McCain Continues His “Green” Tour
North Bend, WA–
Senator John McCain continued his “green” tour of the Northwest today with a stop in North Bend, Washington. He was clear that he wants to be seen as a progressive when it comes to curbing climate change, “I will be a President of the United States for the environment. I have a long record of advocacy for our environment and I’m proud of that.”
The presumptive Republican nominee stressed many of the points in his speech on global warming yesterday, such as the importance of cap and trade, the reduction of greenhouse gases, and the link between stalling climate change and protecting America’s national security.
McCain made a clean break with President Bush on the issue of the environment. He was not shy in describing his conflicts with the administration on this issue:
“The President and I have disagreed on this issue for many years. It isn’t a recent disagreement. Beginning in 2002 or 2003 I held hearings as chairman of the commerce committee and I took great exception to the testimony by administration officials on this issue,” He told reporters, “So there’s a long-standing, significant, deep, and strong differences on this issue between myself and the administration. . .”
The Arizona senator said he would be a better protector for the environment than either of his Democratic rivals because his proposal is “doable” and he has been involved in the issue for many years, “They have never, to my knowledge, been involved in legislation, or hearings, nor engagement on this issue. I have a long history,” McCain said, “I traveled around the world and seen the impacts of climate change on the world. I’ve held hearings beginning back after the 2000 presidential campaign.”
The Obama campaign was quick to respond hitting McCain with his own words, “While Barack Obama has brought Republicans and Democrats together around plans to raise our fuel standards and invest in renewable energy, John McCain’s ‘long history’ involves opposing countless measures to invest in renewable fuels and alternative energy technology.”
McCain also said that no matter who might get upset–even if it is his Republican colleagues– that his job as president would be to do what is best for the country and the environment, “I have made some Republicans mad in the past. And I may make them mad now. But my job is to do what I know is best for this nation, particularly where our environment is concerned,” McCain continued, “I believe we can get the majority of Republicans, Democrats, and others in America to join together in this effort.”
In an environmental roundtable he held at an education center overlooking the picturesque Cascade foothills, he gave a dig at some of those colleagues saying to local environmental leaders, “We still have a few geezers we have to convince.”
McCain also went on a walk around the Cedar Watershed–where he spoke with reporters and the roundtable was held. Despite the cold rain, he went on a “mini-hike” and was given a tour of some of the environmental damage the area has gone through due to global warming.

i wouldnt like him saying that about age.
We still have a few geezers we have to convince.”
guess its ok to put everyone else down as well. elitist.
see they are all elitist.
McCain understands the problem and knows what kinds of solutions will work. I don’t buy into global warming but who can argue that dependance on smog-producing foreign oil aren’t bad things? McCain is all about next-generation nuclear power plants and I am 100% behind him on that one.
McCain is a senile old man, 7 years past retirement age, who belongs in a nursing home. He can’t even remember he voted for Bush in 2000.

Well no one holds your impotence against you except for your wife
Our inept Congress again shows why it has earned its dismal approval rating. Congress talks about energy independence, yet again votes not to open new areas to drilling. This is wonderful news for OPEC.
how would you like them to drill in your back yard.
i could just see what you think of the smell.
not to mention the great health benefits. none
oh well there is always eminent domain . just take your property.
we have’nt even talked about changing the enviroment in the area permanently.
just remember your sacrifice for the rest of us. the oil company , happy and using us as the excuse.
oh boy ,
we really need to start thinking about manufacturing more efficeint cars to light bulbs.
japan and europe are ahead of us. we need to get these jobs back so we can compete. work on
energy dependance. look at France nuclear progam more efficient , recylcle more and less by products to store. not to mention safety in storing. everything made in China. it does’nt mean better. we need to compete. we need to get a chance to keep the jobs here not send them overseas. stop sending our young men to other countries and coming back to nothing to look forward to.lot of issues. not one of them can fix this in short. but wich one has the guts to start us
in the right direction. we all live here. who will we listen in november.
living the same cycle for the last 8 years.
CHANGE

ANWR is already public property and is used for nothing currently. No one lives near it and no one would be harmed by it. It WOULD however provide us a lot of domestic petroleum and give American companies a better option than to buy most of their oil from terrorist countries. It blows my mind that Democrats are so staunchly against drilling in the ANWR. Bunch of morons.
McCain takes the sensible path on this issue and not the pie in the sky crap Gore shovels and Obama swallows.
President John McCain!
John Mccain is also opposed to drilling in ANWR.
like i said rodhead
most folks that enjoy that last untouched prestine wilderness do.
you must not have enjoyed going to americas natural parklands GROWING UP.
if you did, you would not talk moronic my friend.
like is saId, since that is not a discussion. i would like them to start looking for oil in your back yard.
duh, just destroy and rape the earth. its all we got . once its touched, its no going back.
At $4.00 a gallon, nothing would be prettier to me than the sight of a brand new refinery and a forest of oil derricks in the background.
I’m with you Jeff X.
Dwight,we have to do SOMETHING until we find a better fuel source. We need less dependence on Canada (our largest supplier), OPEC, and Mexico.
If they want to drill in my back yard….go for it, with technology today, the drills are much cleaner.
Please do some research on ANWR, it would provide about 6 months oil supply, and would not be up and running for about 10 years. It would have little impact on the price of oil. This is according to experts in the economic field, not dumb politicans. The ANWR would be destroyed for 100s of years to resolve something that would last a few months. Such forward thinking we have here from the Republican party.
The oil industry made a profit of about 400 billion dollars from the current price of oil, who in their right mind things they want to increase supply? Remember the lower the supply the higher the demand = higher the price
I really wish McCain would shut up about the environment. It shows me once again that he is a traitor to the conservative cause. I might vote for Obama and hope McCain is defeated and we have a strong shining horse conservative candidate in 2012.
Wake up people, there is a perfect source with the by-product of plain pure water. The process is simple, just split the H2O with electricity and you have hydrogen and oxygen. You have a Fuel source with a catalyst. We also have vehicles that run on hydrogen.
With the price of gas almost the same as hydrogen I think we may be there. Finally.
All of you people out there who want to tax the profit of big gas company’s I really with you would stop and think. (I know this is beyond most Americans that have been programmed by the liberal news media.) Do you really think the democrats will stop taxing profits; oil companies will just be the beginning.
Think, Who are the stockholders of the large company’s? Could be your 401K plans. Do we really need to tax the profits, the end result increase the gas price at the pump and reduce our income at retirement.
We need to dump McCain! completely unworthy! Draft anyone else! Ron Paul would be great but take anyone over McCain.
I still hoping somewhere in the wings there is a republican ready to come out and take controll of this election and give us someone to vote for. Conservatives /republicans are falling away from McCain like flies. he can’t be trusted, he panders, sounds more like clintons everyday. I believe true republicans would rally around them no matter how late they get started.
And as far as clinton being VP for Obama I think he would do better with rosie Odonnald or rose ann Barr.
i think McCain needs to keep his mouth shut to keep the conservative vote. I think he is waiting so long for his vp choice so he can slip h clinton last moment. libs stick together
a conservative 3rd party is needed for 2012. the rep. are going in lib. direction the same way the dems. did a long time ago leaving all the conservatives on both sides behind.
McCain is willing to send the next FIVE generations into war, willing to commit my children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and great-great-great grandchildren to war in the Middle East.
FIVE GENERATIONS!
I will never vote for him, ever.
EVERYONE SAY IT LOUDER FOR OBAMAAAA
