Hillary Goes on Offense to Counter Obama Victories
Sen Clinton congratulated Sen Obama for big wins in Wisconsin and Hawaii yesterday, states he won by large enough margins to increase his lead among pledged delegates to nearly 160. But she made it clear that she has a strategy to knock him down a peg before March 4th — launching a new set of attacks at a fundraiser at Hunter College in New York, while assuring supporters that she’s in this thing for the long haul.
“I want to congratulate Senator Obama on his victories yesterday,” she told the cheering crowd of about 1,500, most of whom paid $50 or more for a ticket. “He’s had a good couple of weeks, and he’s run a good race. And we will be squaring off in primaries in two weeks. And we’re going to draw the contrasts and make the comparisons and give people of Ohio and Texas and other states a real choice.”
She then proceeded to make those contrasts in a series of attacks on Obama’s style and record. Video is forthcoming, but you can read them below:
1) “it’s time we moved from good words to good works. From sound bites to sound solutions. Americans have a choice to make in this election, and that choice matters. It’s about picking a president who relies not just on words, but on work. Hard work. To get American back to work. To get america working again for all of our people. We need to make a choice between speeches and solutions. Because while words matter greatly, the best words in the world aren’t enough unless you match them with action
2) “This is the choice we face. One of us is ready to be commander in chief in a dangerous world …one of us has a plan to provide healthcare for every single American with no one left out, no excuses, no exceptions.”
3) “On issue after issue there are real differences. One of us has a plan to address the growing foreclsoure crisis, one doesn’t. One of us has a plan to revive our economy right now… and one of us has actually taken on the special interest for years, standing against them, fighting against them, making progress against them. And finally one of us has faced serious Republican opposition in the past, and one of us is ready to do it again.”
4) “Some may be joining a movement. Well I’m joining you on the night shift and on the day shift”
5) “There are big differences in this election, between me and Senator Obama and between me and Senator McCain. Whether we favor speeches to move this country forward, or more of the same, this is a debate voters deserve to have. We cannot achieve unity that is real until we accept sometimes people disagree… People are entitled to have those opinions. But then we’ve got to come together to achieve consensus. We won’t achieve unity or fulfill our dreams by running away form honest discussion or debate. You cannot achieve the kind of changes we want by voting present on controversial issues. By meeting behind closed doors with corporate interests to water down legislation, or by caving in when the pressure mounts. The American people deserve better than that.”
There were a lot of cheers and standing ovations, but supporter and senior NY Senator Chuck Schumer may have summed up the campaign’s attitude in his introduction. “The past few weeks haven’t been easy, but I’ve been there with Hillary before,” he said. “I saw what happened in 2000 when they said she can’t win. They threw everything at her. Let me tell you, I saw her come roaring back. I have seen Hillary Rodham Clinton take a punch, but every time she gets right back up stronger than before.”
Hillary herself told the crowd that “campaigns are not supposed to be easy. Supposed to be hard. Supposded to be challenging. And there isn’t any campaign tougher than running for President.”
“I do believe we’re all in this together and we’re going to demonstrate loudly and clearly that our country is worth fighting for, is worth standing for,” she said. “And this campaign goes on. And this campaign moves forward. And this campaign will take our country back. “

And well, as for being able to whip up a crowd with his oratory style. it is obvious that if Obama was truly speaking from the heart during his support rallies he would not need to lift other people’s speeches in their entirety. During a rally speech regarding homeland security, Obama advocated that America should “send surgical missile strikes into Iran”.
In an interview with the Chicago Tribune newspaper, Obama let slip that he believes America should send troops to Pakistan to search for the Taliban without seeking permission from the Pakistani government first.
Remember, both of these comments regarding foreign policy came from Obama himself!!!
Not only does his view of bombing Iran contradict his purported stance against the Iraq war, but his views on invading Pakistan with troops to look for the Taliban without the permission of the Pakistani Government first breaches all levels of international law and would further destabalise the middle east.
People ask yourself this question before voting: Is this the kind of “change” America needs right now?
