McCain Reacts to GOP Loss In Mississippi

Obetz, OH–

After the Republicans suffered another stunning loss in a traditional GOP stronghold—this time in Mississippi, Senator John McCain admits he is worried that the rejection of Republican candidates will spill into the general election. He maintained that he is confident that his vision will bring him victory in November:

“We have to re-energize our base. We have to commit to being careful stewards of their tax dollars. We need to be committed to our environment and to make sure that we take the necessary steps to protect our nation and the globe. But, most of all as I said earlier stop the out of control spending. We committed again to be careful stewards of American people’s tax dollars and do it right and we’ve got a lot of work to do and I have a lot of work to do,” McCain told reporters, “But I have no delusions that this campaign will be a very difficult challenge.”

Republican candidate Greg Davis’ loss in Mississippi to Democrat Travis Childers in a special election yesterday sent shock waves throughout the GOP.

At the impromptu press conference, McCain also had to answer about his campaign’s connections with staffers that also happen to be lobbyists and their work with foreign governments. Last weekend two advisors left because of past work they did with the government of Myanmar and today the Wall Street Journal reported that campaign manager, Rick Davis’ lobbying firm hired a public-relations company to help improve the image of a Ukrainian political party. Former Russian president Vladimir Putin endorses the party—someone McCain is not shy at railing against on the campaign trail. McCain did not comment directly on Davis, but stressed that any new hires will be closely examined:

“People will be more thoroughly vetted. And we will make sure that is the case. We found out that these two individuals had represented that country and so they left and we will vet everyone very seriously and make sure that it’s not a repetition.”

This afternoon it also came to light that John McCain’s wife, Cindy sold two million dollars worth of mutual funds with connections to Sudan. McCain said he didn’t know anything about it, but that he also urges regular investors to take a similar course, “I just heard that, it was one of the country’s largest mutual funds. Obviously we didn’t know about it. I didn’t know any about it, until I saw the story, obviously, because I don’t have anything to do with her finances. But they divested as soon as that information was known. I’m told one of the largest mutual funds in America.”

The DNC responded to the sale calling for Mrs. McCain to release her tax returns:

“The fact the McCain family was holding Sudan-related investments even as John McCain was out on the campaign trail calling for sanctions is a reminder of why the American people expect and deserve full disclosure from their elected officials. Unless John McCain’s idea of being a different kind of Republican means disrespecting the voters by denying them the right to examine the links between his political career and financial interests, he should immediately release Cindy McCain’s tax returns.”

McCain held the press conference after he toured a recycling plant. Before he took questions he commented on today’s decision to grant polar bears an endangered species. He said that he strongly supports the move and believes it should have happened “long ago.”

Open Letter to McCain

Mac, you don’t energize your base by being a Democrat on environmental issues. You are advocating the same cap ‘n trade that your opponents offer. It will destroy our economy, stop growth and put and already fragile economy into a tailspin and for what.

Leading world scientists are saying we are entering a 12 to 15 year cooling period. Gore’s prediction that there would never again be a viable snow pack in the Rocky mountains is sheer lunacy!! This winter had one of the biggest snow packs in many many years. I was as Redford’s Sundance resort and they decided to close it even though skiing was still great in April because they needed to get ready for summer. Nearby Alta Resort had well over 550 inches!!! Here in Washington State the resorts in the Cascades are still open for the longest season EVER!!!!!

Your base is smart. It includes many scientists who won’t pander to the Gore-ites. Gore is very much like Chicken Little. Remember poor Chicken Little. When an acorn fell on his head he thought the sky was falling and ran around terrifying his neighbors with the news. There has always been Global warming and Global cooling. Gore found a little evidence based on temporary cycles and then ran around like Chicken Little predicting gloom and doom with no substantive evidence. Scientists who didn’t agree with him simply didn’t get their research funded (many examples).

Mac, you say that if we are wrong and there is no global warming after all, the only effect of trying to stop CO2 emissions is leaving a cleaner world for our kids. How about the economic ruin we will leave to our kids?

Get in touch with your base soon or you may find they will just stay home on election day since neither party has given us a candidate worth a hill of beans.

If you want to really alienate your base stick whiny, nasty, bigoted little Huclkeberry on your ticket as VP. Is that the price you offered to have him conspire with you in WV, Florida etc. unseat the only viable candidate in this time of world and economic crisis, Mitt Romney.

Be put on notice. In all the Western states Romney is VERY popular and Hucklebee will be an albatross around your neck. Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Arizona, Nevada etc. You will not be president if you alienate all these states with Huckabee. We despise him out here. In Washington, for example, Huck couldn’t even get the evangelical vote. Even after withdrawing he pulled almost equal with Huck in both the primary and the caucuses in spite of Huck having his ministerial minion, Pastor Joe Fuiten sending out his anti-Mitt and anti-Mormon nasty grams. Indeed that is one of the reason many of us decided we didn’t want a bigoted little Southern Minister with a very bad record of public corruption parading around acting “holier than thou.”

He is the only choice if we want a country in four years and another chance to actually elect a decent president. At least I don’t think he hates America or “typical white people” like someone we know. He actually likes black people too.

Just too bad he is so out of touch on issues like the border security (seems strange from someone who claims to be strong on defense) and is an absolute “useful idiot” on Global Warming issues. History will laugh at us for our stupidity in trying to change the course of nature–might as well try to stave off an avalanche by holding out ones hand.

Besides, the eruption of a major volcano will guarantee global cooling for up to a decade. It has already begun just like after Mt. St. Helens blew her top.

I THINK MCCAIN HAS TOO MANY CONFLICTS OF INTEREST WITHIN HIS CAMPAIGN. FULL DISCLOSURE OF HIS WIFES FINANCES IS NOT AN IMPOSSIBLE REQUEST FOR THE PRESIDENT OF THE US. SUDAN WHICH IS A STATE THAT SPONSORS TERRORISM SHOULD NOT BE DOING BUSINESS WITH THE FIRST FAMILY. AND IF HE IS NOT AWARE OF WHAT/WHO HIS WIFE IS DOING BUSINESS WITH.. GOD SAFE AMERICA.

McCain is right — the GOP has lost its bearings under Bush. Time to restore the Republican party to its base. Cut spending. Balance the budget. Restore personal freedom and privacy, and stay out of people’s social lives. No more overseas adventures. Get back to our roots before our party is completely destroyed!

I am sorry but it will be in your interest as a Mcain supporter to want full disclosure. Whoever his rival is has completed that disclosure process and it will help him with levelling the playing field so he can focus on the important policy issues. Here is where Mcain is going to have a problem with his own finance law– assuming its a private matter spousal support which is encouraged of all candidates gets thrown out the window and she becomes another donor to his campaign. that will be a violation of campaign law since she has contributed more the the legal limit. mind you he uses her plane to campaign. that in itself is a super violation.

John McCain says he’s a defender of democracy, and that he is the “straight talk express”.. But the folks running his campaign have been playing for the other team.

Two of John McCain’s senior campaign staff were forced to resign this week after revelations that their lobbying firm was paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to represent Burma’s brutal military dictatorship.1

And it gets worse—turns out this goes all the way to the top. Charlie Black, McCain’s campaign chairman, ran a lobbying firm that represented brutal dictators like Ferdinand Marcos in the Philippines and Mobutu Sese Seko in Zaire—along with terrorist rebel Jonas Savimbi in Angola. Together, these men have been responsible for massive human suffering.2

And for good measure, Charlie Black has represented war profiteer Blackwater Worldwide and Iraqi fraudster Ahmed Chalabi.

McCain continues to flip-flop on positions, like “Global Warming”. Yet, conservatives support him, instead of the true conservative republican candidate, Bob Barr of Georgia. He has gotten fed-up with the GOP and is running as a Libertarian, for President.

Both McCain and Obama are just men. Neither is a saint nor sinner any more than we all are and I say that as an Obama supporter. I’ve probably gone over the line at times when writing about McCain, although it is usually in defense of Obama about the nonsense charges leveled at him on this blog or the racist rantings I’ve seen posted here. I wish the debate could be on substantive issues. This should be so in light of the vast foreign policy and other differences between these candidates.

Dust,

Very well. It seems there is no stopping how this campaign will descend into the gutter. I would just point out that our nation has befriended all types of despotic regimes in the Middle East. Many of those nations suppress their own people and it has lead or contributed to the rise of radical Islam and that has contributed to our problems. I don’t think this Odinga nonsense is going to sink Obama.

Someone explain the change Obama is talking about. Best I can tell he is just another politician like all the rest of them. He keeps saying change. Ok Im all for change. But then you look at his policies. Socialist? Is that what he calls change? Ok fine. So basicly Obama supporters are just people who want something for nothing. They see Obama as their ticket to a free ride to everything.

No thanks. I want change as much as the next person but socialism isnt change.

How anyone can vote for this man in unbelievable. The problem with America is the mentality that politics is a sport. You have pundits like Sean Hannity making a living off of preying on sensitive subjects like race. Guys like him are like paid referees who try to determine the outcome of a game. It’s great to here this negativity if it’s your team and it is clear, intentional evilness if you are on the other team. But at some point, if your a fan of the team that the refs favor, the moral part of you has to say enough of this. This election isnt the Yankees against the Red Sox or the Lakers against Celtics. That’s how Democrats and Republicans go back and forth with the lives of the American people. We are in a world where winning and election is more important than doing what is right. Today, 82% of Americans say they are not happy with the direction of this nation but many will try to elect someone with similar policies. This isnt because they necessarily believe it will make their lives better. People just dont want to lose. Democrats dont want to lose as well as Republicans. If John McCain offered a different direction I’d be open to vote for him. Unfortunately, he is right in line with the Bush policies that frankly doesnt work for the regular person. The economy has grown at the top while middle class income has shraank by 3%. This is the 1st time since polling that the everyday working citizen’s income has decreased while the economy has grown. But people like Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh and other will divert everyone’s attention in typical far right wing attack fashion. They will play on people’s biases by painting Obama a liberal with terrorist ties. They will do their best to create doubt by throwing out muslim connections, name calling(most liberal/Socialist/Marxist and every other word with ist at the end. They will make you feel very comfortable with reasons why you should hate Obama. However in the end, we will be stuck with the same troubles if they are successful. But unlike the Yankees against the Red Sox, we’ll have Policies against the American people. Guess who’s usually the winner.

While I like McCain personally, I think he is to close to Bush on many things. However, the one overriding concern is his age. We really do want our leader elected, and I wouldn’t want his wife running the country should he become mentally incapacitated like a president did a few years ago.

People have a way of regressing when they hit their limit. I’ve seen old people suffering dementia that become racist, or excessively fearful locking every window and baring every door.

John McCain is a good man, but his day has passed. As a senator, he can function. His wisdom is checked by 99 other senators and a VP. As president, he is simply to old.

I know McCain isn’t Bush 2.0. If he were he’d have NO chance this fall. However, on major party issues, including economic and foreign affairs, he seems very Bush-like. McCain’s foreign policy particularly scares me, as I’m all for the the old Republican rule of non-intervention, generally speaking (obviously there are exceptions). McCain seems like a shoot-and-then-ask-questions kind of guy, and that scares me a bit.

Well, well, well,

Dust is back spewing his venom against Romney again and supporting Huckabee. So I need to repost all the stuff to prove that Huckabee is not a conservative except on social issues?

Or, should I just point to your post the other day where you said that Hagee is an honorable man.

You evangelicals make me sick. It’s ok for “one of your own” to mock Catholics (where you all stemmed from, by the way) and to slam Mormons, Jehova’s Witnesses and Seventh Day Adventists and you call that honorable. And then you dare bring up someone burning or persecuting Christians.

And you wonder why the Republican party is fracturing and allowing a liberal like McCain in as our only hope????

Hypocrisy and bigotry all over again, just like your preferred candidate. You have doomed us to either a socialist (and the one thing I agree with you on is that Obama will probably win in November) or a maverick pretending to be a Republican.

Comment by Dean

Holly,

Thank you for once again brining up Dick Morris.

Just remember, that Dick was the one that got Huckabee elected as Lt. Governor in Arkansas back in 1993 and 1994- BEFORE he was fired by the Clintons for passing secrets on to a prostitute.

The same Dick Morris that was advising Huckabee’s presidential campaign. The same Dick Morris that calls Mike Huckabee a fiscal conservative.

Shall I go on?

Maybe Huckabee was in on the burning of Christians because they weren’t the “right kind.”

Comment by JonesH

I agree that at the beginning Obama had a pretty smooth ride, but over the last few months I think he’s been pretty thoroughly vetted. Quite frankly, I’m tired of hearing about his Muslim way-back-back-backgound and Rev. Wright, and I get most of my news from mainstream sources. I bet most Americans could tell you about his background and association with Wright, but nothing of his policies. That’s not the kind of electorate I want going to the polling stations in the fall.
And Bush was a shoot-from-the-hip kinda guy, and that’s not working out too well for us. I’d hope there is some middle ground, but I don’t think McCain is going to provide that, especially with Leiberman wispering in his ear.

JonesH,

Please explain exactly how McCain has “embraced Bush”? The liberals and MSM love to throw that out, but if it were even remotely true, then conservatives like me would be at least somewhat supportive of him.

Other than his stance on the war against terror, which by the way Lieberman also has the same stance and he is not accused of “embracing” Bush, conservatives view him as wrong on almost everything.

Which is the reason that Obama stands such a good chance in November- the base of the Republican party is not at all enthused FOR McCain, only AGAINST Obama (or Clinton).

He appolgized, did not hear any appolgy from Wright!!!!!!! And you are wrong about Christians, the Bible says there is only one docturine, if any preaches different they are not of Christ. I read my Bible for the truth I quit listening to what other people told me and became a truth seeker, I will welcome all who claim Christ, but if they go against the Bible I will tell them they are wrong, Christians certainly did not burn any people alive……..
