If people are going to criticize the lady at least get the quote right: “For the first time in my adult lifetime, I am really proud of my country.”
Focus on the words: adult lifetime, really, my country. Really! Did the lady say she has never been proud of her country in the last 25 years? NO, she said she was now she was REALLY proud of her country. She was proud before but now she was really proud to see the positive response to a call for a better America.
I was in the service of my country 40 years ago in Louisiana. I saw the white only drinking fountains. I saw white servicemen arrested for disturbing the peace because they entered black bars. I saw Jim Crow in all his ugliness. Ten days ago a Michelle’s husband got nearly as many white votes in that state as McCain and Huckabee did. That made me REALLY proud of my country. I was in the audience yesterday when Michelle spoke. This 60 yr white male veteran cried tears of joy as I realized America could reach its full potential.

Some people who didn’t hear the whole statement would think she is stupid. But she is glad to see some many people are in agreement about standing together for this country. I can certainly understand many Americans not being proud of our country. I am not either.

We have a prison in Cuba where people are held without charge and are denied access to a lawyer, while we claim American law does not apply there. We started a preemptive war on false pretexts. We are the largest supplier of weapons in the world. Our economy is in a terrible state. We refuse to talk to our enemies. We have changed from a beacon of democracy to an international bully. We have given up may of the rights which our forefathers died for.

There is much to be ashamed of. I believe we need a President who can repair the tarnish on our nation… I believe we need Barack Obama.

She says, “For the first time in my adult lifetime, I am really proud of my country.” In her entire adult life, the country has done nothing to make her really proud. That is exactly what she says. If you listen to the entire speech, Michelle gives a very compassionate talk on her life, her husband, their children, the problems they’ve faced which are not unlike those of millions of others throughout our great country. Finally we have begun to unite as one people, and that in itself is fantastic, no matter what happens. If parsing each word is the only thing the Clinton Machine can do against Barack and Michelle Obama, they have a real problem.

Michele Obama is obviously not the speech maker her husband is. She needs to be clear when she speaks. I understand what she is saying. History is about to be made. Either a woman or a non-caucasion male is likely to be our next president, for the FIRST TIME. The problem is, I have known too many people like Michelle Obama. Its not about skin color, its more about wanting the US to be liked by Europe’s elite, and wanting to see the US became another western socialistic county. Michelle’s proud that we seem to be moving in that direction.

She is part of the ‘Blame America first’ crowd. She likes America, but not the America we are, the America we can become if we just consent to large government socialism.

Also, although I am a white woman, Michelle Obama appears to have had more opportunites than I have had. I come from a very simple background. We did not have money, or position. This country gives us all an opportunity. What we make of it is up to us. And I have faced discrimiation in the workplace as a woman in the south (I am supposed to say at home with the kids, don’t you know). I have risen above the discrimination and still made opportunities for myself. I choose to work for people who appreciate my contribution.

American is not perfect, but she is great. It would be a shame if we changed American to please the Elites of Eurpoe. Why are they so worth pleasing anyway?

Yes, I think I know what she meant too. She’s ‘really proud’ because her husband, a black man, has the possibility of winning the Presidency of the US. That’s it. It’s race in their minds; and Obama, himself, has done a fairly good job of keeping in quiet and low.

However, it’s because of the greatness of the United States and it’s people that she is in the position she is today. It is pretty revealing that all the other arenas of greatness pale in comparison to this political moment.

I felt there was a certain arrogance in these states by Michelle. I saw the full context on one of the news shows. I was actually taken back a bit by them. I will stick with tried and true of Hillary Clinton. A Clinton - McCain showdown wil be civilized and based on policies and facts. I am so tired of the hatred spewed by the Obamicans on these blogs.

The real Obama spirit begin to bleed through. Thanks Michelle for putting into words the fears that many of us have about your husbands campaign. I personally am going to vote for someone that accepts both the good and bad that make up America. Change for the sake of change is just deflection from lack of having any real plans.
