McCain Sets Goals for His Presidency
Columbus, OH—
In a speech outlining what the country and world will look like during and after his presidency, Senator John McCain said he believes that the war in Iraq will be won and troops will be home by 2013:
“By January 2013, America has welcomed home most of the servicemen and women who have sacrificed terribly so that America might be secure in her freedom. The Iraq War has been won.”
This is the first time the presumptive Republican nominee has said that he hopes the war will end by the completion of his first term. He denied that he was setting a timetable for withdrawal.
“It is not a timetable. It is victory. It is victory, which I have always predicted. I didn’t know when we were going to win World War II, but I knew we were going win,” he told reporters aboard the Straight Talk Express. “Every conflict we have been in history I don’t know exactly when we were going to win, but we won and this one we are going to win and that will allow us then to bring our troops home with victory and honor.”
Days before the Florida primary on January 29, McCain accused Governor Mitt Romney of setting timetables for troop withdrawal. At the time, Romney believed it may have led to his loss in Florida.
In his speech, McCain went on to describe what Iraq will be like at the end of his term, “Iraq is a functioning democracy, although still suffering from the lingering effects of decades of tyranny and centuries of sectarian tension. Violence still occurs, but it is spasmodic and much reduced,” McCain said, “The United States maintains a military presence there, but a much smaller one, and it does not play a direct combat role.”
McCain also sees a future with no major terrorist attacks in America and sets the lofty goal of the capture or death of Osama Bin Laden.
His forecast: He sees the country experiencing “robust economic growth; “world food crisis has ended”; the country would be “well on the way to independence from foreign sources of oil”; the “southern border is secure.” He said he looks forward to the day when Congress sends him bills containing no earmarks–at all.
He concluded the speech with a commitment to bi-partisanship admitting that he was “well aware” that he cannot achieve all of this alone, “I often have in the past, work with anyone of either party to get things done for our country.”
The Democratic National Committee promptly issued a response:
“The reality behind Senator McCain’s new rhetoric is that his plans either ignore the problems he identifies or actually makes them worse,” the statement from Howard Dean says, “Whether he is taking President Bush’s fiscal policies to new extremes, continuing a stay-the-course strategy in Iraq that has distracted from the real war on terror, or pretending he would bring transparency to government after refusing to even release his own tax records, Senator McCain found yet another way to show he’s the wrong choice for America’s future.”

MsSwin….No one knew when the Iraq war began that Iran would want to “take over” that country. THUS, the Iraq war has lasted longer because, in reality, Iran militants keep coming across the border into Iraq to fight U.S. troops. 20/20 Hindsight is So very easy to have.
SWEETIE, which goes to show you that Bush did not have a plan of action, just invade and then things will fall into place. NOT
Andrew B - and…… Obama doesn’t know how many states are in the US. I’d prefer someone who knows about the US than someone who thinks they know about Iraq. God Bless America and God Bless Senator Clinton.

McCain just read his diary entry of his best wet dream. He nor any Republicans have shown any signs of being able to come close to accomplishing what he laid out in this speech. Heck, McBain even says I won’t be able to do this stuff I am about to spew. What is interesting though is the LOW number of blog entries on this story on any site. That tells the real story, my friends.

Obama when confronted on the last debate about capital gains taxes was left befuddled.
He intends to raise them to nearly double their current rate. Historical evidence shows, lower cap gains tax rates RAISE government revenue. Obama when offered this had no explanation why his raises wouldn’t lower revenue…he just said “they’re not fair”.

To add….after the last debate on ABC..Obama cancelled the next scheduled debate…you glean from that what you like.
McCain is a non issue. If it wasn’t for Obama and Hillary straightening him out every now and then he wouldn’t be in the News. He has nothing presidential. Nobody likes him even his own Mother can barely tolerate him. His wife is scared of him. It goes on and on, McCain is not a person with many presidential qualities. I believe what I said here is good.

Obams is proposing over 800 billion dollars in spending and more government if elected. He states (on his website) that a considerable portion of the funding would come from the end of the conflict in Iraq. What Obama doesn’t know, or won’t say, is that war funding is emergency funding…he has no access to it. Only way to address that is lose the proposed programme or tax someone for the funding.

Problem for you Michael…McCain hasn’t exhibited anything resembling the accusation you forward against him. Just more of your emotional non-sense to inflame rather than inform.
################################################################
Again, there you go giving the Republicans a blind eye when they have misbehaved. While in your heart you now you would not have given Bill Clinton this blind eye, if he had started this mess. THIS COUNYTRY HAS HAD ENOUGH OF THE POLITICAL POSTURING OF YOU AND THE REPUBLICAN PARTY>
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
I speak from clarity Michael not from “my heart” (ie: emotion) as you do.
Furthermore, I told you last time we had a similar exchange (and after numerous other occasions along similar lines) that if you continue to assert the silliness of the “what if Bill Clinton” deflection, when you were told CLEARLY that I don’t see it as a party issue but as a security issue, that I’d consider you a fool. You may now consider youurself a fool Michael.
##############################################################
Tel, you are a typical conservative. You cannot argue a point without calling me names. You seem not to be able to handle the fact that someone has a different take on the issues.
Combined with the 30 seats that the GOP lost in 2006, that would leave the party facing a 70-vote deficit against Democrats in the House — a state of powerlessness reminiscent of Republicans’ long wilderness years in the 1960s and ’70s.
Money meltdown:
The NRCC has now spent about $3 million to defend three House seats in the most conservative parts of the county — Dennis Hastert’s seat in exurban Chicago, Richard Baker’s seat in the Baton Rouge, La., area and Roger Wicker’s seat in northeast Mississippi. Until this year, Republicans rarely had to break a sweat to hold on to these seats. They have now lost all three of them, and the committee is even less-equipped financially to compete fully in an ever-widening playing field for November.
McCain today, 05/15/08 in his speech said “Illegal imigrations has been topped” and “Our boarders are now under control” (maybe not quite the quote). Neither is correct according to all of the reports on both.
Thanks, Ray Block, Paducah, KY
I listened to McCains speech and he doesn’t even believe he will get all that accomplhished. He didn’t do anything except run to GWB and get a speech handed to him. There’s no way he can separate himself from Bush and thats why hes going to lose in Nov.

McCain voted for Bush and always said he voted for Bush. The Huffington Post says he didn’t, but they have absolutely no proof.
McCain said Sunni when he meant Shiite, just like anyone would mix up words about anything.
Last night Hilary said something to the affect “When this is all over, Democrats will rally around me or McCain, I mean me or Obama, to beat McCain”.
Does this mean that Hilary is confusing Obama with McCain?
No it just means she was going to both names and she said one before the other.
McCain has been to Iraq and Afganistan more than Obama and Hilary combined.

You can tell alot about what a person knows in a debate. Obama has lost every debate just like Bush did and people voted for him any way. Now Obama does not want to debate because it shows he is not qualified to be president. He will have to debate McCain pay attention Obama does not have a clue. His speeches are prepared for him by a very good speech writer. When Obama is on his own you see him for what he really is all rhetroric and no substance. The Dems are trying to cram him down are throats so they can run the government the way they want to people like Kerry and Kennedy. They know Obama does not know how to run this country. They will provide him with a speech and he will be a puppet on a string.

I respect McCain for his military service to the country, but as a presidential candidate he’s in over his head. This farce about the vision for 2013 is juvenile stuff, and truly a reflection of his deteriorating state of mind. People need help now, with the economy, jobs, health care, gas prices, not some psychedelic vision of the future.
