To decide what the cadidate's qualifications ought to be, we should first look at what problems we face. The number one problem is the Iraq war which drains our resources, hurts our economy, the value of the dollar, and our ability to do things at home which desperately need doing, like education, infrastructure, and health care. Why are we at war in Iraq? Because the Bush crowd went after Sadam and Iraqi oil for their own reasons, which are not in the interest of Americans at large. The war serves only American imperial interests, big oil, and military contractors. Those folks have taken over our foreign policy years ago and need to be stopped. So our job is to hire a CEO who understands this and is NOT beholding to imperial interests, but is prepared to replace US bully policies in the world with more respectful and considerate ones, like dealing with other nations--friendly or not--as equals. (One should ask why there were people in this world prepared to sacrifice themselves to hurt us in the first place. Remember, it did not used to be that way!) Now look at the candidates applying for the job who are viable choices. John McCain is a fine gent with a record of service, but he is steeped in the same old mentality, beholding to most of the same old connections that caused our troubles in the first place. Conservatives ought to have a look at the budget deficit growth under Bush and previous "conservative" administrations. Were is the evidence for conservatism? At least Clinton I balanced the budget, but he and Clinton II are also deeply vested and beholden to the prevailing WA line, which we must break to have any hope for real improvements. That leaves us Obama, who shows a new vision in international affairs and compassion for working Americans. My money, and my hope, is on OBAMA, from the perspective of 50 years of keen political observation. Think about it!
