Part of a Pattern? Clinton Says Obama Can’t Solve Short Term Problems

WAKE FOREST, NC — Hillary Clinton today cast Barack Obama’s opposition to suspending the federal gas tax for the summer as part of a larger inability to provide both short term and long-term solutions to the problems facing the country.

“Someone running for office, particularly running for the presidency, has to be able to deal with both the immediate, the urgent, the long-term and necessary,” she said. From the gas tax, to the mortgage crisis, to health care, Clinton argued that she’s the only candidate who’s shown that ability.

“My opponent is running ads and holding press conferences attacking my plan to try to give you some kind of break this summer,” she said. “There is no contradiction between trying to provide immediate relief and having a long term vision and a plan for what we must do to lessen our dependence on foreign oil and be moving toward more homegrown fuels.”

“So here’s what I propose: I want the oil companies to pay the federal gas tax this summer.”

Clinton introduced legislation cosponsored by NJ Senator and Clinton supporter Bob Menendez to enact that proposal on Friday. But the idea already run into stiff resistance from experts, economists, and even undecided superdelegates such as Colorado congressman Mark Udall – who released a statement saying “we can’t afford more Washington-style pandering while families keep getting squeezed.”

But, Clinton said, “this issue that we’re facing today over gas prices and the debate that my opponent and I are having over it is really part of a larger difference between us” – claiming that Obama’s disagreements with her plans to freeze housing foreclosures to provide universal health care paint a picture of a candidate who’s out of touch with the plight of working people.

“I point out these differences because I think it’s imperative in this election that we elect someone who’s going to see the day to day, but also have the vision and the plan to see the long term,” she said. “You have to ask yourself who will really stand up for you, and who can you count on?”

Does Clinton really think we are complete bereft of all our senses, that this absurd effort to win a few cheap votes is anything but the grossest sort of political pandering? Does anyone, even her staunchest supporters, think for one second that this will not cost jobs, reduce the money we have available for our crumbling infrastructure and cause many more problems long term than it would solve. I am absolutely shocked that anyone buys this nonsense.

I always felt like Hillary got a little unfairly raked over the coals for her Iraq vote. No one knew what the heck to think about that war. I thought removing Sadam was a net positive, but this gas tax thing and her attacking Obama over it saying that he is out of touch and elitist is so deplorable and insulting to the voting public its almost unthinkable.

This is such an easy to read grand plan. Hillary follows Mccains lead on the gas tax idea with the hope (because it makes no sense) that Obama would oppose it, Hillary adds this to a long list of ridiculous charges that Obama is somehow an elitist, which is retarded. Obama is a lot of things, but elitist is not one of them, or at least 100% less elitist than Clinton.

Look, Americans, this is bigger than the gas tax. This is a corrupt, dishonest politician who will absolutely do anything to win. To accept her proposals, the Clintons count on people being uneducated and not very well informed about current events. If saving us thirty cents a day over the Summer while destroying 300,000 construction jobs is your idea of good judgement, by all means vote for the Clintons.

Do Americans really believe that a $.30 to $.50 per day savings is really going to make a real difference in their lives? What a gimmick and a way to get votes for all the wrong reasons. Hillary enjoys stooping to tactics such as these to woo lower to middle class voters at the polls. We need long term strategies to our addiction to oil. A summer gas tax holiday is not going to solve our problems by saving a few pennies at the pump. The gas prices will go right back to their high prices right after the summer or even higher once the tax holiday is over. The Clinton campaign has even admitted that this is a way to get votes at the polls and offers nothing else. I admire Obama’s honesty, guts and ability to face Americans in voicing his opposition to this “politics as usual” approach.

Obama just criticizes other people’s plans. But I don’t see him offering up any solutions. He is just a big bag of elitist wind. I suppose that $80 for a few months isn’t a big deal to him but it is to me. That’s a couple of meals for me right there. In this Bush economy, I’ll take anything I can get.

There is nothing wrong with trying out a solution and seeing if it will work. Since I am an economics major, I have learned that reality and economic theories and models are not always in tune. I say, let’s try a solution first. If it doesn’t work, we should try a different one.

At least, by proposing a gas tax plan, Hillary is the only one who is actually listening and trying to do something about our concerns.

What is obama doing? Giving us speeches on “hope”, “change”, and race isn’t helping middle class americans.

to answer the comments before this one, I say yes. Food prices would drop, its another way that
that this would be a good thing.

what is obama proposing to ease the pain? A bandaid is better than exposing the wound to more salt.

Hillary is a joke. Her answers to solving problems are to smear and sue.

Neither McCain nor Hillary is introducing any legislation for this gas tax holiday that they want THIS summer. They also know that a simple bill like this will get lots of resistance in Congress because of the resulting budget/job cuts for highway projects. Obama already tried this holiday in Illinois. Others have also tried. The price just goes up like he said. The only people that don’t know these things are some voters.

GUAM 50/50 split!
Senator Hillary Clinton ties Obama in Guam! Pundits like CNN & MSNBC got it wrong again predicting Obama would win by double digits. Each candidate got 50% of the votes!
DEMOCRATS WANT OBAMA TO DROP OUT NOW! They are not going to give this Presidency to Obama because hes black and if we don’t hand it to him; blacks will riot and stay home, so what? American is ready to elect a black man not this black man who recently revealed a major character flaw and again calls into question his judgment and truthfulness of the candidate whose entire appeal has been based on character or his lack there of and not solutions.

More than half the voters will not vote for obama! 56% who heard speech less likely to vote for Obama, his unfavorable rating among registered voters up 37 percent!! Clinton leads McCain 48 to 41 percent among all registered voters, while Obama and McCain are tied. National lead dropped 10pts now tied with Senator Clinton and he is now losing in IN too. Once 25 pts ahead in NC now just 5pts-

Obama’s Chickens Come Home to Roost too little, too late. The Wright controversy had revealed a major character flaw and calls into question his judgment once again and truthfulness of the candidate whose entire appeal has been based on character. Wright is like an uncle you love and respect As imperfect as he may be, he has been family to me for so many years, I can no more disown him than I can disown the black community” “I can no more disown him [Jeremiah Wright] than I can disown my white grandmother.” a woman who once confessed her fear of black men after a black man had tried to shake her down for money. She gave him some, but he kept demanding more. “If the bus hadn’t come, I think he might have hit me over the head,” Obama says she told him. Rev Wright was right! Obama speech is ONLY for political purposes after the severe drop in polls!

Obama is now declaring himself shocked and disappointed at Wright’s unrepentantly racist and anti-American views? Obamas obviously support his feelings of anti-America and white hatred that the church endorses to stay for 20 years and raise young daughters in that atmosphere Obama can no longer plausibly claim innocence in this matter, because he is the one who has encouraged Wright by trying to excuse and explain his views. All of this is why it is no use for Obama to backpedal from his association with Reverend Wright, or to denounce him now, six weeks too late. It was Obama who sought to provide the Reverend Wright with immunity from criticism–and he can’t complain when the reverend tries to take full advantage of that immunity. This is the final collapse of the noble promise of the Obama campaign. The man who had once put himself forward as the candidate who would transcend racial politics once and for all has ended up legitimizing a Christian equivalent of Louis Farrakhan–and injecting him into the American political debate. http://www.dontvoteobama.net

Thsi is another prefect example where Clinton is offering solutions, trying to help working class and again Obama just disses all solutions, but NEVER has a suggestion of his own. He is too negative and elite to understand middle america. Time to send this wacky politican back to Oprah!

GET OUT OF THE RACE OBAMA

Gas tax holiday profits supposedly go to the oil companies and not to the consumer. Sometimes we don’t see the whole picture when people are trying to get elected, they will say anything. In this instance, according to experts, Hillary and McCain are wrong. The oil companies can raise their price and what sounded like a good idea doesn’t work.

That gas relief plan was McCain’s, Hillary just said, ME TOO!

By the way, what problem, long or short term has she solved? She didn’t bring NY the jobs she promised, and her husband can’t be controlled, what is her appeal?

She cannot get elected in the general. Her husband’s girlfriends aren’t going to stay disappeared.

Who is the better risk/reward bet given the numerous serious problems US faced internally & globally?
Sen. Obama is an unknown risk. To be effective the next President needs to work with Congress & Senate to deliver and execute good policies. Change DC sounds good and easy but not practical; need to work within a more than 200 years established system to effect incremental improvements at the margin. That is the real world.
Ex-Pres. Bill Clinton was a very effective President despite some personal weaknesses, and he delivered the goods and America was strong and well respected globally. Pres. Bush is a disaster.
Sen. Hillary is likely a better and safer bet if she can follow through on Bill’s approach. A woman who stood behind her husband indiscretion speaks of faithfulness and strength not weakness. A woman who keeps trying despite set-backs affirms determination and practicality towards success. A weak and impractical President will ensure US goes down for a long long time after 8 years of bad policy judgements and execution. Best regards America.

There has not been one item from the Obama camp that addressed a problem which was truely solved by an Obama idea. There is little in his background as an IL representative or senator which suggests there is one ounce of problem solving ability in Obama….the only thing that represents what Obama pushes is that I am a “black american” which he is not and I represent “change”….change for what and in what manner. How many times we have heard this from politicians…promising alot …and getting nothing!! A BIG SCAM ….. TAX INCREASE WILL BE A DEFINATE CHANGE ITEM!!!

For Obama and even Clinton this scam is orientated about change with a TAX BITE of huge amounts well beyond anything affordable by the tax payers……remember 90% of taxes paid by the very people which drives job expansion and investments…business expansion etc. So you tax them further and raise corporate tax and capital gain taxes you will not see job expansion nor business expansion. You thought NAFTA was bad wait for the full effects of what Clinton and Obama desire to do.

However, the silver lining here….is most likely the dems are just saying all this for political gain and do not really mean it particularily when they see the true impact on the economy, job creation and business investments. But can you be sure that they will see the light…for Clinton… yes… for Obama… no. They must remember that to tax the “rich” assumes that they (the rich) keep their jobs with an ever expanding business model. If they thought they could really change washington….like Obama desires….such will not occur for the very reason of political survival….tax companys, tax investment and individuals and you likely will see any power gained lost within 2 yrs if not sooner. remember, the voters can change things within 2 yrs.

The definate real change will be who sleeps in the white house….likely it will be the likes of Ayers, Wright, farrakhahn…and the rest of the far left liberal base…even Soros. Remember the Carter days…great economic downturn due to high interest and taxation….this is what dems are in for when their perfect storm is created by political greed. So, are they going to buy votes with a great society program to stay in power?? The economy does not simply grow on trees…it requires investments and the money available to buy those cars and products…take that extra cash from tax payers and you will not see the degree of buying by the actual creators of our economy….the French learned the hard way….the government can not be the big mover in the economy…it must be the citizens…the tax payers.

Remember dems…. reparations for all this black support will cost great amounts….in reality the american indians deserve more on that front than you. And are you going to pay those who actually lost their lives in the civil war….the great number of whites…are you going to pay their families for their sacrifice in allowing slavery to be abolished. Why would you not reward these white families for their supreme sacrifice when those freed from slavery were freed alive. Is it not you desire to keep this voting block??….and really care less about those who lose their lives?

Obama should see that he cannot win in November. The popular vote and the electoral votes just won’t add up for him. He CANNOT win in November. If Obama cares about the course America takes after 8 terrible Bush years, he should support Hillary Clinton who he himself admits is VERY closely aligned with his own convictions. I repeat, Mr. Obama CANNOT WIN in NOVEMBER! Superdelegates - WAKE UP! Citizen’s of this country - WAKE UP! It’s Hilley in 08!

HILLARY CLINTON CAN BEST WIN IN NOVEMBER:

It’s time for everyone to face the truth. Barack Obama has no real chance of winning the national election in November at this time. His crushing defeat in Pennsylvania makes that fact crystal clear. His best, and only real chance of winning in November is on a ticket with Hillary Clinton as her VP.

Hillary Clinton seemed almost somber at her Pennsylvania victory speech. As if part of her was hoping Obama could have proved he had some chance of winning against the republican attack machine, and their unlimited money, and resources.

But it is absolutely essential that the democrats take back the Whitehouse in November. America, and the American people are in a very desperate condition now. And the whole World has been doing all that they can to help keep us propped up.

Hillary Clinton say’s that the heat, and decisions in the Whitehouse are much tougher than the ones on the campaign trail. But I think Mr. Obama faces a test of whether he has what it takes to be a commander and chief by facing the difficult facts, and the truth before him. And by doing what is best for the American people by dropping out of the race, and offering his whole hearted assistance to Hillary Clinton to help her take back the Whitehouse for the American people, and the World.

Mr. Obama is a great speaker. And I am confident he can explain to the American people the need, and wisdom of such a personal sacrifice for them. It should be clear to everyone by now that Hillary Clinton is fighting her heart out for the American people. She has known for a long time that Mr. Obama can not win this November. You have to remember that the Clinton’s have won the Whitehouse twice before. They know what it takes.

If Mr. Obama fails his test of commander and chief we can only hope that Hillary Clinton can continue her heroic fight for the American people. And that she prevails. She will need all the continual support and help we can give her. She may fight like a superhuman. But she is only human.

Sen. Hillary Clinton: “You know, more people have now voted for me than have voted for my opponent. In fact, I now have more votes than anybody has ever had in a primary contest for a nomination. And it’s also clear that we’ve got nine more important contests to go.”

Sincerely

Jacksmith… Working Class :-)

Liza, I think you are very slow in the head. No, you are not too sharp. Listen, you cannot average misery? If 7 people are not suffering much and 3 people are suffering badly. You cannot add up their suffering divide by (7 + 3) and say, well, their average suffering is not bad at all. Yes, the gas tax relief will of little help to a great number of people. But it will greatly help those who drive a lot like truckers, farmers, taxi drivers etc. So, don’t be slow in the head, and dismiss their gain by pulling in all the people who don’t drive much. THINK! I know you are an Obamabot which means your mother ship does your thinking but try and exert yourself a little bit.

Only a bunch of cold elitists can reduce people to numbers and apply statistics to miseries.

It takes special kind of elitism, dumbness, or hypocrisy to believe, taking money from the big oil companies (to the tune of 8 billion dollars!) and giving it to those suffering at the gas pump is political pandering. The true pandering is coming from the dumb ass democrats who are suddenly crying foul at the idea of taxing the rich. To attack Hillary these Obamabots will resort to any kind of hypocrisy. They will love the hate speech of Wright while denouncing the Republicans for the same. They will fall in love with the oil companies while denouncing the Republicans for being too friendly with them.

I think, Dumb Lane, that you are confusing Clinton’s policy with McCain’s. Clinton is not planning on taking money from the infrastructure fund to fund the Gas Tax holiday. She is taking money from the Oil Companies. Kaput?

Here you see the difference. Hillary took a lame Mcain idea and turned it into a workable idea. I realize her opponents don’t want to look at all the objectives. They only see the initial binefit. One thing I learned while working in engineering was two different people can be given the same problem. One fails and the other turns it into a total sucess and the only difference was the two peoples attitude. Looking at these three canidates it’s pretty easy to see who has the drive. Which one has the most positive attitude and fortitude. I prefer Hillary to run my company country. Mr Obama’s math is pretty fuzzy. He must be using the same economist GW Bush is using.

Does Hillary think we are all dumb? She think she can pull a fast one, we are smarter that. She been coming up with some dumb ideas every primaries. But this one she is trying to trick us to vote for us and leave us holding the bag. Shame on her she is still lying.
