Reverend Wright Comes Up on the Trail — Again
Barack Obama told reporters the day his former pastor spoke at the National Press Club that voters don’t ask him about Reverend Wright on the campaign trail. “What I think is interesting is nobody, none of the voters I talk to ask about it. Now there may be people who are troubled by it and are being polite and not asking about it, but that’s not what I hear from the voters,” he said in Wilmington, North Carolina.
Yesterday, after he watched Wright’s performance himself, Obama held an extensive media avail on the issue, hoping to nip the problem in the bud (or in this case, full on blossom) once and for all. But just one day later, a voter at an event in Indianapolis brought up Reverend Wright at a forum meant to focus on middle class tax cuts.
“Recently you have been forced to basically turn your back on someone who had been a good friend for a long time and I wonder if you could tell us how much of a toll this takes on you to be forced by attacks sometimes unfair attacks on people to have to turn your back on people who have been good to you in the past,” a middle-aged voter asked the candidate.
“The situation with Reverend Wright was difficult, I won’t lie to you,” Obama began. “He’s somebody who married us, he baptized our children – he’s done good things in terms of building the church, but frankly what he said over the last few days and in some of the sermons that have been excerpted were unacceptable and weren’t things that we believed in or cared about or cared to believe in. I’ve made a statement yesterday that was hard to make but it was I believed, and what we want to do now tho is to make sure that this doesn’t continue to be a perpetual distraction,” he said with Michelle at his side.
He acknowledge this kind of scrutiny of people who are “tangentially” associated with you is “part of the job when you’re running for president,” but then said it’s unfortunate. Downplaying his relationship with his former pastor of twenty years, Obama continued, “‘Cause most of us in our lives – we meet people, we know people – some people we work with or we sit on a board with – we don’t really go vet them and find out all the terrible things they might have done ‘cause you know we don’t know – or what they said to see if it’s politically correct,” he said, but then noted it’s important for the American people to “know who I am and what my values are and what I stand for, and I don’t stand for some of the things Reverend Wright said.”
It’s time to get back to the issues, he said, clearly wanting to move beyond what has plagued his campaign for months. “We want to get back to talking about you. This campaign’s not about me – it’s not about John McCain, it’s not about Hillary Clinton – it’s about you and your struggles and your dreams and I don’t want to continue to play the same politics that we’ve been doing for the last eight years where you just have this back and forth, tit-for-tat, trying to dig up dirt on other people, trying to you know, call each other names and not get anything done,” he said.
When Obama asked his wife if she had anything to add, she declined the microphone. Obama laughed, “You do, but….Remember there are a lot of reporters around though.”
With the focus of the election focusing on Reverend Wright and not the issues, it’s no wonder that just before the question came up, Michelle noted her distaste for politics. “I’ve spent my whole life trying to convince him not to be a politician. It’s like, ‘teach, write, sing, dance – I don’t care what you do, just don’t do this! these people are mean. It’s like no!’” she said with a laugh.

I find it funny Hillary was mean a month ago when she said she would of left that church. Now everyone seems to notice what Obama has missed for over 20 years. Wright didn’t change look at his past sermons. It was enough until Wright said Obama was doing what a politician does and wham he is now off Obama list of friends wow say you hate America,people who are not black, the government, call for the destruction of Israel but don’t dare call Obama an politician and he is doing what politicians do. That is when Obama had enough everything else Wright has said before.

Well Timothy McVeigh had also been a decorated ex-military man and look at the damage he did. Also, he stated he hadn’t heard Wright’s saying this when he was in church, if he missed it, surely Michelle heard him, and maybe that explains another reason for Michelles feelings and statements about this Country.
I just can’t believe Obama is even honest after his dis-association with Wright (how do we know that is truth?) How can we trust him to make good judgments as a president considering everything that has come out about him.
I have many friends that I do not believe the same on some issues as they do. But with the people I am close to we share the same core values. We share the love of God, family and friends. We believe in this country with all its baggage and know that through our mistakes we learn and grow. If we do not listen to the same music or read the same books or watch the same tv shows that is not a issue. This man was close to Rev. Wright. He shared the same core values as Obama or they would not of had the close connection they have had all these years. That my friends is the differance. If people are angry because Rev. Wright is coming back to play havoc it is Obama’s own fault. Don’t bleam the messenger listen to the message. You might not like what you hear but because you don’t like it dosn’t mean that it is not the truth.

Obama says he went to Wright for direction. He said Wright was a mentor and an adviser.
Wright has been disappeared by the campaign; Obama has replaced him with high profile white ministers who do not preach the racial exclusiveness and racial superiority that is a hallmark of Jeremiah Wright; however, they seem to share an anti-Israel bias.
Obama has called Wright his spiritual mentor, his moral compass and his sounding board. He was the man who gave Obama the term, “The Audacity of Hope” after all. He was also the man who told Obama that there are more black men in prison then in colleges — a statement that Obama parroted until he was told that it was false.
K now he says he was never a mentor nor adviser Obama needs to learn when you lie don’t have it in newspapers already that shows you DID say it.
If a white candidate belonged to a church where the minister promoted an anti-black, anti-Semitic theology he would be roundly subject to criticism (assuming his candidacy would even be viable in the face of this background). Why should Obama get a pass?

Obama is getting desperate, he is trying to pretend that he only had a insignificant relationship with wright, same excuse he uses about ayers. He called his book after a sermon of Rev Wrights which was full of anti-white rhetoric, he said he was like a crazy uncle, he sat in his church for 20 years, now claims that he never knew wright was like this and that he was not his spiritual mentor, he knew that wright was going to be a problem so wright was asked not to be at Obamas announcement for President, but Rev Wright was still on his spiritual council. Obama needs to say what he believes in, which statements of Wrights has he found contraversial throughout the yearsm why he didn’t leave the church after hearing some of the rhetoric. I can understand wy Rev Wright is angry at Obama. Obama didn’t belong to a church so he joined Wrights church and they were integral to obamas rise in Chicago politics, now that he has got what he wanted and is afraid of losing the white vote, Obama turns on him. Obama will say anything to become President, he is unelectable, he claims he doesn’t know Wright funny he was defending him a few weeks ago. Obama needs to drop out of the race now, all his supporters are doing is spewing more hatred at hillary Clinton, this will increase the split on the democratic party, he is unelectable and for the sake of the democrats he needs to get out now and work to ensure hillary wins in November, he has been so devisive, maybe next time the democrats will learn to vet their candidates, Rev Wright is only one of many radicals that Obama associates with.

It’s time for everyone to face the truth. Barack Obama has no real chance of winning the national election in November at this time. His crushing defeat in Pennsylvania makes that fact crystal clear. His best, and only real chance of winning in November is on a ticket with Hillary Clinton as her VP.
Hillary Clinton seemed almost somber at her Pennsylvania victory speech. As if part of her was hoping Obama could have proved he had some chance of winning against the republican attack machine, and their unlimited money, and resources.
But it is absolutely essential that the democrats take back the Whitehouse in November. America, and the American people are in a very desperate condition now. And the whole World has been doing all that they can to help keep us propped up.
Hillary Clinton say’s that the heat, and decisions in the Whitehouse are much tougher than the ones on the campaign trail. But I think Mr. Obama faces a test of whether he has what it takes to be a commander and chief by facing the difficult facts, and the truth before him. And by doing what is best for the American people by dropping out of the race, and offering his whole hearted assistance to Hillary Clinton to help her take back the Whitehouse for the American people, and the World.
Mr. Obama is a great speaker. And I am confident he can explain to the American people the need, and wisdom of such a personal sacrifice for them. It should be clear to everyone by now that Hillary Clinton is fighting her heart out for the American people. She has known for a long time that Mr. Obama can not win this November. You have to remember that the Clinton’s have won the Whitehouse twice before. They know what it takes.
If Mr. Obama fails his test of commander and chief we can only hope that Hillary Clinton can continue her heroic fight for the American people. And that she prevails. She will need all the continual support and help we can give her. She may fight like a superhuman. But she is only human.

Having been married for a couple decades, I applaud Hillary for staying to work on the problems in her marriage. Look at the divorce rate….it’s almost like marriage and family is disposable anymore.

Ummm…WHY NOT? Hillary knew before, during and after her husband’s White House sexual scandal that her husband fooled around with other women (with and WITHOUT their consent). Hillary made her long-time decision to be an enabler based on her own personal and long-term political ambitions. Both of the Clintons are pure counterfeits!

whether or not Obama was present for the outlandish remarks that the Rev.spoke,that drew so much attention,really doesn’t mean a darn thing….This kind of theology has a doctrine(if you will)all of its own with all the undertones of things that aren’t Christian….Did the Church do good things for the community probably so ,but good things aren’t the way to salvation,which is the prime reason for the Church….Jesus said:I am the way the truth and the life,and no one comes to the father except by me…………So the question still stands as to why Mr. Obama,did you spend twenty yrs under that ministry…..Anti Americanism isn’t something that should darken the doorway of the Whitehouse

The fact is Barack can never do enough because he doesn’t quite get what the problem is. This is not isolated to Wright, he’s just part of the problem. Barack has a handful of associates, and probably more, that are truly despictable and unless he denounces all of them (too late) he will always be viewed as a typical politician only reacting because he was caught. Barack is soiled and it won’t go away.
The problem for me isn’t Wright. It’s the way Obama has handled the whole thing. first he says one thing then another, then another, then another. He seems to be trying to say each time what he thinks people want to hear. He should have just stuck with the truth from day one.

To each his own, but let’s look at something. I’m not going to dig too deep into all of this, but let’s first look at McCain, who ”has the experience”, yet multiple times he couldn’t even remember who we were fighting. Sooo much experience I know! Not to mention the well known 100 years in Iraq story. On the other, we have Hillary who many of her own people are leaving her campaign to go to Obama’s. Hmmm?.. And, she’s literally stolen so many of both McCain and Obama’s ideas.
Guilt by associations aside (BECAUSE THEY ALL HAVE THEM. The News just Refuses to be as proactive about Hillary and McCain’s) I think Obama has the best ideas on where to take this country compared to the other two.

Wow, you belong to a religion in which you don’t believe in some of their teachings. I guess you can empathize with Obama and his church then, according to his own words. He picks and chooses what to believe in his church too.
I guess I’d have a hard time walking into a church every week only believing part of their teachings.
All of this discussion about race makes me sick to my stomach. I guess the country has forgotten that Obama is also white! Remember that! Or is it that we painted him as black candidate we have lost fact that he is bi-racial? The things that Rev. Wright said clearly conflicts with Barack’s character and racial background.
As a proud African American woman (and a reformed republican) - I will continue to support Obama. I strongly believe that Rev. Wright has bought into the hype of media attention and has made himself (Not Obama) look like a fool. As democrats, we should all be about uplifting and not tearing down our candidates. I admire Obama for being able to take the number of blows that has been given to him throughout this campaign. How many people can honestly keep cool under the pressure that he has been faced with? There is so much dirt he could have thrown at the Clintons - but he continues to take the high road. Clearly he could have ran a campaign like Hillary’s and threw in the kitchen sink, refrigerator, garbage disposal, etc. He has yet to lose his cool or strike back with negative comments. This is something that we should keep in mind. He has soooooooooooo much patience and sincerity. If he has patience to deal with the nonsense that he has faced during his campaign he most certainly have the patience to deal with the powers that be in Washington. It is a shame that the ONLY thing negative that can be said about Obama is that he has a CRAZY former pastor. Wow, that is pretty deep.
Rev. Wright is seeking attention. Why give him the pleasure? He paints a bad image of African American pastors and the black church.
It surely is Silly Season. I believe the spirit of jealousy and hatred has taken over Rev. Wright. I will continue praying for this country and the divisive people in it. Right now Obama has 3 candidates to deal with - Hillary, McCain, and Rev. Wright.
Obama you still have my vote! No wishy, washy, democrat here!

This is a sad, sad day for America.
I said long ago that this case will be nothing about the issues but all about a black man and white man and a black man do not stand a chance. I was just waiting on it the world to figure out Sen. Obama was a black man.
One thing to think about FoxNews keep saying will Sen Obama will never win without the white vote well Sen Clinton will never win without the black vote.
If she rightfully win the nomination that would be fine but changing the rules in the middle of the game is not fair. She is cheating and that is not fair. “Cheaters never win”.
Another thing I see happening is that EVERY single one of them on the news channels now when they have a black guest they have to announce that person’s title and include, “a good friend of mine”.. it’s the same as the old phrase “I have many black friends”.
I state again this race is NOT AT ALL about the issues but ALL about a black man WILL NEVER be President.

You know im finding it very difficult to find Obama credible. I mean when this story broke over a month ago he came out and said he couldnt disown him no more that his grandma. And now when the reverened puts a little heat on him for being a regular politician he throws his preacher under the bus. It seems to me he got advice this was damaging and done this. It also appears to me that Obama may have used pastor wright and the church to get were he is and now that he thinks hes got it wrapped up its alright to disown him. America cant you see whats going on here. This man is not known at all. At least we know alot about Hillary and McCAin. Ive said it before and ill say it again Obama cant be trusted. I belive his pastor will come out again and make this a whole lot worse. Obama should have done this a year ago, but he tried to play both sides. Hes just another politician.

barack says..lets get back to the issues…ok…1.you say you want to put windfall profits tax on the oil companies..lol…this wll just cause them to raise prices even more
2.you’re going to pull the troops out of iraq…ok,then iran will move in and we will have a MUCH bigger problem in that part of the world
3. you want to implement national health insurance…ok,then we’ll have a mess just like great britain and canada,where many have to wait months to see a doctor or dentist or to get even critical surgery,not to mention the fact that the u.s.govenment cannot even manage social security or medicare and now you want to put in an insurance program for everyone.
4.you want to roll back the bush tax cuts which will actually mean an approximate 1800.00 per year tax increase for the average american family…whew…
we could go on and on barack but…your history and character over the past 20 years IS an issue…and for you to say you were unaware of rev.wright’s views (after 20 years) is REALLY stretching crediblity. problem is,hillary is pretty much on the same page on all these issues,and the way i see it,the big loser here is not just going to be the democratic party,but the american people!
