Obama: Michigan and Florida Will Be Seated

Portland, OR–

Even as the Democratic primary seems to be coming to a close, the delegate situation in Michigan and Florida remains unresolved. Today, both reporters and voters asked Senator Barack Obama about the on-going battle.

At a town hall in Bend, OR, a woman asked the Democratic frontrunner given the outcome of the race if he has “considered giving her Florida?” referring to Senator Hillary Clinton.

Obama chuckled at first, but then said the delegates will be seated, “Let me say this. I love Florida, I love Michigan. The people of Michigan and Florida they will be represented at the convention–their delegates will be seated and we will figure out a way where they are fully participating in the process.”

He defended his opposition to a re-vote explaining to the crowd that he stuck by the rules not to campaign in Florida and Michigan because both states broke DNC regulations and moved their primaries up, “Now as some people know we were told at the beginning of this race that we were not supposed to campaign in Florida and Michigan so we didn’t campaign in Florida and Michigan,” Obama said, “We played by the rules that everybody agreed to. We took our name off the ballot in Michigan because we weren’t supposed to be campaigning there. So obviously we don’t think that that was a fair contest and that it should count in the same way the other contests have counted.”

He did not agree to “give” Clinton Florida, but ended by assuring the crowd that the delegate situation would be resolved and that he knows how important those states will be in the general election, “But having said that, having said that I am confident that we will get this resolved and I have every interest because I intend to be the Democratic nominee, I have every interest in making sure that Florida and Michigan are happy. This is something that will get done. “

Oh sure…they will be seated only after the dem party has decided who will run….what a scam and a slap in the face of all the dem voters in FL and MI. You know the term to be shafted….well these voters who spent the time to vote just got shafted big time. I’m sure that Obama can be magnaminous now since these voters had nothing to do with the election of Obama….very likely they would have been Clinton and things would have been different. How convient it was for Obama to exclude you all from any formulation to consider their vote until after the primary…if I were you that is grounds to vote McCain. You can bet that McCain would not slap your face like Obama.

Wasnt Obamas’s fault that all took place - granted, he play a part by no agreeing to the revote terms, but the DNC and thoses states legistrators caused that - they were warned that if they moved their date they would be penalized - but you cant lay that on Obama

To use one of Barack’s prozaic old-school political flim-flam quotes, DON’T BE BAMBOOZLED!!!

“Now as some people know we were told at the beginning of this race that we were not supposed to campaign in Florida and Michigan so we didn’t campaign in Florida and Michigan,” “We played by the rules that everybody agreed to. We took our name off the ballot in Michigan because we weren’t supposed to be campaigning there. So obviously we don’t think that that was a fair contest and that it should count in the same way the other contests have counted.”

Blatant LIE on both counts. The Obama Campaign did not have to take his name off the ballot in Michigan and they actively campaigned there along with Edwards to have their supporters vote Uncommitted, of which I think they can split the 40% they garnered in Delegates & Popular vote, so long as Hillary gets the 55% in Delegates & Popular vote she rightfully earned by NOT actively campaigning there! Obama also ran a TV add in Florida for a week before their Primary, disqualifying him from getting ANY Delegates (Check the DNC rules). He can keep his Popular vote & Hillary should get her fair share of Delegates & Popular votes for NOT breaking the rules. If he would “have every interest in making sure that Florida and Michigan are happy”, he would have done this before. Instead his Campaign BLOCKED the efforts of the Clinton Campaign and the party leaders in Michigan and Florida from trying to make sure the voice of 2.3 million disenfranchised Democratic voters were heard!

Howard Dean & Donna Brazille, with a BIG ASSIST from the Obama Media are the ones who have effectively split the party with their thinly veiled favoritism which became very apparent after Iowa. The DNC should be ACTIVELY INVESTIGATING legitimate claims of voter fraud coming from the caucus states. Failing to do so is disenfranchising an increasing number of Democratic voters.

The Primary is NOT OVER YET! If you really want to coronate Obama before he has gotten enough Delegates, you are just adding more cars to Donna’s “train”. I’ve been on standby since the NO-SHAME DAILY HILLARY BASHING became an official media sport and if they succeed in pushing the UltraLiberal Empty Suit onto the General Election, I along with MILLIONS of soon to be EX-DEMOCRATS will board that train to INDEPENDENTS FOR HILLARY!!!

For all the “UNINFORMED” (AND THE DNC/OBAMA/MEDIA WOULD LIKE TO KEEP IT THAT WAY) The ones who keep saying that the only way Hillary is going to win is if she “steals” it by doing a backroom deal with the superdelegates are trying to pull another fast one on you. Neither Hillary nor Obama can get the magic number of Delegates to win the nomination without superdelegates help. The rules do NOT state that the SDs have to give their vote to the one with the most pledged delegates. It says that the SDs should vote their conscience as to which candidate would best represent the Democrats in the General election. We all know who she is! DEMS DA RULZ

Comment by Is it just me?

Is it just me, or does somehow, regardless of who you support — Does this primary seem “un-American” and quite un-democratic? The RNC chose to award half the delegates from Michigan and Florida. Yet — Howard Dean and the DNC chose not to allow any delegates from those two states to be awarded. How can the DNC have a nominee of 48 states? It seems quite insane from an outside perspective. Guam, the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico have voices, but not Florida and Michigan?!!!

Comment by Kenneth

Michigan and Florida broke the DNC rules.

Obama didn’t do anything wrong so why are people blaming him for anything? If Hillary was in Obama’s situation, she would’ve said exactly what he said and probably even more to ensure that the situation in FL and MI favored her.

Obama supporters are going to side with Obama and Hillary supporters are going to blame Obama. It’s sad that no one these days seems to have the objectivity to see things for what they are.

MI and FL broke the rules, Obama played by the rules established by the DNC. He should receive neither credit nor blame for anything that comes out of the decision by the DNC on what to do with their delegates.

If everyone broke the rules, then there’d be no democracy or government for that matter…it’d just be chaos.

Comment by Cathy

Obama will never vote get my vote. Period. End of statement. I will change parties and vote for McCain if Obama gets the nomintion and I promise to never vote democrat again. This just breaks my heart to have to change parties, but Obama will never get my vote.

Comment by pahqlle

I agree…The DNC needs to be punished for their failings; The MI & FL debacle and their attempt to force a lesser candidate (Obama) on the American people, just so they can keep their power. We all know Hillary would have removed their power from them; the Clintons did it before and the party elders were afraid of that change coming again…

I am definitely not voting for Obama, but he did encourage “change”, so after voting Democratic for many many years he has definitely motivated me to vote “Republican”…

Do you think that is the change he had in mind?

In reply to Mark:

“DO THEY THINK WE ARE STUPID”,

Yes, of course. Fox News posters who are anti-dem often use all caps in their postings to emphasize their baseless views, usually just repeating the simple catch phrases of the corporate republican agenda; namely, retain power through exploiting poor, moronic, white people.

The entire Fox News political blogging world is about convincing simple minded, poorly educated white people to vote for republicans.

Obama will win the primary, regardless of the efforts of Limbag, Murdoch, O’Reilly, etc. — McCain will have a tough time this fall; the economy is in the crapper, fuel prices are sky high; and the vast majority of the country wants out of Iraq (nearly a billion dollars a day spent over there doesn’t help the value of the plummeting dollar, no?)

God Bless America, land of the free (thinkers)…

Those of you complaining about the Obama campaign should look at it from 50,000 feet. How do you take a relatively obscure candidate and run and win against the Clinton machine. From day one, you have to hand it to their organization - grass roots, 50 States, etc.etc. If you were the Chief political strategist for Obama I think you would be giving yourself a big pat on the back.

Next up McCain. I think the Obama fastbreak will leave John McCain holding his athletic supporter and wondering how did he do that.

The flawed caucus process and the illegal activities that occured within, Dean Howard and the DNC, the media…Hillary had to fight all of these entities all the way. But you know what? She is bigger, smarter, and has more cajones than all of you men put together. She will be back to spit in your face in 2012. Obama will likely be hanging out in the back of some limousine ‘dreaming’ about what could have been.

McCain or write in Hillary…Nobama NO WAY.

to cathy and pahqlle. I hope u are satisfied with todays gas and food prices. You think it’s a coincidence that this has all happened while bush is in office. I hope you have healthcare too (if you do, I hope all of your loved ones has it also). Voting for Mccain will no doubt continue everything as it is now. I hope you don’t have any loved ones in the military right now. If you do, you’d better write them everyday and tell them you love them a million times. Your bigotry will be the downfall of this country. So color blinded that you will destroy yourself just to stick to your obvious racist views. You were never a real democrat. Soon as your party elects a black man you turn tail and run to the party you should’ve been in in the first place. If you are a democrat you vote democrat. It’s about the general views that a dem. has as opposed to a repub. If you are willing to switch now, it means that you never really cared about the democratic view. You just wanted to vote for a white person that seems to care. Now that your nominee is black, look at you now. Obama won’t need your vote come november. I don’t think Obama, Clinton, or Mccain are perfect candidates. But you better believe I’ll take Hillary, Obama, Gore, Kerry, Dean, general clarke, etc. anyday over Republican Mccain. Take a good look at yourself and ask yourself the question “is there a racial component of why I won’t vote for Obama although we are both democrats”. You can’t lie to yourself. I can respect a self-proclaimed racist much more than you. You are a wolf in sheeps clothing which is much more dangerous than a wolf that you know is a wolf. The funny thing is, you thought your weren’t racist before this democratic primary started, now the true colors come out.

“political tracker -

It has nothing to do with obama being a black man it’s because he is eminently unqualified for this position just like ‘W’ was before him. He is an extremely niaive arrogant and condescending individual who belives that he knows better than all american citizens.

I ask you? If he feels pressure when askeed more than 8 (yes 8) questions before the TX and OH primaries and subsequently runs away from the press corps and then feels almost annoyed and aggrieved when he is asked the type of questions that Hillary gets thrown at her all the time and she always answers concisely and with a smile.

Another point: Do you honestly think that his aggresive wife is helping the democratic party when asked on national television if she would vote for Hillary if she was the nominee by saying that she doesn’t think that she would vote for Hillary.

C’mon give me a break.

America wake up and smell the coffee, this is going to be a very dangerous and destructive time for the US if he is elected. You could equate it to a trainee doctor thinking that he can perform major surgery (like neurosurgeon) without the relevant qualifications and experience.

They all surround themselves by other people that all give input before the final decision is made. I have never met a Harvard grad who didn’t think they were smarter than other people. Hillary has been practicing that smile for 50 yrs (Not to knock on Hill, just the truth. If she were winning the dem nom., I would be backing her just as well). GW was not unqualified, he did run the state of Texas as Governor. People only say W is unqualified because how terrible a president he is. You talk as if you know barack personally. You don’t know Hillary, barack, or mccain. About his wife. I haven’t heard that before, but if she did say she wouldn’t support hillrod, I would definately disagree with her on that one. If you want to bring in the spouses, have mccains wife disclose her w2’s.

Hubert Humphrey, George McGovern, Walter Mondale, Michael Dukakis, Al Gore (hanging chad), John Kerry, and Barack Obama. Notice the pattern? All losers! What is really funny, is that they sometimes vote in an attempt to reanimate John F. Seems to me the Democratic party has a flaw in its nomminating process.

Without using religious initiatives like pro-life, anti-gay, how else would big time oil execs get people who make 15-20 thousand a year or less. These people don’t vote for their economic interests, they narrow the presidency down to 2-3 issues and they are always the same issues. Now they want to count it. I always vote except for this year when they said it wouldnt’ count. don’t try and change it now. I really didn’t care who won anyway, Obama or Clinton. I would support either. To choose the opposite will continue the hypocratic republican rule.

Political tracker, in this post you rant about people voting on one or two issues. While issues like being Pro-Life may seem small to you, to other people the idea of endorsing a party that not only supports abortion, but wants absolutely no restrictions or notifications is so abhorrent to them, to vote for that party would go against the very core of their being. As far as your point regarding religion, see the point I made above. You see, to people actually believe strongly in the Bible,
there are moral absolutes, and these ideals goes against everything the Democrat Party stands for.

Catherine apology accepted. The difference is that JFK was a 2 term senator was a Member of the U.S. House of Representatives for 6 years before that he voted for the final passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1957 and he worked across party lines he was eminently qualified to be president.

Barack Obama is a first term senator who was only in the senate for 1 year before deciding to run for president so the next two years of being a senator has been taken up campaigning to be president - why has he not completed the job he was originally elected to? He has no record of legislative accomplisheents he is well known not to work across party lines he is the most left wing of all the senators in the senate and when he finds a vote to be politcally harmfull to him he has no gumption he votes present everytime, he is an extremely weak man who has a genius by the name of David Axelrod running his campaign now Axelrod is more qualified than Obama to president.

Obama is no JFK or RFK

Comment by Ali from NJ

Last night at 9:00 on Fox News, Hannity and Colmes, Hannity talked about Obama’s new pastor at Trinity United Church of Christ. I do not have the transcript in front of me, but it is something to investigate as soon as possible.

They discussed many issues relating to Senator Obama’s Church, Reverend Moss and Black Liberation Theology. According to one of Hannity’s guest, Obama used the word “social gospel” in one of his speeches. Hannity’s guest suggested that that term was a cue to his believers: A type of nod to his beliefs and to the believers of Black Liberation Theology. The guest compared “black liberation theology” and the “social gospel” to Marxism.

Hannity also talked about Obama’s new pastor, Otis Moss that Senator Obama is presently supporting. Reverend Moss, the “hip hop” pastor had spoken much like Reverend Wright but many of his statements were worse: “ F***. America” plus other inflammatory statements. Hannity asked his guest if the media should be aware of Otis Moss. The guest was vague, but did mention that Reverend Moss had great credentials.

Lastly, Hannity also discussed Michelle Obama and her angry speeches. They addressed Michelle Obama’s remarks and addressed her as “America’s Unhappiest Millionaire.” They sited different comments that were very unbecoming and negative about our country.

Please investigate this as soon as possible. No doubt this will eventually hit the main stream media. I would think that this is an appropriate time as I believe that Obama plans on announcing his presidency sometime within the next few weeks.

The youth of America need to “SEE” videos. Talking about these issues is not registering to the youth whatsoever. Special news segments to demonstrate Marxism, Black Power, Reverend Otis, Louis Farrakhan and Black Liberation Theology.

Show tapes of the new Reverend speaking at his sermons. He is very similar to Reverend Wright, if not worse.

These issues should be brought to the attention through all avenues of the media for the sake of all Americans, especially the youth. All candidates need be thoroughly investigated. Denouncing and rejecting is not enough. If Obama does not like this: too bad for Obama. He is running for the President of the United States.

Millions of people do not want him to enter this race regardless of what the mass media is ignoring. He’s embarrassing to millions and is surely unelectable. If Americans knew then what they knew now and Florida and Michigan were in this race, Obama would not even be in the race.

Senator Clinton has spoken the truth about Obama for months. For the media to spin everything she speaks about as a tactic to attack Obama is crazy.

All of her statements about the following issues are true:
1.) Senator Clinton states that she is the only candidate offering Universal Health Care
Obama says a lie: My plan of Universal Health Care is like Senator Clinton

2.) Senator Clinton states that she is getting the voters that are the base of the Democratic Party: White, Hispanics, Catholics, Older Americans and Women. Obama is getting Black Americans and some elitist.
Obama states that he is winning these people over.

3.) Senator Clinton states that Senator Obama is “out of touch”. Obama doesn’t even understand that he is “out of touch’. That’s worse.

4.) Senator Clinton States: We should have a gas holiday as a seed to start the process of investigating the big oil companies and to give Americans immediate relief.
Obama says “no” to a gas tax holiday, but has no other options for the “here and now” to help the poor.

The media uses the results of NC as a true showing that Obama can win over everyone after he has had challenges with Reverend Wright. However, according to Bill Schneider from CNN’s exit polls, there were masses of preregistered and absentee voters (possible 80 percent) that voted 16 days before the Reverend Wright press conference occurred.

Senator Obama is very deceiving. He is vague with answers about policies, his faith and his family. For the sake of our country and most importantly for the sake of Democrats these issues should be addressed as soon as possible.

Most importantly, this message is not to smear any candidate. This is a Presidential election and all candidates need to be transparent. It would be so wrong if the media did not bring these matters to the forefront. It is the media’s obligation to report the news and not show bias supporting one candidate over the other.

CNN and its quote “The Best Political Team” on television should be asked that they eliminate their segment “The Carfferty Files”. This segment of the Situation Room on CNN is a daily relentless bashing of all of the Clinton family. This man deliberately comments and reads a vicious question relating to any one of the Clinton Family. He then adds his cherry picked messages from blogs to further demonstrate his hatred for the Clinton family. It is of poor taste and very destructive to Senator Clinton’s campaign.

Please investigate and address theses issues as soon as possible.

Then I owe you an apology Concerned Independent, but then you have to ask yourself why was Affirmative Action enacted? And NO, I do not think Obama should be given anything, but if JFK could and did when the presidency then if Obama does the same, people should calm down!
__________________________________________________________________________________

I see the marketing department of the Obama campaign has done a great job, they’ve linked him to JFK. Age and party affiliations seems to be the only link. (In fact, if JFK were alive today with the same beliefs he had in the early 60s, he’d be a Republican) Besides the obvious differences in EXPERIENCE for the job, one COULD link them as authors. Obama has written a few books, mostly self-promotion types where he seems to have a chip on his shoulder. Kennedy wrote too, his book was “Profiles in Courage”…it was about great and historic people in American History.
After looking at the vast differences in ideals and attitudes about America, only the small of mind could ever link the two.

Hey Cathrine….There is a big difference between Obama and JFK……
JFK was not gay
JFK did not smoke crack
JFK did not have racists friends
JFK did not have terroristic friends
JFK did not associate with people who bomb buildings in america
JFK did not say things like “TYPICAL WHITE PEOPLE”,http://larrysinclair0926.wordpress.com/2008/05/11/barack-obama-is-a-closet-homosexual-listen-to-the-rev-james-david-manning/#comment-9744

to Ali from NJ. I didn’t know that michelle obama was running for president. now that i know she is running for pres., i will not vote for her. I watched the same show last night. your ***k America comment is taken out of context. It’s funny to me when people get so wound up over statements that appear to be anti-american. America has a deep flaw within itself and that is the truth. We love the motto and crede of our country, but do we love the leaders that have run this country. America was built on the blood and sweat of racism. It would be unrealistic to believe that the way this country was created, it would have no backlash later on. It’s like loving your family member, but you know sometimes they do things that are not right. i take it you are a clinton supporter. the clintons said it themselves, if you can’t take the heat, get out of the kitchen. politics is a dirty game. the media can turn on you just as quick as they can support. you need to understand the media is trying to make money and increase their ratings. We as americans need to make informed decisions ourselves. Listen to all angles of the media and then roll your dice.

For anyone who wants to know, Obama will be in WV tomorrow, this has been confirmed via his campaign site!

I hope Hillary runs as an independent! Obama thanked the media in advance of this primary , he said I will let you know if I have anything to say, So this election has been rigged from DAY ONE, Not that that surprises us, but the Obama clan refuses to read or listen to anything, they really think he has what it takes, very sad. not to mention, I wont vote for anyone who

has advisors who are anti-American
advisors who are in bed with hamas
who hate Isrial
Obama thinks we have 57 states
the great lakes are in Oregon
Canada has a president.

He and his wife are VERY ANTI-AMERICAN,

_______
Good post Concerned Independent,

But you underestimate someone who has the ability to inspire and who has worked from the bottom up and starting from the bottom working his way up. This appeals to more people than someone like JFK, who fortunately had family connections and the money = clout positioning.

It’s funny how we’re getting all of these conspiracy theories regarding obama. He’s gay, he’s a muslim, he’s a terrorist, he’s the anti-christ. These are the same people who condemn rev. wright for his conspiracy theories. So many two-faced people. It’s a good thing they are in the minority. If you gonna say he’s gay, at least say bisexual. How in the heck do you think he got them kids. Some people can really be idiots. Patty from NJ

Concerned Independent,

Just an FYI, If Obama was not running, I would probably vote Ralph Nader or no one! :) Try not to laugh. The last time I voted was in 1992, and that was for Ross Perot!

If gas is $4.00 a gallon, If the Iraq war is still going bad, if we are in a recession, If President Bush’s approval rating is at 30%,let’s look at the rising National debt, the shrinking of the dollar, Who really cares if McCain is too old, lost his bearings, whether he voted for Bush or not, whether he can’t tell sunni from Shia, Whether or not Reverend Wright or Ayers will hurt Obama, or that Hamas wants Obama to win, or if Obama wears a lapel pin (Neither Clinton nor McCain wear one) or whether he misspoke of 57 states, whether we care if Clinton came under fire in Bosnia. People are worried about the real issues: Gas Prices, The War, The economy. The people will want CHANGE!!!!

Florida and Michigan broke the rules and were punished. Both the Democrat AND Republican National Committes punished them. The only reason its not an issue on the Republican side is that there is no controversy over there about who the nominee is or will be.

Case closed. In America, if you break the rules, you’re punished.

Whatever they get is more than they deserve. In both the Republican and Democratic Conventions.

And to say, McCain would do this. Or McCain would have done that. If in Obama’s position, is just ignorant.

There is absolutely no way anyone could know that.
