Militants May Suspend Attacks after Obama’s Plea

The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) has said it is considering a temporary cessation of hostilities in the oil-producing region based on an appeal by United States presidential hopeful, Senator Barack Obama.
MEND also said in an e-mail that its ceasefire was to enable the federal government to have a rethink over the way it has handled the matter concerning its leader, Mr. Henry Okah.
The spate of attacks in the last two weeks has led to more volatility in the crude oil market with substantial production cuts in Nigeria

Obama is for the rich like him. He will not help the middle class working Americans, just as he is against giving them a break at the gas pumps. We have people that have to drive 50 miles one way to work trying to make a living and Obama does not care. Thats 100 miles a day and so don’t try and tell this tarheel that 20 cents off a gallon of gas would not help. Say that again, I must not of heard it!

On the gas tax holiday -

Clinton is proposing a tax gas holiday for this summer. Since she is not in office yet, she can’t make that happen. So voters are going to vote for her promise to give them a tax break that they aren’t going to get. Analyists this morning said the same thing - it won’t happen this summer.

The final SUSA Indiana poll has Hillary Clinton winning by 12, 54-42.

Key findings: Clinton wins whites 58-39 (87% of the vote, Obama wins African Americans 77-21 (10% of the vote).

I do not believe the African American finding. Doing my SUSA adjustments (A-As 90-10 for Obama, undecided whites 2-1 for Clinton), I get the following result: Clinton 54-46.

Obama Ad Misrepresents Krugman Quote To Attack Hillary

Sen. Obama has a new ad which claims that “experts” believe Hillary’s plan for a gas tax holiday would “boost oil industry profits.” Their citation is an April 28 column by Paul Krugman, which discusses Sen. McCain’s plan, not Hillary’s plan:

The impression that Mr. McCain’s tax talk is all about pandering is reinforced by his proposal for a summer gas tax holiday — a measure that would, in fact, do little to help consumers, although it would boost oil industry profits.
Hillary’s plan differs from Sen. McCain’s in that it is financed with a windfall profits tax on oil companies. Krugman, who does not support Hillary’s plan, acknowledges that her plan will not increase profits for the oil industry.

Krugman adds: “Just to be clear: I don’t regard this as a major issue. It’s a one-time thing, not a matter of principle…Health care reform, on the other hand, could happen, and is very much a long-term issue — so poisoning the well by in effect running against universality, as Obama has, is a much more serious breach.”

Today on Meet the Press, Sen. Obama claimed Hillary was using the same windfall profits tax to pay for two proposals:

Now, Senator Clinton says that she’s going to use the windfall profits tax to fill it. First of all, she’s already said she’s going to use that for something else, as I have, and that is to invest in clean energy and, and– other important measures. So, that money she’s already spending twice.
This is false and misleading.

To pay for the gas tax holiday, Hillary is calling for a windfall tax on the oil companies’ 2008 profits. It’s an immediate proposal. Hillary has never proposed a tax on 2008 profits previously.

Hillary would continue the windfall tax on 2009 profits and beyond, and that revenue would go to her strategic energy fund and for renewable energy.

This morning’s Wall Street Journal revealed that Sen. Obama unequivocally supports lifting the teamsters federal consent decree:

Sen. Barack Obama won the endorsement of the Teamsters earlier this year after privately telling the union he supported ending the strict federal oversight imposed to root out corruption, according to officials from the union and the Obama campaign.

…Obama spokesman Tommy Vietor confirmed the candidate’s position in a statement to The Wall Street Journal, saying that Sen. Obama believes that the board “has run its course,” because “organized crime influence in the union has drastically declined.” Mr. Vietor said Sen. Obama took that position last year.
This morning on Good Morning America, Sen. Obama contradicted his campaign and said he had not made a commitment.

Today, the Politico published audio of Hillary speaking to the Teamsters. Hillary says that she’d be open to “looking at” the status of the consent decree but made no commitments.

This is consistent with what the Hillary campaign and the Teamsters said publicly before this audio was released. Phil Singer told the Wall Street Journal: “Sen. Clinton is making no promises about lifting the consent decree.” The Teamsters described Hillary’s position as “wishy-washy.”

Indiana and North Carolina it’s your turn put a stop to this young man. We are counting on you. The case for Clinton can be summed up by the following two points: 1) She is the best and most electable candidate of all three remaining. 2) Obama’s “clear” lead in the nominating process is more perceived than real. Regarding point #1: She is at the right point in her life to be pursuing this position (not to early or too late) and she is the only one who can present a credible national security case against John McCain. Regarding point #2: At least three caucuses had indisputably undemocratic results (Texas, Washington, Nevada). This proves that the will of the few overruled the will of the many. Superdelegates and Clinton have strong moral ground to stand on and would not be overturning the will of the people, which is a data-free meme forced upon us by an overwhelmingly Pro-Obama media.

Hillary is a fighter, a winner and a great American. Hillary is incredibly intelligent and prepared. She is going to fight until her last breath for universal health care, veteran’s rights, children, teachers, the middle class, the elderly, equal pay for equal work, the environment and our country. Hillary is going to get this country on the right track again, get us out of Iraq, win the war in Afghanistan and rebuild the military. She is going to restore US standing and leadership in the world. She is going to clean up the justice department, restore the balance of power in our government and appoint justices to the Supreme Court who believe in fairness and justice for every American. Hillary is an inspiration to all Americans. It is unbelievable that she can keep fighting despite the efforts by many inside the Democratic Party to destroy her and the legacy of the Clinton presidency. She is doing it because she loves this country. It is her time. The Democratic Party and America needs her leadership now, more than ever.

Superdelegates should pick Hillary not only because she is the only one who can beat McCain but because it would reaffirm to Democrats nationally that our party respects, and genuinely will work for, the wide base of blue-collar, lunch-bucket, middle-class voters — Democratic, Republican and Independent — who need a President who will look out for their interests and who will recalibrate our national interests abroad.

The superdelegates should support Hillary because she is the one candidate who can bring people of all persuasions and socio-economic levels together. She is the consummate uniter this country needs. She is not only intelligent but very savvy in the way of politics and in dealing with those who disagree with her. As evidenced by her campaign, she is a strong fighter in what she believes in Yet, she is genuine and down-to-earth. Even as President, I could picture her having dinner at my house and seeing her be completely at ease (even as my dog sits and begs at her side)! During this primary, one democratic candidate has gotten stronger, one weaker. Hillary Clinton has become the stronger, better candidate. Hillary Clinton is a fighter and will not give up. We all make mistakes, but we succeed by getting back up, persevering and getting stronger. I am from a small town Missouri. Rural, small town voters in Missouri broke for Hillary, 2-1, on Super Tuesday. These are the voters, who in both national and statewide elections, democrats must have to win in my state. (This was before the Obama putdown of small town Midwestern people and before the theology of his church was vetted.) Hillary Clinton can win Missouri. Barack Obama cannot. If I had a chance to talk to any superdelegate, I would say, Please, chose Hillary, so the democrats will have a competitor and a chance to win my state in November. Hillary Clinton has built a very powerful coalition of swing voters. For example, security moms helped swing the 2004 election for Bush. Working class whites, catholics, women and latinos are every bit as important to the democratic party as African Americans. Let’s pick the candidate with the best chance to win and try to work together as best we can.

One more thing, that I forgot to comment on about Hillary… its obvious that her and Bill are a team…. so lets go back to when Bill was president. How DOES the congregation of Trinity UCC feel about this country? When I left service yesterday; I didn’t see you conducting interviews and I went to two services. Are you writing what you THINK you know or are you writing fact? While I’m at it; why do you THINK so many of us go there? Better yet; we are on the web. Have you EVER seen an entire service? Obama has no substance (plans). All he can do is criticize all the other candidates’ plan of action and ideas. He also flip flops on certain issues. What a waste. But hopefully you all will elect him as Democrat nominee in primaries so that McCain will win in November!

However, no one here in this blog bother to denounce his statements because he is not running for office.

Just like me, most people really don’t care if the congregation of your church applauded to Rev Wright hate and racism rants.

It became big news when obama, who is part of that congregation, wants to run for president. If he don’t agree with Wright, he should step up and denounce it during the church service, or leave the church.

Pastor Wright has said for years that the things done and said to and about us don’t count. He has said that whites discount our feelings and dismiss our culture. (you do.) Many of you have jumped on the O’ReiNitty bandwagon and claim to be hurt. Yet; twice I’ve wondered why none of you have DENOUNCED the “gorilla faced” comment and it’s rather obvious conotations. I’m wondering why no one has spoken up on “WE(who is we) have to stop this young man.” and IT’S obvious conotations. Maybe Rev Wright really hit the nail on the head. I haven’t seen ONE post that condems the above statements……and I wasn’t looking for any. I just wanted to show this as what it is. The silence has said it all. THINK ABOUT IT!!!
