Obama on the Offensive Against McCain

At a town hall in Roseburg, Oregon, Barack Obama took on Republican John McCain on both foreign policy and domestic issues - over and over and over again. All the while, Obama assured the crowd that the differences between Hillary Clinton and himself “pale in comparison” with differences Democrats have with the presumptive Republican nominee.

For the second day in a row, Obama took issue with George Bush’s appeasement comments as well as John McCain’s questioning Obama’s ability to keep the country safe. “If George Bush and John McCain have a problem with direct diplomacy, led by the President of the United States, then they can explain why they have a problem with John F Kennedy because that’s what he did with Krushchev, or Ronald Reagan, ’cause that’s what he did with Gorbachev, or Richard Nixon ’cause that’s what they did with Mao. That’s exactly the kind of diplomacy we need to keep us safe,” Obama said defiantly.

Obama then moved onto domestic issues, criticizing McCain’s health care plan and likened it to the president’s policies over the past eight years. “Like George Bush, he’s offering a plan that works great if you’re already healthy and wealthy, but if you don’t have health care or if you’re struggling to pay for it, John McCain’s only answer is a tax cut that won’t guarantee coverage and wont make it affordable,” he observed, adding, “I don’t think that the American people can afford to double down on the failed health care policies of the Bush years, I believe we need to end them.”

And he didn’t stop there - during the Q&A, Obama dismissed McCain’s record on fuel efficiency and the environment. “For him to come to Oregon as an environmental president, but his big strategy is to do more drilling and to have a gas tax holiday for three months, that’s a phony solution,” he said. “John McCain has consistently been opposed to fuel efficiency standards, to raising fuel efficiency standards on cars. How is he gonna meet any of these targets? Maybe he’s kind of imagining it the way he did imagining get out of the war in Iraq,” he said caustically.

For good measure, Obama noted McCain has not announced plans to fix Social Security or to reduce college tuition costs. Obama concluded, “He hasn’t said, because this is not something that he thinks necessarily is a priority.”

If there was any doubt that Obama believes the Democrats will unite to take on John McCain, he made it clear today. “So that’s the debate that we’re looking forward to having and I believe that whoever the Democratic nominee is, that the other person is going to be standing right next to ‘em making the case for fundamental change for America.”

The McCain camp, of course, weighed in on Obama’s Oregon Offensive, saying the junior senator from Illinois showed “weak judgment” by his willingness to bring the Iranian president to the world stage, and defended the Arizona senator’s commitment to increasing fuel standards, by sending out a list of times the Republican  has voted for strengthening CAFE standards.

Obama is NOT QUALIFIED!!! He has many good qualities - BUT - he is NOT MATCH for McCain on foreign policy. The party leaders had to defend their WEAK candidate on foreign policy while he was having a speech prepared so he would not look foolish.
Obama cannot even connect with the working class American voters - how can he sit down with terrorits nations????

What abut KY - not going there like WV - don’t need those type voters????
How ARROGANT!
Obama will never be elected due to his WEAK questionable background.
Hillary Clinton is our only hope for President - or maaybe McCain - Never obama.

Immigration is sometimes brought up as being an issue of the day.

Immigration is a LEGAL PROCESS by definition and is NOT the problem.

The real issue is illegal entry and trespassers mostly from mexico.

Of course politicians will never say this because it’s not politically correct.

Illegal entry and trespassing is not immigration.

Obama’s historical ignorance proves Bush’s point

Reeling from his inference of an accusation of being an appeaser to terrorists, Barack Obama lashed out against President Bush and John McCain.

Obama will pimp america to far left radicals, Islamists, and illegal mexicans

The Lessons of West Virginia
By Rosslyn Smith

After all, this campaign is being brought by to us by a media that gives new life to a traditional proverb satirist Jonathan Swift’s once cited that there are none so blind as those who will not see. Swift may have been a product of the Enlightenment, but he anticipated the relationship that much of the modern media political narrative has to the concepts of reason and truth.

You have to love politicians. Barack seriously thinks he knows more about foreign policy then a President who has been in office for 7 1/2 years. What a smuck! I love it though as with a simple statement Barack showed his weakness and made himself look even worse then usual. Get ready Obama supporters. Your candidate is in for a very long couple of months!!

The new standard efficiency pushed through by Bush/McCain for 2012 is going to be 30 MPG. That’s a joke.

We could make it 40 MPG and stop selling SUV’s. Bush gave $15K tax rebates to small businesses after 9-11 if they would buy an SUV. They are on the used car lots now.

It is time to get serious about global warming. McCain gives himself away by two points.
1. McCain’s goal to turn global warming around is for 2050. That is like saying, let our grandchildren figure it out.
Some scientists say we have to lower carbon emissions below todays level by 2012 or it is going to be too late.
His goal date of 2050 is not just a joke, it is obscene.
2. McCain says MARKET forces will fix global warming. MARKET forces means accountants and their “bottom line”.
We are already having economy by MARKET FORCES, and what you see is the result of accountants ruling the World Trade Organization. For him to say MARKET FORCES will do ANYTHING about global warming is just hoping no one understands him except Wall Street. I understand Market forces. They are about TODAY’s profit and not about long term planning for your grandchildren.

As for McCains 30 MPG proposal by 2012, I really don’t see anything wrong with it as we must remember we have to allow the car industry time to prepare for such drastic changes.

Try, vote for me, I will restore the Constitution. Oh, I forgot, your husband did unconstitutional signing statements and you can say nothing about that. Even John McCain says he wont do that one.

And HRC, you say nothing about the loss of our civil rights in the anti-terrorist Act, like the right to be charged with a crime, so you can get the Appalachian vote. Change your party affiliation to Republican or Conservative and run again against president Obama in 2012, Hillary. Then it will help you that you are popular among uneducated people who make their decisions based on race and fear of terrorists and not upon the Constitutional ideals our fathers and forefathers fought to keep.

Comment by David, Santa Rosa, CA

As we seeing across the USA, most republicans are good, honest, caring people who have a true and valid philosophical difference with us on the left, which I respect very much. But then, there are the “Rush Limbaugh’s” of the party. It’s you who ruined the party and arguably the United States reputation and global standing. Your blind ignorance to your religion created this horrendous situation in which we find ourselves.

We’re in the 21st century people. God n’ guns just don’t cut it anymore. You are living in the past century. The era of the whacko right was, and forever will be, an embarrassing stain in American History. Your time is over. The GOP needs to re-invent itself. Even the majority of republicans are saying this. That’s why we Dems are taking all your long held conservative seats nationwide.

We had cars that got 40mpg 20 years ago. then gov put in a bunch of regulations. Then they put ethanol in our gas which means we get less mpg.

Bruce,

Sorry, stepped away for a minute.

As for global warming, I will research it for myself but needless to say there is a huge controversary over Gores movie right now and the scientific data is in question.

As for the technology needed for 30+ MPG it’s there and being developed even further but it’s not going to happen over night. What I suggest we do, remember I am a conservative, is to open up the oil fields such as ANWAR and on our shorelines. ANWAR alone s estimated to have enpugh fuel at present consumption rates for 30 years. Given it would take about $20/barrell to produce we could definately get the cost of fuel in check.

For comparison we pay $120/barrell now for approximately $4.00/gallon. That (and remember it’s a comparison) would mean $20/Barrell would be about 70 cents/gallon. I recommend we add $1.30 to that for $2.00/gallon using $1/gallon for Research and Development for alternate fuels and 30 cents/gallon for Social Security.

How can a one time senator from the slums of Chicago who hasn’t done anything for them even think about being president? This is the best the DNC can come up with. AMAZING!

Comment by Renee

One well known senator said it gave him chills down his spine to think of McCain in the Oval Office because of his temperment. McCain has said that he doesn’t know much about the economy and was reading Greenspan’s book. In watching the debates, it doesn’t seem that he has the mental clarity that we would want in the office of President. It seems that he relives the past a lot when he was a prisoner of war and wants this war to continue even though we are spending hundreds of billions of dollars a year on it. Because of his temperment, I would not feel comfortable if he were to take that much talked about 3:00 a.m. call and by the time he would leave office, if one term, he would be 76 if two 80. By then he could have more problems other than mental clarity, but that in itself is enough.

WE ARE MISSING DIPLOMACY.

Comment by DB

Dwight,

Two points here. First, the Saudi King isn’t compelled to produce more oil as he’s really competing against himself. Now open the fields in Alaska and that changes dramatically as we wouldn’t need a drop of their oil and yet without us, the OPEC nations lose SIGNIFICANT amounts of money.

Second point. To even suggest McCain is a continuation of President Bushes years in office is ludicrous and while you may believe that right now, I suggest you look at both, compare where they stand on certain issues over the years, and recalculate your thoughts.

All you guys who say you can’t vote for a black man or I’ll vote for Powell – he’s black (he’s not running) or maybe you didn’t say it but it certainly is clear to me, you are PREJUDICE. John McCain and Hillary Clinton have both said they will not sit down unconditionally with rogue leaders; while Barack Obama says he will. Now, both Senators McCain and Clinton explain it is a matter of not allowing these rogue leaders to legitimaize themselves.
