Clinton Questions Obama’s Oil Company Claims
BLOOMINGTON, Ind — With the RNC and McCain campaign attacking Obama for flip-flopping on his support for a gas tax holiday today, his Democratic opponent hit him on a different energy front — saying he took more money from oil company executives than any other candidate last month.
Hillary Clinton’s attack focused on two separate Obama ads running in Hoosier Country that argue he’s more qualified to stand up to the special interests in Washington since he hasn’t taken money from lobbyists or political action committees.
“I know my opponent has run ads claiming that he does not take money from oil companies. Well, no one does. It’s illegal!” she said. “It’s been illegal for 100 years to take money from oil companies.”
“And then my opponent puts up an ad saying he doesn’t take money from oil company PACs. In March, he took more money from oil company executives than any candidate, Republican or Democrat.”
Sen Clinton also took umbrage at attacks Obama leveled at her on her own capacity to stand up to the oil companies. “Earlier today my opponent attacked me on energy issues. He claimed he would take on the special interests,” she said. “We’ve heard him say that before.”
“My late father used to say watch what they do, not what they say, and that actions speak louder than words. When it came time to stand up against the oil companies, to stand against Dick Cheney’s energy bill, my opponent voted for it and I voted against it.”
“So I think its important for you to know the facts,” she said.
Clinton spoke on the campus of Indiana University — likely a stronghold for Obama, given his support among younger, well educated voters. Under no illusions about her underdog status in this part of the state, Clinton told students “I know you have a tough decision to make. And I am well aware that on campuses like this, my opponent has a tremendous amount of support, and I respect that.”
“But I want you to think about this is a hiring decision,” she said. “Ask yourself who you would hire for the toughest job in the world. Because that is exactly what you are being asked to do on May 6th.”
Clinton will take the same argument to the urban Northwest of the state, another Obama stronghold with a high percentage of African Americans and proximity to Obama’s home city of Chicago. Aides say she’s making a concerted effort to demonstrate that she’s reaching out to every voter — even those who have so far snubbed her in the Democratic primaries.

WOW!!! A year ago Fox had negative news coverage against Hillary alot. Maybe because she was in the lead a year ago? Now that Obama has had the lead for the past weeks Fox has played every negative thing they think they found on Obama and when I say they think they found negative, Fox flips the story so it can be negative towards the guy. McCain has faults but they’re never displayed on the FAIR and BALANCE news channel of FOX. I use to admire the Fox news channel years ago when they fist started the network. It was the fresh and new look at news that we needed. Now they are tollaly conservative and to the right. Hannity should be taken off the air. Of course but he talks a great talk and he knows good and well that 95% of the public won’t bother to check his record to see if his actions match his words (which they very rarely do in Obama’s case). Furthermore, when someone actually does check it out and calls him on his BS he cries that he is being attacked and his supporters defend him against what he claims is an attack instead of providing information. As such…he can say whatever he wants and for the most part get away with it.

Some Basics on How the Democratic Party Arrived at its Current Nomination Process
Of primaries and presidential nominees
1. The end of winner-takes-all primaries:
The 1968 Democratic Party Convention in Chicago was extremely contentious. George McGovern narrowly lost the nomination to Hubert Humphrey, who in turn, narrowly lost the general election to Richard Nixon.
As a direct result, McGovern led a commission to change the Democratic National Party’s approach to allocating delegates elected in state contests. The Party adopted the McGovern commission recommendations, abandoned a winner takes all approach to the state contests, and permitted states to allocate delegates according to a variety of formulas, each chosen by state parties themselves.
The McGovern commission claimed the change would ensure greater representation of diverse voices in the nomination process. A more cynical take: by implementing this change, McGovern helped to ensure his nomination as the party’s nominee in 1972.
With McGovern as the 1972 nominee, the Democratic Party suffered a catastrophe. Richard Nixon won all but one state, Massachusetts. Nixon even won McGovern’s home state, South Dakota. Nixon’s 60.7% of the popular vote was the highest percentage ever won by a Republican candidate. Nixon won 521 electoral votes versus McGovern’s 17.
2. The introduction of “superdelegates”:
Whatever the intentions of the McGovern commission, the result was to create a process that made it more likely that the Democrat’s presidential nominee would be to the left of the party’s base and that meant being far to the left of most American voters.
Rather than return to the pre-Govern commission winner-takes-all approach, however, the party decided to introduce a different kind of check on its process. Balancing the legitimate concern of maintaining diversity of voice in state contests, the party introduced superdelegates, who were meant to block self-defeating nominees (e.g. McGovern, who simply never had a chance against Nixon). Note: this sort of check and balance system to produce good representation is what is used in the U.S. Constitution and individual state constitutions.
3. Who the “superdelegates” are:
Superdelegates are not elites or backroom bigshots. While they include elected officials, some who hold high state office, they also include a large number of rank-and-file Democrats who work on behalf of the Party to make sure that its infrastructure and daily operations remain in place between presidential election years.
This pool – elected officials and dedicated Party members – was thought to be able to add a pragmatic and somewhat broader or longer-term perspective to the nominating process. In short, the point of having superdelegates is to make sure that the party does not run nominees who are highly unlikely to win in the general election, or put slightly differently, to consider a candidate’s appeal to the broader voting population that participates in the general election.

MSNBC and CNN have been Obama’s headquaters since this campaign started 15 months ago. I have also watched Fox News because I want to have their perspective on the candidates. I can honestly say, that fox News has been tougher on Obama specially Hannity, but I also believe that someone in the media had to ask the tough questions about Obama that no one else wanted to ask.When they bash Obama they also bash Hillary so I think that Fox News has been more fair and balanced than the other news channels. There are many unknowns about Obama that many of us do not feel comfortable about. I think he is a good man, but he is not ready for the Presidency of our country.
