Obama’s mother Stanley Ann, though not a card carrying Communist, had romantic relationships with campus radicals and attended Communist functions at the University of HI. At one of those functions she met Obama Sr. who described himself as an “African revolutionary”. They married and after a short six month pregnancy Stanley Ann gave birth to Obama Jr.

Among them was Frank Davis. Frank Davis had, by this time, participated in violent acts against the “white establishment” and had written of his exploits for the Communist newspaper. Obama became Frank Davis’ shadow in Hawaii during these formative years of high school and shortly thereafter. At his knee Obama learned black radicalism, revolution and Communism. As Obama states in his book Dreams from my Father, Davis became a father figure and mentor.
