In Colorado, Huckabee Meets Dobson, Defends Paid Speech
Colorado Springs, CO-
Mike Huckabee, left the campaign trail on Friday, for his 2nd paid speaking engagement in a week, and an hour close-door meeting with prominent supporter Dr.James Dobson, founder of Focus on The Family. At a press conference held in front of the Focus on the Family headquarters, but off the campus, Huckabee would not disclose the specifics discussed during the sit-down, only that it was an informal “personal meeting”. Dobson aides also would not offer any details on the conversation between the two religious conservatives, and friends. Huckabee hit back, however, when FNC questioned him on his paid speech at the Leadership Program of the Rockies, a bi-partisan conservative training forum for political activists. Huckabee’s target? His presidential competitors, most of whom, like GOP presumptive nominee, John McCain, are United States senators. “If I were a sitting senator, I would be expected to be in Washington, that’s how I would get my paycheck,” he said to reporters, and about 25 supporters. “Unfortunately, the people I’m paying to be sitting senators aren’t showing up at their desk. You know, if you don’t show up at work, you get fired. These guys are not showing up for work and are expecting us to give them a better job.” Huckabee’s primary source of income in the past couple of year has been the paid speech circuit, and this event was scheduled months ago, but only recently made public. Huckabee, who will be on Saturday Night Live tonight, was also asked about who he thought would make a good Obama impersonator on the show. SNL, known for their political satire, is searching for a suitable actor or comedian to play that role. Huckabee didn’t offer up any suggestions for the Democratic frontrunner, but said he knew who be a good fill in for him. “If I couldn’t show up they were going to either get Brad Pitt or George Clooney, ” he said, smiling.

If one more reporter questions Huckabee’s right to make a living I’m going to scream. The three senators in the race can go around the country campaigning, neglecting their Senate duties, and still get paid. Huckabee can’t. Taxpayers aren’t paying his salary. The campaign isn’t paying his salary. He has to schedule a paid speech every once in a while to pay his bills. And he gets jumped on for doing this? Ya’ll are nuts.
Chris - maybe if anybody cared what Huck was saying, these types of questions would go away.
Let’s see if, all 3 senators were doing their duties all the time, that wouldn’t leave them any time to campaign and that would help your man Huck.
By the way, Fin - I’m not lumping you in with that nauseating group of reporters. You’ve been pretty fair in your treatment of the Governor. You report the facts, show some video, make a few comments (never disrespectul) and allow us to draw our own conclusions. That’s what journalism used to be like. Nice to see someone actually trying to practice some “fair and balanced” reporting. Your network doesn’t but it’s good to see the embed trying to.
Thanks Chris for reading our blog. We appreciate you readers very much. Thank you!
Vanilla Ice - You’re missing the point. Nobody is telling the senators to stop campaigning. I’m simply suggesting that there is some hypocrisy here. The senators don’t have to work to pay bills because they get a salary whether they show up to work or not. Huckabee doesn’t. He has to give a speech here and there to pay the bills - and gets lambasted for it. Reporters ask if he’s taking the campaign seriously. They ask if the campaign is in trouble. They ask why he isn’t out campaigning. If the senators go back to Congress to vote, do the reporters ask them if they’re taking the campaign seriously? No. Therein lies the hypocrisy.
Huckabee is the only true hope for our country. I admire him for his ethics and not taking money in return for political favors.
It is pitiful that John McCain is taking money being laundered by lobbyist. We don’t need another 4 years of George Bush. Didn’t he learn anything working with lobbyist Jack Abramoff. John is becoming a bond servant to the donors of this money. How many government contracts will he awarded to these sham organizations in return for their campaign contributions.
Huckabee is the best Prsidential candidate. He is the ONLY one doing the right thing.
Those other candidates who are sitting senators are sucking taxpayers money while absent from the senate.
Let me remind all that in US History, only 2 SITTING SENATORS ever won the Presidency and both of them died in office - one because of heart attack and the other shot dead.
So Texas & IOWA & the other remaining states do vote for Huckabee because all the others are SITTING SENATORS.
Huckabee for President.
Good luck to Huck. I will vote for Obama before I will vote for a traitor like McCrap on the GOP ticket.
Robert Riley Jr.,
You admire Huckabee for his ethics?! He is anything but ethical:
6. Governor Mike Huckabee (R-AR): Governor Huckabee enjoyed a meteoric rise in the polls in December 2007, which prompted a more thorough review of his ethics record. According to The Associated Press: “[Huckabee’s] career has also been colored by 14 ethics complaints and a volley of questions about his integrity, ranging from his management of campaign cash to his use of a nonprofit organization to subsidize his income to his destruction of state computer files on his way out of the governor’s office.” And what was Governor Huckabee’s response to these ethics allegations? Rather than cooperating with investigators, Huckabee sued the state ethics commission twice and attempted to shut the ethics process down. — Judicialwatch.org

Ahh, Shelby. A kindred spirit. I am so tired of Huckabee supporters saying…well…all the bull they keep saying. The man is a moron. The only reason, as it seems, he is in this race is to keep face time so he can get speaking gigs. There is no other reason for him to be in. He is barely campaigning, and he can’t win. I love the people who think they can. They really do believe it. Isn’t sad how many people don’t understand math. If everyone voted for him from now on, HE WOULD STILL LOSE.
The guy is a shmuck. I am past trying to show his supporters how horrible of a choice his is, because they are stupid enough to fall for him, so they are too stupid to listen. I have, therefore, started name calling. It is a bit more fun, and I get funnier responses. All based on about as many facts as they use to support their absolutely abysmal candidate.
It’s amazing to me that anyone would fault somebody else for trying to make a living!!! I am so SICK of the comments that are directed at Mike Huckabee!! He doesn’t have a job, people, so he needs to earn a little money now and again to pay his bills. His wife left her job in October to help him campaign. That should give any doubters of Mike Huckabee a real “look” at the passion in his heart to change the course of America for its betterment……..a man who passionately believes in our country and what it CAN be under his watch.
If you want someone to gripe about, attack the other candidates who are still elected officials and have virtually taken a “leave of absence” from their jobs to campaign! And, guess what? You and I are still paying their salaries!!!! Most people would have been fired long ago in that very same scenario!
I believe in the honesty and integrity Mike Huckabee has demonstrated throughout his campaign. He has remained steadfast amidst the total hailstorm of criticism from the media and the pundits. His message has remained constant and true. He IS the only candidate that I would vote for. Huckabee IS the man to be our president!
Ike,
Ditto everything you said! Thank God after one more race and he’ll be gone. Oh wait, he’s too stupid and full of himself to get out–he’ll milk this and his stupid supporters for all their worth!
I’ll check back in a while to see what’s up. Keep up the good work getting a rise out of them!
Just beware: Huck’s followers dislike me for sharing the truth about Huck and have in the past used my name in pro Huck, anti-Romney, anti-Mormon posts. If it sounds weird it’s not me okay!
p.s. Just goes to show the juvenile nature of huck’ supporters.
Are you aware that the judge in the computer hard-drive destruction case recently came back with a ruling? No. You probably weren’t aware of that. All you want to do is spread ACCUSATIONS. For the record: just because a complaint is FILED doesn’t mean it is TRUE. Go back and check the records on the ethics complaints filed against the Governor. The reason you don’t hear the national media beating that drum any more is because they went to Arkansas and looked. Unfortunately for them, there wasn’t anything worth reporting.
And FYI: In the case of the computer hard-drive complaint ….. it was DISMISSED.
__________________________
KATV7: A judge has dismissed a lawsuit against Mike Huckabee accusing the former governor of illegally using government funds to crush state computer hard drives…….. Parsons, a self-described political gadfly, has filed other ethics complaints against Arkansas politicians. The state Ethics Commission previously dismissed two complaints that Parsons filed against Huckabee over the hard drives’ destruction.
I just read an article stating that Huckabee met with James Dobson and we all know this. The also stated article that “Huckabee vies to pick up delegates” won by Mitt Romney and this would give his campagn a boost and that he was encouraged by the meeting. Has anyone else read anything about Romney’s 43 delegates in Colorado?
When you look up the words ‘aggressive’ and ‘obnoxious’ and “wrong” in the dictionary, you see a picture of the commercial media.
It sure would be nice to have a real choice, for the President.
Someone we could All be Proud of, Not Just the Black Ex-Prez Clinton!
Maybe then Michelle Would Have One Too, Like one that supports the troops,
and honor’s the flag and the country too.
All we have running now, on the democratic side, are backslapping,
back stabbing, back sliders, who only want one thing.
The Same Thing the “JIHADISTS” Want!
They want us out of the Middle East and back safe?
Where? Behind, our broken borders?
“That they, the Congress and the Senate will not fix, nor defend?”
For the Country to actually Vote,
for either of these candidates, is to me incredulous!
Who in their right mind, Oh, Never mind, I mean their; Left, Behind mind?
No Pun Intended!
Their Mindset is as Ruinous for the Economy and the Defense of this Nation!
As “IS”, their rhetoric; is to the Political Tensions, All, Around the World!
Our Enemies Are Listening to; All of their Statements, and are eating this, Crap Up!
If they OSAMA, Hezbollah, Chavez and Iran; could Vote.
I Believe it would be for either one of the Democrats.
But their preference would be, “OBAMA!”
So Try a Reality, Check and Get some thing (?) Anything, Done?
In Congress and/or in the Senate to CHANGE this NOW!
Not to mention the Patriot Act; they Wouldn’t “ACT” ON. (?)
And haven’t got, a Clue What to do about either, other than Blame: BUSH?
O.K. So What? So, Get Real, it’s not always, about the most popular, nor electable?
IT’S About The “Real and Present Danger” to:
The Safety of this Nation! Who Will Defend the U.S. And, the Constitution?
And, the Bill of rights, if not the “Oath of Office” for the President?
Some Other Candidate? YES, But; Not Theirs!
That’s Who. Go HUCKABEE< MCCAIN ANYBODY BUT;
THE Daemon-crats…………………….Disgusting Choices there!
Right on Chris!
I think Shelby and Chris are one in the same, a split personality. She really needs counseling!
Shelby,
Chris is the epitome of a Huckabee supporter. I’ll paraphrase: Look, Look, when my candidate destroyed records and wasted a ton of money doing it, it wasn’t technically illegal. I won’t bother to mention that when he broke campaign finance laws because he paid himself out of it.
I have really stopped pointing out Huckabee’s grossly enormous political faults, to finding people online that are stupid enough to follow him, and see how stupid they can be when defending him.
I dont’ think he will get out though. I am not telling him to. That is his choice. Another very stupid one, politically. I guess it helps is career as a theologian. Oh wait, he doesn’t actually have a Theology degree like he said he did during a debate.
NIce research btw, but it doesn’t work. Hucks supporters wouldn’t sink so low as to actually looking at what the man has done. That would take way to much effort than continuing to bleet.
It’s apparent that the news media has taken the bait and are reporting that Mike Huckabee can not win the primary. BUT, if he can make it to the convention and has a chance to address it, then it would be a fair campaign, at least. This man has come out of nowhere, nationally speaking, to offer his services. If you remember, he won in Iowa and did so well amongst ten candidates in the debates that his campaign was able to raise some much needed money, since he didn’t have the fortune that Romney had available. In the face of all this, he is still visible and working his heart out to serve his country. We are, after all, a CHRISTIAN country ( 76%, 54% protestant, 24% catholic) and so I ask you why can’t we have an unapologetic Christian for President? Have the masses been so brain washed with the phrase ’separation of church and state’ that a former preacher and two and a half term governor can’t be expected to win? McCain has had plenty of notoriety some good and some bad, but Huckabee is a winner, who can truely give the conservative message. He could out debate Clinton and Obama even if he had to debate them at the same time. Let McCain be his vice president. As for me and my house, I’m for Mike.
Christians started this country and instituted all the wonderful political systems that have permitted the liberty that we enjoy. The liberty that has been spread over the world. Yes, and will continue to be spread if the republicans can win in November. We need more Christians in government. People who aren’t afraid to stand on God’s Word.
Huckabee is becoming a huge joke.

Oh my - looks like Huckabee was prescient!
From http://www.theregister.co.uk/2007/08/30/governors_data_sold_on_ebay/ (FYI, Beebe was Huckabee’s successor in AR)
Quote:
From the files of IT bloopers comes this cautionary tale: a California man stumbled upon a stash of confidential data belonging to the Arkansas Democratic Party after its computer consultant accidentally sold a hard drive containing the material on eBay.
Bill Ries-Knight, also an IT consultant, purchased the 120 GB Seagate hard drive for $69. Although the drive had been advertised as new, Ries-Knight quickly discovered it contained scores of files created by high-level party officials while campaigning for Mike Beebe, who successfully won the state’s governorship last November.
Among the files were documents listing the private cell phone numbers of political allies, including US Senators Blanch Lincoln and Mark Pryor and US Representatives Marion Berry, Mike Ross and Vic Snyder. It also included talking points to guide the candidate as he called influential people whose support he sought.
Quote:
“The moral of the story: if you have sensitive information, encrypt it,” Ries-Knight said. Better yet, he adds, “use a hammer. You can’t do better than to actually destroy the data.”
The computer originally belonged to the director of the Ark. Dem. Party, Bruce Sinclair:
Quote:
For Sinclair’s part, however, the incident was a wakeup call showing just how easy it is for unsecured data to leak in the most unpredictable ways.
“This is an unfortunate situation,” he told us. “I will take proper precautions in the future so it doesn’t happen again.”
I’d say Gov. Huckabee was acting with foresight and prudence, wouldn’t you?
To the “other” Chris. Very clever to use my name …. but just a little childish. We can have grown-up conversations on here without playing little games.
I don’t buy that Huckabee did anything wrong in destroying harddrives after he left office. I wouldn’t throw my own computer/hardrive into the garbage dump. It would be too risky. As a practical matter, the military has to do it. All government has to do it. Would you want the Veteran’s Administration just to throw used computers into the garbage? Doctor’s offices have to do it to protect patient’s rights to privacy. (They also are fast moving towards encryption.) I can tell you that the University where I work has to do it and in the case of our government it has to be done quite often to protect our country’s legitimate secrets.
Some of you are so mean spirited. Do some honest evaluations of the man and see that those ethics complaints don’t hold water, that the media has given him no chance from the get go, and that he has always been what he said he was. They initially laughed at him, said he had an unholy alliance with McCain to steal votes from Romney, and now are against him just so McCain can walk away with the vote, which cheats other states out of their choice. All along, he has done what he said he intended to do–run for president. Be honest and do honest evaluations before you bash him. GO HUCK!!!

To the Shelby and Ike smear team:
Question: Do you consider yourselves good people or a good person if there is only one of you?
Ike and Shelby we get the point, Mike Huckabee is not perfect.
Perfect people scare me.
You make me want to vote for Huckabee even more.
I wish the mormons would leave these blogs. I never gave mormons much thought one way or the other. But now, after reading their posts week after week, I know that I do not like these people. Unfortunetly, this will stay with me for a long time. If romney’s name ever pops up again, I will assoiate it with all the hate and bigotry I have read on these blogs.
Wow, now this is fine journalism! Fox sucks.
This is ONE time I agree with Huckabee. He does have a right to earn his living. In the olden days, honorable people resigned from their senate positions if they were making a bid for the presidency. You’ll note that Romney did not run for a second term as governor because he intended to run for the presidency. Ron Paul alone has attended to every congressional obligation while running for the nomination and still holding office.
So Obama, Hillary, and McCain are all willing to not show up for work, expect and accept a paycheck for no job done, so they’ll have something to fall back on if they lose.
Tex,
I’m sure it goes both ways. Mormons and secularists are not likely to forget Huckabee and his theocracy-seeking supporters.
No One seems to understand Grrr. The real reason Huckabee can not win is because he would eliminate the IRS and implement the fair tax. The media controls everything you see and hear in other words we are deaf dumb and blind to reality. The reality is our current tax code is broken. The mega wealth use tax shelters to limit their tax liability (legalized cheating). The poor get earned income credit, which is a redistribution of wealth. If these groups of people paid their fair share the middle class would not be trapped in a system that funnels all their money to a bank. Wether it’s a motgage, car payment, loan, or credit card the majority of the middle class just funnel money to the rich thru banks and oligopolies. Right now you have two choices Home depot or Lowes, Target or Walmart, best buy or circuit city. Please do not listen to the media do your homework vote issues not candidates. Go thru each issue and find the candidate supports you on issues. Don’t listen to the stupid media stories the election is to important to just be influenced by “stories” Huckabee is not a theocrat McCain didn’t sleep with the woman Hillary is not evil and Barrack is not a muslim. So stick to real life issues and please vote your position on issues. Even though the media has told me for a month that huckabee is out and that he pulled out of florida during their primary when he did not and blah blah blah. I’m voting for him because he supports a Fair Tax and that is why I will vote for him.

Huckabee is the only candidate we can evaluate. The others talk and talk. But, records show they say one thing and do another. If you vote for Obama, Hitlery or even McCain, you have no idea what you are going to get. Hitlery spent 7.5 million for surveys - What do the people want to hear?
Obama is talking like he’s going to do something. How does he know? It’s like the freshman rookie on the wrestling team boasting about winning the next tourney - Sure, there’s a 1% chance. But, truth is, No smart coach will put him on the varsity team. Remember: There are international players out there: cut-throats like Putin and loud mouths like Chavez. How will slick talking Obama play with Putin? Putin will run circles around him.
I really can only see Huckabee being wiser than the New Super Power Russia.
Stop crying about legal activity Huck did. Your Obama is 9th cousin to George W. and Hitlery is surrounded by so much death, murder and scandal, where to start?
Every day Huckabee stays in the race his expenses are paid by his campaign. He’ll take advantage of that free ride until he’s forced to get out. It’s shameful the way he has stayed only to live off others and to have his ego stroked, obviously he thrives on attention. Als, he hoped to end up w/more delegates than Romney-but even after several more primaries, he hasn’t been able to achieve it. The Huckster has many people fooled….he’s manipulative, petty and full of empty one liners that appeal to those that don’t really pay attention. Hopefully this will be the end of his relevance in the Repulican party-we can do better. Go home already.
Amen Lily! It is beyond disgusting the behavior of Huckaphony, and really sad that he’s been able to con so many.
Nothing wrong with Huckabee taking time off campaigning to make a buck. Candidates have to make money to support their families, if needed. Or are only independently wealthy people allowed to run for President?
If Huckabee wants to stay in the race, why not? Let democracy work. If McCain has the nomination in the bag, then there is nothing he needs to worry about. Both candidates are campaigning with dignity and respect to one another. There will be PLENTY of time between the last primary and November, and due to the civility of both candidates, there will be no fences that need to be mended.
I see the continued debate and campaign as positive for the Republican party.
I am a moron anything I say is 100% BULL!
Shelby: I totally agee with you. you always tell it like it is.
Shelby, ike:
I think the three us should get married and move to Utal.
There are tons of great reviews about Mike Huckabee all over the news. I barely read any rave reviews (or even lukewarm reviews) about McCain on these blogs.
Huckabee supporters are fired up about him. Huckabee is really connecting with the American citizens. Whereas McCain supporters are not fired up about McCain at all, they are just casting their vote for him because the establishment bosses told them to do so. They have no excitement about their candidate.
McCain is going to get thumped on in the general election against Obama. The Republican party establishment didnt learn their lesson when they got thumped on in the 2006 House & Senate election campaigning on the theme of “My way or the Highway” attitude that John McCain is delivering.
Unless Ohio and Texas voters come to the rescue and vote for Huckabee a dynamic charasmatic leader, than the Republican party is doomed forever. Mike Huckabee has the charisma to go one on one with Obama in the Ring.
Wake up Republican party bosses!! you are about to bring down the Republican party platform with your greedy pride to rule over others. You would rather show your power than share your power.

Tex: you said in on another post that “I could never vote for Romney, Not because he is a bad guy. I would never vote for him because his strong gase of Mormon followers are the most bigoted group of people that ever walked the face of the earth.”
I responded “Are you kidding me about Mormons being the most bigoted people on earth. Could you please share with everyone why you feel that. Because most of Utah voted for him in the primary. Maybe because they are the ones who felt the affects of how great the Winter olympics helped their economy and how Romney was a major part of why that was able to happen. Why don’t you share with us all the anti-Huckabee or McCain websites that Mormons have created unlike the anti-Romney ones Huckabee supporters have created. You will have a hard time finding any. The leaders of the Mormon church’s policy is to not sponsor or endorse any candidate, but to vote for those who best represent your values. It is bigots like you who are one of many who have created anti-Romney websites and base it solely on his faith with misrepresentations. I can tell you that a majority of Mormons would never vote for Harry Reid, eventhough he is Mormon. People like you disgust me. I do not believe Romney tried to misquote Huckbee’s baptist faith to gain political ground with Evangelicals, and when he started receiving alot of heat from the media he recanted on his accusation. I do not believe Romney’s faith has ever said that Baptist and other denominations are not Christian. The way the Baptist have said Mormonism is not a true Christian religion, eventhough the official name of the Mormon church is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I do not believe Romney ever had to ask local pastors to encourage their congregations on who to vote for. So give me a break. If people want to vote for Mike Huckabee because he is evangelical and they are to, then more power to them. If people want to vote for Romney because he is Mormon, than more power to them. I personally, do not feel anyone should vote for someone based upon their faith, race, or gender as I have said many times. However, it is human nature. It is wrong when people mistate facts or take out of context, and even make up lies about someone. So again please explain to everyone on this blog why Mormons are the most biggoted people who have walked the face of the earth.”
You then say ” wish the mormons would leave these blogs. I never gave mormons much thought one way or the other. But now, after reading their posts week after week, I know that I do not like these people. Unfortunetly, this will stay with me for a long time. If romney’s name ever pops up again, I will assoiate it with all the hate and bigotry I have read on these blogs.”
Please copy and paste all the mormon biggotry comments posted on these blogs. If there are any, it is real bigots like you doing this and claiming it to be Mormons. You can tell the difference from real Mormons defending all the anti-Mormon bigotry that people like you are spewing. I have never seen such false accusations made and statments taken out of context towards a candidates faith in all my life. The amazing thing is that these people call themselves Christians. Christ never did that. He did not have to have oranizations that would distort ones faith. However, when people like you, who are modern day pharasees, would manipulate or lie about his teaching, he would correct them with what he truly said. This is what Mormons are doing when people are lying about their faith. So do not try to pose as someone who really is having a hard time with mormon rhetoric that you have created. You are a disgrace to what has made this country so great.
News from campaign financial reports that Sen. Hillary Clinton’s stumbling Democratic presidential effort paid many millions of donor dollars to consultants for advice that didn’t work, tens of thousands of donor dollars to hotels for uneaten vegetable trays at abandoned victory parties and 1,300 donor dollars just to Dunkin’ Donuts got us thinking.
First, that’s an awful lot of donuts. (Especially Boston creams.)
But also, maybe it’s not such a bad thing sometimes to have rich, successful businessmen and -women with enduring marriages and large families and even larger fortunes run for the White House.
Large campaigns like John McCain’s when he faltered last spring and summer, Rudy Giuliani’s later when he stopped staff pay and now Clinton’s have a way of spending other people’s money at a pretty good clip. (Yes, Hillary put $5 million of her own money into that campaign, but 1) it’s a loan and 2) she’s charging interest.)
Everyone forgets about the campaign of Rep. Ron Paul, whose followers shockingly donated the most money of any Republican campaign in the fourth quarter of 2007 (nearly $20 million), whose followers have given more than $6.1 million more since Jan. 1 and who’s carrying a debt of absolutely zero.
Rich candidates like, say, Mitt Romney can be willing to put a large chunk of their own dough into the effort — and not charge interest. As we recently reported here, the former Massachusetts governor and his wife of 38 years, Ann, decided together to pour $42.3 million of their own money into his ultimately unsuccessful $98-million effort.
Except for being shot at, nothing focuses your mind quicker than reaching for your own wallet.
Anyone who has ever given money to a political campaign (or NPR, for that matter) will recognize the pattern. First, like it or not, be warned the initial donation is just the beginning of your financial relationship with that operation. You just know you’re gonna get hit up for more money down the road once they get your address or e-mail. And some even sell those address lists to other beggars.
Second, when that campaign ends in defeat or surrender, as almost all presidential efforts do (remember, not so long ago we had 18 of these traveling circuses), you’re also likely going to be receiving additional pleas for more money to pay off the bid’s debt. Chris Dodd and Bill Richardson are doing that right now.
One option available to coveted campaigners is to peddle their endorsement to a surviving candidate, whose supporters then quietly erase the bills. Why does the name Tom Vilsack come to mind? And that of Kansas Sen. Sam Brownback?
Another option is simply to quit and close up shop yourself out of the spotlight. When Romney did disappointingly on Super Tuesday, he met with his staff the next day like a businessman. He read the delegate and expense numbers, confirmed how unlikely it was to catch McCain in delegates and, surprisingly quickly, pulled the plug during a thoughtful speech to the Conservative Political Action Committee 48 hours later that left little doubt he’d be back in GOP politics.
A week after that, again surprisingly quickly during such a healing period, Romney heartily endorsed McCain and, literally, stepped aside on that stage and off.
Now, instead of a public plea for more money to cover the massive debts of his yearlong failed effort, here’s what you get at the Romney campaign’s shuttered website.

Tex;
What American Conservative says is true. Maybe you cannot tell a post from an anti-Mormon posing as a Mormon, but any Mormon can.
Have you ever heard someone say they were from a certain city but didn’t seem to know up from down or over…? Or they didn’t pronounce things right…? I once lived in Utah during a heated election year, when busloads of “supporters” from other states were imported to cheer at a certain rally. Some of them were interviewed and put on the news and I had to just laugh out loud when they mispronounced the names of the cities where they purportedly “lived.”
It is a very similar thing with inflammatory posters claiming to be Mormons. They get the lingo all wrong. They use “the LDS” and “LDS” in the wrong places. They say “up” when they should say “over.” It’s little things that you wouldn’t notice, but they are enough for any Mormon to immediately roll their eyes.
It is also true what AC says about the websites. You won’t find anti-Huckabee websites created by Mormon clergy the way we saw anti-Romney-anti-Mormon sites.
Many Mormons are certainly unsettled by this election. They had no idea so many people hated them. But for the most part, Mormons have really been turning the other cheek on this one.
Andrew Malcolm:
Thank you for your unbiased polictical analysis. Can you explain to us all how Huckabee still trails in delegates to Romney after how many elections since he suspended his race? Don’t worry, I do not expect you to answer that. How is Huckabee stacking up to Romney in the popular vote? Oh, I don’t expect you to answer that as well. May be you could share with us how many states Huckabee has won compared to Romney? Especially the ones outside the south. I don’t think Romney did to bad in Florida. How did Huckabee do in Florida? Again, don’t worry, I don’t expect you to answer that as well. If Romney’s campaign was so “ultimately unsuccessful” as you say, how does that make you feel that Huckabee is still doing worse than Romney after how many elections since dropping out? Don’t worry I don’t expect you to anwer that as well.
Andrew, you really made yourself sound unintelligent by continuing to rip Romney and he is still doing better than your candidate after dropping out of the race. I forgot how crazy it is when someone drops out when he feels there is no possibility of winning. It is class warfare specialist like you who are part of the reason why Huckabee is going nowhere. Just because your candidate acts that way does not mean you have to adopt it. Huckabee was a media creation and now that they have stopped propping him up since Romney got out, he still has gone nowhere.
You misunderstood. I was not ripping Romney; I was congratulating him on his fine campaign. Unlike candidates who continue to linger past their viability, Romney did the math and went home. He does not ask others to pay campaign debts, if tehre were any. He simply wrote a “Thank you America” message on his website, with grace and dignity, and exited the stage.
Ron Paul was true to his message of fiscal responsibility and did not incur any debt.
A major complaint from the Huckabee camp has been that Romney had so much money — that that isn’t fair — and that Romney was somehow insincere. Yet Romney put his money where his mouth is, something that few people are wont to do. Hillary, as was pointed out, is charging interest for her campaign contributions.
I only say that Romney’s candidacy was ultimately unsuccessful because he withdrew — not that he necessarily should have withdrawn. The numbers would indicate that he was far ahead of Huckabee even at that point. Huckabee quips that he didn’t study math in college, though maybe he should have….
Andrew: Based on your last post, I apologize for misreading what you were trying to say. I completley agree with everything you said.
It’s OK. I see how you made your interpretation…. Peace!
