Clinton Challenges Congress: Up or Down on Gas Tax

UPDATE: Sen Clinton hit the same notes at her morning rally in Kinston, NC. This video is from that event.

JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind — Faced with a slew of experts and even some political allies who say her plan to suspend the federal gas tax for the summer is anything but a solution to the price problem at the pump, Sen Hilary Clinton took the fight above and beyond her two rivals for the White House — calling on every member of Congress to go on the record to support or oppose a federal gas tax holiday

“Do they stand with the hard pressed Americans who are trying to pay their gas bills at the gas station, or do they once again stand with the oil companies?” she asked. Saying she’ll put the question to them soon in the form of legislation, Clinton said “I want them to tell us, are they with us or against us when it comes to taking on the oil companies?”

As for her two opponents, Clinton attacked them for disagreeing with her plan, which would pay for a suspension of the gas tax with a new excess profits tax on the oil companies. “My opponent Senator Obama says well, that’s not a good idea, that’s just a gimmick. And my other opponent Senator McCain says well yes let’s do that, but let’s not pay for it,” she said.

Lending his support in Jeffersonville was Robert F Kennedy, Jr, a long time Clinton backer and advocate for energy independence who told the crowd that Sen Clinton is tough enough for what she calls the toughest job in the world. “I worked very hard with her when she came into New York state, ran for my father’s senate seat in the state, and I saw what she did during that campaign and election,” he said. “She came in after enduring one of the most savage beatings of any public figure during my lifetime.”

He also joked about the split in the famous Kennedy clan over which Democrat to support this year. “There are some members of my family who’ve decided to do the wrong thing and support Barack Obama,” he said. “Let me tell you why they’re wrong and I’m right - because I know Hillary Clinton better than they know Barack Obama.”

TO ALL THE OBAMA SUPPORTERS:
Since the media is refusing to reveal/report the Paul vs Clinton fraud case in court right now, we need to create our own movement and flood every blog on CNN and every blogging website on the World Wide Web with information from the case regardless of what the topic is. For those that don’t know - Google Paul vs Clinton and hold on to your shirt with what you read!!
For those of you who think this case has been thrown out or is irrelevant:
“In the landmark civil fraud case against Bill Clinton in Los Angeles, where the former President is charged with defrauding a Hollywood dot com millionaire to help Hillary Clinton obtain more than $1.2 million from him for her 2000 Senate campaign, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Aurelio Munoz ruled on Friday, April 25, 2008 that Hillary Clinton would not be required to testify in a sworn deposition as a material witness in the case until AFTER the November election!.” (paulvclinton.com)

If anyone in Clinton’s campaign reads this, use it for proof.
Yesterday, Joe Andrew changed his endorsement from Clinton to Obama.
That is proof the Delegates and Superdelegates are allowed to change their mind at any time.
Joe Andrew showed us it is acceptable.
That also means Obama’s Delegates can change their minds!

Congress needs to realize they can do some business without the 3 presidential candidates. If we wait like Obama wants until he wins the White House we will be in a heap of trouble. Congress is afraid to act because they have a fear if they do something and the economy and oil situation improves their favored son will not win the White House. They are there to work for us and it is about time they start.

*Certified Primaries are the true will of the people, not chaotic, fraudulent caucauses

Obama has opposed to a redo in Florida and Michigan to benefit him yet he said because
he is going by the rules of the game. Soooo, since he likes to go by the rules
he will have to respect the SUPERDELEGATES RULES they will vote for the candidate
better qualified and experienced, not necessarily for the one with most caucauses
votes or more money $$ unless SUPERDELEGATES are bought and corrupted too by

Certified Primaries are the true will of the people Sen. Clinton has won most of

she is s fighter, a survivor in time of personal and political crisis, resciliant

is indeed a true inspiration for people, specially women.

I am proud of her, very proud! Just fear that antiafemenists will rather give the
nomination to a QUESTIONABLE, unpatriotic Obama than to a hard working Lady, Hillary.

I support her because:

*** Fellow Democrats, Independents, and well-minded Republicans,

Forward this to your parents, family, and friends. Let them know
the truth. Barack Obama criticized Hillary Clinton for not being able to make the
right judgement on day one, he was referring to her vote in 2003 for the Iraq War.
Obama has admitted using Marijuanna and having a coccaine addiction, both during
his teen years. Obviously this isn’t the right judgement, so why is he criticizing
her about right judgement?

*his case here is far more worse. *From my standpoint I see 5 things here: 1. Voters
and other people are being tricked and will be tricked in the
future by Obama if they already aren’t now.
2. The Obama family may be unpatriotic.
3. The media is afraid of going against him because of accusations of hate
crimes, therefore the media isn’t actually “keeping them honest.”
4. All of this info should make people reconsider their choices.
5. Obama would be a very bad President.

** Obama has no room to talk about making the right judgement. Michelle Obama’s
college thesis from Princeton University was exposed and in it she said, “She felt
that she did not fit in with white people and that whites didn’t think of her much
because she was black.” Okay,… From my view I see Mrs. Obama as a first lady who
might be against white people. Also, she recently said, “I must admit it, I have
to say that I am proud of my country for the very first time.” This is not only
said sad since she’s been around for 45 years, but this worries me that she doesn’t
care about the great achievements that have happened like; the civil rights Act
of 1991, the fall of both communism and the Berlin Wall, the great economic growth
and prosperity which made the Nat’l Debt became a surplus for the 1st time in American
History which was achieved in the 1990’s.

** I’m beginning to worry…. We cannot let Barack Obama become president at times
like this. Only someone who has experience and great plans can restore this great
nation to its state it once was just before the Second Bush Era began.

** I Urge everyone you know to vote for Hillary Clinton in the upcoming primaries
and if you are upmostly against her, those against her should consider voting for
her as the “lesser of the two evils” to save the Nation.

** I am a democrat who has always supported Clinton ever since she became a Senator
and if I was of age to vote I would for the Democratic Nomination, I would vote
Clinton over Obama by a long shot.

** For the Presidency, I would vote Clinton over McCain by a long shot. As badly
as I want a Democrat for the Presidency, I would have to vote for John McCain over
Obama to prevent the country from falling apart. If Barack Obama would win the Democratic
Nomination, he will beat McCain and then we’re screwed.

** Hillary Clinton would clobber McCain and as President, she would restore the
nation to its former state which was before the Bush dictatorship

** Like Hillary Clinton said, “It took a Clinton to clean up after the first Bush,
it will definitely take another Clinton to clean up after this Bush”

A great lady for President!

It’s important to understand that Mr. Obama hasn’t demonstrated a great deal of original thought.

He is a tool for and puppet of, the national socialists, black power crowd, pacifists, and muslim sympathizers. They orchestrated this campaign from several years back. They have mesmerized their intended demographic (black, young & impressionable, liberal), and likely surpassed their own expectations for success thus far.

However, the vaneer is being peeled away with each new revelation of Obama’s past, and the rot is being exposed.

If the dems’ myopia compels them to ultimately nominate Obama, the GOP wins in a landslide in Nov, and possibly regains a Senate majority.

You’ll never hear anything of note from Obama again. He’s a Dukasis do-over.

I am considering changing parties. I have been a democrat for decades, but now,
if Osama wins, I have to vote republican. I just read about this Osama closet muslim
and he is very scary. The thought of this person in charge of our military is umbelievable!
The reason Osama was against the Irag invasion was beacuse Iraq is a muslim nation!
Osama lied about his religion, he was/is a muslim. He outwardly changed religion
because a muslim would have a more difficult time being elected. His long time partner
in crime, Resko, is a Syrian muslim. Resko raised a huge fortune to get Osama started
in politics. As you may know, Resko is in jail without bound and his trial is set

WASHINGTON - Sen. Barack Obama’s refusal to wear an American flag lapel pin
along with a photo of him not putting his hand over his heart during the National

Now Obama’s wife, Michelle, has drawn their ire, too, for saying recently that

Second, I don’t know what Congress is going to do about the Tax Holdiday, but they are already discussing the second part of Clinton’s proposal, calling for a wind-fall tax on the oil companies! Guess her proposal has some merit afterall. Not that Obama supporters or Republicans would ever admit that.

Americans are, by and large, moderate to conservative when it comes right down to it.
Complaining about taxes and high prices, then voting for a liberal democrat, is nonsensical. They won’t do it.

When faced with the realization that a weakened national defense exposes not only us, but our civilized friendly allies and mutual economies to radical islam, they won’t be able to vote liberal democrat either.

More and higher taxation directly correlates to loss of personal liberty, while enriching those who did nothing for the enrichment - that’s called theft. Again, voting for a liberal democrat makes no sense here.

Take heart. When the democrats finish flogging themselves, and determine a nominee, the ensuing mono e mono campaign will reveal the undesirable national socialist nature of today’s democrat party.

If it’s Obama, well, he simply hasn’t the demographic base to win.

If it’s Clinton, she’ll be a more formidable opponent, but in essence she’s in the same political quadrant as Obama. She’s just a more effective deceiver.

I’m not a McCain fan, but there’s no way I’d vote myself a pay cut (higher taxes), a personal responsibility cut, and a security cut by voting for a liberal democrat.

Comment by Truth

You are right barbara. We need to build more refineries, drill our own oil, and the 18 cents would be a start. I don’t understand why something wasn’t done earlier. I knew 2 years ago when prices started going up and than down it was a test to see how much we would be willing to pay. I got rid of my gas guzzler and bought a compact. If I knew this why didn’t Congress understand this and begin to do something than. The Dems have done nothing since taking over Congress except to make matters worse unless you count the menu change for the cafeteria changes Nancy Pelosi made.

DEBATING about each state critical needs and what the candidates will do to help.
Not just go arround campaigning with prepared pretty speaches and sweet rpomises.

Each debate should involve some questions from the viewers, this way voters will
see how candidates react with UNPREPARED SITUATIONS. A President must be able
to deal with UNPREPARED situations.

It appears Obama can’t handle UNPREPARED SITUATIONS, fears the unknown, he

People on this blog, not suprisingly, are in a state of suspended reality. Top economists have indicated that the McCain/Clinton gas tax holiday will most likely INCREASE the cost of gas because the Oil companies will, suprise, take advantage of the situation and increase their price - their is NO safeguard in the plan to prevent this. Even if they don’t raise the price of tax, guess how much the average American is going to save over the three month holiday - $28 - that’s right, $28. You get 1/2 tank over three months. Gee, what a savings. I wonder how much money the oil companies are going to make in that same three month period. She’s NOT doing you any favors here. Now she wants members of her party to support this idiotic diversion. She may get her answer - super delegate style. In addition, it is telling that some of you would consider Rev. Wright’s statements of greater importance than a lawsuit against BOTH Hillary and Bill Clinton for corruption and fraud in campaign financing. This is not a frivolous accusation - it is scheduled for trial, even though all the attorneys at the Clinton’s disposal have not been able to have it dismissed as without merit. You people choose words vs. illegal activities. Stupifying.

America needs a President who at least have friends who respect America, experience and strenght are a must to survive the global crisis facing at this time.

Obama is an elitist and out of touch with the Americans, just like his supporters such as Nancy Peluso. He makes fun of people who needs the gas tax break because it is a mere $30/week savings! For some folks, $30/week is 1 or 2 weeks worth of grocery, a few more trips looking for a job.

Nancy is vengeful towards the Clinton and she has done a very poor job. She knows that she will loose her job if Clinton is elected, so she is casting her lot with Obama, somebody that she can control. As speaker and the big superdelegate, she should focus on listening to the people instead of disfranchising them.

Any OIL changes will have to approve by the congress so neither Obama, Clinton or Macain proposals are a sure thing. At least Macain has Clinton are trying to help but I doub it will pass.

The only way it will work and bring the prices down is by consumers WALKING MORE and driving less, JUST AS NEEDED. That is the only way! BUY LESS GAS.

SMALL ECONOMIC CARS ARE ALSO THE ANSWER, forget about HAMMERS and others.

Truth - the windfall tax has been proposed by Obama as well. He just doesn’t support a stupid waste of time, tax holiday, that will do nothing to address the real problem nor give average Americans any real economic relief. The holiday is election year pandering and typical of politics as usual. And regarding your selective assault on Pelosi, um, I believe Clinton has benefited from the same “perks”. It is OUR gluteonous abuse of oil products that contributes to the problem - supply and demand - ever heard of that? If Americans would stop driving gas guzzling vehicles we might not be so dependent on OPEC. We all are responsible for this problem and some stupid political quick fix is not going to help - we need long term solutions, not “are you with us or against us” Bushisms from a Democratic candidate. Interesting how you don’t address the lawsuit against the Clintons.

Why can’t we all start doing something about these oil companies? We all gripe about it but do nothing. Oh, I have to go out. I have to go out to eat. I have to go to the movies. I have to go to the beach. We need to pick one weekend a month to start with and everybody stays at home with family. Do you know how much money they would lose? It would be astronomical.

But we’ll continue to sit by complaining and driving our big SUVs. Someone please organize something. I’ll back you 100%. Lets do it!

Obama is the choice of the smart people. Not for us ignorants and haters who cling to Bill O’Reilly and Fox News. We want McBush/Billary 08!

This Democratic lead Congress is trying to pass an emergency food bill for over $770. mil!
The same front page is reporting a $1.2 Billion Surplus the UN is sitting on.
We should be applying for some of that $1.2 Blillion surplus to aid AMERICANS. Not passing an emergency food aid program!!!!!!!!!!
Then the US will have $1.2 Billion, plus our $770. Million dollars, while we have nothing!

The only way it will work and bring the prices down is by consumers WALKING MORE and driving less, JUST AS NEEDED. That is the only way! BUY LESS GAS.
__________________________________________________________________

I am willing to buy less gas, but I think so should Al Gore, all those in Congress, the Hollywood types, and those who will be driving back and forth to the Hamptons this summer. I am willing to do my part but as usual it rest on the middle class and lower class to sacrifice.

I meant “UN”, not US.

If SUPERDELEGATES care about America’s economy and its safety they shouldn’t support inexperienced Obama and his hatefull friends. Its never too late, there is plenty of undecided SUPERDELEGATES to save America from further destruction!

Macain or Hillary 08.

It is up to you now to decide what is best for our country.

What a scary thought ahead for our country…

So what..we need to take care of ourselves. If the “Democratic Lead Congress” gave a rats butt then they would lower taxes so we could afford more(food). Instead they want to try to support millions of losers who have no desire to work. I’m sick of it.

If Congress passes that bill, They are FIRED!
I never get emotional on issues, but we are getting “stiffed by the UN and our own Congress!
UN needs more money from us? BAH!
Where is our $2 Billion surplus?????
Screw the UN! They are the biggest crooks we deal with!
They are more dangerous to our economy than our sworn enemies!

PaulvClinton is a Civil case. Paul already has 4 convictions 2 for fraud. The judge has thrown most of his allegations out. Hillary is not charged with anything. Paul is just mad at Clinton and there is nothing there. Just vindictive. Any one can file a law suit. Don’t worry. If there was any thing to it the anti Hillary press would be all over it.
With Obamas policies it seems as though he is running for “Party Chairman” (communist)not POTUS. Obama is a puppet to his left wing Handlers. There is nothing there. We can see thru him like a ghost.
Through the liberal socialists out down ballot as well.

Truth - the windfall tax has been proposed by Obama as well.

The problem with Obama he does not want to do anything until he is elected. I sold my gas guzzling caar 2 years ago when I knew the prices were being tested to see how much we would be willing to pay. Again my question is why Congress did not react at that time to fix the problem. Answer the only way to get a democrat elected President is to let the gas prices climb and economy tank. Thank you Congress.

Truth, you are right but also remember there are more people driving smaller cars and making lees money than Hollywood stars. It the rich can pay for high prices of gas there is nothing we can do to stop them, is up to their concience.

** We the not tooo rich people need to do our part: WALK MORE AND DRIVE LESS = LOWER PRICES OF GAS. Its a given!

**** WALK MORE, ‘DRIVE LESS’, BUY LESS = LOWER GAS PRICES. ***

We should start a campaign, a chain pushing for this.
