The Debate on Debates

Hillary Clinton reiterated her call for a head-to-head debate in advance of Tuesday’s Wisconsin primary, telling reporters “I will meet Senator Obama any place in the state.”

“There’s only been one debate between the two of us,” she said. “This has only been a two person race for a little over two weeks. And I think it’s a real disservice to the people of Wisconsin that you haven’t had a chance to see the tough questions asked and answered.”

“I’m hoping since there’s a lot of talk about hope on the other side, maybe we can get it fulfilled and have this debate.”

Clinton’s campaign has run two ads in the state attacking Obama for ducking her — while the Obama campaign has responded with two ads of its own, saying there have been enough debates and accusing Clinton of distorting his record.

Clinton said she’s been surprised at Obama’s reluctance to go one-on-one. “I thought that was going to happen, and we accepted early and we’re very committed to it,” she said. “The fact that he won’t debate me says a lot about his campaign, frankly.”

A bigger issue for Wisconsin voters, however, may be her reluctance to spend time in the state. After telling reporters last week that she’d spend four days in the state, she’s decided to cut out on Monday to cover more ground in the all-important state of Texas. While Obama has accused her of not taking the state seriously, Clinton denied that that’s the case. “We’re going to be here through Monday,” she said. “Chelsea will be back in teh state, Bill obviously was here, we have great surrogates like General Wesley Clark.”

But though one recent poll showed her just four points back here, Clinton’s campaign feels they’re at a distinct disadvantage; Obama has the Governor on his side, and he’s popular among Independents, who can vote in the Democratic primary. A win here would be a big upset and possibly reverse momentum, but the Clinton camp is merely hoping to hold the line and earn some delegates — focusing on the big March 4th prizes of Ohio and Texas.

This argument is a total joke. She’s criticizing Obama for not dropping what he’s doing and debating her sometime over the next three days? The real story is she doesn’t have much to criticize Obama on so she’s manufacturing an issue…..They’ve debated 18 times and plan on debating twice more. This is just a ploy for her to get free air time because she’s mismanaged the millions her campaign has raised.

Comment by katy WI

These so called debates aren’t debates any way. She uses them as bashing sessions. She can just run off to her latinos in Tx and take Chelsea and Bill with her.
I’ve heard enough from both those Socialists and wouldn’t vote for either of them.
Hang on to your wallet if either of them get in. They’ll steal it one way or the other to give to some one else.

These are such ignorant statements. Of course one on one debates are different than group debates. She has a valid point and with all the time Obama has spent there he could have taken 90 minutes out to debate. I personally do think he is a coward and not only because of that reason but because he hides behind written speeches and the ‘old guard’ for protection of his being, rather than confrontation with an adversary. How the heck is this man going to govern with foreign leaders that oppose his view, when he cannot even go toe-to-toe with a domestic adversary while dummying (a person taking no real part or present only for appearances) up to America. People please wake up–this guy has not been vetted and if you keep defending this get used to the term “President McCain.”

Comment by Ed

Do you really think preparing for nationally televised debate takes 90 minutes? It pretty much kills an entire day which Obama would rather spend with the voters.
And let’s not be naive about the politics being played here. HRC denied Rick Lazio’s requests for extra debates during the New York senate race…..the person behind always wants more debates. The absurd thing is that HRC is trying to turn it into an issue.

I forgot to add….With all the hype she’s made over debates she better perform well next Thursday.

I seen the same speech by Obama over 10 times now, I can almost give it. All about what our problems are and they need changing, but never how he plans to change them. Raised by a single mom outside the country. At least give us something realistic, unrealistic things can happen but not in any short term. SAD Reality.
Sorry increase taxes over $75,000. is middle class salary. Hillary Clinton at least sets them at $250,000 which makes more sence.
Every time I hear more facts from him the more I am concern as a middle class Dem.
Hillary would get my vote on this alone. Too many unknowns with this guy.

By the way 50 state vote or nothing for me. 2nd votes by superdelegates should not occur until Fl and MI get their first vote to count.

Know your canidate,,,,here’s to expierence,,,,,,,,JUST SOME FACTS,,,,now i know you hillary supporters want to say well,,,,”nothing was ever proved or this is the past”,,,point being know what you are supporting,,,2 of the cases were put in front of judges, that william clinton appointed,,,so how do you think, those verdicts went?,,,,and the other indictments, the clintons let someone else take the fall,,so come on quit trying to defend her and get ohnest,,,,don’t you wanna see a woman pres. in our time?,,well i do and if this one is elected,,,no woman will be able to run for a long time.

Agree Hilary Clinton is very expierenced. Lets revisit some of her experience. Hillary’s experience is:
1) turning $1000 into $100000 in cattle futures while working for the Rose law firm. She received tips from James B. Blair who was outside counsel for Tyson Foods in Arkansas. In one day she made over $10,000 on day trading which would point to insider knowledge from within Tyson Foods.
Washington Post
(Please check my references if you like.)

2) to Whitewater, a 1980s land deal that went bad and revealed that 1) Bill Clinton exerted pressure on an Arkansas businessman, David Hale, to make an illegal loan that would benefit him and the owners of Madison Guaranty; and 2) that an Arkansas bank had concealed transactions involving Clinton’s gubernatorial campaign in 1990.
3) to Travelgate, the 1993 firing of seven longtime employees of the travel office, which handles travel arrangements for reporters and television crews covering the president. Hillary Rodham Clinton, who is alleged to have pressured White House lawyers into dismissing the travel office staff and bringing in the FBI to investigate them, so that friends of the First Family could enjoy the office’s patronage spoils.
Columbia Journalism Review/New York Observer
4) In the aftermath of the apparent suicide (yes, it gets ugly!) of her former partner and closest confidant, White House Deputy Counsel Vincent Foster, Hillary Clinton ordered the overturn of an agreement to allow the Justice Department to examine the files in the dead man’s office. Her closest friends and aides, under oath, have been blatantly disremembering this likely obstruction of justice, and may have to pay for supporting Hillary’s lie with jail terms.
New York Times
5) In August 2000, during her first Senate run, Clinton met with the Hasidic community in New Square, where many members were working to obtain clemency for four members of their community who had been convicted of stealing tens of millions of dollars from the state and federal government.
She refused to talk about the controversial pardons of the four New York Hasidic Jews by her husband. New Square voted 1359-10 for the first lady – although other nearby Hasidic enclaves voted 3480-152 for Clinton’s GOP opponent, former Rep. Rick Lazio.
New York Times
6) Hillary Clinton’s brother Hugh Rodham , was paid approximately $200,000 from Almon Glenn Braswell, whom President Clinton pardoned for mail fraud and perjury, as was Carlos Vignali, whose sentence for cocaine trafficking was commuted. News of his involvement in the pardon controversy prompted an outrage in Washington, D.C.
“I knew nothing about my brother’s involvement in these pardons,” Sen. Clinton said at the time. “I knew nothing about his taking money for his involvement.”
The Clintons asked Hugh Rodham to return the cash, which he did.
Time Magazine
7) Hillary Clinton’s brother Tony Rodham was paid $244,769 over 2½ years by a carnival company, United Shows of America, owned by Edgar and Vonna Jo Gregory. The Gregorys had been convicted of bank fraud and were seeking pardons. Tony Rodham has said he mentioned their pardon application to his brother-in-law, who ultimately granted the Gregorys a pardon. But Rodham said he was not paid for anything having to do with the pardon.
Boston Globe
Peter Paul has business relationship with Clintons that goes bad. Clintons steal one of his clients and he retaliates turning Clinton in for violating campaign regulations during a fundraiser he held for her to the tune of $1 million. The FEC formally determined that Hillary Clinton’s Senate campaign treasurer, Andrew Grossman is legally responsible for the three false FEC reports that Hillary’s finance director, David Rosen, was criminally charged and tried for in mid-2005. Mr. Grossman signed a “Conciliation Agreement” with the FEC on December 13, 2005, admitting his culpability, and agreeing to pay a civil fine and amend his false reports to reflect the $721,000 that he failed to report since October, 2000.
Wall Street Journal
9) Pastor Got $1.5 Million in Clinton Earmarks Before Endorsement
Widely reported
10) Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton gives large earmarks of $1 billion in government-backed financing for a development project called Destiny. Robert Congel, the owner of Destiny, then turned around and financed and campaigned for her.
Robert J. Congel Congel, his family and associates affiliated with his development have donated $40,000 to Clinton’s state and national campaigns since she first ran for office in 1999.
Congel co-hosted a Syracuse fundraiser for her, an event said to have raised an additional $50,000. Lobbying firms hired by Congel in connection with Destiny and other ventures also donated more than $200,000 to various Clinton campaign funds, records show.
LA Times
11) New School, which received $1.6 million in earmarks in this year’s defense budget and $6 million previously, is particularly well-connected. Its president, former Sen. Bob Kerrey (D-Neb.), campaigned for Clinton in Iowa. Three school trustees are among Clinton’s most prominent backers, having each raised at least $100,000 for her campaign. A former trustee is Norman Hsu, who was indicted on fraud charges. After Hsu’s criminal past was revealed last summer, Clinton returned $850,000 he raised for her.
LA Times
12) to falsely attacking Obama as a pro-life candidate for voting “present” in New Hampshire.
13) Her husband Bill Clinton says he consulted her on every major decision. Does that include Rwanda, and his decision to stand by and watch genocide kill hundreds of thousands of people? She is firmly entrenched with Bill and the establishment, at best a dirty politician who knows everything there is to know about our political system. A vote for her is a vote for the status quo. The Republicans are so sure she is the next Democratic nominee that there’s even a movie set to release.

I know that this is going to be hard for you “obama bashers”,,but the following can be found at the Library of Congress web site (www.thomas.loc.gov), and i know it doesn’t fit your arguement for no substance. but these are just some of the FACTS that exsist. and i for one am tired of the polls saying the the “Clinton supporters are less educated”, so i have taken the time to condense the info. so that you can get a quick education on the facts.

Clinton v. Obama on Legislative Experience: Senator Clinton, who has served only one full term (6yrs.), and another year campaigning, has managed to author and pass into law, (20) twenty pieces of legislation in her first six years. These bills can be found on the website of the Library of Congress (www.thomas.loc.gov), During the first ( 8) eight months of his elected service he sponsored over 820 bills. He introduced 233 regarding healthcare reform, 125 on poverty and public assistance, 112 crime fighting bills, 97 economic bills, 60 human rights and anti-discrimination bills, 21 ethics reform bills, 15 gun control, 6 veterans affairs and many others. His first year in the U.S. Senate, he authored 152 bills and co-sponsored another 427. These inculded **the Coburn-Obama Government Transparency Act of 2006 (became law), **The Lugar-Obama Nuclear Non-proliferation and Conventional Weapons Threat Reduction Act, (became law), **The Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act, passed the Senate, **The 2007 Government Ethics Bill, (became law), **The Protection Against Excessive Executive Compensation Bill, (In committee), and many more.

In all since he entered the U.S. Senate, Senator Obama has written 890 bills and co-sponsored another 1096. An impressive record, for someone who supposedly has no legislative record.

I have watched all of these debates, and the debate Hillary had against Obama on CNN seemed fixed to me. Hillary appeared to have a planned answer for email questions, but then slightly stumbled on the questions asked by the commentator. She has already been busted for planting questions, and I believe she did that the night of the CNN debate. Just my observations.

Talk is definitely cheap. Of course Obama is willing and more competent than Hillary in a debate. He has beaten her ,he beats her, and will continue to beat her hands down. Ask the twenty or so state that have selected Obama after seeing them debate. Please let’s not underestimate the intelligence of the people. Her talk is cheap, because instead of meeting the voters , she keeps running away in denial whenever there’s indication of losing. We cannot have a President like that. we need someone who is going to stay and deal with the issue on hand; not run away in denial.
Talking about running away, Hillary ran away from the media for a long time, while Obama had no problem answering the tough questions. It wasn’t until intense criticism that she met with them and still anwered the questions vaguely and evasively.”well, I’m still thinking…
So coming back to the debates, Obama is meeting the people, while she talks, talks, talks “debate, debate , debate”

I’m a registered republican from Ohio, and many of us will be voting for Obama in the primaries because the thought of having a president who whines constantly, and continues to “be the victim” of the slightest criticism would make a mockery of our country!

Comment by Scared - Worried

It has been stated that the candidate that the Republican party wants to run against is Obama!! The Republican Party has even contributed to the Obama campaign. They feel it would be a hard fight if Hillary Clinton is the candidate.

The Democrate Party needs to stop and think which candidate has the chance to win. WE do not need the same of the same goverment. Can we afford more of Republican ways - more lost lives in the war?

Pray Pray - God, please be with the country.

Obama is an empty suit. With socialist lapels.

How unsurprised I was that Senor Chavez is rooting for him. Take a look at America’s enemies, and who they are cheering on. At the very least, come down from your pink clouds for just a moment and pause.

Please God, McCain 08.

Obama has obviously listened quite intently to the recordings of MLK…for years. He’s got the cadence and rhythm down perfectly.

How creepy.

Obama’s message of hope and change, is BS. It is going to raise my taxes. I won’t be covered under his heathcare plan. But hey let’s all vote him becuase he is cool and can inspire people.
Yep, that is a reason to put this guy in office.
Vote him all you want and when his plan of change fails (and it will) I hope none of the Obama fans turn their backs on him. That would be a shame.

WHY??? On earth would Obama want to debate her. She has lost her position with the American public and has nothing to gain.{Except FEWER Delegates}

My advise to Obama is to let her come begging. You are better off to stay away from a person with such a nasty character as Hillary.
Let her drown in her own crap.

Comment by Rebecka

offer an excuse, you left some out.

1.Hillary’s first attempt at “Healthcare reform” fiasco which ended up costing the Taxpayers $Millions$ and was scrapped.

2.The deposed Clintons’ outright THEFT from the White House of $140,000 worth of furnishings, etc. Property that had to be replaced by the Taxpayers.

3.The Clintons’ Theft of ‘momentos’ from Air Force 1.

4.The Clintons’ juvenile use of graffitti on the inside walls of the White House, aimed at the next President and his family. WHAT A TOTAL LACK OF CLASS!

Scared - Worried, I can see why you would be. The polls actually show that Obama would beat McCain handily, while Clinton would be beaten by McCain.

Incidentally, the reason Clinton wants a debate is because Obama’s contibutions from “INDIVIDUAL VOTERS” is eclipsing her contributions from “SPECIAL INTERESTS” by at least 2 to 1. Of course she would rather debate. (Doesn’t cost her anything for airtime.) You do realize she had to loan her campaign money, right?

I’m 73 and have voted Republican all my life. NOT THIS TIME!
Search, ‘John McCain, Aid and Comfort to the enemy’. ‘Keating 5′. ‘John and Carol McCain’. (He divorced a permanently disabled Carol to marry a woman 18 years his junior, while committing many sex scandals along the way.)

Hard to decide who is worse, McCain or the Clintons.

What would be really neat for the time being, is if someone would construct a Web Page COMPARING Obama and Clinton’s Senate Record.

BTW, she is VETTED??????????

From Wikipedia:Broadly, vetting is a process of examination and evaluation. Specifically, vetting often refers to performing a background check on someone before offering them employment. In addition, in intelligence gathering, assets are vetted to determine their usefulness.

Neat that she uses a word few understand, (Referred traditionally to:To vet was originally a horse-racing term, referring to the requirement that a horse be checked for health and soundness by a veterinarian before being allowed to race. Thus, it has taken the general meaning “to check”.) But also says nothing about how she ranks among her peers, or how she rated in her ‘background check’.

She just assumes most of the people voting for her won’t understand the meaning of the word, or that Barack Obama has also been Vetted and comes out way ahead of her in the process. Keep talking Hellery. You look neat with your foot in your mouth.

Obama - 2008

Har to decide who is worse, the Clintons or McCain. Thank goodness for Barack Obama.

When it comes to debates, I thought Mike Huckabee was by far the Best of All Candidates running.
I cut and pasted a article from JS Online in Milwalkee, I enjoyed the Article an thought it was a choice, Grade A cut, so I wanted to share it with you folks.

Mike Huckabee
By Tim Dotson

On fiscal conservatism, he believes wholeheartedly in the reduction of cost to the taxpayer, especially entitlements. In Arkansas as governor, he was able to reduce welfare rolls by 50% and he held the line on taxes, leaving them the same as when he took office. He successfully fought to increase deductions and lower taxes such as capital gains. He also signed the Americans for Tax Reform’s pledge to not raise taxes.

Huckabee understands that money spent on entitlements is almost three times the amount of spending on the military. Thomas Jefferson said, “The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not.” By working to reduce those who are dependent on entitlements, we strengthen our economy and our nation.

On conservative foreign policy, Huckabee vows to finish the war in Iraq, leaving when democracy has been established. He is fervent about removing our dependency on foreign oil by increasing our production at home for the short term and investing in renewable energy for the long term. He also is committed to securing the borders and ending the cycle of illegal immigration, which has become such a huge problem for the United States today.

Huckabee is the only candidate I completely trust to support our Second Amendment rights, as he has a longstanding track record as a sportsman and conservationist. For hunters and shooters of all sports, and those who believe they have the right to own a firearm, Huckabee is the only choice.

On moral conservatism, he is the only candidate who is firmly and unequivocally pro-life. He also wants marriage defined as a union between a man and a woman, and he successfully implemented a law stating that in Arkansas.

For members of the working class who are tired of having a large portion of their paycheck go to support those who will not work or are here illegally, to sportsmen who are tired of losing their rights, to Christians who are tired of seeing their values and beliefs represented as something to be shunned and to those who truly believe in democracy, there is an action you can take.

You can vote for Mike Huckabee.

Everyone should demand that the truth come out about Obama and Larry Sinclaire, Rezko, Pastor Wright, Obamas Muslim background and Obamas private campaign donors!! Stop falling for his preacher speeches and knock him off that pony he keeps riding on. If these were Hillary’s secrets they would of been smeared all over the media weeks ago. This is such B.S. and it’s very embarrassing that parents would encourage their children to be sucked into Obama’s web of false promises and secret liasons.

Our enemies are rooting for Obama to win — does that not say it all?

WAKE UP!!
