McCain Urges Obama to Accept Public Funds - Keeps Door Open to Opt Out
John McCain today said he was “entertained” that Barack Obama is flirting with the idea of opting out of public financing should he win the Democratic nomination. “He didn’t talk about having discussions about third parties and all that when he committed to saying that he would take public financing if the Republican nominee did. I am the presumptive Republican nominee. I will take public financing. Keep your word to the American people. He’s always talking in his speeches about how we need to keep our word to the American people. Please keep your word to the American people on the commitment you made in writing,” McCain said forcefully, adding later that Obama had flip-flopped on the issue.
McCain was referring to the pledge the two candidates signed and submitted to the Federal Elections Commission last March, that would limit their funds to $85 million as general election candidates. But at a fundraiser the Tuesday night in Washington, DC, Obama referred to a “parallel public financing system” and called the current system “creaky” today at a press avail.
If Obama continues his record shattering fundraising prowess, McCain would face a huge financial handicap in the general election, which is why should Obama go forward and reject public funds, McCain admitted he would have to examine his options. “It is possible that I still will [accept public funds] and it’s possible that I won’t.” How will he decide? “Actually, a little straight talk, how we most benefit. I mean, you know, really how it is most beneficial to us,” McCain told reporters today.
Watch some of his comments from his Dallas press conference here:
done
When asked if he agreed with Obama’s assessment that the current system is “creaky” and needs to be reformed, McCain shot back, “I have a record on reform, Senator Obama has rhetoric on reform. But I think it needs further reform and I’d be glad to join him in efforts to reform, but that doesn’t change the fact that he committed, a year ago, to public financing if I would.”

My obsession rages on…
Throughout this election, it has become my obsession to say as many negative things about Mike Huckabee as my imagination can come up with. My vehement hatred for the man all stems from one question that he casually posed to a NY Times reporter (who claimed to know a lot about Mormonism) about whether or not Mormons believe that Jesus and Lucifer were brothers. As a Mormon, I do believe that Jesus and Lucifer were brothers. However, my bishop (at the ward I attend) instructs us to conceal such ‘deeper doctrines’ because people outside of the LDS Church just don’t understand such truths, and their unwillingness to accept them only jeopardizes our attempts to market ourselves as a Christian religion. In any event, I will go on hating Huckabee for a million eternities, because I am so insecure in my own faith that I have no other choice but to hate him with a demonic passion. Instead, as a temple-worthy Mormon (complete with magic underpants), I support wholeheartedly and without reservation my fellow cult member, Mitt Romney. If only he were elected President (or at least Vice President) then maybe my false religion would gain some credibility and people would no longer think us as a cult. Of course, you bozos in Eldorado, Texas are complicating matters greatly by actually following the teachings of our founder/prophet, Joseph Smith. Us mainline Mormons are smart enough to hide the less attractive aspects of our religion (such as polygamy, our aspirations to godhood, secret temple ceremonies including the handshake that gets you into heaven, magic underwear, etc.) instead of flaunting them like this splinter group of Mormons in Texas.
All Mormons (and others of equally deficient IQs), I would encourage you to follow my lead…
Say it with me…
HUCAKBEE IS THE DEVIL; ROMNEY IS GOD…HUCAKBEE IS THE DEVIL; ROMNEY IS GOD…HUCAKBEE IS THE DEVIL; ROMNEY IS GOD…HUCAKBEE IS THE DEVIL; ROMNEY IS GOD…HUCAKBEE IS THE DEVIL; ROMNEY IS GOD…HUCAKBEE IS THE DEVIL; ROMNEY IS GOD…
The more often you repeat this mantra (as is the case when you bear your testimony as a Mormon), the more convinced you will become of its truthfulness. Say it a few times and see if, you too, do not get a burning feeling in your bosom to verify its validity.
This is why Obama really stands out.

wink wink.
Sure thing, big guy!
I am just going to enjoy this nano-second of silence until the blog spammers take over.
You Republicans should stop whining about the Dems. having more cash. what good did it do you? The shoe is on the other foot until you can nominate a brain dead, born again, war mongering mouth-breather who espouses all of those great thing you all stand for. As for now don’t worry, you always have you ace in the hole. SWIFT BOATING. Do you find it confusing to be supporting a candidate in 2008 that you Swift Boated in 2004. Yep, it was just 4 short years ago that the Bush/Cheney crew spread the word in S.C. that McCain had fathered a Black child. It was just a few months ago that the same Swift Boaters through Huckaby put out the scoop that McCain had ratted out his Fellow POWs.
Now don’t you feel better, you guys have still got it.
Obama lies again! Says one thing and does another. Has he explained why Michelle asked for more “white people” to stand behind her when she was giving her speech yesterday? She must think white people are like trophies to the campaign. Is she racist or what?

So you are saying that McCain is NOT Chris Rock’s dad. Do I have that right?
And we all Know George Soro and MoveOn.org are innocnt lambs.
No, i’m not saying that. I’ll have to admit there’s some resemblance, but I just find it hard to believe that Chris Rock wouldn’t have worked it into his act by now.

Good point. I noticed that too
So you liked McCain or Kerry in 2004?
I read the article about Michele Obama campaign removing some black people from behind where she would be speaking and they ask for more white people to be placed behind the podium.
Michelle Obama is so racist, it’s a wonder she could stand all those white people behind her.
….And you white people think Obama is different.

Clinton Picks Up Three Superdelegates
By Julie Bosman
PITTSBURGH – Three superdelegates in 36 hours.
That was the good news from Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton’s campaign on Thursday, a rare string of endorsements for a candidate who has watched one superdelegate after another pledge their support to Senator Barack Obama.
Her campaign was gleeful over two superdelegate endorsements on Thursday, as Mrs. Clinton arrived in Pennsylvania for a full day of campaigning.
Sophie Masloff, a former mayor of Pittsburgh, will endorse Mrs. Clinton Thursday night at a dinner for Allegheny County Democrats.
PASS IT ON….
I’m passing it on JUST READ ALSO WHERE OBAMA INSULTED ALL THE SMALL TOWNS IN PA.
Quote:
Obama’s remarks at a San Francisco fundraiser Sunday, … include an attempt to explain the resentment in small-town Pennsylvania that won’t be appreciated by some of the people whose votes Obama’s seeking:
You go into these small towns in Pennsylvania and, like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing’s replaced them…And they fell through the Clinton administration, and the Bush administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are gonna regenerate and they have not.
And it’s not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.
Comment from writer: That’s a pretty broad list of things to explain with job loss.
Obama’s Dubious Affiliations
There is no way a white man with the same background and credentials as Obama could ever be elected to any office in this country.
Look at Obama’s affiliations:
- Mr. Rezko is Obama’s long time friend and is a major mob figure.
- Mr. Auchi is a billionaire and major financial sponsor for Obama’s rise to power throughout the past years.
While working with Saddam Hussein, Auchi made his money through the sell of arms in Iraq and by stealing money from the Oil for Food program (no wonder Obama voted against invading Iraq)
- Senator Meeks who openly hates whites and gays and is listed on Obama’s campaign website as a major Obama supporter and backer and is one of Obama;s super-delegate. Mr. Meeks has been integral in helping Mr. Obama succeed in politics.
- Mr. Wright is a racist who hates America and whites with a Hitleresque approach to world affairs. Mr. Wright has been Mr. Obama’s spiritual mentor for over 20 years. Before the media exposed Mr. Wright, Mr. Wright was on Obama’s campaign staff as Obama’s chief religious advisor. Mr. Wright and Mr. Meeks are ideologically closer to Karl Marx and Black Nationalism, than to Christianity.
- Mr. Ayers of the Weather Underground, a group that killed police and tried to bomb the US Capitol, served with Obama on the board of the leftist foundation called the Woods Fund.
- Larry Sinclair claims to have taken crack cocaine with Obama and to have performed oral sex for Obama twice in 1999. Larry is willing to testify in court concerning these allegations.
- Mr. McPeaks is Obama’s military adviser and national campaign co-chairman who claims that American Jews are the “problem.” and “Christian Zionists were driving America’s policy in Iraq to benefit Israel.”
- Michelle Obama trumpets Obama as “the second coming of the messiah,” and also states that she “has never been proud to be an AMERICAN in her adult life”.
The list goes on…
How can Obama’s bad judgment to choose to affiliate with criminals and fanatics be justified?
Had Hillary Clinton had any of the above ghosts in her closet, she would have been thrown out of the election long ago.
Hey everybody - am I missing something here?
It seems to me that perhaps instead of electing Obama president, it would be easier if we just shot ourselves in our collective foot.
I’ve alway vote Dem. This will be the first year I don’t
If you take that as an isult well then those small towns need to adjust there education programs. He says the obvious but you Hillary and McCain supporters are so brain washed. They tell you why your family is hurting or struggling and blame it on someone else. You all pick up on it and go along with it. But when the truth smacks you in the face you are insulted???!! I suppose everyone is going to be in an uproar when he says to turn off your TV and read your child a book or just be involved with your kid. Know what they are doing who they are hanging around. Build a relationship with them. Then again Hillary and Johnny boy will brain wash your kids to blame someone else. Blame it on the cable network….. Well you have been empowered to control that with the parental control but majority of American’s are too busy for that kid/teenager.
Don’t blame a guy for pointing out the obvious. Struggling communities have been taught to blame someone else rather than owning up and taking control of the situation. Then they cry foul because there community gets destroyed because no one had the balls to stand up and say we have had enough. You all hope someone (gov’t) will step in and take care of the situation. Grow up and take responsibilities for your community and your kids. Stop blaming everyone else for your failures!!!

I believe today marks the first day in which McCain psychologically picked who he believes he wants the Democratic nominee to be in November. Obama, with his “FOOT IN THE MOUTH DISEASE” each and every time he speaks, is evidence that McCain knows that he’s very beatable. Obama can now be likened to an old, beat up car which is driving down the highway, first with the two doors falling off, the next day with the bumpers falling off, and the day after with his muffler falling off…..each part equivalent to his campaign which is falling apart in front of America’s eyes….. one piece at a time, piece by piece. Apparently Obama cannot handle the heat anymore and he’s starting to crack under pressure and he certainly didn’t expect it to be so difficult because this is the first time in Obama’s life that he has been challenged by two tuff opponents. I truly believe that McCain believes that Obama is the easier of the two candidates to beat in November and only two months ago……..NO WAY……but now this campaign is a horse of a different color. GO OBAMA…..KEEP TALKING AND KEEP FALLING APART, ONE PIECE AT A TIME!
Obama is again backing out of a commitment. This is not a man that can be trusted. Just how many of his campaign promises will he back out of? Oh Wait, he has no campaign promises. All we hear is “change”. That’s is what America is afraid of. He is losing his grip on the nomination and if by some miracle he gets the nomination then McCain with all his honesty will run him out of town.
All it is going to take is one serious debate with McCain and Obama will fall apart. As you know he does take the hard and gripping interviews like the View. The biggest issue facing this country is how sexy and good looking the man is. Under fire he has proven to be a sad wimp. But of course all the Obama supporters will say it is ok to back down from something he strongly believed in prior to raising all that money. If he had any backbone at all he would follow suit and take public funding.
Make Iran glow….your kidding right? McCain and the repubs are confronting obama now for a reason. They know keeping Hillary in the game now is vital to their fractured conservative base. If you believe faux news is relentlessly reporting the anti-obama crap now, before the dem nomination is settled because he’s the one that’s unelectable, your naive. Not only was Hillary expecting a coronation, the repubs were counting on it. The only thing that will unite the conservatives is Hillary clinton.

Truth,
You can say that again. This will be a very entertaining general election if Obama gets the nomination. I wonder if Michelle Obama will no longer be proud of this country when Obama loses.

Well at least we won’t have t worry about him running again. Michelle has said we only get this one time to vote for him.
Think of it again because I want everyone to vote for Clinton. Her momentum would be kept for a lifetime than Obama’s will. Even though she lost for the Hawaiians last time, I think she would get better as did winning in the states of Texas and Ohio.

Sometimes I wonder how gullible we are. We always believe those who run for the presidency do it for Noble reasons, to better the country, to give back to the country that gave them so much, patriotic duty. Is it possible that the day will come when someone runs for a sinister reason?

If Obama is effectively reducing his own chances, then why are some of the conservative media so hell bent on destroying him now, if their so sure he’ll lose the GE with painting him as an anti-american racist? Fox news & conservative radio are constantly talking about the rev. wright fiasco, it’s completely obvious the strategy behind it. Hell, fox news is using Bush’s brain (karl Rove)as a strategist for gods sake!
This really hurts because I was the biggest Obama supporter out there in Scranton. I have donated about $2000 to the Obama campaign that I now wish I could have back. Ok, I let the comment about your grandmother slide, I saw your perspective. But this comment is too much. Religion is a symptom of a despondent, depressed America? Does Obama think he is Karl Marx? Say it isn’t so, really, say it isn’t so. I don’t believe a word you say anymore, and I will be e-mailing Mr Axelrod for a refund tonight.
Let’s try and do something besides being a bunch of sheep led around whatever trivia the press wants us to pay attention to.
Let’s try and get govt and academia to cut ties with Bush & Dick and their neocon cronies so they leave very little stink of their legacy behind.
I know Doug Feith is teaching in the school of foreign service at Georgetown now–and he doesn’t even have a degree in foreign service, he went to law school there.

Soon Obama will be calling John McCain bitter because Obama gave his word about public
financing and now he wants to opt out!
They had an agreement and now Obama has already broken a campaign promise, imagine if he
wins the presidency. Obama is not an honorable man.

SrKathleen,
How typically LIBERAL of you. Stifling a persons views in a supposed seat of higher learning.
How typical of a lefty who can invite any anti-American they can find to lecture at this, “seat of exchanging ideas”, yet protest anyone that may come with opposing views of the Socialist/Communist views of Americas Academia. Ahh..the “open mindedness” of the liberal thought processes. Then you speak of U of C Berkeley!!??…Is there a more anti-American college in America?
Come on, even bastions of anti-America Socialist/Communist thought like the U of W in Madison look up in admiration and look to guidance to Berkeley for anti-American views.
I started out as a supporter of either candidate for the democratic party but have recently begun to realize that Obama has no substance at all. This man does not respect the people. His smooth “tell them what they want to hear” talk was all we heard in the beginning but gradually it is seeping in that there is more to this man than I wanted to know and it is NOT good. He IS an arrogant, know it all who thinks that he is god’s gift to the world. Making fun of why we love God? How dare you talk about this country this way. You may have been going to church but obviously the only message you heard was Wright’s that America is a bad country and all white people are racist. The rest of the world was there to listen to God’s word and maybe you would have benefited from hearing that instead of the hate message right preached. Hillary in 08′
