McCain defends Obama over Wright flap

Denver, CO — John McCain commented–ever so briefly–on the Jeremiah Wright/Barack Obama controversy at a Thursday media availability.

Asked whether a candidate should be held accountable for the views of his pastor, McCain would say only that “knowing Senator Obama..he does not share the extreme views..that I saw on television.”

McCain was on a week-long trip abroad while the Wright debate was broiling and had yet to comment on the issue since returning to the states. While some Republican officials have expressed privately that Obama’s association with the controversial pastor could pay some political dividends in the fall, McCain campaign officials say they intend to keep the upcoming general election debate centered around policy rather than personal issues.

Two polls out this week by Pew and the Wall Street Journal both show that the Wright controversy has done little damage to Obama’s support.

I guess soon McCain will be asking Senator Barry Huessin Obama to be his Vice President. The comb will be unbeatable.

New Black Panther Party…………………Ye.ahhhhhhhhhhhhh they for Obama
Read they have some of the same ideals as Trinity…….Black….Black…..Black…..I guess if you’re a different race …go F— Yourself.

This is taken from their website:

We as a local and national party strive for Black Unity (Umoja) and Black Solidarity with other Black organizations worldwide. We shall build alliances with organizations, leaders, Churches, Mosques and like. When necessary we must deal firmly and appropriately with “Black” leadership who betray the interests of the Black community or Black Nation.

We must BUY BLACK as often as possible and cease unnecessary spending with non-Black owned businesses.

We recognize the reality of politics as being a process that controls the distribution of resources in the city and our community. We built the city, region and country, and are currently forced to pay taxes. To that end we, the New Black Panther Party engage in the political process to ensure the proper use of our communities tax dollars and other dollars that were stolen, by whites, from us.

We shall be active in the affairs of the politics of the District, region, and National Government, which impact our people. We will deal with the local city council, regional governments, school boards, ANC’s etc. We shall back strong Black candidates when they meet the Black Agenda test requirements. We encourage political awareness and activity to further the Black agenda. All Black politicians who betray the people must be dealt with. We understand that political power is limited, absent economic power and a true knowledge of self.

We struggle to establish our own provisional government (in unity with other Black organizations), in order take control of our communities and in preparation for our own government soon to come! We advocate political alliances with all African -Black Organizations that are uncompromising in the struggle for liberation. We also will organize with the other oppressed people of color. The New Black Panther Party for Self-Defense is all Black, not integrationist.

We call on Black Police officers to recognize that they are Black men and women first and police officers second. We call on Black police officers to recognize our common enemy who put our people in this condition.

The criminal justice system must be held accountable to the will of our people and not a cruel ex-slave master that desires to see our people continuously incarcerated. Of course, our work is in the jails and prisons where many great brothers and sisters are locked up. We demand immediate freedom for all political prisoners and prisoners of racist political circumstance.

We call for an end to gang violence and an end to Black on Black violence in general. We demand, locally, billions of dollars in reparations specifically for the salvation and education of our young people. Every Black youth or able-bodied person in this city and region should be afforded a proper education and reasonable job at a good wage after the robbery of our people for over 400 years.

Again we must fight gentrification or THE WHITE TAKEOVER of the (CITY). We recognize this as a conspiracy to remove our people, and will fight against it by any means necessary.

Through the BLACK DEFENSE LEAUGE (an OAAU) and call On Black legal organizations, attorneys, Black activists, pastors; preachers; churches; organizations, and leadership of every Black stripe to join with us against the evils of racism, inequality and injustice.
“FREEDOM OR DEATH!”

WE AFFIRM THAT THE GOVERNMENTS, CORPORATIONS AND WHITE PRIVATE CITIZENS OF THE REGION, HAVE WILLFULLY, INTENTIONALLY AND RECKLESSLY ENSLAVED, DISCRIMINATED AGAINST,
ROBBED AND DISFRANCHISED OUR PEOPLE IN COUNTLESS AND INNUMERABLE WAYS. WE AFFIRM THAT THE SAME ENTITIES WEALTH IN THE REGION IS ROOTED IN THE SLAVE TRADE-SYSTEM AND CURRENTLY PROFIT FROM CONTEMPORARY RACISM AND DISENFRANCHISEMENT.
WE THEREBY DEMAND THAT THE GUILTY PARTIES RELINQUISH BILLIONS OF DOLLARS OWED IN FINANCE, LAND AND OTHER NECESSARY SUPPLIES, AS PARTIAL REPARATIONS, TO PARTIALLY COMPENSATE FOR OVER 400 YEARS SLAVERY, DISCRIMINATION, RACISM, BRUTALITY, ROBBERY, THEFT, LAND-STEALING, SUFFERING, DEATH, PHYSICAL AND MENTAL INJURIES, GENERAL ABUSE, DEFAMATION, SLANDER AND A HOST OF OTHER CRIMES AND TORTS OF THE BROADEST AND WORST MAGNITUDE.
WE DEMAND THE USE OF THESE PARTIAL COMPENSATORY DAMAGES FOR THE INSTITUTIONAL REBUILDING OF THE BLACK NATION AND COMMUNITY WITH ABSOLUTELY NO STRINGS ATTACHED.
WE FULLY SUPPORT ALL NATIONAL REPARATIONS MOVEMENTS, AND CALL ON ALL BLACK ORGANIZATIONS TO FIGHT FOR REPARATIONS BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY!!

ALL POWER TO THE PEOPLE!

McCain I am supporting you, but you are making it increasingly difficult. It is clear that Obama DOES share his reverend’s views as does his snarky little wife, Michelle with her anti-American attitude and speech.

You can say nothing about BO’s current crisis and be a gentleman, but for pete’s sake don’t let him off the hook!!!

The latest on Obama was brought out by Talk Show in Portland Oregon. He contributed money to a terrorist organization. When this really hits the press (google Obama Ayers), McCain, you better not stick up for him. Saying nothing is gentlemanly. Saying all his sins are forgiven makes you look like an accomplis.

McCain knows Obama and he would not lie! No one on this sight has ever met Obama, McCain has so if he says he’s a good man, he is! I give McCain props for being open minded unlike everyone else on FOX. But I still will not vote for him and side with Obama as I never believe one should be judged by who they are associated with but how good of a job they can do! That’s America!

Comment by maire thomson

Black Panthers aren’t the only ones one needs to fear who are thrilled with the potential of an Obama Presidency (seeing that he and his minister support their agenda of course). He is also endorsed by the CPUSA (that would be the Communist Party USA) in a number of states. In his book he mentions his “Frank” his uber-father in Hawaii. Frank, admittedly the most formative person in his life to that point was a card carrying communist. He alligned himself (according to his book) with Marxist professors, leftist black students and feminists.

Worst of all, he is supported by Christine Gregoire. The far left governor of Washington who lost on two counts and fraudulently managed to find enough votes to win ultimately! She has eaten through a large surplus and headed for a large and expanding deficit.

This is what Obama will be about. He is saying that capital gains tax should be upped to 25% from 15%. That will put our economy in a tailspin like we haven’t seen the likes of since the 30’s. Does this guy know anything at all about how economies function (or fail to function)?

One of the most controversial statements in this sermon was when he mentioned “chickens coming home to roost.” Rev. Wright was actually quoting Edward Peck, former U.S. Ambassador to Iraq and deputy director of President Reagan’s terrorism task force, who was speaking on FOX News. That’s what he told the congregation.

Rev. Wright was quoting Peck as saying that America’s foreign policy has put the nation in peril:

That’s refreshing. For McCain to say that about his potential rival. This meant he will not ever use the Obama’s association with Wright as a campaign issue against Obama, having effectively “cleared” him. For this I think McCain is the least the bi-partisan of all three candidates (remaining) and he has what it takes to win over independents in a big way. My prediction is that McCain will beat Clinton, but will lose narrowly to Obama. And I think after Penns the suerdelegates will begin to assert themselves to end the democratic nomination.

Considering his own problem in the same regard, I don’t doubt he doesn’t want Obama held accountable: then he would be held so, too. Not to mention, Obama’s a lot easier to beat with his Ayers, Rezko, Said, and Khalidi ties. Anyone remember ODINGA?: McCain and the media are saving that one up to unleash in the general election. That should about do the job: a Muslim man claiming to be Sen. Obama’s cousin who’s burning Christian churches in Kenya and raping women and children as part of his second attempt to overthrow the government of Kenya. Somehow, Obama forgot to mention or clarify this situation. Gee, that sounds familiar.

———————————————-

I would argue several points. There is no question McCain can beat the Banshee in the general.

Until the Wright scandal erupted, I would have agreed with you about BO winning the general. One of the things that I doubt moderates and the left understand is how deeply the Wright videos effect religious folk. Not the religious right, but religious people in general.

The Wright comments strike to the very core of the worship experience. A vast majority of Americans have never heard such things come out of the mouth of a Man of God. They would not have believed it had they not seen it. And this will shake them to their cores, perhaps beyond their conscious awareness.

The subject of association rears its head. In the back of their minds, despite all the protestations and denials, they are going to have that doubt. “Why did he stay there for 20 years?” I predict that while this issue may have a minor impact on Democrats, it will have a profound effect on independents as they step into the booth.

As for the superdupercalafragalistic delegates, they have a very tough time ahead. No matter what they do, it will be wrong in the eyes of a very significant percentage of the party. There will be a small number who stay home. There will be a small number who vote for McCain out of spite. BO has the “moral” high ground. The Banshee has the machine, the money and in some cases, the files. It is tough to say how it will turn out.

On top of all that, if BO gets it, the Wright debacle will serve as political cover for all those conservatives who cried out that they would stay home if McCain got the nomination. Wright gives them the internal justification to break their vow.

Tough call. Obviously needs to be younger :-)

Does he go for a conservative to balance or does he go with a centrist to shore up the moderate base? I think he needs a conservative with a glowing personality.

Huckabee is out, probably not even a cabinet post.

I would say either Charley Crist or Haley Barbour. Both have excellent conservative chops and are genial guys. Both appear competent and poised.

If he goes centrist, it would almost have to be Romney, but that would be a risky move.

The problem is that BO didn’t intern with communists in the 60’s. He sat in Wright’s church last Sunday, or at least this year. He has spent the most recent 20 years in that chursch, listening to that rhetoric.

I beleive that all thinking people have the duty to at least ask themselves the question, why di he stay if he doesn’t beleive the rhetoric?

You can tell a lot about a man by who he chooses to associate with.

Comment by the southern dem

In this day and age you do not have to agree with everything a candidate suggests is his platform . I think McCain has taken the high road here but I do not concur with him when he suggests that Obama does not share the extreme views…….I think there is significant questions about that and I do not have to be politically correct as McCain is trying to be. There is a strong suggestion that if he truely disagreed with Wright Obama could have expressed his concern and hopefully toned it down….such did not occur. There is no evidence that these sermons decreased in intensity. I also believe that Obama knows right from wrong and possibly just kept his mouth shut…..but he is a US Senator with some status and a lawyer…..and yet no change.

If Obama believed what he was hearing was internally offensive and he still kept his views to himself then why did he take his kids to these sermons if not to indoctrinate them to these “parent approved” church teachings and views. This is likely the most telling issue and which suggests that Obama agreed with everything Wright was saying…..the purposeful exposure of his children to this diatribe. I can not imagine that any parent would expose his/her children to hate speech and anti-government view if he truely thought them to be offensive.

The ongoing attempts to rationalize and provide excuses FOR Wright is further evidence that Obama does not disagree with Wright’s teaching even though he has tried to separate himself from some of these phrases/words. This feeble shallow attempt continues to cement the view that he truely is trying to have it both ways when a simply “leaving the church’ would do….something he has yet to consider and is likely way too late and he knows it. Thus, with his excuses and attempts to blame everyone else and the less than adequate detachment from this church and the pastor all strongly suggest he can not stop thinking like Wright, of course he would dare not say such in public.

Those who try to compare this to the Hilliary’s Bosnia false creations is an apple to oranges issue. True, she exaggerated and repeated the exaggeration several times but it did not reflect a racial issue, un-american thoughts/speech, near child mental abuse with exposure to hate speech, inflammatory false statements (AIDS creation by the govenment) …etc…..thus, suggesting the two were similar is totally inappropriate and off the mark.

You Americans are so stupid. OK. Some of you. I mean those of you who are YOURSELVES racist anti-Americans and so closed-minded, you cant see a good thing when its right in FRONT of you. Your country’s DEEPLY in debt. Your social security is TRILLIONS of dollars in debt. And you can only focus on the comments of a pastor, taken out of context.
What you fail to see, due to your short sighted denial, is the reality: Look at what W did to your country, and the rest of the world (cos if America sneezes, the rest of the world gets a cold) with his stupid policies and his retarded war.
If you’re so CONCERNED about patriotism, why dont you focus on your national pride. Barack Obama is not unpatriotic or racist. Rev Wright is not unpatriotic or racist. It takes guts to speak your truth. The fact is, what the Rev said about America and 9/11 is the truth. It IS your stupid foreign policy that brought the wrath of 9/11 on you. If you read Bin Laden’s statements after 9/11, you would know that. They dont hate America. They dont hate you. They hate your government propping up corrupt regimes in the rest of the world, while pretending to be a bastion of democracy.
If you love your country, you will get over your own racism and stop trying to justify NOT voting for a black man by making Obama guilty by association. He did not make those statements. Moreover, a lot of what Rev Wright said, are harsh truths that some jingoistic (go look it up) Americans cannot face.
If you love your country, do what’s best. Vote Obama. You NEED change.

From the rest of the world looking in with some objectivity.

So, let me get this right. When the quote supposedly originated from a white man, it was okay. But when it turns out it was a white guy quoting a black guy, you freak out.

What I said is that for older Americans, Malcom X’s statement was a brutal thing to hear coming from a violent black militant and it was seared into their memories. If you knew any of the history, you would understand this.

The JFK assassination was a massive body blow to this nation. After getting this shocking news, it was compounded by a hateful statement from a black militant. During one of the most racially charged times in our history.

Peck has repeatedly used the phrase in his lectures for that very reason. It shocks and angers, which is exactly why he uses it.

Wright knows very well the original source. It must have been a delicious irony for him to attribute it to a white man, in front of a black audience who also know their black history well enough to recognize the source, and the irony.

If you think that my words imply that I am justifying prejudice against blacks or that blacks don’t matter, you are reading what YOU WANT TO SEE, not what I wrote.

You could say that it takes guts to be in the KKK….would that suggest because he has guts he is qualified to be president and still be a member of the KKK too!!!! I THINK NOT. That’s all we need in the presidency….A GUTSY BIGOT….using your logic that person should be electable. I guess the same could be for the child molestor who verifies he likes kids…that he has guts…and therefore should be qualified for the presidency. ME THINKS YOUR ARE SICK

So, let me get this right. When the quote supposedly originated from a white man, it was okay. But when it turns out it was a white guy quoting a black guy, you freak out.

I know in your little warped mind that is how you see it.

I freakin know where the original statements came from and didn’t need to be enlightened by YOU. I was responding to YOUR comments when you said they were basically the worse racially charged words spoken in the 20th century! Which is ridiculous!

If YOU didn’t utter that nonesense I wouldn’t have responded to your post.

Andy….Im for Mccain but do you think that he will stop treating Obama with kid gloves ?
—————–

Nope. And he will slaughter anyone on his staff who does. At least on the issue of Wright.

As other items come to light, he will probably pick and choose carefully.

Anyone who wants this war to continue are brainwashed, unless your profiting from it. Why do you want to American blood shed, for a country that doesn’t give a crap about us. This war was fought to secure oil rights, and still oil is up to $110 a barrel. Don’t believe the lies about us trying to “liberate the Iraqi people “. Let the U.N worry about that stuff. Our military is stretched thin right now. Let our soldiers protect our borders and coastlines.

Since you don’t find that statement important, please enlighten me.

What statement made by a black do YOU think was the one of the most racially charged in the 20th century? Please? Tell me.

________________________________________________________________________________

And, why does it matter who the original author of the phrase was. The fact is Wright INFORMED PEOPLE that obvioulsy a WHITE MAN felt the same way as Malcolm X. It’s not ONLY BLACK people that think America bad deeds have bit her in the arse and will continue to bite her when she continues to do BAD THINGS in the world, but WHITE PEOPLE TOO!

YOU mention what Rev. Wright knew and blah, blah, blah…… YOU obviously believe Rev. Wright was trying to mislead his audience because that’s what YOU WANT TO SEE!

Smooth. Clean. I like it. Maybe they’ll all kill each other and then we can go back in and colonize.

Sounds like a plan to me.

I am not surprised at many of the comments on this blog, much of what has been said here about Barrack Obama represents the epitome of ignorance. Someone could tell you Barrack was an alien and you would believe it! I am not a Barrack supporter, but I just wish that Americans would grow up and finally be able to judge a candidate on the issues and not race, age, or gender and I believe that the reason you all are bashing Obama is because he is black, and many of you can’t handle that fact which is utterly ridiculous, but you call yourselves christians? What a bunch of bull.

You need to slow down and read my words.

I said Wright knew and SO DID HIS AUDIENCE!!! That is the irony. As Wright was standing there “quoting” a white guy, the majority, if not all, of his audience was aware that it was really Malcolm who said it.

Do you understand irony?

Do you understand that racism is not a wholly owned subsidiary of white people?

Tim,

The question remains on the table.

I couldn’t even begin to list the comments made by whites. We would be here all night.

But, since there are relatively few made by blacks that made it to national press, this should be easy.

What statement made by a black do YOU think was the one of the most racially charged in the 20th century? Please? Tell me.

On a much lighter side.

As you may have heard, the Bush Administration said every taxpayer would now get a nice rebate.

If we spend the money at Wal-Mart, it will all go to China.
If we spend it on gasoline it will all go to the Arabs.
If we spend it on fruit and vegetables it will all go to Mexico, Honduras, and Guatemala.
If we purchase a good car it will all go to Japan.
If we purchase electronic gadgets it will all go to Taiwan or Malaysia.

We need to keep that money at home to strengthen our economy here, so the best way to spend it is for prostitutes and beer, the only truly functional businesses still thriving in the US.

My name is Elliot Spitzer and I approved this ad..

I don’t keep a list of the most racially charged comments made by blacks or whites. I know for a FACT that the chickens coming home to roost comments by Malcolm X is not in the top 1000. Actually, the comments aren’t RACIST!!!!!! They were just INSENSITIVE!!!!!!!!!!!

But to answer your questions, When Jessie Jackson called New York “heimi town” that caused one of the biggest uproars.

The worse I have personally heard was recently by this Black preacher (can’t remember his name) that said Barack Obama was trash because he came from a white woman; basically calling white women TRASH!

He should have been stoned and most difinitely removed from the pulpit. I probably would have been fighting this clown because he was so ignorant. If Barack Obama acutally stood there and listened to the crap this moron was spewing I could understand the uproar like the one he’s getting for being a member of Rev. Wright’s church.

Now, that guy that thinks white women is trash is a pure racist…. end of story.
