Obama on Wright: “He does not speak for me. He does not speak for the campaign.”
On a noisy, windy tarmac in Wilmington, North Carolina, Barack Obama took a few minutes to address his traveling press corps - despite running more than an hour behind schedule. “I wanted to make sure that I made myself available for you guys briefly. We’re running about an hour late, but obviously since Reverend Wright had his Press Club event today, I assume you guys wanted a response or a reaction of some sort,” he said, standing in front of his campaign plane, jets noisily running.
“Yeah,” someone in the gaggle responded.
done
“I have said before and I will repeat again that what some of the comments that Reverend Wright have made offend me, and I understand why they’ve offended the American people. He does not speak for me. He does not speak for the campaign, and so he may make statements in the future that don’t reflect my values or concerns,” he said. Instead, Obama said his intention was to focus on the issues important to the American people along the campaign trail.
In the middle of his response, a helicopter rudely landed nearby, causing the senator to pause and smile. “Alright anyway, so I’m gonna take three questions and then we gotta go,” he declared.
When asked if he felt betrayed by his former pastor, Obama laughed. “What the last 3 days indicate is that we’re not coordinating with him. He’s obviously free to speak his mind,” he observed.
How will he handle the Wright issue going forward? Obama noted that most of the voters he’s met along the campaign trail have not been asking him about Reverend Wright, but about issues like the economy, gas prices, and health care. Since the Wright scandal, only a few questioners have asked Obama about his former pastor out of hundreds of questions fielded - not including those from reporters, of course.
“I think people will understand that I am not perfect and that, you know, there are gonna be, you know, folks in my past like Reverend Wright that may cause them some concern but that ultimately, you know, my 20 years of service and the values that I’ve written about and spoken about and promoted are their values, and what they’re concerned about and that’s what this campaign has been about and what it’s going to continue to be about,” he said.

Baracks attempts to distance himself from the IRREVERENT Wright and his other associates is simply disingenuise. It’s simply to little, too late, and I’m not buying it for a minute.
Yeah, I guess Rev. Rant didn’t speak for Obama for the last 20 years. Ask yourself? Why would Obama sit and listen to this fool for 20 years and even write about this nutjob as his ’spiritual mentor’.
The problem is it was not until it became a problem Mr Obama that you decided to distance yoursself from these remarks. I have to believe that until now this is exactly what you believe. You own books are full of false statements. So why should I think you now have a different view.
You knew all along Obama what your Pastor has been saying, he is anti american, and a racist.
How you could attend this church for 20 years and listen to this garbage is beyond theunderstanding of most people.
I hope to God this man doesn’t win the nomination. Calling all republicans………HELP US!
Don’t let this man win the Dem. nomination!
OBAMA/WRIGHT = WRONG!
Obama keeps saying he does not agree with Wright - BUT - he is still a member of that church - WHY??? He needs to leave!
After 20 years there - he must believe some of what was taught - even some is just too much for me.
Wright’s attitude is “us against them” - “Us” being Black People “Them” being White people -
this is not the message Obama talks about. Is this all for show - tells us what we want to hear?
I do not like the comment from Wright - “Obama says what he has to - he is a Politician”!
This is not a good message for someone who wants to be the President of the UNITED States.
Wright has caused major harm to Obama’s campaign, and it will never go away.
Look, The IRREVERENT Wright is what he is but the fact is he is not the only issue Barack has difficulty with. Barack has several assoicates that are just awful to include, Wright, Rexkp, Ayers, Odinga, etc. He has a wife that seems to be ashamed of America. He refuses to wear a lapel pin saying he doesn’t want to take sides. And what’s worse is his far left agenda.
He’s simply a bad candidate and I think everyone is aware of that now.
Wright is going to be a problem for Obama now and all the way to the white house and after. Democrats should ask themselves if this is what they want. Obama = wright… two for the price of one.
He said people are not asking him about Rev Wright, they are asking him about gas prices.
I wonder if Obama explained in response that environmentalist (democrat) lawsuits against every effort by energy providers to bring energy to market adds alot to the price of fuel and all goods and services and since the democrats are the party of Global Warming and since Obama is a believer in human caused Global Warming that americans must get used to the idea that democrats will continue to drive up prices for everything with their foolish GREEN religion?
I wonder if that’s the answer he gives?
Rev. Wright doesn’t speak for Sen. Obama; he says he speaks for God. Moreover, no man can say how God speaks to another. Obama has been spoken to by Rev. Wright for 20 years, and it has helped him to seek a workable ideology for the people he serves. Obama has proven that he can listen to the people and began to get an understanding of there way of thinking and finding command ground the masses can use to move forward. I think we would serve ourselves better to move to issues that matter regarding this mans word and works not his pastors. Obama probably did not even go to church every Sunday. How could he if he is constantly campaigning and traveling on business. Give me a break. Obviously, this is not a good time for this conversation, because the subject rubs all the parties the wrong way. However, the truth my need to be spoken in various places regarding the still raw racial feelings amongst American people are experiencing. In order for Obama to cut this is take charge and put it under his feet. You do not have to deal with Wright any further when they ask you about Wright simple say, “ I have put this issue in the hands of my God.” This battle is not yours it is the Lords. Stay the course of positive motivation of the American people, because we need it.
Throw Obama overboard.
Queen Tea,
The problem is, Obama is running for President and we Americans not only evaluate their experience but judgement. Unfortunately, Barack seems to have neither.
I believe that Rev Wright and Barack Obama are one in the same in their beliefs! I do believe that Rev Wright is saying what Barack believes in but does not want the USA to get! As a citizen of the United States I fear for this country if Barack Obama wins the Dem Primary.
Dump Obama. He should be impeached!
He is a total fake and Rev Wright says exactly what Obama listened to — and agreed with — for 20 years.
Are we really supposed to believe today that Obama doesn’t agree with Black liberation Theology about White Hatred? Barack signed the pledge.
He is rotten and un-american. A racist thru & thru.
throw him under the bus!
It has been widely reported and even admitted by Barack that if he won the nomination he may have to distance himself from Wright because of his extreme views. Nothings changed and so we can expect him to put more and more distance between them for political reasons as he gets closer to the nomination. The only problem is Barack, the genuis, already told us he woul and now his mentor is making it clear why.
As if obama and his hateful wife aren’t a problem enough..here is the reverend that he was hoping would never come to light..now front and center confirming the so called snippet sound bites are actually the way of life in this church….where do they get off having a BLACK church and not just a CHURCH in the United States of America…welcoming all
Obama donor received favors…his name is Roert Blackwell Jr.
The article is in the LA Times…just type in Robert’s name on their site…I tried to post it and it would not let me.
Interesting article.
Obama, of course he doesnt speak for you. He’s just your grand personal mentor.
Obamessiah is finished.
Republicans are giddy now. Obama cant win, Hillary cant win, McCain cant lose.
Time to go.
McCain 08!!
Obama and Wright could smoke crack with hookers on national TV and it wouldn`t make any difference. This process is far enough along that Obama has to get a free pass. The DNC will hand him the nomination, and the press will bury McCain in the general election. If Obama doe`s not win, every city in the country will burn. Just like the O.J. trial, threats of civil unrest will prevail.
In regards to Wright…….That man needs therapy.
RC MO, is that a threat?
This is something that I, as an African- American, must address to the controversy over this issue. First and foremost, we must never forget where we come from. Some people will not understand Rev. Wright’s stance on issues and that’s acceptable. But remember that we are all individuals in this great nation. We are no different no matter the skin color, religious beliefs that we have or political views that we express. In order to understand the context that Rev. Wright has proposed, you must put yourself in those shoes. Our country has done its fair share of dirt that some people do not believe is right and justified. But in order to progress in the nation as a successful nation and world power, we must take the trials and tribulations the have plagued this country and change for the better good. We all have differences, which make the nation what it is today, but it is also how we move foward as American that we as a people we reach true reconcilation for the mistakes that were committed in the past. I truely hope that people take a step back and see that the more we ostacise one another over the simple principals of freedom of speech and expression, the more we divide this country. We all must look deep in our hearts and souls to be the judge of our character and demeanor. So take everything with a grain of salt and remember where we as a people have come from. Thank you.
And wright makes me want to throw up…I cannot believe anyone thinks it is okay that this was Obama’s pastor. And as a Christian I am insulted, totally, that he and Obama say they are Christians…they are all about black power and that is it!!!
My stomach is sick…if my fellow Americans are voting him in, my family will be leaving you idiots with him…and taking all the jobs my husband and his family provide over the Southwest. This guy is extreme trouble…he is Islamic. Proof:
1.Born Muslim…never rejected Mohammed…if he had there would be a bounty on his head.
2.Odinga…his radical Muslim cousin who he backs who has recently burned about 300 black Christians alive in Kenya. A christian would never stand behind a relative like this.
3. Obonga…his half brother who in his book he said he is most proud of as he pursues his Muslim ways.
4. Obama says there is more than one way to God…Christians know and believe there is but one way…period.
5. in his book he states if the winds change he will stand with the Muslims.
6. Wright is accepting protection from Farakkhan who is Islamic (radical Muslim)…no Christian I know would do this.
7. Hatem El-Hady and Khalidi support him and Muslims are hoping for the big win…believe me they are rooting for McCain!!!
8. One needs to wonder why he didn’t vote to go to war…with the info they were given at the time…could it be he doesn’t want to attack a Muslim country???
Democrats…….The Self Imploding Party
The party of Global Warming Hysteria.
And they thought BUSH was a moron.
They had eight years to get this right.
And all they came up with is Obama the FAR LEFT LOON
And Hillary A WOMAN SCORNED by Bill the FORNICATOR.
Tisk tisk……..a national party no more.
Fr. J, No it`s not a threat. I`m a republican and McCain supporter, but I think that`s what will happen if Obama does not win. I think people with more power than us will make sure he wins to avoid it.
. Hatem El-Hady and Khalidi support him and Muslims are hoping for the big win…believe me they are rooting for McCain!!!
Typo I meant they are NOT rooting for McCain.
MAY 6 will tell the tale; this whole rev. wright mess just makes me sick to the stomach. its either that or why come you don’t have a flag pin? etc………….. while bush and his admin has set this country back for generations and he getting ready to leave this mess w/ the next president the same old republican way of doing things every 20 yrs the republicans have to renew the old money that they have [ blown] and spent their bank is getting low . so they pick on a country start a war make tons of money from it. and leave the mess to a democrat. go back in 20yr intervels and you will see the pattern. AFTER ROBBING US bush and his people. thumbs their nose and say SO WHAT you can’t do nothing about it. see this is alright to america’s cause you people really haven’t suffered YET. but like the ol wise woman said . JUST KEEP LIVIN.
check out the LA times…type in Robert Blackwell JR>on their site…
Obama gave favors to this donor…with our tax money
Another ax
I guess goofy kids can get on here and say anything.
I will say it again….”Barack Obama…in your heart you know he’s Wright”
I heard Reverand Wright’s latest speech in front of the press corp and I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. This guy is so far “out there” and his words are so terribly ignorant that its wrong in all directions. This guy doesn’t even know the definition of “Liberation Theology” as his definition is so far off that he has no idea what the true definition is. This guy truly believes that he still lives amongts slaves and he talks like we still live 200 years ago. Obama is dangerous and more dangerous than ever now that I heard his preacher speak.
MIG, Jack Cafferty and Jamal Simmons have already made it all better. As long as CNN is around it never happened.
Please note Wright’s biggest accomplishment today.
But during his remarks, Wright also sought to put space between what he called “attacks” on the black church and possibilities for racial harmony.”The most recent attack on the black church, it is not an attack on Jeremiah Wright, it is an attack on the black church,” Wright said.
Wright has essentially included the entire black religious community under his cult. The black church is not a single homogeneous entity, but Wright would have us beleive he speaks for all black churches.
And no one in the media has touched it.
Listen folks, I grew up without a father? Should that mean that I need to abandon my kids? Should I have that mentality? NO… just because you’re around someone doesn’t mean that what’s in their heart and mind is in yours as well. Should someone growing up around the KKK continue to hate blacks and jews “just because”? NO.
heard the good rev. has a book to be released w/in a few months…..hhhmmmm….publicity stunt, that mansion sure would look better with a couple of nice cars in the front and a swimmin’ pool out back….

You can tell a whole lot about a person by observing who they CHOOSE to associate with.
Whatever!!!!!
The same way he try to distance himself by going to his church for 20 years….. Who cares what Obama say anymore!!!!!! He just want a free ride to the WHITEHOUSE!!!!! He wants free ride with the media, he don’t wont to talk about issue anymore, and now he don’t want to debate nobody!!!! He just looks for a FREE RIDE!!!!!!

I *KNEW* it. All this time you were boinking monkeys, not goats.
Obama refers to Wright as his former pastor implying he left him and that Wright didn’t retire.
People on the CNN blogs seem to think delegates can’t change their minds at convention. They also think these delegates are the electoral college. They get all excited about some endorsement and the person isn’t even a Super. And they call these educated voters?
Obama has the black and ultra left left and thats about it. No way can he win the general.
the popular vote doesn’t win the election. Its the electoral. Ask Al Gore. Big states with the most electoral went to Clinton. If FL could vote again she would win it. Red states will not go for OB. or Clinton.
Some people in the early states wouldn’t have voted for OB if they knew then what they know now.

GOOD STUFF ON HERE! Wright’s key point that Obama is a “politician” i.e. PHONY LIAR so that was a HUGE insult in my book that obama will say whatever he has to say………..gee, guess he’s NOT above it all, is he?
Why doesn’t Wright LEAVE this country & take his posse with him if it’s sooooooo awful? Does he ever say all the GOOOD things this country has done?!!! Gov’t should PROTECT this country (i.e. fight fanatics, etc), but was NOT designed for healtcare, daycare, doggie care, etc. etc…….just give our social security back & get the heck OUT of our lives!!!!!

I’m glad you said that because John McCain CHOSE to seek the endorsement of John Hagee and Rod Parsley, even going so far as to say Parsley is his spiritual advisor.
When I am having hard times, feeling down, problem with a family member, I go to my pastor, my congressman could care less about my personal issues. When I think my taxes are to high, gas is to high I contact my state congressman, my pastor prayers for me and with me. A pastor and politician have nothing in common, a pastor tries to build your faith and spirit in GOD, your congressman manages the states.

As a Floridian and Democrat, I will not vote for Obama, since he doesn’t think my vote is worth counting. The blue collar, Reagan Democrats will determine the outcome of this election; and they ain’t voting for Obama.
I just watched Olbermann and Howard Fineman on MSNBC openly discussing how BHO should have dumped Wright some time ago when they were first considering it. They were discussing in terms that implied it was just a matter of political expediancy. They were concerned only that because it was exposed to the great unwashed (American electorate) that, unfortunately, BHO had to perform damage control. No talk about the substance of Wright’s remarks and their repulsiveness. No talk about BHO’s character for being more worried about the political fallout than being interested in rejecting Wright because he’s a bigot and an anti-American hate monger. But, what would you expect from them…they aren’t offended by Wright’s remarks. They too are only concerned about how to “handle it” with the least harm to their candidate. Feel manipulated?

—————————-
He chose to seek out the endorsements of hundreds of conservative Christian preachers and he said nice stuff about each and every one of them. That’s called politics. It may not have been the smartest move on his part, but it doesn’t rise to anywhere near the level of BO’s “family” relationship with Wright.
He did not call Parsley *his* spiritual adviser, he called him *a* spiritual adviser.
Further, he did not CHOOSE to spend every Sunday sitting in a pew listening to Hagee or Parsley. Indeed, he has never set foot in either of their churches.
BO has CHOSEN to be a part of a church, for 20 years, that is led and ministered by a man who openly embraces and preaches black liberation theology.
McCain chose to hunt up some endorsements, and may or may not have been fully aware of the backgrounds of these men beforehand. BO brought his little girls into that snake pit Wright calls a church, week after week.
Would you bring your little kids into Wright’s church?

Ooh Ooh Ooh! I’ve been looking at Chang Jiangs for a couple years now. Got my build sheet all ready.
Rev Wright is a racist idiot, clearly.
I’m not strong enough to watch Olberman. My blood pressure goes up to high.
The left stream media doesn’t impress me at all. they lost me when they were gushing over Bill Clinton. They are now covering their butts for gushing over OB before he was vetted.
Well, heck they gushed over Gore and Kerry too. Where did that get them.
Islamists been grooming OB since he was a kid. To get him to be pres to take us down from the top.
When is Wright going to move into his mansion with his 10 million dollar credit line his suckers, paid for.? Into the rich white community he seems to hate so much. He’s just out for ego, power and money.
His and Obama Change we don’t want or need.

I will not vote for a 3RD TERM CLINTON EITHER, NOWAY NOWAY!!!!

Don’t even try to say you are a true republican bringing all that garbage. Vote for Obama in 08 and vote the rest republican.
So stop making the McSame old argument. You have nothing and will look like a fool voting for the wrong candidate in November

The Reverend Doctor Wright says that he is speaking for all Black Churches. I am suprised to hear what all those nice AME (African Methodist Episcopal) folks must be saying about US on sunday.
Obama Resign–
It takes anyone who has a brain and can think for themselves about two minutes to come to that conclusion. But there are some people that obviously STILL need heavy doses of Wright’s hate filled rants to come around.
In that regard, I’m glad he’s getting all this coverage because there is nothing that speaks louder than the raw unspun first hand experience of seeing this the man emanate racial hatred, anti-Americanism and just plain stupidity. At some point even his knee jerk defenders will stop trying to put lip stick on that pig and accept that he has sunk himself.
