Even George Bush realizes poor people need money now … why is it so hard for Obama to grasp when your struggling to put food on the table every little bit helps. Supporting the holiday should have been a no brainer … a perfect opportunity to unite for the common good … no one would have faulted him for doing it in an election year. But plenty of people will fault him for not doing it.

It’s time for everyone to face the truth. Barack Obama has no real chance of winning the national election in November at this time. His crushing defeat in Pennsylvania makes that fact crystal clear. His best, and only real chance of winning in November is on a ticket with Hillary Clinton as her VP.

Hillary Clinton seemed almost somber at her victory speech. As if part of her was hoping Obama could have defeated her. And proved he had some chance of winning against the republican attack machine, and their unlimited money, and resources. In all honesty. I felt some of that too.

But it is absolutely essential that the democrats take back the Whitehouse in November. America, and the American people are in a very desperate condition now. And the whole World has been doing all that they can to help keep us propped up.

Hillary Clinton say’s that the heat, and decisions in the Whitehouse are much tougher than the ones on the campaign trail. But I think Mr. Obama faces a test of whether he has what it takes to be a commander and chief by facing the difficult facts, and the truth before him. And by doing what is best for the American people by dropping out of the race, and offering his whole hearted assistance to Hillary Clinton to help her take back the Whitehouse for the American people, and the World.

Mr. Obama is a great speaker. And I am confident he can explain to the American people the need, and wisdom of such a personal sacrifice for them. It should be clear to everyone by now that Hillary Clinton is fighting her heart out for the American people. She has known for a long time that Mr. Obama can not win this November. You have to remember that the Clinton’s have won the Whitehouse twice before. They know what it takes.

If Mr. Obama fails his test of commander and chief we can only hope that Hillary Clinton can continue her heroic fight for the American people. And that she prevails. She will need all the continual support and help we can give her. She may fight like a superhuman. But she is only human.

Derek if all the money the gas tax made went into roads we would be driving on gold. Most of the gas tax goes into the general fund which means like social security there are a butt load of IOUs in it.

To be blunt, I trust Hillary’s judgement over Obama’s, and I don’t trust Hillary’s judgement as far as I could throw a Boeing 747.

In fact as the more of the real Obama that has been revealed, the less I trust him. I keep expecting another William Ayers or Rev. Wright to pop out of his closet. Least with Hillary we know her downsides.

Regardless of where the money goes, the effect of suspending the federal gas tax will not save consumers money; as I stated before, the market will eventually cause the price to equalize to the previous rate once cutting the tax spurs demand (which it will). Plus if consumers drive more due to cheaper gas, they may save money based on the price w/ tax if they drove that same amount, but in reality they are probably driving more than they would if the tax were in place; and if they increase their gas consumption by more than 5% (which is ~how much the 18.4¢ gas tax translates to) they will in fact spend more money in the long run.

The only ways to lower the price of gas is to a) decrease demand or b) increase supply, which the oil companies want to keep low by cutting refinery capacity because they can make more money by creating a bottleneck in the oil supply chain at the refinery stage:

The Gas Tax Holiday is a joke. Why don’t any of the candidates suggest we start drilling in our own country and building new refineries. Has anyone really looked into the cost of this? Seriously. There are bridges collapsing in this very country (and one in my town of Minneapolis). They need to be upgraded and updated and made safe again. This isn’t going to happen with gas tax holidays unless people are willing to pay taxes elsewhere.

It’s amazing how short our memory spans are in this country. Just eight months ago, in the middle of rush hour, a bridge collapsed. It wasn’t the weather or the weight of the vehicles and it wasn’t some barge going up the Mississippi. It was the maintenance of the bridge. Maintenance costs money. It’s irresponsible for anyone to be reasonably thinking of a gas tax holiday without actually suggesting where the money is going to come from.

Truckers are in Wash today.
Their high fuel costs gets filtered down to us at the grocery store. and all the stores. I mean really they don’t deliver the stuff for nothing.
We need relief now. Not some time next year if OB was pres and wants to “talk” about it.
They can make up the lost tax revenue by taking it from the general fund and quit all this pork barrel un-necceary spending.
Look to your states gas tax which is supposed to use it for highways and bridges. Have they stolen that money and given it to some other thing like bike paths, walking paths, and other stuff that isn’t necessary. Maybe they put it in the social program accounts. Fed tax goes to Fed highways. They just denied CO and gave a bunch of money to CA. It’s the DOT that alicates the funds and that depends on who has the most “juice”. It’s called politics.

I believe in the United States of America as a government of the people, by the people, for the people, whose just powers are derived from the consent of the governed; a democracy in a republic; a sovereign nation of many sovereign states; a perfect union, one and inseparable;established upon those principles of freedom, equality,justice and humanity for which American patriots sacrificed thier lives and fortunes.
I therefore believe it is my duty to my country to love it to support its constitution, to obey its law, to respect its flag, and to defend it against all enemies.
