The Across America Tour, Day Twelve: Arizona

By Lee Ross

We had a different kind of beautiful for Arizona today. And one I didn’t expect.

Before that though we made our way west through the small towns of Holbrook and Winslow. And yes there we were standing on a corner in this old route 66 town. In fact two corners have stores dedicated to selling stuff from this famous rock and roll locale.

On another corner is a statute dedicated to Jackson Browne who penned the famous words in “take it easy” and sung by the Eagles. Also there is a brick mural showing a girl in a flatbed Ford slowing down to take a look at me. Kind of a neat stop.

The beauty that surprised us came on the road to Sedona. Here on Highway 89 we made our way down through the Coconino National Forest It looked like they had about six inches of snow and as we moved down past 6,000 and finally 5,000 feet in elevation the snow turned to rain. But what a sight it was up there.

All of that beautiful mountain snow made for a nice albeit long trip as we were stuck in a caravan of cars going down the mountain. Nonetheless, we made it safe and sound and ready for day 13 tomorrow.

Your drive through the snow was beautiful. The link kept losing the satellite, but I saw enough to enjoy the ride. I am really enjoying seeing the west with you and appreciate everyone at Fox who thought of this, produced it and did it. I think it would make a great t.v. special.

Ditto to what ANN said(2-23-08). I was looking forward to seeing my favorite place in this
country, having lived there for quite some time. Very disappointed when you didn’t show Sedona
friday night on Shep’s two shows. At least Phil got a chance to see, what I think is the most
beautiful place in the USA, but it would have been nice if all Fox viewers could have seen it.

Please make his trip available on this link, so we can each check out our favorite town.

Phil and the crew did a great job!!

The broadcast from Arizona could handily be a YouTube spot for the Republicans!

When asked who he would vote for, one gentleman replied: “Not the Woman!….I don’t think Clinton should be President…I think McCain is our best bet!”

Good job guys. I notice at 1430 hrs 2-24 you are making good time. My gosh - those truckers out west must be slow drivers…………. or …………….. you have the pedal to the metal! Watch out for “Smokey” - he/she may wish to be on worldwide TV while writing the ticket..
