Obama Campaign: “McCain Is Not A Warmonger”

Yesterday evening, Senator Barack Obama dropped by a fundraiser for North Dakota Democrats. The campaign arranged with the state party to allow a print pool reporter to accompany the senator, but no cameras were allowed, which has been typical at fundraisers (usually the events are not equipped to handle cameras, which require lights, a sound system, and risers).

The New York Times reporter who went to the fundraiser sent out his “pool report” following the event, which included the following paragraph: “Radio talk show star Ed Schultz warmed up the crowd, attacking Sen. John McCain as ‘a warmonger,’ before Obama arrived in the room. Obama thanked Schultz, saying he was he ‘voice of progressive radio.’” The print pooler later said Schultz was talking as he was ushered into the event, and there is no audio recording of Schultz’s remarks.

The McCain campaign picked up on the story and quickly asked Senator Obama to condemn Schultz, but while Obama mentioned McCain at his rally in Missoula, Montana, this morning, he remained mum on Schultz. “[McCain] is basically running for a third Bush term. He wants to continue this war in Iraq maybe for another 100 years. He wants to perpetuate the same tax breaks for the wealthy that he himself called irresponsible when George Bush first passed them,” Obama told the crowd.

Both the McCain campaign and the RNC took note of Obama’s silence. RNC spokeswoman Amber Wilkerson said, “Once again today, Barack Obama ditched his ‘new brand of politics’ and resorted to launching misleading and disproven attacks against John McCain. Instead of showing leadership and renouncing the slanderous remarks made by his surrogates or his national party chairman, Obama continues to try and deceive the American people with dishonest attacks.”

After numerous inquiries from Obama’s traveling press, the Obama campaign eventually responded with a comment. “John McCain is not a warmonger and should not be described as such. He’s a supporter of a war that Senator Obama believes should have never been authorized and never been waged,” traveling press secretary Jen Psaki said in a written statement.

The campaign also pointed out that Obama did not hear the comment and stressed that Schultz is not an Obama surrogate.

“Warmonger” Mc, Cain hates war??? He said he will be in Iraq, 100 YEARS , how much more time would he be there if he did like war? Republicans don’t like wars, were no richness on those countries are involve (Oil, Mines, Diamonds ,ETc) if a region is poor and miserable and there is dead and desolation, they don’t care about it, at all!! AND THEY PROCLAIM THEY ARE THE PARADIGM OF CHRISTIANITY!!! ( THE CONSIDER THEMSELVES THE BEST CHRISTIANS IN THIS WORLD. Christians should preserve life at any cost, And REPUBLICANS, are producing, KILLING FIELDS, all around the world, is that the only motive they do not want ABORTIONS they oNLY WANT TO PRESERVE LIFE!! TO HAVE A LOT OF A NEW GENERATIONS TO SEND TO THE KILLING FIELS!!

That must be the least sincere non apology ever printed!
It wasn’t even Obama saying it. It was a staff member!
McCain is a national hero. Obama is a national zero!
This shows McCain has class. He straightens out the inaccuracies himself!

Comment by Don Setay

I don’t think Obama purposely ignored the topic. Obama renouncing someone that no one in the crowd had heard of would seem kind of pointless.

I would have thought Mccain would like the Warmonger label, after all he sings about bombing Iran

Did anyone see Obama and his goons shove the man who wanted a picture taken with Obama?

I thought it strange that msnbc and cnn hasn’t shown it. But then again, it’s not strange at all, They are in love with Obama.

Comment by Melisen

Whats wrong in being a warmonger? We should put Iran in its place and when we have dealt with them turn our military attention to China and Russia.

Only McCain has the balls to attack those two countries if they don´t behave. Anyone actually believe Obama woul ever attack China or .

[...] Despite an Obama campaign statement in which traveling press secretary Jen Psaki said “John McCain is not a warmonger and should not be described as such,” the McCain campaign is pushing for personal repudiation of Schultz by the Democratic candidate. [...]

A warmonger, sure McPain is but he is better than Hillary!McPain still have some beliefs and moal values left in him even though he support sudomy and illegals!

Comment by lupercal

well, first of all, mccain is a warmonger. ask him why it is that we need to stay in Iraq for 100 years, why is it that Us troops are spending $3.40 for gas to protect them and that Iraqis are spending just $1.36. why would he bomb Iran? so although a person of Obama’s class wouldn’t call Mc”cain” a warmonger, he certainly is one. JFK’s biggest mistake was going to war without a clear plan, when he approved of the Bay of Pigs invasion. His biggest success was showing restraint. the first bush’s biggest success was having clear plan, bring the world behind him in attacking saddam. his biggest success was showing that restraint in not pursuing saddamm into his country because he understood what he was getting into. We don’t need more recklessness in our foreign policy. We’re not living in a vaccum and with somebody that mistake-prone while speaking, we don’t need another warmonger. I’ll also add foxgossip’s bias in coverage. Of course, Ed Schulz was presented as an Obama supporter attending an obama event. they’re trying to build a parallel between that little hillbilly rascal of Cunningham and a factual recount of Mccain’s policy. Well, they aren’t the same. We democrats and independents admire mccain. we admire his service to this country and when he stood up to bush. he’s changed of course, and what we ridicule aren’t his personality and decency as a human being. We ridicule his policies. that’s a mile from an hillbilly’s role as an agitator who’s trying to cast obama as a radical, extremist muslim while trying to pounce his as a radical christian. it doesn’t make sense and the fact that foxgossip gave this delusional guy a platform to come back and repeat his incendiary remarks completely discredited them as a reasonable source of news.

Comment by John

Response to someone who said barack obama condemning that comment is pointless. when bill cunningham said “hussein” about barack obama, mccain who didnt hear the comment, quickly condemned it and said he wants no part of it. This situation is a perfect example on who wants to run a fair and decent campaign and who picks and chooses accordingly when to run a fair campaign when to not run.

Comment by Kathy Marino

Obama like usual did what he does best. And he wants to lead this country. I sure hope the american people wake up and see him for the liar that he really is. vote for hillary clinton for her experience.

Comment by J. Taylor

I hardly think Senator McCain should get upset by this warmonger title. He is in truth the worst kind of warmongerer. Here you have a national hero, tortured for eight terrible years and has now changed his position to condone torture! He wants to set up a permanent occupation in Iraq and indeed bomb Iran. The Obama campaign should not have been compelled to apologize for the truth.

Comment by Romney

McPain once said this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ioy90nF2anI and sure he can be trusted!

Comment by J. Taylor

Kathy Marino: “Obama like usual did what he does best.”

What exactly does that mean? Look, the suggestion that Senator Clinton’s service as First Lady somehow qualifies her as the person most ready to be President of the United States is a ludicrous assertion. Perhaps then she and Laura Bush should share a ticket. It would, however, be difficult to determine who of the two has the most experience to be President. After all, Laura Bush has traveled around the world and given her opinion regarding many significant issues. However, I don’t recall Laura Bush, (as first lady) blatantly lying about being shot at in Bosnia, risking a possible US invasion of that country! Or lying about her daughter being near the twin towers when they got hit, and spinning an outlandish tale of how she (Chelsea) had to run for her life, just to win a seat in the senate! The fact is Senator Clinton is a liar! She lied when she said she put pressure on Bill to intervene in Rwanda, and she lied to the voters in Ohio as she now lies to the voters in your state, when she says she fought against NAFTA. As the White House papers show, she was a huge proponent of NAFTA. Senator Clinton will do anything to win this nomination and has completely fabricated her foreign relations experience!

During Bill Clinton’s presidency Senator Clinton was not qualified to speak in any official capacity, nor was she in a position to sign peace treatise or broker deals. It’s absolutely absurd and offensive to the intelligence of thinking individuals to suggest otherwise. She was however given the official position to head and be the chairwoman of the Task Force on National Health Care Reform. As usual she attempted to secretly draft the bill, botched the job, turned Democrats against her and effectively galvanized the Republican Party to work in unity against the Democrats!

Now fast forward to the not so subtle lobbying of the insurance company responsible for halting the 1993 health care reform plan of the Clinton Administration — Health Insurance Association of America (HIAA), now America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP) –paid President Clinton $150,000.00 dollars in June of 2005, to deliver a speech to their board. I believe it should raise a red flag to those supporting/endorsing Senator Clinton to recognize the problematic relationship created by this. The language that now crafts Senator Clinton’s health care plan, mirrors AHIP’s proposal in remarkably unsettling ways that warrant examination.

http://www.ahip.org/content/default.aspx...

Senator Obama has far more legislative experience than Senator Clinton. He served as an Illinois senator for 8 years and has only 2 less years of congressional experience than Senator Clinton. His experience as a community organizer, civil rights attorney, Illinois State Senator and US Senator will enrich the position of President and bring about a positive change much needed in Washington.

Tell me you know better than that or are you just a kid ,and take what people tell you as truth, people lie , so do some research. If Bill had the balls to shoot down Osama’s plain before it landed in Afganistan, there may have never been a war, we certainly could have avoided 9/11. He (Bill talked and thought about it ,but decided not too?

I don’t think McCain is a warmonger, but I do not like his plan for war if he even has one . He just seems too laid back about it like if we are there okay if we aren’t that is okay too. Doesn’t have a plan . I still a hanging on to Hillary will make it. Obama is this country”s nightmare . There can not be enough people who think his mild and easy going ways are for real. I think 4000 troops dead is an awful thing,God bless them and thier family’s. However I see things from a different view, I think if we leave Iraq before we establish a strong governmnet, we will leave a oil rich country to terrorists who will kill all Iraqi people Who oppose them, then they will get the oil up and rinning,it will be priority #1 so they will have billions of money to make sure they can hit us at home (weather it bi nuclear or biological or another suicide attack,) they will bring it back to our shores. I think we should learn from the first George bush’s mistake, he left to early and now his kids and us are paying for it ,we must stay until the job is done,or our kids will be dealing with it again in the future………. How many people have been murdered in usa since the war began any one got the answer to the one?

Here we go Holly you know I do not like war..no one does .I don’t really think the fact Iraq being left an oil rich country reall y matters one way or the other. Those people do nothing but fight ,have been since before Christ.( I do not know that literally) so I will say for alongggg time they have been fighting. We are not going to stop the killing and fighting there and maybe that is what McCain knows ..a hundred years it would take just make them see fighting isn’t the only way for a solution to problems.I do not think of McCain as a warmonger , but I just think of him as a man without a plan. If those people do want come into this country they will find a way I think and we just have to be ready and able to stop them . Do you believe they couldn’t do something now ? With our troops over there winning ground for them ? I believe yes they can and it is only a matter of time before they will, unless there are none of them left to fight. It is either leave or wipe them out. War is ugly and for the civilians it is the worse of all , they die for those who can not stop fighting.

Back in the sixties, some of my friends got on the anti-establishment bandwagon. Make love not war, get naked get wild, LSD, lets all go to San Fransico, and gather in the masses for our cause. The problem was most of these nuts didn`t know what their cause was. Mainly it was to end a war so their non-patriotic asses wouldn`t have to do their part. Now these same people are the major stock holders, and journalists in our main stream media. You can`t make any sense out of what any of them report, because it comes from a one demensional viewpoint. To hear a little snip of an issue on the news, then have the spin put on it, is enough to misguide anyone. People are wondering why those of us on the right use blogs to bash those on the left, well, it`s to try to keep things as even as possible. As educated as our TV journalist are, they will only give you their personal views. These views are genuine, or the would have never been hired by their liberal employers in the first place. So people, believe what you want to, but I would suggest you use your own intellect to guide you, not mainstream media.

Iraq has got a nasty little thorne in it’s side. He is another crazy leader (saddam want to be). he is AL SADR. He must be taken out or surrender and call off his little army. If he doent surrender it could lead to his own demise. Remember Zarqawi?????? he was another little thorn, but he caused his own demise by not stepping down, he beheaded our troops. We are making progress in IRAQ. We may be there for quite some time,,, but it will not be to take over IRAQ,,,OR TO have war there. We will be there like we have soldiers PEACEFULLY,, IN south korea, Geramany,, ect. ect.

June, I was born in 1949, and I went into the USMC in 1967. Your right, the war was ugly. I will never try to make it seem like anything else. All i can say is, public opinion has a lot to do with the outcome of war, and the media has a lot to do with public opinion.

Well for me I would rather see Hillary with her baggage in the white house than the Boma man . I think John McCain is okay ,but he is much on the Bush path which bothers me. He needs a plan of his own not just fall in Bush’s muddy tracks. Note ..I didn’t say anything about the hundred year war . I do not think he meant that literally.

Comment by june

RC I agree somewhat, but what really amazes me is the people flocking behind Obama , people I would have never dreamed would before the Wright sermons and then after , they are still trailing behind him. I am not talking about people so old they have to be driven to the polls ,I mean educated young people who evidently can not see the forrest for the trees. I have lost friends for saying I would not vote for Obama.

Comment by RC MO.

June, I will admit that we don`t have much to pick from, but I don`t think it is as bleek as it might seem. McCain has seen war first hand, and I really have to believe he hates it. But he is a realist who knows how best to implement it. Bush likes to use our troops like a board game. It`s kinda like the little punk kid who always treatens other kids, be telling them his big brother is going to get them. Ive said before that I don`t think anyone has the right to hand out orders for war, if they have never had the misfortune of reading their own.

Comment by RC MO.

June, I don`t know what the fsination is. maybe they want to be part of history, or maybe they are affraid of being labeled racist for not supporting him. I don`t really care what their reasoning is, I just hope they can live with what they have done, when it all goes south.

We’re sitting back here in Florida and as Hillary supporter waiting to vote for John mcCain. I’m not going to waste my time telling you why. I’m coming out today to bash a degenerate named Ed Shultz who has embarked on a fateful trip to elect Barack Obama. He like MSMBC and Air America has gone “all in” for obama and will trash anyone who stands in their way. Ed Shultz and the rest have miscalculated the November result. they have done so for very understandable reasons. All are desperately trying to pump some life into their dwindling ratings. I’m from Florida and a Hillary support as all have read in these Fox blogs ad-nauseum for 2 months. The bottom line is simple. we are embarassed by those who would sell their very souls to achieve what they percieve as success. We look forward to the defeat of Obama in Florida and therefore for the Presidency in November and we hope that that defeat will also spell the demise of MSMBC and Air Amaerica. As for Ed Schultz, it doesn’t really matter. He will self destruct because he is a mouth breathing idiot not unlike his counter part ole Rushbo.

Hillary and her supporters have been saying for weeks that Obama`s UNELECTABLE!…well, major polls are starting to show that Hillary, etc., is right!…

the arguement that Clinton, who`s won the all-important swing states, has a much better chance of winning the swing states which Dems. will need in the fall…is starting to prove true in polling data, especially in the 3 most important swing states!…

Clinton Leads 50 - 41 Among Pennsylvania Democrats; Quinnipiac University Poll Finds; Whites Give Clinton Lead In Key November Matchups: — PENNSYLVANIA Democrats: Clinton 50 - Obama 41; FLORIDA: Clinton 44 - McCain 42; McCain 46 - Obama 37; OHIO: Clinton 48 - McCain 39; Obama 43 - McCain 42

New York Sen. Hillary Clinton holds a 50 - 41 percent lead over Illinois Sen. Barack Obama among likely Pennsylvania Democratic primary voters and runs better against Arizona Sen. John McCain, the likely Republican nominee in Pennsylvania, Florida and Ohio, according to a Quinnipiac University poll.

In general election match ups of the three largest and most important swing states in the Electoral College, the survey finds.
Florida: Clinton 44 percent - McCain 42 percent; McCain beats Obama 46 - 37 percent;
Ohio: Clinton beats McCain 48 - 39 percent; Obama gets 43 percent to McCain’s 42 percent;
Pennsylvania: Clinton tops McCain 48 - 40 percent; Obama leads McCain 43 - 39 percent.

The primary vote between Obama and Clinton splits sharply along racial lines, with her advantage coming from stronger support in every contest from white voters. For example, Clinton leads 59 - 34 percent among white Pennsylvania likely primary voters, while Obama leads 73 - 11 percent among black Democrats.

“When it comes to November, Sen. Hillary Clinton’s strength is a big edge over Sen. Barack Obama among white voters, who have not given a majority of their votes to a Democratic presidential nominee since Lyndon Johnson in 1964,” said Peter A. Brown, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute.”

More than a third of voters in the three states think Obama’s race is an advantage, more than twice the number who think it is a disadvantage. By contrast, roughly a quarter of voters say Clinton’s gender is an advantage, and about the same number think it is a disadvantage.

“Former Democratic vice presidential nominee Geraldine Ferraro’s assertion that Obama’s race has helped his candidacy finds some support among the electorate,” said Brown.

“AT LEAST FOR NOW, SEN. CLINTON`S ARGUMENT THAT SHE IS THE BETTER GENERAL ELECTION CANDIDATE IN THESE KEY BATTLEGROUND STATES APPEARS TO HAVE SOME VALIDITY,” SAID BROWN. “IN THIS SURVEY, HER STRENGTH AMONG WHITE VOTERS IS WHY SHE RUNS BETTER AGAINST SEN. McCAIN THAN DOES SEN. OBAMA.

“Roughly one in five Democrats in the three states say they will vote for McCain against Obama, but less than 10 percent say they would vote for McCain over Clinton. Among white Democrats, 23 percent defect to McCain in a matchup with Obama, but only 11 percent defect when Clinton is the Democratic candidate.”

Pennsylvania

Among Pennsylvania Democrats, Clinton leads 54 - 37 percent with women, and ties Obama 46 - 46 percent with men. Obama leads 51 - 42 percent among voters under 45 years old, while Clinton leads 54 - 37 percent among voters over 45.

By a 48 - 42 percent margin, Pennsylvania registered voters have a favorable opinion of Clinton. Obama gets a 49 - 31 percent favorability and McCain gets 47 - 31 percent.

“Sen. Clinton’s imaginary snipers, Rev. Wright, Geraldine Ferraro, these events have taken only a small toll on Sen. Clinton’s lead in the Pennsylvania Democratic primary,” said Clay F. Richards, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute.

“Her strength is her clear advantage among white voters - blue collar whites, less educated whites, economically hurting whites, that group known famously as Reagan Democrats in the Keystone State.
