McCain is very sturdy for his age and seems to be in good health now. He does seem to have good genes and it is well known that longevity does run in families–mine is one fortunately. His mom certainly seems to have all her faculties at 96.

Nevertheless, at his age and with all his body endured in Nam as well as his couple of bouts with cancer do make the choice of a Vice President of great concern.

There are a number of reasons we should hope he puts aside his known propensity to hold a grudge and chooses Mitt Romney for his running mate. Mitt is young and robust with no health issues. He was the “chosen” at CPAC for the conservative choice for president so could perhaps bring that wing of the party back under the tent so they don’t just sit this one out. Most of all, as the economy tanks, he is very savy about economic issues and can bring his wealth of knowledge about how macro economics really work to bear in order to bring the country out of the dangerous slump we are in.

Vote McCain/Romney and there will be no more worry about McCain’s age because, in case of the worst happening, the country will be in good hands–in the hands of the person who came in second as the people’s choice! That would be the wise and democratic thing for McCain to do.

One cannot make a blanket judgement about age. Some people are old young. Yes, the presidency has aged many men quickly but, not all. Ronald Reagen was an exception. Of course, he was wise and worked smarter than the younger, sometimes, egomaniac types who had to be hands on and IN CHARGE 24-7. He chose well as to advisors and support people. He rested when he needed and did not feel that he was God and had to be on all the time. And, things went worked.
