Obama Delivers Economic Address
New York, NY—
In the heart of the nation’s financial capital and using the same podium that Abraham Lincoln once spoke from, Barack Obama unveiled an economic policy today calling for a 30 billion dollar stimulus plan to revive the struggling economy–including tighter government regulation and transparency. He stated that providing relief to people struggling from home foreclosures is imperative. He blamed the Bush administration for it’s “inaction” and compared his Republican rival, John McCain to the president:
“After months of inaction, the President spoke here in New York and warned against doing too much. His main proposal – extending tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans – is completely divorced from the reality that people are facing around the country,” Obama said to cheers, “John McCain recently announced his own plan, and it amounts to little more than watching this crisis happen. While this is consistent with Senator McCain’s determination to run for George Bush’s third term, it won’t help families who are suffering, and it won’t help lift our economy out of recession.”
The McCain campaign responded immediately with the Republican nominee-in-waiting lashing out at both Obama and Clinton calling their plans bailouts:
“ I believe the role of government is to help the truly needy, prevent systemic economic risk, and enact reforms that prevent the kind of crisis we are currently experiencing from ever happening again. Those reforms should focus on improving transparency and accountability in our capital markets — both of which were lacking in the lead-up to the current situation,” McCain said in an e mail statement, “However, what is not necessary is a multi-billion dollar bailout for big banks and speculators, as Senators Clinton and Obama have proposed. There is a tendency for liberals to seek big government programs that sock it to American taxpayers while failing to solve the very real problems we face.”
Obama’s six-step plan ranged from greater financial institution regulation and reform to restraining illegal trading activity and market manipulation. He also called for the creation of a commission that would advise the President and Congress on the state of the economy to try and “anticipate risks before they erupt into a crisis. ” He stressed that Wall Street and Main Street are intertwined:
“What was bad for Main Street was bad for Wall Street. Pain trickled up,” Obama said, “There is no dividing line between Main Street and Wall Street. The decisions made in New York’s high-rises have consequences for Americans across the country.”
The Democratic frontrunner also had some veiled jabs for Hillary Clinton. Over the past few days Obama has been going after Clinton for taking campaign donations from lobbyists. Even though he didn’t mention her name he did insist again that he does not accept lobbyist money:
“The American people must be able to trust that their government is looking out for all of us – not just those who donate to political campaigns. I fought in the Senate for the most extensive ethics reform since Watergate. I have refused contributions from federal lobbyists and PACs,” Obama said, “And I have laid out far-reaching plans that I intend to sign into law as President to bring transparency to government, and to end the revolving door between industries and the federal agencies that oversee them.”
The Clinton camp also responded to the address saying that Obama was “copying” Senator Clinton’s stimulus plan. Clinton policy director Neera Tanden issued a biting statement, “If Senator Obama has to copy policy ideas when he’s a candidate on the campaign trail, how is he going to solve people’s problems if he’s president? When it comes to fixing the economy, we need leadership, not followership.”
New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg introduced the Illinois Senator, but it was not an endorsement by the billionaire mayor who teased the press about a potential run for the presidency earlier in the campaign, “I have not endorsed a candidate for president,” Bloomberg said, “But I have been very clear in my hope that all the candidates will explain in detail how they will handle the great challenges facing our country.”
Bloomberg said that he is invested in the race and that, “It is critical that we know exactly where each candidate stands as we make perhaps the most important decision in our lives next November.” The mayor reminded the audience that he had had breakfast with Senator Obama in December and that Obama picked up the check. The senator teased Bloomberg calling him “a cheap date” and that he wanted to go to a steakhouse when it is Bloomberg’s turn to pick up the tab.

Just what we need. More regulations, more government agencies, more bureaucrats who can’t make an honest living in the marketplace.
What so many Dems seem to have ignored is the true source of the mortgage crisis.
With accusations of redlining and racism, special interest groups spent the last decade putting immense pressure on regulators and lenders to reduce the thresholds required for borrowing. And, they bowed to that pressure, with little regard for the fiduciary stupidity of lowering standards.
We spent years with no-doc loans, instant cash out loans, 5% down, 2% down, 0% down. People ran to ARMs and bought the absolute maximum house they could pay for, not afford, but pay for, under higher ratios and the other foolish changes we have seen.
So, what happens? A small blip in the economy becomes a overnight disaster because thousands of borrowers have no excess cash to handle a short term shortfall. Wham. Foreclosures.
Let’s look a little further. The press has created much of the furor we see today.
“FORECLOSURES DOUBLE!!!”
But what does that mean? It sounds like millions of people will be out on their butts in the cold.
Actually, fewer than 1/2 of 1 percent of residential mortgages are in default. And a fair portion of those homes are not primary homes. A lot of them are vacation homes, investment properties, etc.
It isn’t nice, but it isn’t even close to the disaster the press is making it out to be.
Further, most of the folks who can’t make their mortgage payments are the ones who wouldn’t have been able to get a mortgage under the more realistic rules that used to be in place.

Regulation is a curse word for Republicans and Conservatives. I think there is plenty regulation of the markets and plenty of financial institution regulation. But there is little self-regulation, or that is, self-restraint.
The problem is from the bottom-up, consumers living and buying way over their heads. And it is from the top down, Government spending and buying way over its head and our heads.
Bigger government and more spending really will not solve these problems. Fiscal discipline, more honest and balanced budets and spending within their means is the answer for everybody. The problem is that is not “the American Dream.” The American dream is uncontrolled consumerism that
propels more uncontrolled consumerism and that is the “measure of economic prosperity.” No, that is the measure of impending disaster.
We are all guilty. The Government needs to talke a leadership role in this. No, the “voodoo economics” of low taxes and high spending does not work. We can’t have big wars and big tax cuts for the rich at the same time. Trickle down does not trickle down to paying for trillions and trillions and trillions of Government, business and consumer debt.

I am seating here outside of America but dam right in the evolution of what’s going on in America. First I got to say that in this blog, I will refer to the “Obama calls for economic relief” because I thought that the “Obama greatest speech was the one about races as transparent as a speech in a 21st century”…. But, Hold on because the guy is still getting greater admiration among anti Americans and even charming the heart of Europeans even though if this man is dangerously representing the core of supreme intelligence and it happens to be America to catch this opportunity. Look, It’s easy to figure out, while listening to both democratic candidates, one of them is talking directly out from his brain and the other one is reading textually what she has been told to say. The Obama speech on his “economic plan” is demonstrating his power for the reconstruction of America and the “the Clintons economic plan” are showing us facts I’m analyzing while writing this blog. In my entire life, I have never and never been so absorbed in a political race like the one I have to face in this 21st century since January 2001. Republicans are backing to Obama and I am in a dream for to join the American dream and forget my own European image of the world in this new Era. What’s going on in my head or is my heart driving me out of the context? No, I am in a discussion deploying the world new Economy challenges, because I shall not have to pay so much taxes in oil for to drive my car to the next station, so I am concerned to the lasting economy of the United State of America, but I can’t vote and I am just supposed to seat and watch and look at the US Economy (McCain offer) or listen to 2 other Democrats candidates. One of them (on the pupils) is speaking out directly from his brain and the second one is reading from a paper (Mrs. Clinton). Actions Speak Better than Words
Before the negative press regarding Mr. Wright, Mr Obama had on numerous occasions declared Mr. Wright as his mentor and spiritual teacher for the past 20 years and even went so far as to include Mr. Wright in his election staff, these are the actions of Mr. Obama. When the press found out about the Hitleresque personality of Mr. Wright, Mr. Obama’s staff writers immediately created a rebuttal of hyperbole that amazingly some people actually believed.
But regardless what Mr. Obama and his staff reply, Mr. Obama cannot retract his clear public proclamation that Mr. Wright has been mentor and spiritual teacher for over 20 years. And that up to the negative press, up to recently Mr. Wright was on Mr. Obama’s Spiritual Advisor Committee campaign team.
If you make the choice to listen and learn from Hitler every week over 20 years, do you expect me or any other rational being to believe that you wouldn’t be or want to be influenced by Hitler’s ideas? And what does that say of your personal integrity if you chose American hating Mr. Wright, or Mr. Hitler as your mentor in life?
Action is the real measure of a person, not their words. We know who Mr. Obama is by his life and his teachers, not the words he spins. And we can only imagine the amount of hatred Mr. Obama will unleash once he achieves ultimate power. And woe be the whites, the poor, those of the Jewish faith and anyone else Mr. Obama thinks deserve retribution. Maybe I am wrong, but considering Mr. Obama’s 20 year religious education, is such a risk worth the gamble?
And also consider recent announcement that the chief of the firm involved in the State Department’s passport breach is one of Obama’s adviser. (And why is this not being discussed?) And that Obama has been caught lying about Rezko, regarding the amount of money Rezko gave him, and that Obama still hasn’t come clean about his Rezko land deal. Or further, how Mrs. Obama makes a phenomenal $317.000 a month at a hospital in Chicago that is famous for turning away the poor, especially the black poor.
If Obama were to become president, what would stop Mr. Obama from appointing Mr. Wright to his cabinet? And after Mr. Wright’s appointment, if anyone complained no doubt they would be called racist. And it seems as if this strategy - that it is racist to criticize a black man - is already in effect as Mr. Obama can do anything corrupt with minimal impunity by the public or the press. But if Hillary so much as sneezes, she is taken through the laundry and hung out to dry and then beaten some more. Such an obvious bias treatment towards Mr. Obama because of his race is racial discrimination. And I believe another reason why Mrs. Clinton is unfairly criticized to such an extreme is because a handful of powerful men in the media can’t stand the idea of a woman for president – likely a libido thing.
We should have as our country’s leader someone with wisdom and knowledge, whose goal is the selfless betterment of the world. We should not elect someone with a personal agenda for personal power or select them because of the fashionably of their race or the preference for a gender.
It is interesting to note the large dearth of death threats and profanity I have received from Obama supporters when I submit essays like this. A violent public attitude towards freedom of speech is reminiscent of the days when Mussolini assumed power.

Very good comments. Well thought and well stated. No matter how much we put it out there some people just refuse to admit they are wrong. And, why should they when Obama himself cannot admit he was wrong in supporting Trinity. The Obama supporters, who lack intelligence and morality in my view, are angry because they know he won’t win. Hillary supporters are even angrier and want to make sure Obama doesn’t win even if that means they have to vote for McCain. I’m glad to see the pressure remains strong and we have another 7 months to see it Obama’s other evil characteristics emerge.

Large numbers of Republicans have been voting for Barack Obama in the DEMOCRATIC primaries, and caucuses from early on. Because they feel he would be a weaker opponent against John McCain. And because they feel that a Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama ticket would be unbeatable. And also because with a Clinton and Obama ticket you are almost 100% certain to get quality, affordable universal health care very soon.
But first, all of you have to make certain that Hillary Clinton takes the democratic nomination and then the Whitehouse. NOW! is the time. THIS! is the moment you have all been working, and waiting for. You can do this America. “Carpe diem” (harvest the day).
I think Hillary Clinton see’s a beautiful world of plenty for all. She is a woman, and a mother. And it’s time America. Do this for your-selves, and your children’s future. You will have to work together on this and be aggressive, relentless, and creative. Americans face an even worse catastrophe ahead than the one you are living through now.
You see, the medical and insurance industry mostly support the republicans with the money they ripped off from you. And they don’t want you to have quality, affordable universal health care. They want to be able to continue to rip you off, and kill you and your children by continuing to deny you life saving medical care that you have already paid for. So they can continue to make more immoral profits for them-selves.
Hillary Clinton has actually won by much larger margins than the vote totals showed. And lost by much smaller vote margins than the vote totals showed. Her delegate count is actually much higher than it shows. And higher than Obama’s. She also leads in the electoral college numbers that you must win to become President in the November national election. HILLARY CLINTON IS ALREADY THE TRUE DEMOCRATIC NOMINEE!
As much as 30% of Obama’s primary, and caucus votes are Republicans trying to choose the weakest democratic candidate for McCain to run against. These Republicans have been gaming the caucuses where it is easier to vote cheat. This is why Obama has not been able to win the BIG! states primaries. Even with Republican vote cheating help.
Hillary Clinton has been out manned, out gunned, and out spent 2 and 3 to 1. Yet Obama has only been able to manage a very tenuous, and questionable tie with Hillary Clinton.
If Obama is the democratic nominee for the national election in November he will be slaughtered. Because the Republican vote cheating help will suddenly evaporate. All of this vote fraud and republican manipulation has made Obama falsely look like a much stronger candidate than he really is. YOUNG PEOPLE. DON’T BE DUPED! Think about it. You have the most to lose.
The democratic party needs to fix this outrage. I suggest a Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama ticket. Everyone needs to throw all your support to Hillary Clinton NOW! So you can end this outrage against YOU the voter, and against democracy.
I think Barack Obama has a once in a life time chance to make the ultimate historic gesture for unity, and change in America by accepting Hillary Clinton’s offer as running mate. Such an act now would for ever seal Barack Obama’s place at the top of the list of Americas all time great leaders, and unifiers for all of history.
The democratic party, and the super-delegates have a decision to make. Are the democrats, and the democratic party going to choose the DEMOCRATIC party nominee to fight for the American people. Or are the republicans going to choose the DEMOCRATIC party nominee through vote fraud, and gaming the DEMOCRATIC party primaries, and caucuses.
Fortunately the Clinton’s have been able to hold on against this fraudulent outrage with those repeated dramatic comebacks of Hillary Clinton’s. Only the Clinton’s are that resourceful, and strong. Hillary Clinton is your NOMINEE. They are the best I have ever seen.

Did anyone listen to Barack Obama’s speech today? He wants to raise taxes even though the country is just beginning a recession that may last for years —oh that will help the economy for sure! The Junior Senator from Illinois will make the recession LONG and HARD for everyone.
And, I am still pondering—First Obama said he never heard Reverend Wright make any controversial statements. Then he stated that he did hear some over the years he’s been in church. Which is true and which is false. What I do not understand is why the Press gives Hillary such a hard time about her trip to Bosnia (where there were snipers and so forth—notice in the pictures that the military people had on bullet proof vests)—yes, she embellished, probably something most of us do every day of our lives. Senator Obama can lie and turn around and say something else and the press says nothing. Has his money bought the press? He has more money than any other candidate of recent times and I hate to be the one to tell you it is NOT coming from the average citizen but special interest groups.
The Junior Senator from Illinois wants MORE government spending and MORE government regulation? How will that help the average worker in this country filling their gas tanks, buying food, or encourage job development?

He’d have to discuss the LA Times story that reported on how his fellow organizers say he took too much credit for his community organizing efforts.
He’d have to explain why he regularly claims he was a law professor when in fact he held no such title.
Sen. Obama seems to think disingenuous attacks on Sen. Clinton will address the concerns voters have about his record and readiness to be the Commander-in-Chief and the steward of our economy. They won’t.

This is typical of Democrat campaign rhetoric. Coming from Obama or Hilary Clinton makes no difference. Satisfy the masses; tell people what they want to hear and leave out the details. Why was it that they jumped all over the Republicans for the tax rebates, but now are perfectly fine in bailing out these financial institutions with obscene amount of money? Using taxpayers’ money to bail them out is helping the economy? The Democratic Party say that they want to help the middle class, but where do they think this money they want to use will come from? The government can do a whole lot more in dealing with this crisis than to write a check using taxpayers’ money. That’s’ why we have the Federal Reserves with the power to control interest rates and other financial regulations. Are we as taxpayers to pay every time the banking institutions get themselves into trouble? We all need to take a step back and analyze what Obama and Hilary Clinton are saying. The government can only stimulate the economy, not bail it out. It’s different in the real world than that of words in some speeches designed to satisfy the masses.
