The Across America Tour, Day Seven: St. Louis, MO
By Lee Ross
We woke up Sunday morning in downtown St. Louis and returned to the old courthouse steps for the “Courthouse Steps.”
These singing lawyers — five Democrats and five Republicans — take popular tunes and spin them into yarns about the current political drama. They were all quite nice and good singers too. We made our way to the first watch for breakfast.
Then it was time for church at the Life Center Church of God in Christ — Reverend Elijah Hankerson welcomed us with open arms. The service was so electric inside we could hear the Reverend from outside.
Our final stop in St. Louis brought with it a small band of cold rain and a man who’s truck included a LED panel on the back gate. On it he asked folks who see it to “Vote Democratic in ‘08.” We hadn’t seen something like this before on a regular car or truck.
