Hillary’s ABC Interview In One Word: Awkward
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind — Hillary Clinton’s appearance at a Town Hall hosted by ABC “This Week” host George Stephanopoulos didn’t produce much in the way of news; confronted with the fact that economists seem to unanimously oppose her plan to suspend the gas tax this summer, Clinton said “I’m not going to put my lot in with economists” — and dismissed opponents of her idea as part of “elite opinion” that often works against middle class Americans
And she blamed President Bush for allowing a company producing critical national security technology in Indiana to move to China — even though her husband approved the sale to the Chinese in the 1990s — saying the Clinton agreement was premised on keeping the jobs in the United States.
But the interview was notable for another reason — the sheer awkwardness of the ABC setup and the relationship between Clinton and Stephanopoulos, a former White House press secretary under her husband.
While both interviewer and interviewee started the event sitting down, Clinton stood after the first question — saying she wanted to see the questioner. Stephanopoulos, however, remained seated — leading to a question in which she talked down to him for a full minute.
When Stephanopolous decided to stand, he was tethered to the chair by his microphone cable — which led him to stand with one leg bent back and the rear of his jacket sticking out six inches where the cable ran through. Clinton wasn’t about to sit down to accommodate her interrogator, and ABC never seemed to find a solution.
Adding to the disquieting nature of the interview was the fact that there was no microphone to capture crowd reaction. Quips from the candidate that may have drawn a laugh seemed to be greeted with silence — and indeed may have been — giving the impression that the crowd was decidedly cool towards her.
Finally, Clinton was able to deflect some of the tough questions by bringing up Stephanoploulos’s former role as campaign aid and chief spokesman for President Clinton. Asked about her stance on NAFTA, Clinton praised the Clinton economy. “You remember this, because George did work in that 1992 campaign. And George and I were actually against Nafta,” she said. “I’m talking about him in his previous life before he was an objective journalist.”

I went on vacation to Greer’s Lake fishing and a group of us northerners were talking to those who knew of Bill Clinton as he just put his hat in for President and they were happy for him as he and Hillary would leave Arkansas if he won. He did of course and history came true as the men and women at the camp fire rang true. The baggage he and she had in the state became a national scandal. But something else came out that marshmallow meeting as follows.
Question? Has anyone in the press checked Hillary’s past such as when she was a Lawyer, Governor’s first lady in Arkansas. When she became the Senator from New York how many ethnic assistants she has hired in total through the years. Having talked to a citizen from Arkansas he said she has a problem in that area and cut a lot of people who held duties in the Governors for a period of time before she got in the home, why I think you can guess. Bill didn’t like it but Hillary has the pants in the family, as Bill seems to be out of his at times and in trouble for it. But if this is true why hasn’t the WASHINGTON POST looked into this subject, as this would show a lack of character in her upbringing.
I haven’t hear a word since I wrote this but the democratic base should be made aware of this hidden fact…….
Seeing all these questions about the gas tax this week I am reminded about the story here in NJ/NY Metro area a couple of weeks ago where out of state residents traveled to NJ to get gas on the NJ TURNPIKE AND GARDEN STATE PARKWAY{TOLL ROADS} TRYING TO BEAT THE 5 AM DEADLINE before gas prices rose by roughly 20 cents the next day.I am not sure of the exact amount prices where going up but in NJ the rest areas on these two major toll roads are only allowed to change their prices once weekly which after a week of dramatic gas price increases it was being reported on the nightly news that drivers from the surrounding States of NY, PA, DE, and maybe even Conn. I think that this story is pretty good proof of how many Americans would feel about a gas tax holiday.Tell Hillary we are behind her!

Yet Hillary has decided that her legal background provides her with a far better knowledge of economic matters and as such she can simply disregard the opinions of those educated and experienced in the field because they do not agree with her.

On fighting AlQuaeda, it was OBAMA that said we should use dones or whatever means necessary to take out the heads of the those cowards hiding in the hills in Pakistan. He knows full well if that leadership remains in place Al Quaeda will continue to grow and grow…it was CLINTON that disagreed, she was and is wrong. As in our spying on them (don’t forget N Korea trying to sell them weapons on the side), beefing up security with Israel and making sure we have an appropriate response in place we also have to keep looking at our other enemies, China, Russia and yes even Pakistan who might be tempted to help Iran. By elevating the war talk, we may just push these silly, petty countries together and we cannot afford that right now. First the 18 cent tax is taken off… more gas is purchased, especially since people are going on vacation…which causes more demand and drives up the price even more than 18 cents…and then at the end of 3 months the “Gas Tax Holiday” is over, and the 18 cent is added back on. Then what?

I ALMOST felt bad for Hillary during the ABC town hall today, but when you have someone who says to the American people she doesn’t believe what economists have to say about the gas tax and was unable to quote a single economist who supported her ridiculous plan, I definitely wouldn’t trust her with fixing our economy. The silence of the crowd was almost deafening.
Sheer logic: If the GOVERNMENT taxes oil companies and cuts into their profit margin, of course they are going to pass it on to consumers. Cheaper gas will drive up the demand. Clinton said something about her plan would save $2billion for the trucking industry. I wasn’t aware the trucking industry had a collective pool that allowed truckers pay for each other’s fuel so truckers would save on fuel costs.
Just a stupid, stupid plan and blantant pandering.
Since it appears that the current democratic candidates have run campaigns that will not result in a clear winner, division of the party is inevitable. Wouldn’t it be better for both the party and, more importantly, the country if we started a conversation about who the convention might identify to run in place of these divisive figures who, even if one is elected will have more negatives than any other newly elected president since, well it seems only appropriate to tell the truth, George Bush had the Supreme Court elect him. I know that the Democratic Party has a states(wo)man who could actually unite the party and country in a way that neither Clinton nor Obama can. I know that someone out there has an idea to turn around the shameful practice of purchasing the office–how many millions of dollars can a campaign cost before we citizens understand we aren’t electing a candidate–the special interest groups have imposed whoever upon us. Isn’t there a single person within the Democratic Party that can take on the real issues facing America instead of “where do you go to church and what do you think of what your pastor said?” Why isn’t any candidate answering the issue of what the high school drop out rate will do to our economy for decades to come. Why isn’t anyone addressing how to look past this quarter’s profits to see how to ensure an economy that will feed our people, and the poor people of the world for years to come?

Did Stephanopoulos as Clinton Press Secretary de facto really know her position as the President’s wife? I think HRC is dragging George through the mud just to form some sort of credibility. What I deduce, George left after Bill’s first term because the Clinton’s did not treat him well. Furthermore, not that I like George very much right now due to his debacle in the last debate, it appears that the Clinton’s are stepping all over George once again. If that is true, it is a shame. And I state here in writing, George, stop assuming that HRC is going to change her spots, she will not. You need to change and that means, stop agreeing to interview HRC, interview Obama. You might find yourself in a more comfortable position.

and everyone else who is out of touch with the average worker. This average person is an educator with a master’s degree and I work full time and make less than $20,000 dollars a year. My very average husband is a doctor who makes about $50,000 a year. Be careful when you assume. You have no idea how the world has changed economically. And, to boot, I owe alone $94,000 in school loans. My health insurance that I pay through my job, I pay almost $500.00 a month for a family of four. The economy is hurting all of us. When the problems trickles down, the affects will certainly trickle up and out.
