Hillary says Obama comments hurt Dem electability

Scranton, PA –Bitter-gate Day Three saw Sen. Clinton slam Sen. Obama’s comments from an electability angle today, arguing that her rival’s comments provide “ammunition” for Republicans to paint Democrats as “elitist” and “out of touch.”

“We are tired of having Republicans or frankly our own Democrats give any ammunition to Republicans because what happens then is Republicans take advantage of the situation so I think this is an important moment for Democrats,” Clinton told reporters after canvassing a Scranton neighborhood. “Democrats have reached out to me to say that we cant afford for people to believe that the Democratic party is elitist and out of touch because honestly how do we expect people to listen to us if we don’t hear them, and we don’t respect their values and their way of life.”

Clinton’s comments Sunday echo criticism leveled at Obama by Sen. Evan Bayh, who said yesterday that the remarks were a “potential political problem” that could haunt Democrats in the fall.

“Senator Obama is a good man and he is a very talented and gifted man. But I think his comments were elitist and divisive. And the Democratic party has been unfortunately viewed by many people over the last decades as being elitist and out of touch,” Clinton said. “I mean we have waged elections over that and you don’t have to think back too far to remember that good men running for president were viewed as elitist and out of touch with the values and the lives of millions of Americans. So I think this is a very significant concern that people have expressed.”

She also said she is still waiting for a comprehensive explanation for the remarks from Obama.

“What’s important about this is that Senator Obama has not owned up to what he said and taken accountability for it. You know first he said he was right and attacked me for raising his remarks and referencing them. Then he admitted he said what he said inartfuly. And now he has deeply apologized if he has offended anyone,” she said. “But what people are looking for is an explanation. You know, what does he really believe? How does he see the people here in this neighborhood, throughout Pennsylvania, Indiana, North Carolina, other places in our country? I think that’s what people are looking for, some explanation, and he has simply not provided one.”

One other highlight: Clinton lashed out at one reporter who asked her to name the last time she attended church or fired a gun since she has been stressing the importance of religion and gun ownership in lieu of the Obama comments.

“You know what, that is not, that is not a relavent question for this debate. I mean, you know, we can answer that some other time,” she said. “This is about what people feel is being said about them. And I went to church on Easter, I mean so, that is not what this about. This is about how people look at the Democratic party and Democratic party leadership.”

Be sure to read what Bernstien, a well-known writer, wrote about why Sen. Clinton is running for President.

It is under AC360 blog (CNN). Very interesting.

If you listen to the entire statement in context Obama was talking about voting…a verb…..why don’t they vote for me…he said it is not due to race but it is due to them not believing that we can change their economic condition…..they believe that they can vote on religion issues and gun laws….and win…but not economic issues…..did people listen to the entire thing??

Comment by Peter LeBlanc

That is not what he said! Listen to the entire comment….he was asked about rural votes not type of people….but why don’t they vote for him..is it because he is black…..he said no…..it is due to their belief that it will not make a difference..that the only thing they can vote on that will make a difference is religion and guns….listen to the entire thing people.

Comment by DCBill

I doubt if Obama’s comments will matter one iota. Hillary will probably win PA but not the slam dunk victory that was predicted as little as two weeks ago. Obama has narrowed the field and will walk away with even more delegates and retain the lead. The only thing hurting Barack Obama at the moment is Wright and the Ayres/Dorn (a marriage made in Hell). Hillary’s refusal to back off, even after major players is damaging the Democrats chances for winning the White House. If Hillary gets the nomination this will be viewed with suspicion by many and those who voted for Obama will be voting for McCain in November. Also, I would not be at all surprised if primary Hillary voters turn against her in November as well. The party leadership knows this and that is why many have endorsed Obama and many want Hillary to quit before she causes any more damage.

Like a broken washing machine stuck on spin cycle, this incompetent (yet “highly intelligent”) snoot is always trying to recast his blunders. “What I meant to say was …. ” staring loftily of into space, nose held high. His abhorrence of regular (meaning non radical far left) whites is palpable. There are deep clouds of doubt in his eyes when he speaks, as being false is a heavy burden. Every word passes through layers of editing … he stammers and pauses — and moves on to his mantra of CHANGE. Just a word. He charges Republicans of using the politics of fear because he himself is so afraid. Hell, he is simply afraid of his own democratic ‘constituency’ revolting against him before Hillary drops out.

There will be Bitterness

i would like to know what he meant by rural americans don’t like people that are not like them. Is he saying rural america are racist, or is it talking about people of other sexuality choices, or illegal immigrants, etc. What was meant by that comment?

None of the candidates are the total package for president. too bad they all couldn’t be combined.
Hillary actually has “Some” good ideals to help the average american, but she has polarized herself with congressman on both sides, she’ll never get anything done without being able to work with both sides. McCain without a dought is the most qualified to be the Commander in chief, and he has and can get votes from both sides of the isle, but needs to get better ideals to what average americans want. And Obama can be there to give the “i’m sorry” and “That’s not what I mean speeches” when things don’t work out. Can we start the process over and find someone else!

Be sure to read about the Rev. Jeremiah Wright’s comments yesterday when he thought he was behind closed doors at a funeral with no reporters watching him. First Obama, in a closed door fundraiser, now Jeremiah Wright at it againg, at a funeral of all places. It’s disgusting.

Patty from NJ your words are that of an insensitive ignoramus. Actually there are many who think Hillary is a lesbian but I never take rumors seriously. Factually I know she is a cold and calculating, obsessed with power, and that is what makes her so dangerous. As far as that husband of hers, his sexual exploits demonstrate his lack of judgment and he showed the entire world he is a liar and immoral pig. Not only that he is a coward.

Comment by Patty, NJ

Yes, well, I bet we can say the same about 90% of the men in the world. Who gives a sh*t. Stop being male pigs and get over your selves. I dont give a sh*t if Hillary is a lezbo or not. I dont care if Bill sleeps around. Who freakin cares??? You people live in glass house..but yet like to throw the biggest stones you can find. Go figure!!!

Yesterday, Clinton hit Obama for calling Pennsylvanians “bitter,” ground on which he fairly ably engaged.

Today, she’s onto the other half of his San Francisco remarks, in which he linked economic frustration to clinging to religion and guns (the part he sought to walk back this morning in Muncie, Ind.).

“Sen. Obama’s remarks are elitist, and they are out of touch,” Clinton said. “The people of faith I know don’t ‘cling to’ religion because they’re bitter. … I also disagree with Sen. Obama’s assertion that people in this country ‘cling to guns’ and have certain attitudes about immigration or trade simply out of frustration. People of all walks of life hunt — and they enjoy doing so because it’s an important part of their life, not because they are bitter.”

Now, this is more a general election wedge than a Democratic primary one, and Hillary Clinton may not be the world’s best messenger on the Second Amendment. But it’s a preview of things to come.

Full Clinton attack after the jump.

Clinton in Indianapolis:

“The people of faith I know don’t “cling to” religion because they’re bitter

People embrace faith not because they are materially poor, but because they are spiritually rich. Our faith is the faith of our parents and our grandparents. It is a fundamental expression of who we are and what we believe. ..”

This is just another of many comments that Obama has made that shows his true colors. He is trying to buy the election with all his Elite groups and Liberal bundling of money. I as middle suburban white would have been happy to vote for Obama if I felt he was the right choice. His judgement has now been questioned deeply with Wright,Ayers,Rezko. When you embrace those around you that are questionable it tells a lot about you. I hope the people will realize the true Obama is coming out and it is not a pretty picture. If you see his response in Indiana he uses anger and blame just like always to explain away. I don’t need someone to tell me how to think or how I should feel. Hillary and Bill has done more for the hard working people of this country and deserve respect for that. They have given more to Charity than anyone else in their tax bracket. Bill goes around the World for many charities and should be applauded not attacked. He has spent 8 years since leaving office to help people all around thee World and that is admirable for him to keep giving back. Hillary is our only hope in this election the stakes are to high to elect an arrogant, condascending jerk like Obama. We just had 8 years of arrogance and don’t need more. Hillary 08

Comment by pd

Don’t forget that the important parts of his comments were that small town people are racist and xenophobic because they don’t understand their economic conditions. It that’s not elitist and divisive, I don’t know what is. Enough with the limosine liberal crowd of the Kennedys, Kerry, and Obama. The Clintons came from nothing and made it to the top. There is absolutely nothing elitist about them; I don’t care how much money they make now.

I don`t care to much for Hillary Clinton, but she is right. This type of story could cause lasting damage, not just to Obama, but for the Deocratic party as a whole. If the voters think the party is elitest, then both come off looking bad. Which in fact they both are elitest. Bot in all reallity, main stream media will get out the big broom and sweep it all away. In Obamas case, his followers are starting to stumble from the Kool-Aide, and aren`t ever aware he is doing anything wrong. Blind drunk, and in a trance just waiting for election day. So it is kind of sad that Obama`s own words hurt Clinton, and the party, more than they hurt him. Great party you guys have.

I would love to see someone produce a television commerical which shows the distinction of both Obama and McCain at 17 years of age. First they show McCain in Annapolis at the Academy and then they flash over to Obama doing drugs at 17 because this is just what happened. Integrity versus a low, grade hippy conman.

I had read about what he said, but I just actually HEARD him saying it. “Dem rednecks down there, dey’s only gonna vote on dems guns and gay marriages and stuff dat’s close to home fo’ dems” Excellent candor and so eloquently put. Good way to ostracize 40% - 50% of all Americans. I’m from a very up-scale small town–one that is pre-dominantly pro-Obama–but even I and many of my friends took offense. He lost some votes with that comment…

pictures I’ve seen of obama - he looks bitter that he is having to explain his remarks. He obviously is not use to having to try to explain about statements or any other remarks he’s made and why should he have to explain to people who tote guns and pray to god in a church that preaches gods word not hate to white people, but then again, I’m just a TYPICAL white person.

GO HILLARY!!
IF this situation were reversed - the Obama group would never, never let it go.
You were great at the Press Meeting in Scranton - Reporters asked some very difficult questions and you answered in a knowledgable presidential manner. Obama cannot seem to answer questions without a prepared politically correct speech.
His next big problem is Uncle Rev. Wright - he will not go away - he does not want to - he will keep up his radical preaching until we all fall in line and believe his teachings.
Ranting at a Funeral - Talk about out of touch - funeral - giving a sermon about the dead - talk about respect !!
Thank you FOX & ABC News for bringing us the FACTS - MSNBC & CNN - only report good things on obama - guess they will have a slow week!

Here she goes again with another lie….Obama has own up to what he said but she has not own up to voting for the Iraq war yet adn it was bad judgment…

Sen. Barack Obama said yesterday that he regrets his choice of words when he recently described economically distressed Americans as people who are “bitter” and who “cling to guns or religion.”

But he defended the underlying content of his remarks, which were the subject of blistering attacks yesterday from Sen. Hillary Clinton’s campaign.

HOOVER AND EISENHOWER

Here is something that should be of great interest for you to pass around.
I didn’t know of this until it was pointed out to me. But, back during the Great Depression, President Herbert Hoover ordered the deportation of all illegal aliens in order to make jobs available to American citizens that desperately needed work.

And then again in 1954, President Dwight Eisenhower deported 13 million Mexican nationals! The program was called ‘Operation Wetback’ so that American WWII and Korean veterans had a better chance at jobs. It took 2 years, but they deported them!

Now, if they could deport the illegal back then, they can sure do it today!! If you have doubts about the veracity of this information, enter Operation Wetback into your favorite search engine and confirm it for your self.

Reminder. Don’t forget to pay your taxes… 50 million illegal aliens are depending on you!

Share this reminder with other Americans

Give it up Hillary. I for one was not offened by Barack’s comment. People are bitter, but not just in PA….jobs are lost overseas everyday, price of oil & gas is out of this world, all other prices are up due to fuel prices, the housing market is horrilble people are losing their homes at record speed. How could you not be bitter. People can’t get ahead. I know I am not any better off, even though I now have a better job than I did 4 years ago I pay out way more in gas to commute because it is over an hour drive. Am I bitter…………..you betcha! I am Hiltary R Clinton; I made $109 million dollars from my file tax return. So i am not ELITE or maybe I am. It all depends on what’s the definition of word, let see what is:

This is about how people look at the Democratic party and Democratic party leadership”

This is exactly the point I have been making about the democratic leadership for weeks or I should say lack of Leadership.

Those who say Hillary supporters will turn on her…then you really don’t understand her supporters. The media has all but counted her out many times. I for one beleive the fix is in for Obama…so if tears down the party then so be it.. It is thier lack of leadership that did not Vet him before they jumped on the bandwagaon, maybe they should have left thier finger in the wind alittle longer.

I have been reading on the Fox blog for awhile and have come to respect bloggers that debate the Liberal Democratic views..and I have learned alot.but when they get down in thw cutter to attack Hillary for Bill Clinton it leaves me saddened , I guess like I do with my TV control …just switch channels…I will just use my page down..to avoid these names and just look for informative posts.

Hillary is a christian, and was a memeber of a conservative bible study group when she was first lady. She is strong leader and I for one am proud to be one of her supports. I am also an American and proud of the service and sacrifice of John McCain, an American Hero. You will never hear me say a word against him. Barack Heussn Obama hasn’t said or none anything to make me even like him much less me proud of him.

I voted for Hilalry Clinton because I am a woman… and I will defend her.

Go Hillary…A voice for the middle class of the Democratic Party

It doesn’t matter the last time Clinton went to church or fired a gun. Both those items are rights afforded by the US Constitution. It is up to her and her alone to decide what is right for her!
What matters is the voters all have those same rights.
Mr. Obama crossed the line when he said “cling” to guns and religion.
You bet your butt we do cling to guns and religion. Your resoning is wrong Mr. Obama. We are not bitter. Just the opposite. Our religion gives us guidance to do the right thing and to choose leaders with good character. The guns insure we keep those rights!
We don’t work for Obama. He, as a Senator works for us! How dare he be so condescending to any American, city or small town.
Americans are not bitter. In general we are pretty cool people.
Obama chooses to surround himself with bitter people. he should look at the people outside his closed circle.

The Democratic National Committee is planning to file suit against the Federal Election Commission Monday in an effort to compel it to investigate Senator John McCain’s withdrawal from the public financing system for the primary.Mr. McCain had applied for public financing for the primary for his campaign when his campaign was struggling but he decided to bypass the system after his fundraising improved. One argument, is a $4 million loan Mr. McCain secured last fall to keep his campaign afloat. This what I found always so hypocrital of Rep camapaign, questions to Obama if he recants his pledge (which is not a committment) and doing something similair. On Rep. view its also strange since should be happy with less government interference of campaign, but if campaign is less successful they use it, and slamm others for not ? using it. Its the world upside down.

Obama supporters need to really concentrate on who his running mate will be. Normally it wouldn`t make much difference, but this isn`t a normal year. If you are black and Obama has a white running mate, you dream of a give me more money President, might not come true. Obama, with his transparent endorsement from MSM, could very well win the election. There could, however, be some crazy person out there clinging to his gun to tight, and just waiting for the ballots to be counted. Before you start calling me a sick racist, let me say, I don`t want anyone to get killed, and this is always a possible threat for any President, white or black. I hope I`m wrong, but if you are already a contraversial figure, then you start insulting gun lovers, it`s like trying to pet the pit bull when the owner said not to.

Comment by Jo Anne

We should start calling for Obama to step down! he can’t win the general election and he is a draw now on the Democratc Party.
If the Dems want to salvage any hope of winning in November they should choose wisely.
They should be praising Clinton for staying in and not getting stuck with an Anti-American Obama! He learned more than he admits from Wright! He just chose alternate words, same meaning.
Clinton is owed an apology from the DNC!
Thank goodnes she’s tough and stayed in.
The November general election will bring Obama less than half the Democrats, some of the Independents and none of the Republicans!
Clinton supporters will never support Obama. They can’t even say why without being attacked. We voters have very serious concerns, but are instantly called a racist if we bring them up!
Not one reporter in Mainstream media has had the nerve to even whisper the name Odinga, or bring up the fact Obama campaigned for his cousin in Kenya. Christians were burned alive in that election.
Nobody can attack them when they get alone in that voting booth.
Obama’s enforcers and media moguls won’t be there!

Ari.
McCain was going to accept public financing. So was Obama.
We should investigate why he changed his mind as well.

Comment by RJ

Not bitter about not having health care, or seeing your job shipped overseas, or having your home foreclosed on?

Sounds to me the only folks who wouldn’t be bitter would have to be elitists themselves.

Just for comparison:
John McCain: Net worth $44 million, owns 8 houses

Hillary and Bill: $109 million since 2000, Hillary’s “blue collar” Scranton roots actually a summer vacation home.

Barack Obama: Best year $1.6 million in 2005, doesn’t even make the list of 50 richest in Congress, graduated from Harvard Law and took a job organizing unemployed steel workers for about $8,000/yr.

So who exactly is the bigger “elitist”?

Comment by ari

Problem with candidates is that they should make a coherent policy program, now its more like a ad-hoc approach, and make speeches and flip-flops. At least there would be more consistency if they print one, instead of improvitianal changes and statements. Confusing.

On the November 27, 2007, edition of PBS’ Charlie Rose, McCain was asked by Rose if South Korea “is an analogy of where Iraq might be … in terms of an American presence over the next, say, 20, 25 years, that we will have a significant amount of troops there.” McCain replied, “I don’t think so.” Rose then asked: “Even if there are no casualties?” McCain replied, “No.

By contrast, during a January 3 town hall meeting in Derry, New Hampshire, a participant said to McCain: “President Bush has talked about our staying in Iraq for 50 years — ” and McCain interjected: “Maybe a hundred. We’ve been in South Korea; we’ve been in Japan for 60 years. We’ve been in South Korea for 50 years or so. That’d be fine with me as long as Americans — as long as Americans are not being injured or harmed or wounded or killed, then it’s fine with me

Obama made a pledge, entitled to change your mind. Probably campaign surprised by success of contributions. Its something else if using it for collatoral (if thats is the case), because your campaign was almost broke.

Comment by One Nation Under God Clinging

The “bitter” remark wasn’t the stab, it was the “cling to their religion” which was highly offensive to people of great faith. This “faith” and yes, our Right to Bear arms- built this nation. One nation under God…clinging?!?! Obama is not President material.

Obama and his camp will continue to spin their way out of it, although I suspect the public is getting tired of it. I’m really, really sick of the way Obama gets away with phrases like ‘typical white person’ and anyone who dares to protest is called a racist! The shine is finally wearing off the media’s golden demi-god and I am so glad!

I hate Dick Morris!

Apparently a lot of McCain people on this blog. That’s okay. But let’s at least talk fairly about each candidate. Sen. Clinton is busy playing her “kitchen sink” strategy again since we are close to the Tuesday, April 22nd election date. That is her style. If it hadn’t been for Obama using the word “bitter” I am not sure she would have had much to throw at him this time.

Obama is definitely not an elitist, no matter how much people try to peg him into that spot. He comes across as arrogant at times, but I think the same of B Clinton and McCain. Obama did tell the truth, but the truth hurts, so we find excuses. I understand that. But we really do need to think about the truth more. When the Clintons and Obama visited the small towns, the people shared their problems with them. They expressed their frustrations because of closed factories, etc. Sen. Clinton even retold one of the stories (partly true anyway). Now she is saying that these people aren’t frustrated? Did they all get jobs and health insurance over the weekend? They are all happy and smiling and displaying their “I am not bitter” stickers? I call that a definite flip-flop.

McCain is having difficulty putting an economic plan together, Clinton is struggling with Bosnia yet, and Obama has some residual with Wright. None are perfect. To get a clearer picture though of why the Clintons want the White House back, there is interesting reading on AC360 (CNN) blog. It is written by Bernstein. Very insightful.

CNN GAVE THIS PIECE OR WORK THEIR BLOGGING FORMAT TO RUN DOWN THE FUTURE

PRESIDENT OF AMERICA HILLARY R. CLINTON…. HE TRULY DESERVES THE DICKHEAD AWARD

OF THE DAY!

YOU, Carl Bernstein are a pompous ass and your obvious contempt

of our future president Hillary R. Clinton is very offensive…

I would surmise that you are Obama man, you know the kind that gets weak in the knees when

you see him or even when you talk about him….

America need a leader who is strong, who knows how to work with people,

who sometimes makes some mistakes in choosing personnel; but who

hasn’t, we when we hire personnel can not look into the souls of people.

Except for you Bernstein and that Dickhead Morris your evil spirits blackens you body.

Until the underbelly like yours that is currently being exposed on CNN,

CNN enables you and all of Hillary R. Clinton haters, free reign to demonize her

without inpunity.

While CNN at the same time will not permit pro-Hillary intellectuals to address her qualities,

abilities and many of her solutions she has demonstrated over her career.

You, Carl Bernstein belong to the same ugly club as Dickhead Morris, both

of your misogynist fangs stick out of your heads, whenever you try to

pretend that you have any idea about Hillary Rodham Clinton which you don’t and thus

you spew your hatred…

Your Carl Bernstein and Dickhead Morris are two BITTER people in the true

sense of the word; and we all understand that lecture of JUST WORDS.

BITTER: Marked by strong resentment or cynicism ; that is what we

hear from you and Dickhead whenever your venom pours from your

tongues .
I WILL ASK ALL BLOGGERS TO BOYCOTT YOUR BOOK ON
CLINTON

THE ONLY TRUTH ABOUT YOUR BOOK IS THE TITLE
“A Woman in Charge”

And she WILL BE IN CHARGE on the first day of her Presidency…

Obama is trying to spin his way out of this and we can’t let him off the hook on this. We must keep pointing out where he made these comments (in San Fran, not rural America). What he said after the bitter comments are the most important parts. People in economically downtrodden small towns only turn to religion because they don’t understand their economic problem. They grab guns and are racists and xenophobic because they don’t understand their problems. He is an elitist; the Clintons are not. They came from very little and what they have now they worked for and earned!! I say good for them! We all hope to be able to do so. Only an elitist who has been given a pass every step of the way, doesn’t understand that.

Obama’s puzzle is being put together piece by piece…

Rezco, Rezco contributions, Anti-America racist Rev. Wright, Racist church, Louis Farrakhan,

Terrorist and friend William Ayers and Dorn, The New Black Panther Party, Al Sharpton

Anti-American wife who thinks our country is mean.

Small towns are anti-immigrant, gun clinging, religion clinging bitter people.

Kids could fugure out this puzzle that is Obama.

Is it just me, or is there anyone else out there who finds it ironic that Clinton keeps saying this will hurt the Democratic Party, but keeps on bringing it up over and over again. If she “REALLY” cares about the Democratic party, wouldn’t you think she would get it out of her stump speeches?

Perhaps Madam Hillary (named after the mighty “Sir” Edmund Hillary) should think about the Party more than her own aspirations if this is the case.
