Mixed fundraising news for McCain in April

For the McCain campaign, the final April fundraising numbers provide some good news and some bad news.

While the presumptive GOP nominee raised a personal record total of $17.8 million and finished the month with more than $21.7 million in cash on hand according to his campaign’s Federal Election Commission filing, McCain’s money figures still pale in comparison to the numbers put up by likely rival Barack Obama.

Despite facing an ongoing primary fight and losing four of five contests (TX, OH, RI and PA) in April, Obama still raised $31.3 million and went into May with $37.3 million in the campaign war chest. Additionally, more than 50 percent of Obama’s cash came from small donors in increments of $25 or less, while April saw McCain attend nearly daily big money fundraisers around the country. Additionally, the McCain campaign is increasingly focusing it’s attention on big donors, setting up a Victory Fund in coordination with the RNC last month that enables supporters to give up to $70,000 through multiple channels.

However, McCain campaign advisers are pointing to the large haul last month by the Republican National Committee and it’s mammoth cash advantage over the Democratic National Committee. The RNC outraised the DNC by $11 million in April–$15.7 million vs. $4.7 million–and finished the month with a nearly $35 million cash advantage–$40.1 vs. $4.4 million.

When combined, McCain/RNC fundraising nearly matches the Obama/DNC total and the GOPers hold a $20 million+ advantage in cash on hand. While Obama, Clinton and the DNC set up a joint fundraising committee in the last week and the DNC has launched multiple ads and efforts attacking McCain, the continuing primary fight still formally prevents Obama and the DNC from completely coordinating fundraising, messaging and political efforts. McCain and the RNC have no such issue have been working in unison for nearly three months.

President Bush will hit the money trail with McCain in Phoenix on Tuesday afternoon for a major fundraiser–including a private reception for donors giving $25,000+. The President will then join Mitt Romney (without McCain) for two fundraisers in Utah the following day, including an evening event for donors giving or collecting a minimum of $30,800 at Romney’s Park City, UT home.

THOSE WHO IGNORE THE MISTAKES OF THE PAST … . Cindy McCain is being advised to learn from the errors of Pittsburgh Pickle Heiress (PPH) Teresa Heinz.

McCain, the wife of presumptive Republican presidential nominee John McCain, has said she won’t release her personal tax returns prior to the November election. Nor will she turn them over if she becomes first lady.

The McCains have filed separate tax returns for nearly three decades.

Amy Ephron of The Huffington Post Web site doesn’t think Mrs. McCain’s reticence to make public the information is a particularly prudent move.

Ephron noted that similar behavior on PPH Heinz’s part during the 2004 presidential campaign didn’t help her windsurfing husband, Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry, the Democrat nominee.

“At the time (Kerry) was running for president, (Heinz) resisted making her tax returns public. For a really long time. In fact, she released her tax returns less than three weeks before the election.

“And we all know what happened to (Kerry).”

It seems McCain isn’t getting money from Mosques in the Middle east who are sending huge checks to mosques in the US which are then dispursed to individuals to put into Obama’s pot. There should be some way to track funds past the person who writes the check (other than research by news people where the facts came out).

Comment by marie thomson

McCain will raise a lot more money if he chooses the all time Republican Money raiser (and not his own funds–actually raised from others), Mitt Romney as Veep. He will NEED this money machine to have a shot at Barak. Also, in this time of economic crisis folks will have much more confidence in a ticket with a known economic giant and fiscal conservative, Mitt Romney on the ticket. Also, McCain needs to give more support to conservative values and the will of all the American people–like on Immigration Reform.

Unfortunately, it is well known McCain has a nasty propensity for holding a grudge and Romney made him look pretty bad in the last debates. I hope he will put his own and the countries interests above his grudges and put Romney on the ticket!

Comment by marie thomson

Oooops! I forgot to say that Romney’s youth and vigor will give confidence to those worried about McCain’s age that a great man would still run the country.

Go back to Kos Wingbat…don’t forget to pick up your check from Obama on the way! Marie, I don’t think McCain will hold a grudge against Romney…I think they are getting along well and I agree that Romney can help him with fundraising…I’d really like to see who McCain is going to choose for VP…

Obama is an empty suit, created by the media with the help of the Chicago political machine. He is a weakling whose strings are manipulated by Kennedy, Kerry-Heinz and Joe Biden.

He is at their beck and call and is unable to make a decision without their help. An empty suit.

Obama is further creating a cult which is being incited to hate the Clintons and John McCain. Along with the above three are Howard Dean, Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi, who are panting for Obama to become nominated — they are further manipulation.

The Democratic party is split and I for one, will be glad to see it buried and never alive again.

I will vote for McCain if Hillary is not nominated and I will campaign that each of the above, when faced with their own re-election, may not win.

Obama is an unknown. He has told too many lies. He has no leadership experience and is not qualified to become president. And, Yeah — I am a typical, hard-working, middle-class, blue collar person.

Florida voted. Both candidates were on the ticket.

Michigan has an election in August. Add Hillary and Obama to the August ticket!

Count Florida and Michigan.

Vote for America!

I agree that Cindy’s tax returns aren’t that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things, but inasmuch as McCain’s campaign has directly benefited from his wife’s fortune, I do think that issues of transparency can legitimately be raised.

By the way Marie, to what is your Mosque post referring? I haven’t read anything about this. Could you elaborate?

I’m not one of those democratic Bush Basher…things have been stressful for our country these last years…but I don’t blame Presdent Bush for everythng that’s wrong with the world… The high food and gas prices are putting a pinch in my budget…but I’ve been through tight times before..

The Clinton years were good for me also…so where the first Bush years even though I’ve never voted Republican I will this year…I just don’t really feel like I know Obama enough to trust him with our country!!!I almost didn’t vote for Bill Clinton the first time because I didn’t really know him…I actually felt bad for Bush that year…but I’ve never felt such mistrust of anyone running for President like I do with Obama and everything I do know about him…I don’t like…

So if the DNC’s superDs “Select” Obama..I’m a McCainocrat..someone said earlier it’s better than a recovering Democrat…who knows they might just end up calling us Hillary’s Dems..

It’s actually pretty simple. ___________________________________________________________________________________

I’d think putting Hillary into the #2 slot would actually hurt Obama. It would remind Hillary voters of the DNC leadership and media plot to knock her out of the general election. Even if Hillary would stand up at the DEM convention and throw her support to Obama, everyone will know she was forced to do so. Her endorsement of Obama will NOT be genuine.

Watch the pro-Obama media spend weeks showing how he’s “reaching out” to the Hillary voters. The same people he slapped in the face. I guess I can understand if Hillary supporters DO finally support Obama. I think it’s the same psychological logic called “spousal abuse”. It makes no sense for women to live with a guys year after year that’ll abuse them, but it does happen. Hillary supporters voting for Obama is pretty much the same thing.

You notice CNN didn’t do the KY exit polls much, lol. CNN “guest” also called Clinton a white *itch. I’m sick of the double standards.

The DNC and BO think he will win us over! Oh they will allow the votes to count after BO is locked in they been doing this since months ago telling people it is over and voters keep saying nah, don’t think so.

I also find it offensive that CNN was saying BO doesn’t need the white vote to win. I would beg to differ, so we will c come Nov.

We will turn our backs, just like they did to us!

I have a camera and some friends are video taping to put it on YouTube. Just in case the media gets paid to skip that part.

Just Stop:

it doesnt matter to me if hillary is the vp or obama is the vp ticket either way , i will not vote dem.if obama is any where on the ticket. i will vote mccain .obama is losing more support every day he is going down in the poles for the general election.i hope the clintons do not support the obama,s.i do think that obama would not support the clintons, michelle would not give ob permission.

I will have a small sign that says “McCainocrat”, so you will know me in the crowd.
I’ll be the pretty, long haired Italian woman in red!
