McCain slams Obama as “inexperienced” on Cuba

West Palm Beach, FL — Campaigning in Florida Tuesday, Sen. John McCain attacked Sen. Barack Obama for his intention to hold talks with Cuban dictator Raul Castro–as the GOP nominee looks to appeal to the large Cuban population in the state.

“I would not in any way, as Senator Obama wants to do, legitimize an individual who has been responsible for …repression, political prisons and a gulag,” McCain said during a media availability with Florida Governor Charlie Crist.

Asked if Obama’s foreign policy meant he was “naive” McCain deferred, choosing instead to call the Illinois Democrat “inexperienced.”

“I don’t know if he is naïve or not. I know he is inexperienced…hat approach is something that I think would only serve to legitimize the person who has a many many year record, decades of record of cruelty and oppression to the people of Cuba,” McCain said.

Obama spokesperson Bill Burton responded to the comments by comparing McCain and Sen. Hillary Clinton for both pushing a policy that “has failed America and the Cuban people for fifty years.”

“John McCain and Hillary Clinton both have the experience of supporting a Bush Cuba policy that has failed America and the Cuban people for fifty years. Instead of empty rhetoric, Barack Obama actually has a strategy to help advance liberty for the Cuban people, starting with lifting all restrictions on family travel and cash remittances and pursuing direct diplomacy. Cuban Americans will be our best ambassadors for change, and will give the Cuban people more space from their regime,” Burton said in a written statement.

The only thing Obama knows how to do is lift other peoples’ speeches and take money from Rezko.

No to Obama as president and no to Obama as vice president.

Please google ” nadhmi auchi ” and then google “nadhmi auchi obama”. This man has ties to Resko and those ties lead back to Obama. He never thought the media would go after him. He is a fraud. He can’t be trusted. His troubles have just begun and if going against McCain in November he will lose. Obama has not won any true Democrat states except Iowa. That was just a fluke. Do not vote a criminal into office.

NO TO OBAMA AS PRESIDENT AND NO TO OBAMA AS VICE PRESIDENT. HE HAS TIES TO RESKO, FARRAKHAN AND NADHMI AUCHI. NO NO NO TO OBAMA

For the record the policy with Cuba goes all the way back through JFK, not George W Bush, Obama would probably blame Bush for when it rains.

I see e-mails that bash the republican nomination of John McCain. Although he was not my first choice as presidential candidate, one thing still remains: I’m still going to vote for him because he is on the republican ticket.

I am saddened that the media (NBC, MSN, etc.) has tried to demonize the Republican Party so much over the years that my generation, the “young vote,” has been trained to jump on the democratic bandwagon. It floors me when I think that the issue of Social Security never gets adequate coverage. The reason – Social Security will not be around for my generation’s retirement years, so any true light placed on this issue might endanger the leftist party’s youth vote.

I know I’m just venting here, preaching to the choir a bit, but fiscally-speaking, I don’t see how any person could make an intelligent decision to vote for whoever gets the democratic nod. Democrats attempt to appeal toward young voters, promising for lower education costs… through removing tax cuts to fund the programs. Fiscally, any vote for a democrat doesn’t make sense. I am a recent college graduate. I applied for student grants, and received not a cent. I worked full-time during my undergrad and couldn’t cover the costs, so I enlisted in the National Guard to help ease the burden. I’m not alone. Many students are in the same boat, and I shake my head in disbelief that these students want to back Obama or Clinton. If these students quit acting as one of the sheep and thought independently about their future financial responsibilities, they’d be foolish not to vote for McCain. Here’s an idea, instead of voting for someone who is surely going to up our taxes, why not make the correct choice and vote for the candidate who will allow us to get our feet on the ground – so that we will be able to make our student loan payments.

My apologies if this sounds pithy, but please share these ideas with the younger voters, asking them to sit back, alone, and truly think of the financial consequences that accompany their vote.

Thought for the day:

Both democratic nominees have made promises to the tune of over 650 billion dollars a year and yet, they can only account for about 100 billion in revenue to pay for these handouts. The 100 billion comes from letting the Bush taxe cuts to be rescinded on the upper income people (Obama says that’s $75,000 per year while Hillary says it’s $250,000 per year). Now some of you liberals out there may consider yourself wealthy at $75,000 per year but I certainly don’t. Either way, we’re left with another 550 billion dollars to come up with and I’m wondering where on earth that’s coming from.

Now, Obama, being the fiscally responsible one, says we’ll take that 12 billion dollars per day we’re spending in Iraq and use it, but what he fails to tell you and what we should already know is that we’re borrowing that money and is the real reason we’re in debt today. So we’ll exclude that idea and so I’m wondering where either of them thinks the money will come from.

500 billion! Hmmmmmm, where would they get that money? Oh, I got it, raising taxes! What is it about liberals that make them want to give everyone handouts at the expense of raising taxes across the board? And yes, across the board folks, as they already plan on taxing the rich for the 100 billion so that means we all share in the fun for the next 550 billion.

We should have never gone to Iraq, that is a given. We never should have lost any of our precious children, mothers and fathers. That too is a given. But, we are there. We invaded and were not invited there. The Iraqi people are trying hard to build a democracy and stay alive thru all the bombings by Al-Qaeda. If we leave now Al-Qaeda and Iran will take over the country. All the innocent people that tried to build a democracy will be either burned to death or beheaded and that will include all their children. Al-Qaeda believes that they must kill the complete family line. Tell me, how are you going to feel when this happens. Will you be glad? Do they deserve it? Think about it. That will be our legacy. We will go play in someone elses back yard but turn tail and run when the going gets tough. I will be ashamed of all Americans at that time. God help you all when it is your time for reckoning before god.

It appears that obama is in favor to win over mcCain. But the race will tighten up as the democrats destroy eachother. ( like they do every voting season). Also the many(not all) people who do not like obama(hillary supporters) will likely go for mcCain or nader.

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2008/president/us/general_election_mccain_vs_obama-225.html

According this poll, obama is about 5 % ahead of mcCain.

The GOP has a decent chance this november!! It will be a very close race though!

Obama says he wants to know what experience in a crisis can Senator Clinton actually claim ? What experience in foreign relations? I guess he doesn’t count her role as a Senator of New York during 9/11, and 35 years of negotiating for different causes here and abroad as real experience. I guess he is thinking 3-4 years as a community organizer is more significant. I can see why McCain is going to tear this guy to pieces.

Comment by DB

Fear not liberals, it will be us conservatives that lose as each of the three remaining presidential candidates are left. The only difference between them is that McCain says he won’t raise taxes (we’ll see) and also states he will ensure we stay in Iraq until the job is done. If we do nothing else, we must do this because to leave before the job is done ensures the death of the innocent in Iraq and emboldens the terrorist around the world.

Comment by Dork to Don

You know Don, I served in the Navy 59-63 and nothing happen during that time except the Cuban Blockade. I was 17 drinking rum and coke in Gitmo. We only fought over the nurses stationed there.

I don’t want to be hard with you but just because you and I were in the service doesn’t give us any extra insight into what our leader’s are doing. If a soldier is fighting in Iraq he or she is focused on fighting and staying alive. They know only what they’re told and only what their leaders want them too know. That’s ok, after all it would be chaotic if everyone thought for themselves during a battle.

Let me suggest something to you Don. The troops also rely on it’s country’s citizens to look out for them too. And when the President of the United States and the Vice President and Colin Powell and Condi Rice decide it’s alright to cook up phony evidence to go to war in Iraq and use it to fool the world and send young men and women to their needless deaths, I’m not looking the other way. If you want to deny what 2/3 of your fellow citizens have discovered then you’re part of the problem.

I don’t care if you were stationed in Norfolk Virginia selling ciigarettes and candy to the sailors stationed there or if you were like John McCain a hero and POW. the friggin truth is the friggin truth.

Those who want to turn this into some kind of disrespect of our fighting men and women just play into the hand of the leaders who have betrayed us all.

Comment by Miami

Perhaps Obama should travel to Venezuela where he can join the new “Venceremos” brigade, or so least sit down and have a tete-a-tete with Hugo Chavez, Castro’s buddy.

Comment by Alex

Ok, Dork, time for a real conversation. ‘Cooked up evidence’? Ok, I will admit that it is not outside the realm of possibility that this did occur. But simply because left-wing politicans (who always have their own agenda foremost in their minds) claim that Bush knowingly manipulated the evidence does not make it fact.

Let’s assume, for a moment, that it did happen that way. Let’s assume that Bush and his cabinet members did falsify information. Then, it follows that all of the congressmen and women (republicans and democrats alike) that rasied their hands to support military action based upon that information can be duped quite easily. That either makes them extremely naive or opportunistic. Either way I don’t trust any of them.

P.S. Like you, I personally disagree with the war, but your willingness to blindly swallow all of the left-wing propaganda without thinking for yourself is troublesome.

Comment by Jim

back to the article…to begin with, in the Tex. debate, there was the ignorance Obama showed to the world when he told that story about the platoon, etc…displaying a lack of knowledge about how the military is structured, etc…

next, in the Cleve. debate, he stated that he`d take action…if intel indicated that Al-Quaeda was building a base there…what?…wait a min!…this from a guy who stated he was against the war from the start?!…

when the war started, the US had intel which indicated that Al-Quaeda had bases in Iraq…the very same condition in which Obama states he`d take action over there…just like Bush did!!!

which means Obama was either lying in the debate or when he says he was against the war from the start.

btw, Hillary showed her superior experience, etc., by correctly answering this question…because a good Commander-in-Chief needs to know the facts before answering such questions…

and McCain`s right about everything he`s brought up so far about Obama`s inexperience…and note how Obama, etc., always tries to change the subject back to a meaningless speech he gave…quite simply, it`s all he has to fall back on…and he keeps going back to this extremely weak arguement…quite frankly, it isn`t working and has gotten stale now…since, when he finally did have to vote on it IN THE SENATE, he voted FOR it!!!

she was also correct in pointing out that Obama wasn`t in the Sen. at the start to vote on the war…and he`s going to say what ever makes him look good…so, of course he`s going to say that he was against the war from the start…makes him look smarter than everyone else…especially to his followers…

and speeches, etc., aren`t the same…there`s a HUGE difference between giving speeches, etc., and voting with a constituency to answer to, nearly all of who were for the war at the time…

in fact, on and just after 9/11, very nearly every American was for going to war or dropping a bomb on those responsible for what took place…especially NYer`s…

quite simply, Today`s world is too dangerous for a Pres. to be learning on the job…and openly negotiating without pre-conditions…with our enemies/terrorists…many of who HOPE every American drops dead this very moment…and would CHANGE the United States to something other than democracy…to think otherwise, like Obama, is extremely naive…or a great sign of inexperience as McCain would say…

so, i can see it now…terrorists in the streets with signs which say,

“OBAMA 08!…CHANGE EVEN WE CAN BELIEVE IN!!!”

Comment by Don

Dork,

I honor your service but suggest that it may have been just a little different then what some of the men and women of todays forces are facing.

As for the rest of your comments let me start with this. While we have learned that there were no weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, it is still a puzzle as to why all the worlds intelligence departments reported there was. Could it be the weapons left before we invaded?

Regardless though, we could not take the chance, as we knew Iraq, a sworn enemy had once had the weapons because WE (AMERICA) had supplied them gallons and gallons of such weapons as Mustard Gas, etc. We did this during the Iranina/Iraqi War and yes Dork they used them not only against the Iranians but subsequently against their own people (the Kurds).

Now, given the fact that we knew they had them , as well as knowing, we supplied them with the technology on how to produce, store, and employ them it caused us great concern. Then came Al Qaeda, another sworn enemy, and while we had no compelling evidence they were working together, we did consider the possibilities as they were neighbors and so we went forward.

Was it the right choice? Easy to say it wasn’t but I suggest that if we really consider the possibilities, we probably did the right thing. Ragrdless of right or wrong, we are now involved and while the politicians and people like you Dork argue about what is right, needed, etc, the men and women of the armed forces keep on doing what they do best; protecting your rights and freedooms by keeping you safe from enemies around the world.

So in closing, thanks again for your service, hope you did well with the girls, and good luck with whomever you support this election cycle.

Your handle sucks but Ive never heard it put better. The Republicans have been trying to sell this turkey along with the cut & run phrase for way too long. Obama wants too “CUT OUT OF IRAQ” and RUN TOWARDS BIN LADEN”. Don’s reply to you about not wanting your pity is just another part of the Brainwashing.

I’m sure there are idiots who disrespect the service men & women. I can only tell you that none of them are friends of mine. I was in the National Guard 1985 to 1987. the only action I saw was for 2 weeks a year in Indiantown Gap in Pennsy. The town was next to Hershey and everything smelled like chocolate.

We really do have a duty as citizens, don’t we? Oversight by the people is essential to us staying free and being respected by the rest of the free world. BUSH etal. have deserted us for his own goals.

Senator McCain had the opportunity to standup for us and decided that would not be in his own political interest.

You can’t build walls high enough, you can’t have enough foreign policies, you can’t have too strong of military forces. Eventually you will have someone want to take away what you have that they don’t. Freedom. We are a hated nation because we have freedoms unprecedented anywhere in the world. President Bush–make up a reason to attack them before they have a reason to attack us again?? So what! Would you rather they bring this fight to our soil? Good grief–then you all would say that we should have done something sooner. I guess 911 wasn’t enough of a wake-up call for some of you.
I too come from a military family–starting with the Revolutionary War–and all the others in between.
Obama says he’ll end the war–go ahead stupid–open the door to even bigger problems. Osama is waiting for his brother to open our door to him.
Obama also has ties with “Frank”, he refers to him as his “mentor”, like a father he was to Obama. Great! “Frank” is a KNOWN US COMMUNIST living in Hawaii with also “moderate” (yeah right) Marxist beliefs. You support Obama’s “Change”??? Be prepared for your fill of it!
To date, no one can even name ONE “change” he has made. Any legislation introduced and passed by Obama? NO!
Obama or Hillary—either one will bring significant “CHANGE” you will all

Congrats, billy boy. You’ve traded one propaganda platform (right-wing) for another (left-wing). Simply deciding to abandon the ‘conservatives’ and pledging allegiance to the ‘liberals’ doesn’t make you a free-thinker. It just means that you are choosing to accept another form of political drivel.

Good for you.

PS - the truth is actually a more complicated and less black & white version of what both sides are trying to sell to us this election year.

1. The ABILITY to deny the truth if it doesn’t suit you.

3. The WILLINGNESS to sacrifice other to meet your goals.

By the way, I think you were lying about your military service.

Glad you came back as I always enjoy debating liberals.

I know you are probably oblivious to the various agents that are listed under the weapons of mass destruction literature but it is there.

As for the rest of your comments I’ll say this. The truth is often times hidden and to suggest I deny the truth is to suggest to have all the facts. You don’t so perhaps you can concede that you may be wrong. Secondly, I have never disregarded anyone’s live be while serving in the armed forces or otherwise. Actually, just the reverse. I probably cherish life more then you could ever imagine as I have witness the loss of many an innocent man/woman. Third, I did sacrafice through my life but not for my own gain but yours and oh by the way, I am very proud of my service for over 25 years.

Ah Donnie boy, You missed the point. what a shocker!

The point wasn’t whether it might be on someones WMD list but how come you didn’t personally know what Mustard Gas is and that it’s not a weapon of mass destruction. A Service Person would have known.

The fact that it was listed as a WMD is what outed you.

You’re a phony and one of the lowest forms of phonies. One who would take crecit for someone elses sacrifice.

You remind me of the guy we’d take snipe hunting. You know the one who insists there really is a bird called a snipe to try to cover your embarrassment.

Give Don somewhat of a break, guys. Failing to properly categorize mustard gas doesn’t necessarily mean that he did not serve - at best it makes him incorrect.

Comment by gladys to alex

Mustard Gas and Nerve Gas is Basic Training 101. He bought it on himself when he told one of the guy that he hadn’t served and therefore didb’t know what he was saying. He turned out to be wrong on both counts. Wait a minute ALEX you’re not Don are you?

Comment by gladys to Kerry Marvin

You sir should not be demeaned. The road to McCain through Fred Thompson and Gomer Pyle has earned you the repect of all. Even us Democrats.

Comment by Alex

Thanks, gladys. Try following the conversation, will you?

Comment by Don

Alex,

I appreciate it but I have this one.

Dork/Billy Boy,

There’s no way for me to really prove to you that I served in the military and honestly it’s senseless because like most liberals you wouldn’t accept the truth if it hit you in the face.

I will say this though, Mustard Gas is listed as a chemical agent and was provided to the Iraqis by America and used in the Iranian war and against the kurds. As it is a chemical weapon, it falls into the category of a weapon of mass destruction as does all the Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical weapons that may be used against humanity.

With that said, I would encourage each of you to try and focus on the issues of this years election and do a little research outside of the normal liberal media outlets so you can be better informed.

the cubans are already stockpiling cigars in the wake of a break in relationships;
when nothing chances nothing chances, anybody else can travel or take holiday there;
same as china or vietnam kind of ‘westernized communism’ can’t see a problem except for
the cuban population in Dade county who had legitimate claims but thats 50 years ago.
Latin power base will loose out when nothing to shout about, so status quo is fine for them.
Even the NY philharmonic orchestre was held in North Korea without any problem, so to see baseball game aagaist the cubans would be a nice ice-beaker.

Billy Boy,

You must have made up your own polls. Obama isn’t ahead by 13 pts. in any recognized national polls. Quite the contrary my man:

LA Times: McCain by 2%
USA Today: McCain by 1%
Rasmussen: McCain by 2%

Only one I found poll from a very leftist source had Obama by 5.5%–still close to margin of error. Sorry! Too many folks now know Barak Hussein Obama got the money for his fancy digs not only from Rezko, but really only through the corrupt Rezko from Nadmi Auchi–Sadam Hussein’s bag man (the names the key)–likely came from food for oil program. Mr. Auchi was convicted of fraud in France. Met with your pal Obama in 2004 in Chicago at the Ritz Carlton Hotel. No wonder he was/is against the war in Iraq. Looks like he was/is on the payroll of Saddam and his heirs. WE DON’T NEED ANOTHER HUSSEIN!!!!

You are smokin’ dope or sniffin’ with your pal Obama (Crack or powder?)

There is no agreement internationally on what the definition of WOMD is; common international view (and in case of Iraq) is nuclear but us includes also conventional weapons, and even planes since 9/11.

“Chemical weapons expert Gert G. Harigel considers only nuclear weapons true weapons of mass destruction, because “only nuclear weapons are completely indiscriminate by their explosive power, heat radiation and radioactivity, and only they should therefore be called a weapon of mass destruction”

Ari,

Not real sure of your source but here’s a military source:

The 500 munitions discovered throughout Iraq since 2003 and discussed in a National Ground Intelligence Center report meet the criteria of weapons of mass destruction, the center’s commander said here today.

“These are chemical weapons as defined under the Chemical Weapons Convention, and yes … they do constitute weapons of mass destruction,” Army Col. John Chu told the House Armed Services Committee.

The Chemical Weapons Convention is an arms control agreement which outlaws the production, stockpiling and use of chemical weapons. It was signed in 1993 and entered into force in 1997.

The munitions found contain sarin and mustard gases, Army Lt. Gen. Michael D. Maples, director of the Defense Intelligence Agency, said. Sarin attacks the neurological system and is potentially lethal.

Talking about cigars, Alan king once said “we should give Fidel Castro Tampa and we’ll take Havana.”

On the polls I check Real Clear Politics and they list all of the current polls nationally and states. The 2 most current polls for McCain/Obama had Omama up by 7% and I think a little more in the other. the Dates on them was 3/2/08.
The polls for McCain/Clinton had her ahead also by a smaller margin.
Real Clear is the place to go. I found it originally by googleing 2008 Polls.

it’s a long way to November but if there’s a Obama and Clinton ticket it’s going to be tough to beat.

Senator McCain will need a seriously good running mate. I hope it’s Lindsay Graham. He’d be a great choice. Huckabee is too shallow and uninformed to help. In a dabate the little one liners that worked with his simple-minded supporters wouldn’t serve him well there’s also the dirty tactics he used against Senator McCain during the campaign. The one accusing the Senator of ratting on his fellow POWs was the lowest I’ve ever seen. The one casting doubts on the Senator’s citizenship was feeble and laughable. If Huckabees chosen I wouldn’t vote for a presendent this time around.

Not only is he inexperienced ….. We may have much more grave concerns over Obama….

Finally the press just might actually do their job and investigate this clown…

You guys might want to read this & then dig for the truth.

Wow you liberals all need to take a course in Macro Economics! You don’t just “take money” spent on war and now have it available for all your give away programs or get tax money by gettin rid of the “Bush tax cuts!” In a nutshell, a war economy is always more of a boom economy because of the extra production required. What happens when all those men building tanks or weapons are laid off? What about all the soldiers you are going to bring home who’ve been on the government pay roll and now need jobs in the US? (By the way, only 3% of the US budget is spent on defense and 27% on mostly worthless give away programs).

And as far as the rich paying more taxes (the Bush tax cuts really gave a big break to the middle class). The rich, the middle classand all of us with pension funds are the ones who own the big evil corporations. They are in business to make money!!! Surprise. Over tax the rich and corporations and watch the jobs go away. The rich will invest off shore and keep their money (and probably themselves) there. Then they won’t invest in US industries and watch the country slip into the deepest recession/depression in history. Corporations when taxed any more than hey currently are will go bye bye!!! Now I know you all are so in favor of the middle class wage earner, but folks if there are no wage payers, there are no wages for the wage earners. Soak the rich and you’ll economicaly KILL the poor and middle class!!! The big corporations and the Rich are the opportunity of the middle and poor.

What do low taxes to every class do to stimulate the economy(25% already pay none–no that isn’tthe rich, it is the poor)? Say you have to pay $50 less in taxes this month. You decide to buy a pair of shoes. The person who sells you the shoes now has $50 less tax (so eventually the government gets just as much tax but the consumer gets goods too) but he uses that to buy a coat for little Johnny with the amount he has less tax and so on. We are better stewards of our own money and we make the economy grow as that $50 is passed along until it is gone and taxes are paid each time it is spent. Buy a book on economics PUHLEEZ!!! Geez, you guys seem to think that there is only a pot of say $10 in he world and that if Iraq gets a dollar our someone or something else gets less. That’s how our bank accounts work, but NOT Macro economics!!

How did we here in Seattle get all the Microsoft Millionaires? That money was CREATED new as can be by value added by their technology into the world market.

Again, you can’t just “take the mony being spent on the Iraq war and spend it on giveaway programs.” The war not only costs money, it generates jobs and keeps a lot of men and women employed that will come home unemployed and need even more .

Don’t you love it when Barak says “this government will give you tuition or whatever your little heart desires!” Who is the goernment? I feel a hand in my pocket!!!! Barak promises “change” and with his programs all I might have left is a little “change.”

“THE GOVERNMENT CAN’T GIVE YOU ANYTHING THAT IT DIDN’T TAKE AWAY FROM YOU FIRST.”

Becky,

I’ve been resarching this for some time. I hope everyone is looking up Auchi–a henchman of Sadam Hussei–and its looking more and more like he not only laundered money from the oil for food program under Saddam, he conveniently loaned money to Rezko (Obama’s benefactor and probaly purchaser of BO’s mansion) in the appropriate amount and the appropriate time that it is indicated that Obama’s home and the adjacent land bought by Mrs. Rezko possibly were both bought with MONEY THAT ACTUALLY CAME FROM AUCHI!!!

No wonder Barak Hussein Obama was so against the war in Iraq!!! He met Rezko and Auchi in Chicago in 2004.

Hope the MSM is going to actually look deeply into the possible connection between the two Husseins!

Comment by The Real Barack Obama

Michelle Obama’s comment that, for the first time in her adult life, she feels proud of America helps crystallize who Barack Obama is.

To be sure, the wife of a candidate is perfectly free to have views that are distinct from her husband’s. But on a matter that is so fundamental to one’s being as love of country, it is difficult to imagine that Michelle Obama would publicly twice make such a statement suggesting disdain for America unless she felt it comported with her husband’s views.

Equally important, her statement aligns perfectly with the hate-America views of the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Barack Obama’s minister, friend, and sounding board for more than two decades. On the Sunday following 9/11, Wright characterized the terrorist attacks as a consequence of violent American policies. Four years later, Wright suggested that the attacks were retribution for America’s racism.

“In the 21st century, white America got a wake-up call after 9/11/01,” Wright wrote in his church magazine Trumpet. “White America and the Western world came to realize that people of color had not gone away, faded into the woodwork or just ‘disappeared’ as the Great White West kept on its merry way of ignoring black concerns.”

Wright has been a key supporter of Louis Farrakhan, and in December, honored the Nation of Islam leader for lifetime achievement, saying he “truly epitomize[s] greatness.”

Farrakhan has repeatedly made hate-filled statements targeting Jews, whites, America, and homosexuals.

Those who think two of the closest people to Obama could publicly make anti-America statements unless Obama himself felt that way, are fooling themselves. To date, Obama has proven himself to be nothing more than a great orator, rendering the statements of those around him even more important in illuminating his true character and agenda. During his Senate career, he skipped 17 percent of the votes and sponsored only one bill that became law. That bill was to promote “relief, security, and democracy in the Democratic Republic of Congo.”

Bereft of official accomplishments, Obama has distinguished himself mainly by being against measures that protect American security, such as finishing the mission in Iraq. If we were to leave Iraq quickly, as Obama vows he would do, it would become a launch pad for al-Qaida attacks on the U.S.

Obama avoided voting on extending the Protect America Act, thus putting America at risk when immediate interception of terrorist communications is required. Last August, Obama voted against a measure that would have allowed the U.S. to continue to monitor overseas conversations of terrorists like Osama bin Laden without first obtaining a warrant.

If his radical vote had prevailed, bin Laden would have been given the same rights as Americans.

To this day, Obama has not distanced himself from most of Rev. Wright’s comments. In a statement supposedly issued to address the matter, Obama ignored the point that his minister and friend had spoken adoringly of Farrakhan and that Wright’s church was behind the award to the Nation of Islam leader. Instead, as outlined in a Jan. 17 Newsmax article, he disingenuously claimed he thought the magazine bestowed the award on Farrakhan for his efforts to rehabilitate ex-prisoners.

Neither Wright’s encomiums about Farrakhan nor the Trumpet article mentions ex-prisoners.

Similarly, after John McCain’s wife Cindy responded to Michelle Obama’s remarks by telling a Wisconsin rally, “I have, and always will be, proud of my country,” Barack Obama told a radio interviewer that his wife did not say what people think she said. He then proceeded to rewrite her comments, claiming that she had meant she was encouraged by the “large numbers of people” who have gotten involved in the political process. Michelle Obama then made a similar revision of her remarks.

In her speech in Milwaukee, Michelle Obama said flatly, “For the first time in my adult lifetime, I am really proud of my country, and not just because Barack has done well, but because I think people are hungry for change.”

And what has been wrong with America up to now? That it gave Michelle the opportunity to attend Princeton and Harvard Law School? That it gave Barack Obama the chance to attend Columbia University and Harvard Law School and become a U.S. senator making more than $1 million a year from book royalties?

Was it that America stopped Nazi Germany from continuing to murder millions of Jews? That America has provided Africa and other countries with $15 billion to combat the spread of AIDS/HIV and that another $30 billion is on the way? That 46 percent of all Americans classified by the Census Bureau as poor own their own homes, 76 percent of them have air conditioning, and 75 percent of them have at least one car? Or that America allows us to express our views freely without fear of being put in jail, as is the case in Russia?

A lawyer, Michelle Obama is perfectly capable of expressing herself precisely. In fact, she spoke from a written speech.

Those who do not want to believe she meant what she said — and that Barack Obama could not be so close to Rev. Wright if he did not himself believe in much of what he has said — are in denial.

The real Barack Obama is starting to emerge, and for those of us who are grateful to America for everything it represents, it is not a pretty sight
