can use for political gain. They have had no qualms about grossly misrepresenting my position on issues most near and dear to my heart if it serves their political ambitions,” Hagee said in a recent paper statement. “I am tired of these baseless attacks and fear that they have become a distraction in what should be a national debate about important issues. I have therefore decided to withdraw my endorsement of Senator McCain for President effective today, and to remove myself from any active role in the 2008 campaign. I hope that the Senator McCain will accept this withdrawal so that he may focus on the issues that are most important to America and the world.”
Hagee’s Hitler comments are only the latest in a litany of controversial statements brought to light in recent months since McCain first received the endorsement from the controversial pastor. Hagee has also blamed Hurricane Katrina on the sins of New Orleans residents and called the Catholic Church the “great whore.”
McCain has repeatedly condemned specific incendiary Hagee remarks during the last three months but defended his endorsement, often praising the pastor’s support for Israel, and consistently stated that accepting his endorsement did not mean he also approved of the pastor’s views. When he was recently confronted with Hagee’s Katrina remarks, he called them “nonsense” nine times, but still said he was not ready to repudiate his endorsement
“It’s nonsense. I don’t have anything more to say about that. Of course–I apologize for that. It’s nonsense. I reject that categorically and I would point out there’s a lot of people who have endorsed me. They support my views. That does not mean that I support (their views),” McCain told reporters April 24 during a trip to New Orleans. “Would I consider repudiating his endorsement? I certainly condemn those parts of his remarks. I continue to appreciate his support for the state of Israel and for many of the good things that he and his church has done. But I repudiate as strongly as possible those remarks and those of the Catholic church as well.”
McCain campaign advisers have admitted that they failed to adequately vet Hagee before accepting his endorsement prior to the Texas primary–which was viewed at the time as an important pickup for the GOP candidate as he sought to bring aboard support from the Christian right.

I forget, why was this a big deal in the first place? Hagee’s remarks taken in context aren’t really that bad (compared to Rev. Wright’s whose comments are even worse when taken in context). I agree with him on the floods in New Orleans. It’s true to form for God to wipe sinful, slothful cities like New Orleans off the map. Unfortunately, a lot of the perverts and criminals from New Orleans were relocated to place like Utah and brought their degenerate lifestyles to places that were still pretty clean and upstanding.
It’s sad to see McCain doing what politicians do but at the end of the day he is still far and away the best person for the job of President.
Well I guess Nobama supporters will feel some victory for this after they have made this an issue over an endorsement…it in no way erases the fact that Uncle Jerimiah Wright was Nobma’s mentor…He still sat in that church for 20 years exposing his children to the Anti-American Rantings of a Racist…this just shows how far Nobama supportes will go to change the subject. This is more on the line Louis Farakan..and the million man march that Nobama attended…
McCain didn’t sit in the home of a known terrorists William Ayers for political gain…Nobama did…
I need to correct my statement this endorsement wasn’t as worse as the Louis Farakan endorsement.
Sure would be nice to get at least a 10 minute speech from him. Obama had to give a 37 minute speech.
Would have been nice for Fox to run some snippets to show us how offensive these statements were.
God Job Fox…. fair and balanced.
Ole McGrampie thought he would be able to cut into the evangelical treasure trove of votes with Pastor Hagee. Evangelicals believe Hagee is the second coming of Christ. McGrampie is old but senility hasn’t set in yet. What he didn’t know is prophetic speakers are political suicide.
One down … one to go McGrampie…. Now Parson.

They’ve covered this in the past. Watch tonight, they will probably cover it again. The people who criticize Foxnews the most are the ones who never watch it.
I’ve seen transcripts of Hagee’s speeches. They really aren’t even in the same ballpark as what Wright said. They also make more sense scripturally and historically.
Hagee = Wright like Iran = USSR
Nice try Democrats…
Has anyone heard of Cindy McCain’s links to the mob?

You might just motivate that Evangelical Base like John McCain hasn’t..so go after all them…they are bigger voting block that you may realize…you know those typical..Small Town PA voters that cling to those guns and bibles…
Evanglelicals do not believe Hagee is the second coming of christ..but I sure you know that and are only trying to add insult to injury in your mind only…remember this..John McCain is not an Evangelical and is not a member of Hagee’s church..but you know that too…
McCain knew of Hagee’s comments about the catholic church being a “great (prostitute)” and about blaming katrina on residents of New Orleans when he accpted his endorsement. And he still accepted the endorsement. he did not renounce those comments. Other than the obscenity, what is the difference between Hagee proclaiming the God has brought his wrath upon America, and what Rev. Wright said? The difference is that Rev Hagee isn’t a scary, angry, black man….and that’s the only difference. Obama never endorsed or accepted Wright’s GD remarks, but McCain accepted hagee’s statement that God’s wrath was brought upon the US by our own actions. Another example of hypocrisy from the right.
Hagee was NOT the spiritual mentor of Senator McCain. In fact Senator McCain had no connection except that Hagee endorsed him. Senator McCain was innocent of this. I think it was right that Senator McCain rejects his endorsement.
Compared to Senator Obama who for 20 years had a very close ties with Jeremiah Wright. Wright was his mentor, his uncle, his spiritual leader, was the one who married Barack and his wife Michelle, and baptised his children. Obama called him his family. Wright had hated all the white people and daming and cursing America! Wright invented his own Black Bible.
Not good enough McSame. The media has given you and your wife an easy time while constantly showing negative depictions of Obama. I just hope all of McCain and his wife’s skeletons come out before the fall. America needs to know the truth.
Ron Paul would have made a better president than McJoke. His medical records are being released tomorrow. This man is too old and sickly to be president. His mother looks younger than him.
What, did McSame suddenly discover Hagee was another lobbyist on his staff?
This has been McSame’s problem: pimping himself out to anybody he thought had to in order to get the GOP nomination. He’s sold out his credibility and “straight talk.”
What profiteth a man to gain the world, if in doing so he loses his soul?
John McCain is a puppet.
I agree with you srKathleen. I am a Republican but I am voting for Obama this fall.
Will he seperate himself from Bush? If he wants any credibility he should tell Bush to shove his endorsement.
TWW:
I think I’m voting for Obama too. But I’d equally vote for Clinton if she was the nominee.
I was really offended that McSame didn’t even support the new GI Bill being proposed. I guess he never needed it once he married Cindy.
Wow….the monolithic, one dimensional, religious right wing voting base of the Republican Party are not going to like that. Their Taliban-like Ann Coulters, Jerry Falwells and John Hagees are the back bone of their voter base and these are the kind of people who will vote for any unqualified (like Bush) pathetic waste of skin. To get their vote, you have to claim to be pro-life (whatever that is even supposed to mean), claim to be Christian (and live opposite to Christ’s teachings…Ann Coulter), claim to be conservative (and spend like there is no tomorrow), and mix religion with politics. If you are not in favor of turning the pages of American history back to the dark ages of the Salem Witch Craft Trials then it really is hard to get Republican votes. I guess McCain just commited political suicide by rejecting Hagee. Well…all is not lost. There are plenty more spineless, chicken hawk, fear and hate mongering reptiles in the the ranks of the Republican Party who are ready & willing to take his place.
Obama has No Clue what your GI Bill is all about….what a dork Obama is
Obama didn’t even read the Bill before he stated spewing his ignorance.

McCain is Right on this …. those that serve 1 year in the military should Not get the same amount of money and benefits and someone that serves 3 years in the military. Return the bill and put in a sliding scale with the amount of $$ and benefits dependent on how long you’ve served your country. McCain is the Only candidate fit to lead our country.

==============================================================
And you can prove that with a link?
McCain didn’t have a 20 year relationship with Hagee.
McCain didn’t go to Hagee’s church.
Hagee didn’t marry McCain or baptise his children.
McCain didn’t say Hagee was “just like family”.
McCain didn’t donate $25,000+ to Hagee’s church.
Hagee is nothing compared to reverend Wright.

McFlipflop did not just ‘accept’ Hagee and Parsley’s endorsements - he actively courted them. Big difference. And if he and his team were so stupid and slack that they did not check out these nutjobs’ statements and positions before seeking their support and standing on stages with them, how could you ever let him near the White House???

Vote Senator McCain! The most qualified among the 3 candidates. Senator Clintion is better than Obama. Who is Barack Obama? Know who this candidate first, His affiliation with radicals and terrorist, scares me. The most liberal in the senate floor. Has done nothing for our country, Arrogant, rude, proud. He insulted the white Christians whose unwavering faith is with God. He called them low class, desperate white resorting to prayers. He named the white people whitey. He was rude and had no ethics when talking to the President of the United States. This office he desperately seeks.

Jim…You didn’t even bother to write your own comment..you just “adjusted” mine “and the world would be a better place!!!!!” Talk about confusing. Can’t write a whole sentence of you own??
Abba..without the Evangelicals…there’d never had been and not be a Republican party and the world would be a better place!!!!!!!!

What I did is called humor. You left a sentence hanging there and I jumped on it. Apparently you don’ have a sense of humor.

Wow, that was a “knee slapper”..if you’re a stand up comic..keep your day job.

Since you don’t have a sense of humor, that would mean what I said was indeed humorous!

Would have been nice for Fox to run some snippets to show us how offensive these statements were.
God Job Fox…. fair and balanced.

You will never see that on Fox. If they did, McCain would take a serious hit in the polls. Fox wouldn’t want that. Imagine all those Catholics in Ohio and PA. they wouldn’t forgive McCain.

Nice tactic..you make a stupid comment…get caught..call it humor…that’s as old as internet political chat rooms. I’ve seen over a decade ago. Nice try
It’s plan to see how many claiming to be Christians have no idea what the scriptures say and/or have no understanding of them. God “ORDERS,” God “ORDAINS,” and God “ALLOWS” allthings to happen to serve His purpose, not ours. Again, anyone who reads the scriptures for themself can see God has always used wicked men, women, and wicked angels to bring about His WILL and PURPOSE as much as He buses earthquakes, winds, waves etc. to serve His WILL, PURPOSE, and JUDGMENTS. He is God, and He can do whatever or use whoever He desires. No one can believe in God and not believe in His WORD and scriptures.
