Dean: Don’t give McCain a free ride

Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean is calling on Democrats to donate cash in order to ensure Sen. John McCain “doesn’t get a free ride,” in an email sent out to supporters Friday.

As the two Democrats continue to battle for the nomination, Dean tells supporters that they “can’t be complacent,” warning that “every day that goes by where we don’t answer John McCain’s attacks means another opportunity missed, and it erases the work we’ve done so far.” At the start of the month, the DNC trailed their Republican counterparts by more than $20 million in cash on hand.

“We can’t allow John McCain to crisscross the country, fooling the American people with his ‘more of the same’ agenda,” Dean wrote in the email.

Full email…

FULL DNC EMAIL BELOW:

Dear Friend,

Our nominee can't build an organization to take on John McCain yet, but we canJohn McCain is raising money and campaigning across the country — he’s looking at the White House.

Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama are also raising money and campaigning across the country — but they’re still looking at the nomination.

Hillary and Barack can’t build an organization to take on John McCain directly yet, but we can. And we have to — it’s our responsibility as Democrats to make sure we’re prepared.

I need you to make a contribution now so we can make sure John McCain doesn’t get a free ride — Americans everywhere need to know the truth, and we’re going to make sure they get it.

http://www.democrats.org/NoFreeRides

Over the past three years, you’ve invested heavily in our 50-State Strategy. We put resources in all 50 states, committing to make sure each state has the resources and infrastructure to compete at every level.

We saw the results from this strategy in 2005, 2006, and 2007. And, with your help, it will help us take back the White House in 2008.

Why? The Republican Party is in trouble. Just read what the Web site Politico reported…

At a time when the GOP presidential nominee will need more assistance than ever, a number of state Republican parties are struggling through troubled times, suffering from internal strife, poor fundraising, onerous debt, scandal or voting trends that are conspiring to relegate the local branches of the party to near-irrelevance.

In some of the largest, smallest, reddest and bluest states in the nation, many state Republican organizations are still reeling in the aftermath of the devastating 2006 election cycle, raising questions about how much grassroots help the state parties will be able to deliver to presumptive GOP nominee John McCain.

We’ve worn them down, but we can’t be complacent — we’ve seen what they will do to win. We can’t let up — every day that goes by where we don’t answer John McCain’s attacks means another opportunity missed, and it erases the work we’ve done so far.

Make a donation today and support our efforts to help elect Hillary or Barack. We’re fighting John McCain so he doesn’t get ahead.

http://www.democrats.org/NoFreeRides

We can’t allow John McCain to crisscross the country, fooling the American people with his “more of the same” agenda.

Your donation today helps us take him head-on everywhere.

Thank you,

Howard Dean

What ever happened to…”Don’t give Obama a free ride?? Ok to overlook everything bad for the sake of political correctness on Obama. Does the DNC have any credibility…NOT! The cover-up on the part of the left wing media goes well beyond anything close to Watergate.

Comment by Kelly

Dean, you and the DNC and the crew over in Congress are all trying to usurp this election. Obama and Clinton are running neck and neck. If you had vetted Obama before Super Tuesday, he would not be in the position he is in now. Maybe it would have been Clinton and Edwards. What hypocrites and you will get what you deserve.

HOWARD DEAN IS PROBABLY ONE OF THE BEST ASSETS THAT THE REPUBLICAN PARTY COULD HAVE!!! WHEN HE OPENS HIS MOUTH IT HELPS THE REPUBLICAN PARTY!!! I AM EXTEMELY SURPRISED THAT HE HASN’T BECOME A TEST CASE IN A MENTAL WARD!!!!

Howard Dean, King of Clowns. He’s the one who made a mess of this to begin with. It seems like a a lot of support monies have already been spilled into the toilet. Once he helps manage a false Obama nomination into November … the toilet will be flushed and so will he (Dean).

Hurry up all you asses….oops… I mean donkeys….. Dean wants your money!

Howard Dean could well go down in American political history as the one responsible for the failure of the Democrats to gain the Presidency when all the odds were supposedly stacked in their favour.

He’s offering desperation moves (gosh how unusual for Dean) like a July 1 deadline for superdelegates to vote before they launch into hysterics at the convention, and now this rubbish..”seen what they will do”.

Like what Howie?

Like calling an opposing nominee a monster, not disown a racist pastor, marry a woman who has never been proud of her country before, “misspeak” on her experience in Bosnia, distribute photos of her opposing nominee in traditional Kenyan dress, vote “present” for most of his senatorial career, be writing books for much of his senatorial career, be “friendly” with an unrepentant domestic terrorist like Bill Ayers, tell the nation you never voted for the war when you never were in a capacity to vote anyway….you mean that kind of thing Howie?

Howard Dean is the one doing the damage, how can the democratic party have this moron in the position he is, he has never been good enough for anything not as a candidate neither as a chairman this guy is an imbecil. Is not fair that he denied MI and Fl of their delegates, just to protec his golden boy. I’m a Democrat and proud of it but if Dean gets away with this and lets Obama steal the nomination, like many I’ll proudly join senator Mc Cain.

Obama is constantly “repudiating” comments and writings made by Wright. Wow - he is ridiculous. And he is doing it NOW? Where the hell has he been for 20 years! Oh that’s right, he joined the Trinity Church because of political expediency and he exploiting the black community for his own political gain. What a joke.

Vote for Hillary please. We don’t need anyone who cannot differentiate between anti-American, anti-white, anti-semitic speech.

Exclusive: Obama Connection to Terrorists Revealed by Talk Show Host

Jim Kouri
March 24, 2008

There is a far-reaching scandal brewing for presidential hopeful Sen. Barack Obama, thanks to a radio talk show host based in Oregon. Syndicated talk host Laurie Roth’s revelations make the news story about Obama’s relationship with a racist, anti-American pastor look like child’s play.

A top official at the Pentagon during former-President George H. W. Bush’s Administration and a former CIA intelligence officer maintain that Barack Obama and former Weather Underground honcho William Ayers funneled money to Professor Rashid Khalidi, a known terrorist sympathizer.

Khalidi serves on the faculty of Columbia University in New York and is best known as the professor who invited Iranian President Ahmedinejad to visit Columbia University after he finished his speech at the United Nations. According to confidential sources, Khalidi has direct ties to the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO), a group on the US State Department’s list of known terrorist groups.

“One source for this information was once a top military figure in the 1990s. He doesn’t take making allegations lightly. If he says something happened, believe me, it happened,” said syndicated radio talk show host Laurie Roth

What Attacks? McCain doesn’t have to attack them, their doing a great job on their own with each other. It’s going to take more than money for Barack Hussien Obama to win, and Hillary…well.., I think the two-faced democratic party has hurt her enough during this whole process. She is doing a great job of hanging in there though. I don’t know any woman that can take the crap she has taken and still come out smiling and holding her head up high. I do admire her for that.

Of course, my vote has already been decided for McCain. Not because he is getting a free ride…. oh no, how could he get a free ride with the New York Times making up stuff and then leaving it up to us to figure out if it is a lie or not. He certainly isn’t getting any positve air time on the news, (except for Fox). All you hear on CNN, MSNBC, ABC, NBC, and CBS is Obama and Clinton, and anything remotely said about McCain is usualy in a negative light. Especially that arrogant Chris Matthews, he makes me sick.

I think Mr Howard is clueless and just wants more of your money. I heard not long ago, that many of the supporters wanted their money back. Could this be the real reason.

Hey Justin … I totally concur, and there are of course more Dem buffoons that you could have waxed poetic on. The current Dem leadership is a clown-rich environment.

HILLARY, YOU SHOULD NEVER QUIT
Howard Dean and Patrick Leahy should shut up. These guys have their own agenda. Both of these guys are Obama supporters. If they have any respect for democracy, they should not try to disfranchise the people of Florida and Michigan –the states Hillary won- by colluding with Obama. Let the people vote. This is democracy not dictatorship. They should not be allowed to silence the voices of the people in Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Indiana, Guam, Puerto Rico, Kentucky, Montana, Oregon, and South Dakota. Also they should try to seat the delegates from Florida and Michigan instead of taking sides in this historic election. By disfranchising the people of Florida and Michigan they are trying to steal the election from Hillary. Hillary, you should never quit. If you quit, we will vote for McCain.

Hey, he’s right, Republicans are losers across the country and based on the posts are very bitter and whining like never before about it! Reading all the responses made my day!

Comment by Haley Rodman Clemson

Howard Dean is on my list of favorite people, no doubt about that. Putting a semi-retarded liberal in charge of the party was either a huge mistake or another affirmative action hire gone wrong. Either way, he is singlehandedly doing more damage to his own candidates and party than any Republican could have dreamed possible.

Comment by Debbie

Howard Dean is transparent. He wants the democrats to make a decision Now so the Heat will be Off Him with regards to Michigan and Florida voters. Hillary still has a chance at the nomination…No reason in the world she should quit! Stop bullying the female candidate Howard Dean! Own up to Your Own mess with Michigan and Florida . . .

Comment by Mike Mann

What is it that you people don’t understand about the Michigan and Florida debacle? You want to direct your fire at the people responsible for the mess? Look no further than your own elected officials. They are the ones who broke the rules that were agreed upon. It was in PLAIN ENGLISH. There is no disenfranchising taking place. That’s what happens when you break the rules, you get a spanking. We all learned as a child how life works. Get over it.

If we were talking about a softball game ‘d agree but to disenfranchise 4 million people because 100 or so elected officials made a decision to move their dates up is pretty weak.

Oh really? So our current leader has told the truth? I’m sorry, I thought he sent me to Iraq to find weapons of mass destruction and track down all the hundreds of connections there were to Bin Laden. Thanks for clarifying and setting me straight. I guess I should go register as a Republican now.

Aren’t there any progressives on this bus? Oh, that’s right… this is the FOXnews web site. Oh well… Obama all the way! I will say that McCain is the most palatable of any of the republicans.. but that’s not saying all that much.

Comment by John Son

I believe most Americans know what issues we face as a nation as we try to decide which candidate(s) will best resolve them. We see in John McCain’s life, past and present a devotion to serve his country. Anyone who knows Senator McCain will tell you that he has passion for what he believes in and a constant drive to serve his country to the best of his abilities with sincerity, truthfulness, and dedication.

I remember seeing John on the Forrestall the morning of the flight deck fire, he was really beat up, but after some medical treatment he was transferred to the Enterprize and joined up with an attack squadron and that same day launched off in a A6A attack aircraft to provide close ground air support for our troops in Viet Nam. That same day his aircraft was shot down and he was taken prisoner.

Most Americans are aware of the courageous service John provided as a naval aviator and POW . But few can fully appreciate how bad the egregious hospitality of the Hanoi Hilton really was .His main concerns were for other POWs’ life threatening conditions and how he could help them is spite of the injuries he had received prior to and during his confinement.
Our convictions about John’s character were born in the crucible of adversity. We have witnessed his courage, integrity, character and intellect. We know and greatly respect his sense of honor and his tenacity in the face of grave danger and prolonged hardship(s). These qualities, combined with his life experiences, make John ready for the enormous challenges facing the leader of our country. No one — no one – has a greater knowledge of what war is really like or more qualified to be president, to lead our country and protect our nation. Some pretend to know him or deride his physical short comings but do nor know his physical strengths, his love of country and his commitment to serve it. He has been severely tested, and we have witnessed him under pressure. We trust his judgment and his ability to surround himself with our countries best advisors to lead our country without the BS to lead his beloved country and countrymen.
.We could do a whole lot worse than vote for John Mc Cain as our next president of the United States for every man, woman and child in our country regardless of their political affiliation. In John’s administration there are no Democrats or Republicans only Americans.

God Speed John Mc Cain

Those elected officials wasted millions of dollars for nothing, knowing what would happen. They were warned. The public just went along with it. The same public who paid for it all. No one, NO ONE, attempted to intervene. But now they all want to intervene. Guess what. A vote for an official is a vote for every move that official makes. Like it or not, you empower those people. So go back, look at the election results, and thank those who gave them the power to do it.

I would love to see a re-vote. Maybe not in Florida, but in Michigan. I say, fine, we’ll count Florida as is, but there will be a lesson learned. The states will be reprimanded, and in fine print, it will say, “From this day forth, if a state breaks the rules, they don’t get counted”. In Michigan, I’d like to see a re-vote for the simple fact that Senator Clinton violated the rules her campaign agreed upon. Senator Obama was not on the ticket. That is why Senator Clinton wants the votes. It’s a win-win for her.

Comment by Mike Mann

To John Son - Go experience war for yourself, have your brother-in-arms die in your arms, have a child die in your arms, sacrifice a part of your life that you will never get back. Then come back and tell me if you want to elect another man who will take us further down the path of war. Stop repeating what you’ve heard, what you’ve saw, what you’ve read in a book or saw in a picture. Get out of your comfort zone and open your mind.

May John McCain never see the Oval Office. Amen.

Comment by DB

Mike,

Well I definitely think they need to do something but I’d disagree with the from this point forward thing as situations can sometimes warrant alternative actions. I’d prefer the Primary to fall on the same day for everyone, like the general election and not allow the media to report on any results to include exit polling until the very last vote is cast out west. This way, the media doesn’t skew the election, the voters have to vote for their candidate of choice as opposed to crossing party lines, and we the American people get the two best candidates for our party.

If the Dems let them vote then it prolongs the race. If they don’t let them vote then they will be finally enforcing their rules. FL and MI broke the rules; plain and simple. But if they don’t vote then someone will scream foul. The Dems really screwed themselves. I guess they banked too hard on their slogan that McCain is another Bush. Obviously not enough people are buying that. They also showed their hands too soon by supporting Obama as much as they have. It’s actually kind of funny to watch; and scary.

DB, I couldn’t agree more on the idea of the same day elections and no media reports. That would be a grand scenario. What I might add is that there also be some kind of regulation to crossing lines prior to the primary just to cross back for the general election. I have actually spoken to people who did that with the intent of hurting the opposite side’s best candidate. I’m sure you’re familiar with the Rush Limbaugh idea I’m speaking of.

Can anyone please explain to me why American soldiers should die, and billions of dollars a week, being spent on this never ending war. When will you realize that the Iraq will never change. I cannot find anything good that has come as a result of our invasion. And please don’t tell me that is for the Iraqi people to be liberated. American lives vs Iraqi Freedom. No brainer. They agreed to only use public donations to their parties for the elections when it came down to only two. Obama agreed when there were many candidates left and he was losing. Now that he’s winning and bringing in a record amount of money he is backing out of that agreement.

I am sick an tired of people giving homage to the States of New Hampshire and Iowa. There is absolutely no reason why these two states should lead off the primary season every election cycle. That is the outrage, and I hope that the Florida and Michigan problems cause a change where it belongs — getting rid of those two states free ride.

It is insulting to see some “news” story talking about how the citiezens of those states are so mindfull of their “duty” in winnowing down the presidential field.

Can anybody point out to me where in the Constitution these two states are given ths “duty”?

Thought so. How about thiis, point out to me where the United States Code gives these two states this “duty”?

See, those jokers do not have a “duty” and are living off the fat of the land by having their votes come first every election cycle. Michigan is hurting with the loss of industry. Don’t you think they wanted to get at least as much attention as New Hampshire and Iowa?

Further, those states are not very “representative” of the whole country. As Mitt found out Iowa has a huge evangelical base. If Iowa was the 10th or 15th state he might well have been the nominee.

New Hampshire is far more liberal than the rest of the nation. Things change, and even the “Old Man of the Mountain” has moved on.

We need to start rotating the primary order, or perhaps go back to a relic of my youth and draw balls in a “draft lottery”. Perhaps the states funding of the primaries could come from a super lottery based on the order of the first 6 states chosen. The odds of winning would be 1 in 244 million with the kicker being that like the politician you would get your money from the Pick the State Primary Order lottery TAX FREE! I mean after all, unlike any other business they do not pay taxes on their campaign earnings.

Mike,

I just can’t see just pulling out. Do I want the war to continue forever? Absolutely Not but there is work to be done and we owe it to the good citizens of Iraq to assist them in putting a stable government in place before we leave. We will leave though and be better off for it with the stability.

Comment by Mike Mann

To tell you the truth guys…

I was a registered Republican from the day I turned 18 years old. I voted for W. in both of his campaigns. I have never felt let down by any experience more than my involvement in the war. It made me feel evil myself for believing that I was going to do good over there. I was out of the Army for 4 years and came back in knowing that I’d be going straight over. During that time, my experience has shaped who I am now, and I believe there’s a better way so that our friends, comrades, and family, don’t have to continue going down this old road. I am pretty moderate still, but I am also very aware that we need a real change. It’s too bad more than two parties can’t spare some other good candidates.

We have an obligation to finish this war and make it right. Iraq is changing. It is not the same as it was when I was there in 2003 and again in 2004. We can’t continue this cut and run policy. Look throughout our history when we have done. What happened in those counrtie? How did it affect the world? And arguing that we should not have gone is old news. We need to finish what we started. That’s the problem with making a decision. I know I sound like a Republican or Bush lover but I’m not. I’m an Independant and I have know love for Bush. He’s a man. And we won’t know the full story untill years later.

I’m guessing it’s because they have party and election agreements. They also have a timeline to meet and every state has to get hit. They have to abide by certain rules. States can’t tell the parties how to run their elections. What I don’t like is how some states wouldn’t allow Reps to vote in the Dem election and vice versa when they were holding it.

I can’t trust a presidential candidate that won’t be a part of certain American traditions. He doesn’t want to be sworn in on the Bible yet he’s a Christian (and it’s a tradition). He won’t wear a flag pin to honor our troops. He can be against the war but he needs to show respect. If he’s president he may need these same troops one day.
