Hillary’s Way Forward

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind - After a stinging defeat in North Carolina and a close win in Indiana, Hillary Clinton’s path to the nomination has become that much harder tonight. North Carolina represented the last real chance for Clinton to shock the political world with an upset win, or what she herself called a “game changer.” What’s more, both states had large chunks of pledged delegates she needed to start closing the gap; her ability to make up ground in that metric is now severely diminished.

Aides insist that in even their rosiest scenarios, they would still lose North Carolina by 5. But with polls tightening over the last week, the endorsement of popular governor Mike Easley, and a heavy travel schedule in the state, expectations were building for a close contest — and some in the campaign even believed a win was possible.

And in Indiana, while the campaign says they came from behind and overcame the home field advantage Obama enjoyed in his home state’s next door neighbor. But polls over the last two weeks suggested she’d have a bit more breathing room here, instead of sweating out the result well into the night.

So how does the Clinton campaign make the best out of what looks to be a bad situation? Campaign officials say it comes down to demographics. While African Americans, young voters, and the more affluent went for Obama in higher numbers than usual, they say the blue-collar swing voters Democrats need in a general election went even more strongly to her. Those voters, they argue, are far less likely to choose Senator Obama in a match-up with John McCain than the coalition of voters Obama’s amassed.

That’s the case the campaign will be making to superdelegates in the coming weeks. As Major Garrett reports, Team Hillary is laying the foundation for a costly and public post-primary campaign to woo undecided party leaders, to include rallies, direct mail and paid advertisements directed squarely at the superdelegates upon whom their hopes now rest.

They’ll also revive their push to get the delegations from Michigan and Florida seated in full at the Democratic National Convention, a move that would close the pledged delegate gap significantly.

More immediately, Senator Clinton will soldier on. She has a fundraiser in Washington with her mother and daughter on Wednesday, and takes the campaign to three upcoming states on Thursday — stopping in West Virginia, South Dakota, and Oregon.

Hilliary did not win Indiana! Obama did!! The results are not in, but I know he won. HOW!? Because that was the strategy — to make Clinton look foolish by claiming victory and referrring to Indiana as the “tiebreaker”.

The last county was just waiting to see how many votes they needed to give him the win. It was even predicted this county find a way to make it possible. Mr Obama has never won any election yet in his career that was legitament. This is proving that his pattern just keeps going. What a shame for the democratic party to have such a discusting person even in the race for our nominee.

Democrats have lost 7 of the last 10 presidential elections, with a strong possibility of being 8 of 11 after 2008 general election. All with Democratic nomminees backed by educated affluent liberals, college students, and African Americans. Seems to me the Democratic party has a flaw in its nomminating process.

US colleges and universities are full of left wing extremist Proffessors like William Ayers. So educated people tend to support candidates like: Jimmy Carter (won because of backlash from watergate) , Hubert Humphrey, George McGovern, Walter Mondale, Michael Dukakis, Al Gore, John Kerry, and Barack Obama. Notice the pattern? All losers! What is really funny, is that they sometimes vote in an attempt to reanimate John F. Kennedy… Democrats have lost 7 of the last 10 presidential election, with nomminees backed by educated affluent liberals, college students, and African Americans. The record speaks for itself!

Hillary, please keep on! You represent what is strong in America. We need your guidance and exertise. Obama is weak and more of a liability to us in the general election. History will repeat itself and we will lose the general election if you are not on the ticket.

My vote is for Hillary. I am so disgusted by this whole election process, the media in its coverage declaring a winner before any votes are in, a candidate running with so many questionable ties, Florida and Michigan voters not allowed to have their votes counted, I am sick of it. The Democratic Party deserves to lose the election. If Hillary does not get the nomination, and unless she runs as an Independent, I am voting Republican and may just stay that way.

Oh - don’t forget all you Hillary voters, send her your hard earned money, even though you know she can’t win. She only wants your money so she can pay off her campaign debts because she is broke. Yeah, you heard me - BROKE.
So keep on being dumb and foolish and send her your money. Better still, why don’t you all send her the $30. she will save you over 3 months at the pumps. Like that is going to happen, and you all fell for it. What a joke

I would Like to congrat Obama, and Hillary On thier Win tonight…

Why is that the Majority of the votes are Black, voting for Obama, I’ve my answer, the reason why is Most Black people want a black man in the White House, which is perfectly Fine, The only issues I’ve Is that majority of the vote is based on color, creeed, and Race Not based on experince, We should be voting based on How much experince they have, What can they do for Our country, Not based On thier other issues, I’m the type that takes the whole pictures and disect it, I’m whole heartly disappointed with Obama, Not puttin his hand on his Heart, Or a us Flag lapel on his Suit, Or his remarks to Don Imus, about the Girls Basketball, I belive the man has intergerity, Honesty, and For the Most part HUMAN. I like to see Obama get more experince under his belt, in foreign and domestic affair, A better understanding what this country needs, he talks about change but what are those change I still have not heard what they are.

Again Congrats to Obama and Hillary on thier Win

I think both candidates did what they needed to do. Mr. Genius, I do not agree Obama just gets Black Votes. He gets the younger voters, he gets more educated voters, one poll even showed he got some of Hillary’s white Women voters.
Hillary got her Older (65) Women votes, ( they say their votes is how she won Indiana ), and her % of white women, her blue collar votes, etc.
I could say Hillary gets all the women votes because she is woman, which is valid too.

To all.. These 2 are so close in their ideas, that it really comes down to how people perceive each candidate.

From my perspective, I really believe that most Americans want a new person in the White House.

There is all this talk why Obama cannot close the deal, but my take is why has can’t Clinton close the deal??
1. She has the experience…
2. She Has Bill Clinton whom america loved running all over stumping for her
3. She has Chelsa who should be young voter territory running all over stumping for her
Basically a 3 to 1 challange for Obama as he cannot be everywhere at the time and yet she is still behind.

Obama had the Wright deal for 2 weeks prior to tonight, and spent countless hours talking about it, down in the polls, and yet he still pulled out a great ( unexpected evening ).

I think alot of people are starting to see that Obama is not Elitist,( his background proves it ) nor the bogeyman the media plays him to be, and are waking up to the fact that the old politics is at work ( Gas Tax holiday?).
Americans know when they are being played by old politics, and I think it is starting to show.

I just hope the dems close this deal soon so we can start our process to win the White House.
McCain is getting no press for all the serious gaffs, ( Suni/Shi? does he know the diff? ), spilling he knew we went to Iraq for Oil, Oops, I don’t know anything about the economy.. on and on.
These areas of mispeak?, or general ignorance are alot more alarming than Wright, Lapel pins, even Hillaries Bosnia and Ireland lies.
If he gets elected because the dems let our race go on much longer and the public says to heck with us, this country is in for far worse than the Bush admin..

Go Obama ( whom, for disclosure, I do support now ) or Hill ( whom I would support if she were the Nom.. Lets just get this over with.. NOW.. We are losing time..

Bruce, first, I am going to thank you for the compliment on your thoughts on my age.. I am actually a 48 YO White woman from the SF Bay Area. Business and Analyst Professional. I Blog on my off hours.

I happen to be Affluent, but will not label myself any other way, liberal or otherwise.

To be honest to you, and all others, I do not think any of the 3 Candidates in this race have the individual ability to run this nation. Being in the Financial and Economic arena, our country is in so much trouble right now I believe our darkest days are yet to be seen by the majority of Americans.

My preference for a candidate would have been an individual that has run a successful worldwide business, ( and believe me I have met many who could turn this country around), but that is not an option ( at least now ).

So, when I look at the landscape of who we have, I believe Obama has the open mind to surround himself with the smartest guys in the room to get our country back on track. From my perspective, the Clintons ( and I say it that way as it is not just Hillary running, it is her husband as well ) are not open minded to new members to their team. They want control, period, and that is dangerous.

As far as McCain, he should not be running this country unless he has secured the best minds in the world to do all the work for him. He appears by all accounts to be worse than Bush only by the fact I really believe he is too old. I see it in his statements, mis-statements, confusion, etc. This is not bashing an older person, it is a true visual fact. BUT, a shinning light for McCain is his wife Cindy. I did some research and she has been the Business piece of her dynasty, has done incredible worldwide charity work, and from all accounts, seems like a better candidate than her husband.

On we go..

Comment by Fairy

Bruce, I agree with you. Both Obama and Hillary will tax and spend. I believe Obama is worse for Tax ( Cap gains , etc ) than Clinton at this point. I know that will hurt me, and others in my group.
But, if the tax is used wisely to bring the rest of the country up, then that is what we need to do as a nation to keep us competitive globally.

I cannot predict how Obama or Clinton would use these extra tax $$, but my gut feeling is the fact the Obama had to scrap his way to where he is, and coming from that, he will distrubute the gains from the rich in a fair way to help the many that are hurting in a nation.

Nothing is a given. As with all aspects of our lives, you play the cards you are dealt and each has to trust their instincts at any given point in time.

Who knows, maybe another candidate may emerge that will give us pause..

Hillary’s victory speech seemed like a farewell speech to me. When this country was ran by the Indians there was no debt, no global warming, pollution or taxes and no problems from immigrants (until those pesky Pilgrims). This country has been ran by white folks for 230 years and look where we are now. In debt up to our grandkids, involved in two wars, distrusted by our friends around the world, global warming, screwed up foreign and domestic policy. Perhaps it is time to turn the power over to someone like Obama.

Stealing an election includes not counting the votes of 3 million people.

If dems want the WH, they’d better get a nominee that can win it. Last night they said they’d rather wait another 4 years.

Dave,

If your “idyllic” idea of America is living with no electricity, no indoor plumbing, no automobiles, no aircraft, in teepees wearing loin cloths then the Democrats ARE for you. Much like the Native Americans you can live simply like that for thousands of years, and after a tax & spend, envioro-nut group running the White House AND Congress, thats about the only lifestyle left for us anyhow.

See….this is how the uneducated masses will destroy this country. You fail to realize that Obama and Hillary are pretty identical in their party stances (with the exception of that gas tax holiday). If you were a true Democrat you would vote for whoever gains the nomination. I think you need to get educated at the fact that McCain will be appointing Right Wing Extremist Judges during his term. Stripping away your personal freedoms. Kiss Roe v. Wade bye bye, say hello to unprecedented surveillance measures to keep you safe from “terror”.

Well, it looks like my projection early yesterday was even better than I imagined. I was projecting that the Black “racist” vote would support the Barak Husssein Obama, Rev. Wright Team at 92% in NC … voting shows they voted at 92%. Once again the Black “racist” vote has supported Barak Husssein Obama at a typical +90% … about the same as in all previous elections. It will be interesting to see if the remainder of the voters finally begin to realize that Hillary Clinton is by far a more capable candidate than Obama.

One can only wonder how the followers of Rev. Wright’s Black Liberation Theology voted yesterday … since they all hate America, it is difficult understanding how they rationalize participating in an American concept called voting.

Comment by Jeff X

So let me get this straight, according to the “drive by” liberal media, Obama is the better of the two candidates because he’s popular with a minority which consists 13% of the American public, young people without maturity, social extremist liberals that live in a fairy tale world, and academia whose entire life consists of never having to actually DO anything, only talk about their “ideals” in class.

Comment by Fred

Ok let me get this straight, the black vote, which is consistently 85% (or higher) democratic in a general election is somehow “racist” because they are voting slightly higher than that for the black candidate. I think black voters are intellegent, hell they voted overwelmingly against GWB, in 2000 and 2004. I find it ironic that most of the white voters that support Obama are highly educated or younger voters. These voters are not filled with the resentment toward black people that the so called “working class voters” that support Hillary are. Blacks have been the most loyal constituency of the democratic party and have always supported a white candidate. The black vote has always been taken for granted and in many cases has been looked upon as irrelevant. White people overwelmingly supported Hillary in the blue collar states even after her husband shipped their jobs overseas. Oh, I forgot she was against NAFTA (LOL). One of her campaign advisors was lobbying to ship more of your jobs Columbia in cohoots with Bill Clinton and yet you still support her unconditionally. Who are the real racist? Vote for McCain in protest. Obama can put a moderate like Tim Kane or Chuck Hagel on the ticket and get crossover votes to offset you uneducated, I mean “blue collar” voters.

Bonnie…two points…First, the FED has more to do with the economy than any President. While a Presidents policies CAN effect the economy, the things like mortgage “bailouts” and “pork” in the budget forces us to finance our debt with foreign capital. Hence the drop in the dollar. The FED is more worried about inflation than a falling dollar right now.

Second, the price of oil has more to do with demand on a world-wide scale. The idiotic idea of a “windfall profits tax” will only divert more barrels of oil to company divisions where there isn’t as high a taxing structure. After all, why sell ioil in a country where your profit will be lowered by tax when you can sell it to anyone. It’s a SELLERS market.

After reading some of the comments I am ashamed that it has gotten to this point. I am happy that Barack Obama won he is the better candidate. I use to be a Hillary supporter but she is not really for the people, she makes promises that she can’t keep and then blames others when she doesn’t fulfill those promises like in New York with the jobs. They are going to seat the Michigan and Florida votes but in a way that is fair to both candidates. After all they both agreed on not seating them in the first place. Even so that is not going to help Hillary she is done and should leave gracefully. She fought a good fight but it is OVER. She can’t win even if she keeps moving the goal post, even if they seat Florida and Michigan she is done what don’t you understand. The super delegates are going to get behind Obama.

YOU NEED TO BE ASKING YOUR OWNSELF WHY YOUR WILLING TO WORK YOUR HEART OUT TO SUPPORT A MAN , TOOOOOOO OLD TO BE RUNNING IN THE FIRST PLACE . A MAN WHO ONLY CARES ABOUT HIS RICH POWERFUL FRIENDS ( AND I’M SURE YOUR NOT ONE OF THEM) AND A MAN WHO HAS NO IDEA WHO IS WHO WHEN IT COMES TO FOREIGN POLICY PROBLEMS . YOU SOUND LIKE YO GIRL HILLARY , YOU JUST WANT TO VOTE FOR SOMEONE WHO WILL OBLITERATE OTHER COUNTRIES JUST BECAUSE ? PITIFUL!

this is getting really rediculous guys, is hillary really that egotistical that she cant tell when she has lost, i think she really thinks she is still winning?? stop crying over florida and michigan hill, they dont and wont count!! not to mention it is pretty easy to win those states when your the only democrat dumb enough to put there name on the ballot when the democratic party told you not too!! give up already!!

why did i vote for obama you want to know hillbilly?? well the answer is quite simple because he is running against hillary and i would vote for the real osama as our president before i would vote for her!

MY DEAR ETTA BELIEVE ME HILLARY WOULD MAKE THE BETTER PRESIDENT AND SHE WOULD HAVE WON JOHN MCCAIN IN THE FALL BUT WHEN PEOPLE START KNOWING THIS STRANGER OAMA IT WILL BE TOO LATE FOR HER AND WITH AGE COMES WISDOM HE MAY NOT BE ABLE TO FLASH DANCE BUT MCCAIN FOUGHT HIS HEART OUT FOR THIS COUNTRY AND A TRUE AMERICAN. THIS STRANGER OBAMA IS FULL OF HIMSELF HE DOES NOT KNOW WHT IT IS LIKE TO BE AN AMERICAN BLACK ONLY WHAT HE HAS HEARD. HE NEVER FOUGHT FOR CICIL RIGHTS HE NEVER WALKED THE WALK HE IS FULL OF HOT AIR AND FLUFF. AND I WILL VOTE FOR A TRUE AMERICAN AND OR SOMEONE WHOHAS WALKED THE WALK HIS SPEECH LAST NIGHT WASW WRITTEN FOR HIM I WANT SOMEONE WHO WILL FIGHT FOR MY RIGHTS. NOT THE TERRORIST. AND I WONT SLEEP GOOD AT IGHT KNOWING THAT THEY ARE OUT THERE.

Anything can happen to the frontrunner, they can get off course, get a crap, or fall hard. And in those few seconds that it takes for that front runner to get back on his feet and gather themselve, the person who was behind went and sat on the bench, they still could have a chance to win the race if only they had not given up and sat on the sidelines.
