Clinton Continues NAFTA Fight in Ohio

Sen Clinton’s anger over an Obama mailer on NAFTA has resulted in a fiery mail of her own. Clinton’s Ohio flyer highlights what she calls her “consistent record of protecting American workers” on the front — and attacks Obama’s record on the back, citing an AP report from 2004 that Obama had said the US should pursue more deals like NAFTA.

“False Attack Alert: Don’t Be Fooled by Barack Obama,” it reads. “Americans Can’t Afford Barack Obama.”  (You can check it out it here: 08-02-25-nafta-mailer.pdf)

She’s also reaching out to Ohio voters with a new robocall on the trade issue — a critical one in a state that has lost hundreds of thousands of manufacturing jobs this decade.

“This is Hillary Clinton calling to set the record straight,” she says in the recording. “Senator Obama has sent out attack mailers that distort my record on NAFTA, but I believe Ohio deserves the truth.

“NAFTA has hurt Ohio families and I have a plan to fix it.  My opponent does not. I’ll appoint a Trade Prosecutor to enforce our trade agreements, and crackdown on China’s unfair trade practices. I’ll eliminate tax breaks for companies that ship our jobs overseas, and invest in creating good jobs right here in Ohio.

Ohio needs solutions, not distortions.  With your support on March 4th, we can jumpstart the economy and get Ohio back to work.”

Facts That Huckabee Haters Don’t Want People to Know:

Huckabee is recognized as a national leader, having been honored by several renowned publications and organizations for his numerous accomplishments. Governing Magazine named him as one of its ‘Public Officials of the Year’ for 2005, Time Magazine honored him as one of the five best governors in America…

Huckabee is past chairman of the National Governors’ Association (NGA) and chairman of the Education Commission of the States.

As former chairman of the Interstate Oil & Gas Compact Commission, Huckabee worked with the 37-state coalition to develop energy policy and lobby Congress on energy matters, such as the regulation of oil and gas production. He also is known nationally for his focus on technology in state government. He created an automobile license renewal system that’s become a model for states across the country. Huckabee directed the creation of other advancements that have made Arkansas a technology leader among the states.

Eleanor Roosevelt and Hillary Rodham Clinton:

Anna Eleanor Roosevelt (she preferred her middle name) led a comparable life to Hillary Rodham Clinton. After discovering the unfaithfulness of her husband, Franklin Delano Roosevelt in 1918 (and it is well known that FDR never severed his relationship with Lucy Mercer who was at his bedside when he died) Eleanor respected her marriage vows.

Although the marriage survived, Eleanor Roosevelt emerged a different woman, coming to the realization that she could achieve fulfillment only through her own influence and life, not someone else’s. She provided an enduring example of a feminist who transcended the dictates of her times to become one of the century’s most powerful and effective advocates for social justice.

Eleanor worked tirelessly for unions, child welfare and women’s rights. She never let the intense criticism that she encountered silence her. Her famous quote: “If I worried about mudslinging, I would have been dead long ago”

“A woman is like a tea bag - you never know how strong she is until she gets into hot water” was another of her quotes.

World-renowned, respected, and admired, Eleanor Roosevelt made many lasting and meaningful contributions to the welfare of mankind which have stood the rigorous test of time. Her humanitarian efforts on behalf of children, the oppressed and the poor earned her the love of millions throughout the world.

Hillary Rodham Clinton entered Wellesley College in 1965. Graduating with high honors, she moved on to Yale Law School, where she served on the Board of Editors of the Yale Review of Law and Social Action. While at Yale, she developed her special concern for protecting the best interests of children and their families. It was there that she met Bill Clinton, a fellow student.

In 1973, Hillary became a staff attorney for the Children’s Defense Fund. A year later she was recruited by the Impeachment Inquiry staff of the Judiciary Committee of the U.S. House of Representatives to work on the Watergate Impeachment proceedings.

Hillary left Washington and followed her heart to Arkansas, marrying Bill Clinton in 1975. The couple taught together on the law faculty of the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. Their daughter, Chelsea, was born in 1980.

As First Lady of Arkansas, Hillary continued to work tirelessly on behalf of children and families. In addition to chairing the Arkansas Education Standards Committee, she founded the Arkansas Advocates for Children and Families. She introduced a pioneering program called Arkansas Home Instruction for Preschool Youth, which trained parents to work with their children in preschool preparedness and literacy. Hillary also served on the board of the Arkansas Children’s Hospital. In recognition of her professional and personal accomplishments, Hillary was named Arkansas Woman of the Year in 1983 and Arkansas Mother of the Year in 1984.

As First Lady of the United States, she took a prominent position in policy matters. She traveled extensively to visit other heads of state in many lands and gained experience in foreign relations. Her major initiative, the Clinton health care plan, failed to gain approval by the U.S. Congress in 1994, but in 1997 she helped establish the State Children’s Health Insurance Program and the Adoption and Safe Families Act. The state of her marriage to Bill Clinton was the subject of considerable public discussion following the Lewinsky scandal in 1998. However, Hillary made a decision to keep her marriage vows.

After moving to New York, Clinton was elected as senator for New York State in 2000; this was the first time an American First Lady ran for public office and she is the first female senator from that state. She was re-elected by a wide margin in 2006.

Women who criticized Eleanor and now sling mud at Hillary are women who do not have the courage to claim their own identity. Men who doubt their masculinity will join in mud slinging because they fear women’s abiity when they have confidence in their identity.

Obama’s Appeal Depends on Your Definition of Change
By Stuart Rothenberg

Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) continues to promise change and stress his ability to unite Americans. It’s a feel-good campaign built on soaring rhetoric and good intentions.

Pardon me if all of the fawning from the national media, and the endorsements from Caroline Kennedy and Garrison Keillor, leave me less than convinced that he can bridge the deep divide that separates Americans.

Withdrawing U.S. troops from Iraq won’t bring Americans together. Nor will raising taxes on the affluent or enhancing the power of organized labor to recruit more members. Even a stem-cell research bill won’t bring Americans together, though a clear majority surely supports it.

In politics, the devil is always in the details, and except in rare cases, Obama has either avoided them or, more importantly, failed to note the obvious contradictions in his message and his record.

Yes, Obama is a wonderful speaker, and his calls for change obviously resonate with many Americans. With seven out of 10 Americans agreeing that the country is headed off on the wrong track, it isn’t surprising that every candidate has talked change. No one has promised a third Bush term.

The question, of course, is what kind of change? Does Obama want to find common ground between Democrats and Republicans? Will he push issues and alternatives only with a national consensus? Or is “change” simply a value-neutral word for liberalism?

In the spring of 2005, 14 Senators tried to make Washington run more smoothly by signing an agreement for the 109th Congress that had the effect of killing Democratic plans to filibuster President Bush’s appointees to the appellate bench and eliminating a GOP strategy that would disallow filibusters of judicial appointments.

Barack Obama, who talks about changing the tone in Washington, didn’t join that “Gang of 14.”

Part of the problem with Obama’s message — and part of the reason it has so far been successful in his White House bid — is that different people read different things into his message of hope and change.

During an interview on a Washington, D.C., radio station the morning of the Potomac primary, Sen. Edward Kennedy (D-Mass.) talked about why he is drawn to Obama’s message of change. One didn’t need to read very hard between the lines to see that Kennedy thinks “change” means a dramatically more liberal agenda.

There is, of course, nothing surprising or wrong with this. You would expect Kennedy to support a candidate with whom he agrees.

But other voters, including some Republicans and many independents, seem to be attracted to Obama because they see him as someone who will improve the tone in Washington, bring Americans together and “get things done.”

Again, those are understandable goals. The only problem is that Kennedy’s view of Obama and the other one are all but impossible to reconcile.

If Obama satisfies Kennedy and the Democratic Party’s most liberal constituencies, it’s unlikely that he is going to bring the country together. And if Obama does truly take steps to find a middle ground between liberals and conservatives, Democrats and Republicans, he certainly will disappoint his party’s base.

The reality is that half of the country leans Democratic and half leans Republican. Yes, there are some issues on which many Americans agree, but if Obama limits himself to those, he’ll have a thin agenda.

Instead, Obama is likely to strike out in a different direction from Bush. And if he thinks his communication skills alone will bring along the whole country (as he seems to), he is deluding himself. America is divided because Americans have very different views.

Obama was rated the most liberal Member of the U.S. Senate in 2007, up from the 10th most liberal Member in 2006 and the 16th most liberal in 2005. That suggests that he will follow a rather predictably liberal agenda if he is elected president later this year.

Even more telling, possibly, was a recent interview Obama gave to television anchor Leon Harris and journalist John Harris. In it, Obama tried to have things both ways.

When he was asked by Leon Harris how he reconciles his support for the D.C. gun ban, which was declared unconstitutional by a federal court last year and which bars all handguns not registered before 1976, with his statement that he has “no intention of taking away folks’ guns,” Obama launched into a confusing explanation of “conflicting traditions in this country.”

He ended his monologue by saying, “We can have a reasonable, thoughtful gun control measure that I think respects the Second Amendment and people’s traditions.” But the D.C. gun ban is based on the premise that the Second Amendment doesn’t give individuals the right to own a gun.

Maybe if Obama wraps up the Democratic nomination in the next few weeks, he’ll give all of us a better idea of what he’d really like to do as president. We can only hope so. Another eight months of soaring but empty rhetoric about bringing people together and bringing about change will leave most of America brain-dead.

As an ENFP Obama can hide in the open . He will open a fact without pointing to the center . Obama will ,skirt it . He will openly talk around it HOPING the people he is talking to will use their N and get to the center . This is not helpful …mostly it is terrifying for Obama to actually out and say what is at the center of an issue . Please ask me to explain .

Obama Continues To Mislead on Hillary and NAFTA
2/24/2008 1:54:42 PM

“Senator Obama’s insistence on repeating attacks that have been demonstrated to be false by independent entities proves once and for all that his speeches about the new politics are just words. That’s not change you can believe in.”
—Clinton spokesman Phil Singer

Today, Sen. Obama said the following:

And yesterday, Senator Clinton also said I’m wrong to point out that she once supported NAFTA. But the fact is, she was saying great things about NAFTA until she started running for President.
This is false. Hillary criticized Sen. Obama for sending out a mailer that claimed she said NAFTA was a “boon to the economy” when she never did. Today, the University of Pennsylvania’s FactCheck.org concluded “We do judge that the Obama campaign is wrong to quote Clinton as using words she never uttered, and it has produced little evidence that she ever had strong praise of any sort for NAFTA’s economic benefits.”

Also, Hillary has been critical of NAFTA long before she started running for President. For example, here’s Hillary in March 2000:

What happened to NAFTA I think was we inherited an agreement that we didn’t get everything we should have got out of it in my opinion. I think the NAFTA agreement was flawed. The problem is we have to go back and figure out how we are going to fix that. [Working Families Party, 3/26/00]
Sen. Obama touts his consistent opposition to NAFTA. But speaking in Illinois in 2004 Obama said the United States “benefited enormously” from exports under NAFTA and talked about the need to continue to pursue trade agreement like NAFTA that support “a system of free trade in this nation that allows us to move our products overseas.”

His wife has never been proud of our country (until last week), he won’t publicly deny that he is not a Muslim, what else do you need to hear?

No2Obama, I think your post is the only one on topic!

What I really hate about this NAFTA thing is that Obama was supportive of it in 2004. Even though Clinton keeps saying she isn’t happy with it now and didn’t do as intended, Obama keeps right on pushing his agenda of ignorance and tells anyone who will listen that she supports it now! He links it to China, which from my understanding isn’t part of NAFTA. He’s playing on people’s fears of jobs being shipped overseas.

I just gotta wonder too, do Obama supporters really see this as not negative attack?

As I Watch the News, from the various channels and Alphabet soup of Names,
There is a Glaring Discrepancy for the Fair and Balanced Viewpoint.

The Polarization that ensures, they Espouse the, Point of View expressed,

Or the Right Wing, are in such disproportions it boggles the mind.

The supposition that they are only Reporting, Is as Ludicrous as The re-definition
Of the Word “IS” IS! And their Reporting, is so Bi-ass’d as to show their political
Diversity? I have seen Nothing, to Tell me they are Fair nor Balanced.
That sometimes, Includes Fox News.

However, that being said, I watched HaNnity’s Program “The Price We Pay”
on the Border Crisis! I am Incensed and appalled by;

The Lack of this congress and senate to address this issue, with the failed and
Broken system they have been responsible for. And done nothing for the states that
Have repeatedly, REQUESTED AID TO FIX THIS.
THE BORDER FENCE WAS PASSED AND FUNDED, YET IT IS STILL NOT BEING DELT WITH.
And STILL, with no response from congress AND not the senate EITHER, to remedy this!

AGAIN, Our Citizens are being Kidnapped, our border Agents Killed by the Drug Cartels
And The Mexican Government abets and enables their open hostilities against America!

When are the American people going to wake up? When we have to Arm Ourselves
In accordance with, the second amendment, Just to Protect our hearth and kin?
Never mind the border? There is a Real and Present Danger on our Broken Border!

THE CONGRESS AND SENATE DEMOCRATIC PARTY;
ARE NOT ONLY THE “CUT AND RUN” BUT THE “GET NOTHING DONE”

BACKFLIPS AND BACKSTABBING THE AMERICAN PEOPLE, WHILE THE BORDERS
ARE OVERRUN WITH DRUGS AND ILLEGAL ALIENS, AND TREASON BY ANY LIGHT
OF THEIR OATH TO PROTECT THE U.S.A AND THE RIGHTS OF IT’S; CITIZENS!

“NOT THE ILLEGAL” INVADERS, WHO DEMAND FREE EVERYTHING, WHILE;
TRUE AMERICANS ARE DENIED ANYTHING RESEMBLING JUSTICE!

There Are Repercussions to the Politicians and the State and Local Officials,
Who WILL NOT Protect the American People, in Preference; for the
“Illegal Alien Invasion of America!”

Lou Dobbs and Hannity are right, The Left Wing, Soros, and Move-On are so embedded
with the Democratic Party,

that they will “Not Do” anything to Upset the: “FAR LEFT WING”And Donors TO:
