Hillary, Saddened By Death, Moves Forward

The death of a police officer in her motorcade in Dallas this morning led Hillary Clinton to cancel an event in Fort Worth, TX to be with the widow and her four children — but the campaign decided to continue on to her final two stops of the day in Ohio.

There were some changes, however; Sen Clinton emerged from behind the curtain at this roundtable discussion at Columbus State Community College without her familiar campaign music, making for a sober opening to the event. And she spoke about the tragedy at the top of her remarks, saying “it was just heartbreaking.” The crowd let out a soft sigh of sympathy for the officer.

Tonight’s event in Columbus was a serious discussion of economic issues, rather than a rah-rah pep rally — which would have been monumentally uncomfortable in the wake of such a terrible accident. Yet it still begs the question: how does a candidate talk about politics and policy when such a harsh reality intrudes on the campaign trail? For Senator Clinton, the accident provided a stark reminder of the need to help children like the four left behind by their fallen father.

“I thought a lot about them as I traveled here to attend this event in Columbus,” she said. “I thought about the help that that family will need, and the hope that they will have the educational and other opportunities that we want for all of our young people. They’ll bear the extra burden of the loss of a father and a husband. But certainly we hope for every young person in America today the opportunity to live up to his or her potential.”

TEXT OF SEN CLINTON’S REMARKS

“I want to make just a personal comment, because this morning in Dallas, where I was campaigning, we had a very tragic event occur. When I, or presidential candidates, or certainly presidents, come to cities like Dallas or like Columbus, the local police provide tremendous support. They are great partners with the Secret Service in making sure that our visits go smoothly, and that, you know, all of the various problems that could arise are taken care of. And tragically this morning, one of the police officers from the Dallas Police Department who was riding one of the motorcycles in the motorcade that we had had an accident and died.

“And it just was heartbreaking. I certainly conveyed my heartfelt sympathy and concern to the police department, and visited his widow at the hospital to thank her for her husband’s service and certainly to express my deep condolences about her loss and the loss to her family

“That was a personal tragedy, but it affected obviously the police department and the city there, and it was a real reminder of the work that our law enforcement officers do every single day to keep us safe and secure.

“So I again wanted to convey my prayer and my sympathy to the family and to all those who were affected.

“You know, the police officer leaves behind four children. Two already in college, one in high school and a nine year old. And I’ve thought a lot about them as I traveled here to attend this event in Columbus. You know, I thought about the help that that family will need, and the hope that they will have the educational and other opportunities that we want for all of our young people. They’ll bear the extra burden of the loss of a father and a husband. But certainly we hope for every young person in America today the opportunity to live up to his or her potential, to have all the support from great institutions like Columbia state and others. I wanted to come here to talk about what we need to do to make sure the American dream remains alive and well for people in Ohio. “

I don’t care what people say. She really has a heart. We don’t get to see much of it but it is there.

Hillary I am glad to see you went and visited his family.

Dave,

You blame her for this accident? Pretty brutal comment.

I agee with SafeBet - Hillary does have a heart, but you do not.

With the huge number of young police, body guards and drivers as well as accociates who have come up dead in the Clinton’s path, I only hope this was in addition to all the others a “real” accident. I wouldn’t put it past the Clintons to harm yet one more human being if they knew it would get them votes. Especially if this guy knew something. The Clintons are desperate and we the people are pawns for their pleasure. Sure this is all speculation

I am deeply saden by this mans death, and at the very least Dave is correct, if Hillary was in prison where she belongs, this man would be with his family tonight. My prayers are with him and his family.

I am sadden and I am sicken.

I certainly applaud Hillery on her comments concerning the officer who lost his life in the
motorcade escort. I would also like to say that the comments made by DAVE is uncalled for.
Need we remind him that Hillery was not the only one that this officer was trying to protect. If
Im not mistaken, all three Presidential candidates use these services.

Dave should be man enough to apologize to Hillery for those comments. Comments such
as this should not be made by anyone.

May God bless the officers family and give them peace.

Bill O’Reilly rescue:

Dear Bill:
According to Merriam Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary (10th Edition) the word “lynch” means “to put to death (as by hanging) as by mob action without legal sanction.”

The word “lynch-pin” is a variation of the word “linchpin” . . . a word used in volumes of Supreme Court cases.

Conclusion: We are not crazy, they are.

I am tired of people hyjacking the English language and deciding that words mean things that they clearly do not. I was unaware that the word “lynch” means to hang someone only of dark color; a thought that would surely offend the families of the tens of thousands of people throughout history who were unlawfully hanged by an unruly mob.

Don’t worry Bill, I got your back; and apparently your front too needs watching these days. I ask for return payment in the form of either a date with any one of your HOT colleagues (female) or a first in line job offer when I return back on the U.S. radar screen. Hmmmm, Chicks? . . . or money? . . . a very old dilemma.

Safebet,

One thing that is interesting about my life - I don’t put it out in front of everyone to be played out. I don’t feel sad about Hillary. I find it strange that you defend her and admire her because this policeman dies. How is she heroic?

I challange you to take a look at the Clinton History. It’s every where on the net. I worked on Brown’s campagne in the ’90’s. The campagne found a list of deaths that surrounded the Clintons - suicides, accidents and natual causes. Before Billy became Pres. the list was hovering around 60 people. The list never made any claims about wrongful death, but the odds of that many deaths in a single families life is not good. Since the Clinton’s time in office the number grew to over 90 (not including Ron Brown and accociates on the jet.) If the odds for 60 before is impossible, 30+/- more in just 8 years is non-existing. I only speculate Safebet, but it doesn’t ring right in my mind. Now we have one more. The thing is, this could have been a real accident. But it doesn’t matter, 90+ people have died in this family’s wake. If Hillary gets this, how many more will die? If I were you, I wouldn’t be thinking of Hillary as your Safe-bet.

She has a heart and it shows. Who says she goes all way out to win the nomination. She did the right thing to stop campaigning for the day and I applaud her for that.

I am no Clinton’s fan but seeing how she is bashed by all the media who are blinded by this Pied Piper, my heart goes out to Hillary.

For Dave and Jody - you like many are so blinded by the flute that you have become heartless and I just hope you don’t live to regret saying such things at such sad moment.

For Hillary - you are the brave one, the strong one who endured all these bashing and still keeping your head up. I admire you for that.

Is this a threat. Kind-a sounds like one.

If you are not a Clinton Fan, you sure have the conviction of one. Please know, I am deeply sadden by this man’s death. I am not heartless. When working for the Brown campaign years ago, I feared the Clinton’s as I do now. If you want to say my vision is blinded, well I lost my ability to see long before Rush Limbaugh, long before Fox New, long before Clinton became Pres.

I worked for the Democratic Party in my state (County and town chair) in the 90’s and attended meetings that in so many words admitted much of what went on in the first term. (Blue Dress) Our job was to get out the right spin.

You say I am blinded. Well, I probably know more then you. I do not wish ill will on Hillary, but she ain’t no champion! If she knew she would get more votes by campaigning all day - believe me she would.

You may accuse me of being blind, but it could also be true that you are also blinded by your superhero candidate. Go vote for her, but when history is done with these Clintons, the books are written, and the truth is told, I will be vindicated.

In this, I guess you are right - what goes around . . .

- enjoy.

I would like to appologize to you - this is apparently emotional moment, and I am being heartless.

“We are NOT talking about her record. ”

You are right. I get nervous when something like this can yeild positive results when it shouldn’t. My nervousness makes me react.

“We are talking about the tragic loss of a man. ”

This is my point in a real rough way. I am concerned about all the families that have suffered from the many deaths. This guy was a great man, and he gave his life to protect a candidate.

“Your remarks are uncalled for. If you really want to be a Bit*ch go to anther blog and spread all the hate you want.”

I hope we can share all of our concerns without having to run, hide and duck. We all should be stronger than running from where things are uncomfortable. Again my comments are because of my concern for Hillary winning. I do not hate, and my words are not about hate. As I have said above, I have no ill will on Hillary. I do not like her and I am afraid of her being president. There are so many better women to have that role. I do not want her to represent women at this point in history. I want someone else. Please forgive on this.

“I have seen her record and Obama’s and McCain’s.
Get off your moral high horse. Let’s put your whole life in front of the media and see how perfect you are!!”

Believe me, I am no symbol of morality or perfection - and I never claim to be. Actually, my life is more or less a joke and would bore anyone watching it. I have fun on this planet and love my life, but there ain’t nothing to write home about.

Safebet,

I guess you and I have something in common. I am somewhat reluctantly voting for McCain as well. Obama doesn’t thrill me, and as I see it McCain is the lesser of - well whatever.

I just don’t see Hillary’s actions today in the same way you do. I guess we can’t agree on everything. Since the 90’s I have been very cautious of those two, and probably will always. Sometimes, I wonder what people would say if she were a man. Would they be as sympathetic as they are in moments like this?

Well, it has been good debating this with you - I’ve got to crash.

Signing off.

Obama strikes again! If you’ll recall during the Democratic debate, Senator Obama was stated that he had talked with a “Rifle Company” Captain who stated is was easier for them to obtain weapons from the Taliban and use their weapons than it was for them to obtain Weapons, Ammunition, and Humvees from our own Military. John Warner, former Republican majority leader and chair of the Armed Services Committee, which Senator Clinton also is amember of, wrote a letter to Senator Obama asking for the Captains Unit, the dates the infractions occurred, and the Captain’s name. Senator Obama produced the Captain and ABC news confirmed after an interview with the Captain tht he was backing up Obama’s story, but would not reveal the Captin’s name. Still not satisfied? CNN interviewed the same Captain and confirmed Obama’s statement as well. Reporters are being em-bedded wiht the Military as we speak for further investigation. He’s not even in office yet and he’s producing “Change We Can Bekieve In”. He’s twice the leader Hillary or McCain are. OBAMA ‘08!

Michelle Obama’s America — And Mine
By Michelle Malkin
February 20, 2008
Like Michelle Obama, I am a “woman of color.” Like Michelle Obama, I am a working mother of two young children. Like Michelle Obama, I am a member of the 13th generation of Americans born since the founding of our great nation.
Unlike Michelle Obama, I can’t keep track of the number of times I’ve been proud — really proud — of my country since I was born and privileged to live in it.
At a speech in Milwaukee this week on behalf of her husband’s Democratic presidential campaign, Mrs. Obama remarked, “For the first time in my adult lifetime, I am really proud of my country, and not just because Barack has done well, but because I think people are hungry for change.”
Mrs. Obama’s statement was met with warm applause from other Barack supporters who have apparently also been devoid of pride in their country for their adult lifetimes. Or maybe it was just a Pavlovian response to the word “change.” What a sad, empty, narcissistic, ungrateful, unthinking lot.
I’m just seven years younger than Mrs. Obama. We’ve grown up and lived in the same era. And yet, her self-absorbed attitude is completely foreign to me. What planet is she living on? Since when was now the only time the American people have ever been “hungry for change”? Michelle, ma belle, Barack is not the center of the universe. Newsflash: The Obamas did not invent “change” any more than Hillary invented “leadership” or John McCain invented “straight talk.”
We were both adults when the Berlin Wall fell, Michelle. That was earth-shattering change.
We’ve lived through two decades’ worth of peaceful, if contentious election cycles under the rule of law, which have brought about “change” and upheaval, both good and bad.
We were adults through several launches of the space shuttle, in case you were snoozing. And as adults, we’ve witnessed and benefited from dizzyingly rapid advances in technology, communications, science and medicine pioneered by American entrepreneurs who yearned to change the world and succeeded. You want “change”? Go ask the patients whose lives have been improved and extended by American pharmaceutical companies that have flourished under the best economic system in the world.
If American ingenuity, a robust constitutional republic and the fall of communism don’t do it for you, hon, then how about American heroism and sacrifice?
How about every Memorial Day? Every Veterans Day? Every Independence Day? Every Medal of Honor ceremony? Has she never attended a welcome home ceremony for the troops?
For me, there’s the thrill of the Blue Angels roaring over cloudless skies. And the somber awe felt amid the hallowed waters that surround the sunken U.S.S. Arizona at the Pearl Harbor memorial.
Every naturalization ceremony I’ve attended, where hundreds of new Americans raised their hands to swear an oath of allegiance to this land of liberty, has been a moment of pride for me. So have the awesome displays of American compassion at home and around the world. When millions of Americans rallied to help victims of the 2004 tsunami in Southeast Asia — including members of the U.S.S. Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group that sped from Hong Kong to assist survivors — my heart filled with pride. It did again when the citizens of Houston opened their arms to Hurricane Katrina victims and folks across the country rushed to their churches, and Salvation Army and Red Cross offices to volunteer.

I am not a Hilary supporter, I like Huckabee… BUT this was an extremely tramatic and horrible thing that happened to this family and I think she handled it appropriately. I just hope we all can come together; pray for this Dallas family ~ these 4 children that lost their father today… A woman lost her soulmate… Today, was their worst day… Politics is secondary.

I’m happy she handled it the way she did. For her as a woman is hard to show emotions as a presidential candidate.
She has to show who she is in reality and stop listening to her campaign.

Hillary did the right thing today. She put the officer’s family first than her campaigning. I am a big supporter of Hillary and waiting for that one moment when people wake up after this long hypnotizing session. I thought i was the only one who thought of barack as the Pied Piper; but i read on this blog that a couple of people share my sentiments. He is a nice guy, also inspiring but not fit to be a president yet. Hillary is the right choice!! Texas, please vote for Hillary and make her win. She will make a great president which will be a fresh change for America to see a Woman President for the first time. That’s real change. She is smart, intellectual, poised, graceful, presidential, has the command, is respected throughout the world and will not abandon our country when the going gets tough. Look at her history, she always stays put and deals with difficult situations and brings solutions, no matter how tough they are. She is a loyal person. She is proud to be an American and really really cares about her country and the people and doesn’t want to see it fall backwards.

That was a great moment how she connected with everybody at the debate. Sad, that the media tried to take the credit away from her and crown Barack instead. But, the fact is she did get a standing ovation and Obama couldn’t handle that and wanted to get out asap! Media says she should show more of her emotional side, but when she does they call her a cry baby. I thought journalism is more than getting involved in petty stuff.

P.S. Chris Matthews seriously has a man crush on Obama; with his chills and all!!! …gross!!!

TEXAS, OHIO, ALL OF THE USA, PLEASE WAKE UP AND VOTE FOR SUBSTANCE AND SOLUTIONS AND NOT FOR SHOW AND HYPE!!!

VOTE HILLARY FOR PRESIDENT ‘08!!!

Comment by Jake from Ohio

How the hell is this ANY of Hillary’s fault. Those blaming her: your logic is flawed and shows just how stupid you truly are.

Hillary will receive my vote. She will win Ohio and Texas and the other two states.

People that support Barack Obama can’t even name a single accomplishment of his. And being a community organizer is not an accomplishment- it’s your civic duty to help your community. Duh.

Republicans love Barack Obama because he is EASILY DEFEATABLE against John McCain. That’s why the media drums up so much support for Obama. So that YOU will turn against Hillary.

Why are Americans so stupid???

Comment by Linda Fiddle

The compassionate Hillary Clinton whose actions, not words, reveal her character has been muted by the media. It is quite apparent that the media and its leaders have determined that the Obama “story” will sell better and thus have presented the most slanted reporting I have ever witness. We all know that for the first time in her adult life, Michelle Obama is proud to be an American and I wonder if that also means that she is proud of our current sound-bite culture that puts words before deeds and has turned this election into a popularity rather than a Presidential contest. Has any one else noticed that Senator Obama first started out this campaign with speeches that culled words from other great orators and has now taken the policies and proposals of Senator Clinton and inserted them into his rhetoric? And yet, there has been no media scrutiny of this at all. Instead, we get the jaded media serving up a bare bones diet of information that many in our current culture are satisfied to digest. For me, and I know many others too, we require a well balanced diet of substantive discourse that fairly looks at each candidate and their actual achievements, how they handle crisis and challenges and their knowledge and experience in affecting the changes they espouse. Unlike Mrs. Obama, this is not the first time in my adult life that I am proud to be an American, I have always been proud to live in a country where freedom off speech is accepted as the mode of expressing all kinds of viewpoints—our media would do well to honor this precept.

Sickening and sad.

This is not a political story/incident. It’s a tragedy. Shame on any Democrat or Republican who tries to take advantage of this tradegy. That’s sickening. For those that defile the memory of the police officer and hero who died today….those that would even dare to intrude politics on this family and community tragedy for their own political purpose (hiding behind superficial blog names), you amaze me for being so shallow, egotistical and pathetic . You are worthless.

His name was Victor Lozada. We should not be mentioning the names Clinton, Obama or McCain. We should be using this blog to remember Victor Lozada, his courage, and his ultimate sacrifice.

Along with every other person who wears a uniform to protect our community, we owe our heartfelt and infinite gratitude.

To the memory Victor Lozada and his surviving family, my deepest sympathy and gratitude for his service.

Leigh,

The funny thing is, the very first comment was about her and her “compassion”. One comment has yet to come up chronicalizing Victor’s Life other than saying it was a tragity - I’m guilty of this as well. This whole dialog has been about justifying Hillary as a compassionate person - which is right in the playbook the Clintons have followed since day one. If this was a tragic accident, then she is taking advatage of it. She went in front of 2000 supporters and grandstanded. She made her the story, not this police officer protecting her. If she was really great - she would have just sent out a short message giving honor to this man. No she made herself the story - by telling us that she is compassionate. This is not greatness. She did more ifor her campagn n her two appearances (the grandstand and the one at the hosptial) then she could have all day. It is what won her New Hampshire when she was far behind in the polls - and this will likely tip the scales in her favor in Texas.

Let me ask, do we really want Clinton to represent women as the first female president? Someone who will be having to defend herself in yet one more upcoming court case? I fear this will be an embaraasement. There are so many other women that would bring so much more to that post.

Seems kind of lopsided that people are on Hillary’s case for the death of one officer who was doing his duty, while at the same time they excuse Geroge Bush for the thousands of American troops who have died in Iraq. White House spokesman Scott Stonzel said Senator Barack Obama, D-Ill and the pope would continue discussions they began during Obama’s trip to the Vatican in June 2006 on the importance of faith and reason in reaching shared goals.
Stonzel said the goals include advancing peace throughout the Middle East and other troubled regions, promoting interfaith understanding and strengthening human rights and freedom. The pope was also expected to address the United Nations, visit Victory Monument one of 9 Chicago Landmarks and celebrate Mass in Chicago Ill. and Washington during his April 21-25 trip.

Phil,

I first got wind or “the list” from my volunteer work with the Brown Campaign back in ‘91. If you think Jerry is a right winger, then you are showing your ignorance. “The list” is mearly a collection of incidents throughout the Clinton’s political carreer that ended in similar tragic way. I have been on this earth for 40 years. I have only had one uncle murdered by his wife, and two accidental deaths - a cousin who fell off a truck and an uncle who had a moter cycle crash. Other than that, I have lived to see the deaths of a great grand parent, all my grandparents and an aunt - all by natural causes. In total - 9 deaths eatch with nothing questionable about them. To say a class of over 500 people who have experienced 90 some odd deaths makes the 90+ deaths surrounding the Clintons believable is weak. These were 90 some odd deaths that impacted 90 some odd separate families - not in any way related for the most part - other than being in a particular class. The 90+ deaths surrounding the Clintons are just that - aqll related in one way or another to two individuals. “The List” never actually makes any connection to the Clintons - but it certainly makes the mind of a suspicious thinking sort go wild. At the very least this couple causes a significant amount of bad luck in other people’s lives. Phill, “the list” is factual - not some right wing smear. About.com I believe has “the list” under their folk lore section - under urban myths - I think. It has been a while - so I appologize. This list was widely distributed by us in the -ahem- left wing Brown supporters at the time - not the right wing.

The Clintons definitely have horrible things happen when they are around. I’m so sorry for the policeman who died, but it makes me wonder about why so many deaths center around them.
