100 years redux

The Democratic National Committee continues to use McCain’s ‘100 years in Iraq’ comments in it’s latest TV ad, as part it’s ongoing attempt to cast a potential McCain administration as third Bush term. To hammer home it’s point, McCain’s exchange with a New Hampshire townhall-goer is repeated twice in the ad which also showcases explosions and some of the more grim statistics from Iraq.

The dispute over McCain’s 100 years exchange has been ongoing for nearly five months: McCain is talking about a 100 year-plus peacetime troop presence while Democrats are construing the remarks to argue that the presumptive Republican nominee is in favor of 100 years of war. Since a number of media outlets called the Democrats out on distorting McCain’s words, Sens. Clinton, Obama and the DNC have backtracked a bit from much-criticized early language and now stick to stating that McCain endorses a 100-year occupation of Iraq (closer to the truth but still not completely accurate).

In this ad, the DNC takes the simple approach and tries the McCain’s words speak for themselves (albeit without the full context). Of course, the RNC was quick to put a statement Sunday calling the ad a “distortion.”

“Over the course of the next six months, we expect the DNC to wage a respectful and honest campaign, which means adhering to the law. Howard Dean and the DNC should immediately cease and desist from airing these advertisements. And if the DNC fails to act, both Senators Clinton and Obama should immediately call on them to do so,” the statement read.

The Democrats also claimed the president had manipulated intelligenceabout Iraqi weapons of mass destruction, and thus the premise of the war. But copies of the national Intelligence Estimate on which the president’s decision was based were provided to every Democratic senator who voted for or against it. The findings were confirmed by government intelligence agencies around the world, including those of France, Britain, Russia, and jordan. In other words, President Bush could not have manipulated the intelligence on which the vote was based and the war was actually authorized.

As a Republican, I can only say “its about time”. They should have put out an ad like this months ago. $5 billion wasted… for what? Our nation was attacked by Saudi terrorists, egged on by Saudi religious leaders, hiding and training in Afghanistan. So what did Wolfowitz and Pearle and the rest of the jew crew want us to do? Attack Iraq!!!!! What a bunch of morons. Thanks Cheney and Wolfy and Condi — you have totally wrecked the good name of the Republican party, and the true values that we used to stand for.

The object of war is to break an enemy’s will and destroy his capacity to fight. Therefore, a nation divided in wartime is a nation that invites its own defeat. Yet that is precisely how Americans are facing the global war that radical Islamists have declared on them.

See, I knew it.

OBAMA is just going to use this very efficient and dirty tactic to attack mccain.

If a LIE is repeated and repeated over and over and over again, it will be perceived as the TRUTH.

That’s your LOWDOWN messiah. Husssein Obama.

I am not a mccain supporter, but I do feel sorry for him.

Did I say $5 billion? Sorry. I meant 5 HUNDRED billion. $514 billion, 800 million as of today.
Sorry about the typo. I was distracted by a tv show I was watching. Some guy named horowitz was having his nose surgically removed from Karl Rove’s rear end.

First of all the “100 years” was taken out of context, I guess the DNC will do anything to attack McCain. The war was athorized by both Dems and Rep. President Bush couldn’t started the war by himself, so liberal please get some facts learn and stop your blaming game. anything that wrong with the Dems they will blame it all on President Bush, shame on you Dems and Coward Dean.

LIBERAL NO MORE,
Mccain is going to loose this one, I guaran-da^^n-tee. He will always be put onto the defensive when people talk about the “100 years in iraq” remark.

Do you think obama and his croonies cares about the context?

They are just going to repeat over and over and over again during his campaign rally.
Mccain will be slaughtered on this issue.

The only slim chance he has is to picked Romney as VP and starts talking about changing the economy. This iraq and the surge thing is really a lost cause for the republicans.

Just my 2 cents worth.

VOTE HILLARY!!

Dean keeps sending me e-mails quoting John McCain on the 100 year phrase…and asking for donations. There is no way I will contribute to the DNC this year. Anyone with any comon sense can see this is just a distortion of what John McCain said…it makes the Dems look stupid…and I’ve been a democrat all my life…but I guess this is all they’ve got. McCain should be able to shut him up if he gets the chance to debate him…

Mr. McCain,

Please don’t ask the NC repubs or any other group to stop their attack on BO.
He wants you to run a good clean campaign and says he does also but his actions are very clear.
Surprising in that he (BO), in his short time in politics, has much more baggage and skeletons than you.

McCain and the RNC really should let this argument go. There’s no way to win it. But I do love how the republicans are now yelling about context, when the anti-Obama argument is totally based on random out of context statements.. and most of them Obama himself didn’t even make.

But either way this is not an argument they can win because even in context.. it was a stupid comment by McCain.

On September 11,2001, war was brought to America’s shores by religious fanatics who regarded their innocent victimsas “infidels” President Bush warned Americans”not to expect one battle, but a lengthy campaign, unlike any other we have ever seen” This warning has been borne out. Four years after Pearl Harbor, the Axis powers had been defeated. Four years after 9-11the wae with Islamofascists was still raging in the middle east, and jihadists werelaunching attacks across rhe globe with no end in sight.

What “Big Dave,” and the rest of the idiots who think like him don’t get, is that it doesn’t matter if you don’t like McCain, I mean would you rather have the Obamination in the White House? I don’t think so. Also, as I am Jewish, his “jew crew” comment, kind of pissed me off.

There have been many consequences of the campaign to discredit the president and the war, some of which will not become apparent until the war is over. Others are already manifest. The decision to attack the morality of America’s war effort has dealt a severe blow to the American cause. It has undermined American unity in the face of the enemy, profoundly damaged the clarity with which the war is understood, and diminished American’s ability to defend themselves.

On and On…he is Islamic trying to dance in Christian clothes…because still in America you need to be a Christian to be elected…The problem is it is fake…starting with Wright and black liberation theology and ending with Odinga’s burning Christians alive.

Now the Dems are going to throw the race card around because it is too late to find another candidate and they need the black vote…so every comment against Obama will be racist…it is already happening and most the evidence against him hasn’t even hit main stream media yet.

This is going to backfire on the DNC. This WAS taken out of context.
And it’s so easy to refute.
This wasn’t a two hour speech or sermon. The next dozen words out of McCain’s mouth after the 100 years, was a full explanation. All it takes is two seconds in a response ad to show that this ad is a lie. Heck, even the people posting here don’t deny that.
So, when the voters that DON’T know the whole story find out the whole story, what do you think the result will be?
They will know how low the the DNC is. I’m glad the DNC is running this ad this early. It gives six months to bring out how despicable the Democrats are and that any other ad that the DNC puts out has no credibility.
Take it to bank that the RNC will make sure it gets refuted until the General. Another gift to McCain that keeps on given.
And the MSM will help on this one as they are all flabbergasted, too. They KNOW this ad is a lie. And now, so will everyone else.
Tim Russert had Dean on Meet the Press today, and even Russert was amazed that the DNC was going to put the election on the line with this ad.
Another nail in Democratic Presidential election (and down elections) coffin.
Who in the world appointed Howard Dean as the DNC chairman? The guy is a buffoon.
But, I like it.

Just because someone has a problem with Obama (especially when it comes to policy differences, and legitimate concerns about integrity), does not mean they are racist.

I find it interesting that you have to play the race card all the time when people question things like that, it’s a McCarthy style of deflecting criticism.

blacks have made great strides since mlk in economic parity. look at merrill lynch…black ceo o’neil just gots millions in a parachute retirement, which was forced because of the subprime mess they got into. 40 yrs ago 60% of blacks were atthe poverty level or below, and now that is at 20%.
and those african americans that excell at the american dream like condi rice and tiger woods, get dissed by da rev, what’s up with that? and yet da rev will take a million dollar home in a double gated white community, which sounds like he is living the american dream to the fullest. what hypocrisy.

The more Rev. Wright speaks without pre-written speeches or answers, the more damage he does to Obama. The more Obama has to answer questions he is not expecting, and does not have pre-written speeches for, the more damage he does to himself. The more Michelle speaks freely, the more damage she does to Barack. His electability is in serious decline because of this, and it will only get worse. Will the super-delegates realize this, or will they bow to their black membership, pledge to Obama, and suffer through another 4 years of NOT being in the White House. Hillary’s chances look good in 2012.

We can not support a 100 year peace keeping force as the military is currently structered.

Go to the below link for the entire article written by Keith Robert Lovejoy, Lieutenant Colonel, U.S. Army, a former Battalion Commander stationed in Bosnia.

http://stinet.dtic.mil/oai/oai?verb=getRecord&metadataPrefix=html&identifier=ADA414134

“The continued heavy use of military assets by the U.S. to fill this need is going to reach a breaking point in the near future, especially given the high OPTEMPO and constant refocusing of missions throughout the world. While the U.S. and NATO allies possess strong and capable military forces, the need for increased functions required for peacekeeping operations of today is stretching above and beyond their current capacity to perform them. An increased ability to perform additional CIVPOL type missions must be obtained.”
