Obama’s “Desperate” Ad Airs in Wisconsin

Barack Obama released a new ad called “Desperate” today to dispel Hillary Clinton’s latest effort to show Wisconsin voters that Barack Obama has something to hide by refusing to debate her before Tuesday’s primary.

Something Wisconsin Governor (and Obama backer) Jim Doyle described as dirty politics. “For her to do this - claiming that Senator Obama somehow isn’t making himself available when he has been all over the state, and as we speak today, she has yet to even be in the state during the week leading up to this primary,” he said on a conference call yesterday**. “Fact is, he’s out here in the state having a one-sided debate right now and the only campaign she has going on in Wisconsin is negative TV ads,” he added later.

Desperate” is Obama’s second ad set to air in the Badger State to respond to Clinton’s own second ad questioning Obama’s reasons for refusing a debate. The announcer starts by saying there have already been 18 debates with two more scheduled next week.

“Here’s the truth. Obama has a plan to protect Social Security benefits and the current retirement age. Hillary doesn’t. On health care, even Bill Clinton’s Labor Secretary says Obama covers more people than Hillary. And Obama sponsored a bill to end tax breaks for oil companies,” the announcer reads, responding to claims from the previous Clinton ad. “Tired of the same old politics? Vote for change we can believe in,” the ad ends.

In a media availability yesterday, Obama called debates an “exercise” that has become “predicatable.” He explained, “I could make the arguments on behalf of senator Clinton that she would make against me in a debate. We all know them. You guys could too. And I’m sure the same applies to the other side, on the other hand, when we have a chance to talk to voters directly, when we have a chance to give them a sense of where we want to take the country and that’s my priority in these closing weeks.”

**Senator Clinton will make her first trip to Wisconsin this week when she arrives later today to speak at the state Democratic Party’s Founders Day Dinner in Milwaukee, where Senator Obama will also be speaking.

… and partly because he had the insight and intelligence to deny Faux News any debates, any interviews, anything this fraudulent imposter network from smearing him with. He called it out and we love him for it.

Fox news = misinformation brought to you by war monger traitors of democracy.

More people need to stand up and call out the twisted poison that is passed off on the american public as actual information.

when will hillary clinton’s real “record” be discussed? i mean investment scandal, documents “appearing” the day after the statute of limitations, travelgate, and the person who coauthored her grab at a large percentage of the taxpayers’ money with her national health care bill as a non elected official to name a few. when will barack obama, whom i support, speak up?

What are you afraid of obama, your already a loser!

I applaud Barak Obama for trying to keep things positive, Hillary on the other hand does not know how to be fair and HONEST. I am looking forward to seeing Obama lead this country!

Comment by Sarah

What an excuse! He doesn’t want to debate because she beats him hands down every time because when you put them next to each other, it’s obvious who has more experience and more intelligence. It’s a lot easier to just go out and give eloquent speeches and not have to defend what you’re talking about.

Btw, I’m a public speaker AND debater…

OBAMA AFRAID OF CLINTON FOR A DEBATE IN WISCONSIN.

SENATOR OBAMA THIS IS YOUR OPPORTUNITY TO SHOW YOUR STRENGTH AND ABILITY. YOU HAVE NOTHING TO LOSE YOU ARE AHEAD ON DELEGATES AND BACK UP BY THE MEDIA.

WHAT ARE YOU AFRAID FOR? UNLESS YOU ARE HINDING SOMETHING THAT YOU DON’T WANT VOTERS TO NOTICE YOUR WEAK POINT. DEBATE IS AN INTEGRAL PART OF THE ELECTION PROCESS SO THE VOTERS WILL BE ABLE TO KNOW THE CAPABILITY OF THE CANDIDATES THEY ARE ELECTING.

DON’T SAY: “ITS AN OLD POLITICS”.

Have you ever know the Clintons to be honest? Only when caught!

We don’t need anymore debates simply because when she speaks she doesn’t inspire anybody rather she makes people sick. I was watching coverage of her giving speeches in Ohio and she had a woman get sick from just listening to her. And what about those people you see behind her wondering when she’ll shut up. It was funny that when she got done talking that half of the people didn’t stand up or clap when she finished. Talk about a lame duck candidate, she could bottle those speeches of hers and sell them for people with insomnia.

According to the website of the Library of Congress (www.thomas.loc.gov), Hillary served 6 years in the Senate plus 1 year of campaigning. In that time she managed to author & pass into law twenty (20) pieces of legislation to name courthouses, name post offices, honor Alexander Hamilton, congratulate 2 college lacrosse teams, honor firefighters who died on duty, designate part of the National Forest in Puerto Rico as part of the wilderness preservation system.

During his first year in the US Senate, Obama authored 152 bills and co-sponsered another 427, including the Coburn-Obama Government Transparency Act which passed & became law, the Lugar-Obama Nuclear Non-proliferation and Conventional Weapons Threat Reduction Act (which became law), the Governmental Ethics Bill (which became law) and the Protection against Excessive Executive Compensation Bill (in committee)

And there you have it, facts straight from the Senate record. Looks to me like Hillary’s the one who’s all talk and little else while Obama’s been making changes left and right. And for a 1-year rookie, that’s pretty impressive.

Now, which candidate would you want to represent YOUR interests?

Comment by jellyrollsbest

If people REALLY want a change they will vote for Obama. I seem to remember the Clintons in the White House already.

Comment by NO CHANGES WITH OBAMA

THERE IS NO CHANGES WITH OBAMA EXCEPT THE MEDIAS HELP AT HIDING HIS RECORD OF SUPPORTING THE WAR AND BUSH. Obamas record shows he supports the war, voted twice in 2006 against bringing America’s troops back home. He voted for war appropriations giving our money to Halliburton and Blackwater. His latest bit of posturing S 433 allows the Bush Administration to suspend any troop withdrawal!!!!if not suspended, still keeps the troops in Iraq for a long time to come? Obama when faced with tough choices always gave in to pressure from the Bush administration or corporate lobbyists. Such as Obama voted for Bush’s energy bill, sending more than $13 billion in subsidies and tax breaks to oil, coal, and nuclear companies. Obama voted with Republicans to allow credit card companies to raise interest rates over 30 percent, INCREASING STUDENT LOANS RATES AND FEES increasing hardship for families. Obama voted for one of Bush’s top priorities - expanding Nafta to South America - even as President Bush obstructed all the top Democratic priorities. Obama voted with Bush to make it harder for ordinary people to hold big corporations accountable when they do things like sell toxic toys, poisonous pet food, or just plain rip you off. Obama was the Senate’s biggest Democratic advocate of subsidies for liquid coal, even though liquid coal produces twice the global warming pollution of the crude oil it’s meant to replace and voted for increased subsidies, albeit with conditions.Obama, a Hamiltonian believer in free trade and supporters of globalization has lent his support to the “Hamilton Project formed by corporate-neoliberal Citigroup chair Robert Rubin and other ‘Wall Street Democrats’ to counter populist rebellion against corporate tendencies within the Democratic Party. Obama provided assistance to pro-war candidates (such as Joe Lieberman). Obama voted for “business-friendly ‘tort reform’ bill that rolls back working peoples’ ability to obtain reasonable redress and compensation…from corporations!!! Obama considers single payer universal health care too socialist and has stated that he prefers voluntary solutions. **He voted against requiring medical care for aborted fetuses who survive. Abortion opponents see Obama’s vote on medical care for aborted fetuses as a refusal to protect the helpless. Some have even accused him of supporting infanticide. He supported allowing retired police officers to carry concealed weapons, but opposed allowing people to use banned handguns to defend against intruders in their homes. And the list of sensitive topics goes on. With only a slim, two-year record in the U.S. Senate, Obama doesn’t have many controversial congressional votes which political opponents can frame into attack ads. But his eight years as an Illinois state senator are sprinkled with potentially explosive land mines, such as his abortion and gun control votes. recent land purchase from a political supporter who is facing charges in an unrelated kickback scheme involving investment firms seeking state business. Obama has no substance. He has provided no solutions.

Comment by Ric

Sarah as a debater you know that your statement here is vague. In what specific way has Mrs. Clinton actually provided evidence to having more experience? She is still a junior senator from New York State, where her and her husband moved to because it would provide an easy path to the senate. Her experience then includes having tea with the spouses of world leaders while her husband attended to the duties of being a president, or are you suggesting that Mrs. Clinton actually was the primary focus in those meetings with world leaders?

It appears to me by the record that we have two candidates with equivelent experience but only one that has managed to focus the popular vote, much as Nancy Pelosi has pointed out. With that said Mr. Obama will debate Mrs. Clinton again prior to the convention, for now he strategically focuses his energies on the voters, which should be the primary focus of a presidential candidate that claims to represent their party.

Obama said he goofed on votes angered fellow Democrats in the Senate when he voted to strip millions of dollars from a child welfare office on Chicago’s West Side. But Obama had a ready explanation: He goofed!

Also announced he had fumbled an election-reform vote the day before, on a measure that passed 51 to 6. The next day, he acknowledged voting “present” on a key telecommunications vote. He stood on March 11, 1999, to take back his vote against legislation to end good-behavior credits for certain felons in county jails. “I pressed the wrong button on that,” he said. Obama was the lone dissenter on Feb. 24, 2000, against 57 yeas for a ban on human cloning. “I pressed the wrong button by accident,” he said.

But two of Obama’s bumbles came on more-sensitive topics, he backed legislation to permit riverboat casinos to operate even when the boats were dockside.

The measure, pushed by the gambling industry and fought by church groups whose support Obama was seeking, passed with two “yeas” to spare — including Obama’s. Moments after its passage he rose to say, explaining that he had mistakenly voted for it.

Obama would later develop a reputation as a critic of the gambling industry, and he voted against a similar measure two years later. But he was clearly confused about how to handle the issue at the time of his first vote, telling a church group that he was “undecided” about whether he backed an expansion of riverboat gambling. And, months earlier, he had voted in favor of a version of the bill.

Obama’s vote sparked a confrontation after he joined Republicans to block Democrats trying to override a veto by GOP Gov. George Ryan of a $2-million allotment for the west Chicago child welfare office. being responsible,” said Sen. Rickey Hendon, accusing Obama of voting to close the child welfare office.Obama replied “I understand Sen. Hendon’s anger, I was not aware that I had voted no on that piece of legislation.

What’s fascinating about this Obama/Hillary clash is that there’s not a dime’s worth of difference between them. They both want to stomp on your groin and steal your wallet, but the left is wants to love whomever will stomp harder.

More corrupt camp donations for Obama! WHERES THE MEDIA??? We are sick of the media pushing obama down our throats! on Oct. 5, in the aftermath of federal bribery/extortion/conspiracy/other miscellaneous badness indictments of former Dallas Mayor Pro Tem Don Hill , Obama camp supporter and financial contributor to Presidential candidate Barrack Obama who desperately wants campaign cash from another, criminal or not, Again Obama camp has its hands full with other publically indicted bankrollers Rezko. Now Mr. Hill’s campaign finance report shows donations on April 28, and federal campaign finance reports indicate Mr. Obama received donations in June 22 as well. The Obama camp couldn’t immediately be reached for comment Friday…Of Couse, did axelrod loose his voice?
Obama’s Relationship With Rezko Goes Back 17 Years. Obama Kept Contributions From Accused Fixer’s (REZKO)Wife And Others ABCNews.com Analysis Shows the Campaign Still Hasn’t Returned More Than $100,000 in Obama is referred to in document which outlines case against Rezko As Barack Obama is finding out, it’s not as easy to dump politically toxic campaign donations as it might seem. For the third time in more than a year, Obama’s presidential campaign announced this week it was shedding more donations tied to indicted fundraiser Antoin “Tony” Rezko. Calculations by the media and Obama’s own staff of Rezko’s financial impact on his past political campaigns have been all over the map and shifting. In the case of Obama, public records don’t make clear every Rezko connection. The records show that since 1995, $74,500 came from Rezko, his relatives or contributors listed on official disclosure forms as employees of one of his businesses. Rezko has raised money for Obama’s presidential campaign.

Various media outlets have reported much larger numbers, though they haven’t clearly explained their methodology. The New York Times has pegged Rezko political cash for Obama at $150,000, the Sun-Times at $168,000 and the Los Angeles Times at $200,000. Last weekend, a report by ABCNews.com suggested more than $185,000. The event at Rezko’s home resembled a posh dinner party, complete with valet parking and catered dinner. Obama spoke after the meal, and told the crowd about how when he was still in Harvard law school Rezko, a developer, had tried to hire him. Obama staffers set up shop around the kitchen table, where they collected checks.

One donor at the event was Michael Sreenan, a former attorney for a Rezko company. Sreenan gave Obama $2,000 that night, but hasn’t heard if the campaign now plans to give it away.

Still, Sreenan said he was baffled by the notion of giving money raised at Rezko’s home to charity. “If [Obama] wants to give my donation back to me or let me give it to a charity, I’m fine with that,” he said. “But I don’t see how this makes a difference now — the money still got him elected. And how do I know it’s not going to a charity that’s offensive to me?”
Barack Obama has surfaced in the federal corrupton case against his longtime campaign fund-raiser, Tony Rezko Obama’s relationship with Rezko came under greater scrutiny this week after prosecutors disclosed Rezko received $3.5 million from an Iraqi

Although I do not care for either candidate, I would vote for Obama because Clinton has already had 8 years in power and accomplished NOTHING. Her true intent is to go down in history as the first madam president. When will Americans wake up and realize they have to kick both democrat and republican rear-ends out of the white house? Why don’t you all vote for an independent?

I support Hillary against Obama because I trust in the change that we can bring with her in office. I don’t like Obama because he is mostly fluff. I sure would love to hang out in the bar with him, but I would not want him as my President. Hillary might not be as flashy of a speaker, but she is certainly more substantive. Hillary’s baggage is already known. Republicans will find Obama’s baggage, and some is already coming out.

When Obama comes out with substance I might give him a second look. Till then he is a distant third in my choice for President. I would choose McCain over him (as an independent) because I want CHANGE and SUBSTANCE and LEADERSHIP. I don’t want a flashy speaker, I want solutions.

Obama skirts everything that will really bring out his inexperience. He refuses to debate on a one on one basis. These are the really important debates. The other debates had too many candidates. He skirts the question as to why he did not get back to Washington to vote on the Iran Resolution. The other candidates did. Where was he.? He says he always has been against the war and he was not even in the senate when the resolution was voted on. I always wonder what he would have done if trusted Colin Powell presented the lies to him if he were in the Senate? Obama is very good at getting out of situations with his lame excuses but if he becomes president we will all be in big trouble. He is not a presidential candidate he is a motivational speaker and the American public who are supporting him does not see this and they are setting the bar as low as it can be for this candidate. God Bless America if this candidate wins.

What we all need to do is get serious about our country and the need for change. It really chaps me when I hear “women” want to vote for Hillary just because she is a woman. The most progressive women in our history, in favor for the women’s vote and women’s rights, would still not vote for Hillary just because she is a woman. There is no point to be made here. We need to vote for the candidate “most likely” to save our country from a bleak future rather than have more of the same. The greatest attribute I can see that Obama has brought to the forefront of his campaign for the high office is his understanding of the issues and how they need to be resolved. Even if he is a rookie, in some respects, fresh views and attitude are what we need most. He knows we need to bring jobs back to the U.S, have a structure based on manufacturing rather than service, stop special interests from dictating our direction and clean up the planet and the government. If we all can not see the direction he is taking us for our granchildren’s future, some of us may need to take a U.S. history class. I for one need medical and can not get it from any agency and I think he can fix the mess Hillary and Bill made out of the system we did have in place. Remember Nixon? He had a great plan for health care in America and that was more than 30 years ago. Is there any reason why an American should not have glasses to read, teeth to eat with and medicines to cure their ills? What a tragedy. Thank you Jay for informing us about the candidates track record in the Senate. It just solidifies my choice.

Hillary says she has the experience, but does she really? She’s been a US senator since 2000 and before that did not hold any office. Obama has been a US senator since 2004 and was an Illinois State senator from 1996 to 2004. In terms of years in public office, Obama is her senior by several years. What the article says is that Whitehouse.Com is glad to hear that Mr. Sinclair would be willing to take a lie detector test and that they want him to put up or shut up and that he has until February 21, 2008 to respond to them. It also states that the Obama campaign is investigating to see who is behind this video.
What strikes me is that if this really happened 1999, why come out now and why file a claim in Minnesota if it occurred in Illinois as you claim.

Hillary accusing anyone of being afraid is curious. She voted for the Iraq war not because it was the right thing to do but because she was “afraid” to vote her mind and risk political damages. She is a true windsock (going with the flow). I remember how we wanted to come to her aid when Rick Lazio manhandled her during her Senate bid. Her new strategy of acting tough and raising boxing gloves to show how tough she can be is despicable and unbecoming of a lady. Just because she is running for President is no reason to act like a jerk.

Hillary is indeed desperate! Why hasn’t she presented her “outstanding senate record of substantive legislation, solutions, and accomplishment”? I’ll tell you why. She hasn’t accomplished anything substantive or FOR THE PEOPLE. According to her record she has done NOTHING to help the poor and middle class in HER OWN STATE. According to her senate record, she has been to busy naming libraries, courthouses, and postoffices; shaking hands with athletes, and attending funterals. Please read on:
Once again, for those who keep saying Mr. Obama has no legislative experience or that he cannot do anything, here are the FACTS:

“Senator Clinton has based her campaign on an erroneous claim to greater legislative and administrative experience. Former President Clinton talks up her role in his administration on the campaign trail but pointedly refuses to release any documents that would provide greater details on her actual activities there. It is broadly understood that Hillary spearheaded the response team that staved off Republican attacks and spun the many scandals of the Clinton years. As to her Senate record, no one in the press has had the diligence to lay out her record for the public to assess.

Senator Clinton, who has served only one full term (6yrs.), and another year campaigning, has managed to author and pass into law, (20) twenty pieces of legislation in her first six years.
These bills can be found on the website of the Library of Congress (www.thomas.loc.gov), but to save you trouble, I’ll post them here for you.

1. Establish the Kate Mullany National Historic Site.
2. Support the goals and ideals of Better Hearing and Speech Month.
3. Recognize the Ellis Island Medal of Honor.
4. Name courthouse after Thurgood Marshall.
5. Name courthouse after James L. Watson.
6. Name post office after Jonn A. O’Shea.
7. Designate Aug. 7, 2003, as National Purple Heart Recognition Day.
8. Support the goals and ideals of National Purple Heart Recognition Day.
9. Honor the life and legacy of Alexander Hamilton on the bicentennial of his death.
10. Congratulate the Syracuse Univ. Orange Men’s Lacrosse Team on winning the championship.
11. Congratulate the Le Moyne College Dolphins Men’s Lacrosse Team on winning the championship.
12. Establish the 225th Anniversary of the American Revolution Commemorative Program.
13. Name post office after Sergeant Riayan A. Tejeda.
14. Honor Shirley Chisholm for her service to the nation and express condolences on her death.
15. Honor John J. Downing, Brian Fahey, and Harry Ford, firefighters who lost their lives on duty.

Only five of Clinton’s bills are more substantive.

16. Extend period of unemployment assistance to victims of 9/11.
17. Pay for city projects in response to 9/11
18. Assist landmine victims in other countries.
19. Assist family caregivers in accessing affordable respite care.
20. Designate part of the National Forest System in Puerto Rico as protected in the wilderness preservation system.

There you have it, the facts straight from the Senate Record.

Now, I would post those of Obama’s, but the list is too substantive, so I’ll mainly categorize. During the first ( 8) eight years of his elected service he sponsored over 820 bills. He introduced

233 regarding healthcare reform,
125 on poverty and public assistance,
112 crime fighting bills,
97 economic bills,
60 human rights and anti-discrimination bills,
21 ethics reform bills,
15 gun control,
6 veterans affairs and many others.

His first year in the U.S. Senate, he authored 152 bills and co-sponsored another 427. These included:
**the Coburn-Obama Government Transparency Act of 2006 (became law),
**The Lugar-Obama Nuclear Non-proliferation and Conventional Weapons Threat Reduction Act, (became law),
**The Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act, passed the Senate,
**The 2007 Government Ethics Bill, (became law),
**The Protection Against Excessive Executive Compensation Bill, (In committee), and many more.

In all since enter the U.S. Senate, Senator Obama has written 890 bills and co-sponsored another 1096. An impressive record for someone who supposedly has no record according to the spin meisters and mindless twits. I challenge Clinton supporters to name a single legislative accomplishment that demonstrates her superior experience.

As everyone can see, Mr. Obama is a man of action whose senate record proves he is a man of great legislative experience, a presenter of solutions and accomplishment. He has authored and cosponsored numerous bills of substance, both in his years as a Senator of Illinois and in his two years in the U.S. Senate. Many of his bills have become law. Mr. Obama is the candidate who has brought SOLUTIONS of SUBSTANCE to many, many issues.

Both of the Clintons are somewhat nauseating to me. They are too much of a politician, say nothing of being attorneys. That should tell you something. My feelings are…if she wins, he will be calling the shots. I have not forgotton his finger pointing in our faces declaring his innocense in the Lewinsky scandle.
Obama gets the vote in my household, and another thing: sending Chelsea to stomp for her?
Would any logical person vote for Hillary because they listened to her daughter?

Hillary’s “relevant” experience began in 1991 when her husband became president, she was first lady for eight years and has been in the Senate 7. It seems to me that when you add it all up, Barrack is far more qualified:
Obama has 21 years of experience relevant to the presidency. He was a community organizer in blighted areas of south Chicago, he was a professor of Constitutional Law and civil rights attorney, he spent 8 years in the Illinois senate sponsoring bills which PASSED, and during his time in the US Senate he sponsored an Ethics Reform bill in the atmosphere of Abramoff. In his campaign he has taken the high road when it comes to finance funding by rejecting “legitimate” money from lobbyists and special interests and has raised much of his money from $25 and $50 contributions. His experience serving people and the way his campaign is run lead me to believe that he is more likely to represent my (ordinary American) interests than any other candidate in the field. To those who claim he doesn’t have enough experience, if being a career politician is what defines presidential experience, he certainly is not that.

Actually Charlie, I highly doubt if you would enjoy hanging out with Obama in a bar. Trouble is that he is not really a drinker. Water is his drink of choice and we all know what that can do to you. Now Clinton, on the other hand, would be a champion bar-mate. The she-Clinton would match you drink-for-drink (as she reportedly did with McCain in Eastern Europe) while the he-Clinton would choose the right woman for you to have a good time with at the end of the night. (as he reportedly did somewhere in the 90s)… Now that’s experience we can believe in.

Funny how that Clinton phrase from a debate (people chose George Bush because they wanted someone whom they can have a drink with) stuck with people. Thing is people rarely make the same mistake twice with different people. Instead, people like to make the same mistake twice with the same person. My point: bush-obama-someonElseIfThatDoesNotWork looks like a much smaller mistake than bush-clinton-clinton-bush-bush-clinton-clinton.

As a supporter of neither candidate (believe it or not), it amuses me to see how non-Obamans are constantly accusing him of lack of substance AND REFUSE TO LISTEN WHEN HE DOES SPEAK SUBSTANCE. What is the deal with that. Seriously, don’t you know that it is your own future that is at stake? It seems to me that it is time to set aside the loyalties to others and live by the loyalties to yourself and your children. Best of luck to all.

God help us if either of these liberal ninnies get any further than the Demo nomination. The terrorists are laughing with delight at the prospect of a Demo commander-in-chief. Both are pandering to the left. The left is wrong, dangerous, and counterproductive.

As an American that wants the best President possible to lead us forward, I want EVERY opportunity to hear the candidates discuss all of the issues before I cast my vote. There has only been one debate between only Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton thus far. Why would any voter not want more if given the opportunity? And, why would one candidate agree to debate and another not? All sorts of reasons come to mind in answer to each of these questions, but I’m trying not to be too cynical of the whole process.

Go Hillary!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There are many things with Obama that doesn’t add up, Please do your research before you do the wave. There are so many, this is just the abre min.

Ethical questions also surround Obama’s shady real estate deal and relationship with indicted political fundraiser and Arab-American activist Tony Rezko, who befriended Obama during his Harvard days.
Obama bought a $1.65 million dollar mansion at a gigantic discounted price, some $300,000 less than the asking price. The same day, Rezko’s wife bought the adjoining lot, paying the full $625,000 asking price. The Rezko involvement invited a second question for Obama: did Rezko’s wife in effect subsidized Obama’s purchase of the opulent home and also provided an abutting private preserve that adds to its ambience? The lot isn’t accessible from the public street but can be reached from Obama’s property.
Pretty good for a guy earning $165,200 per and who once ran his credit cards up so high that the credit card company denied him access to further use of his card.
Obama has proven himself to be a nearly perfect leftist dhimmicrat. He supports homosexual marriage, racial preferences, gun control, flag-burning, socialized medicine and the absolute right to abortion, including partial-birth abortions. He is anti-war, voted against the reauthorization of the USA Patriot Act, against privatizing Social Security and opposes the death penalty, three strikes laws and school vouchers. He has no military service record.
He believes in the separation of church and state — except when he campaigns in black churches.
He loves Jimmy Carter and is the 18th most liberal member of the Senate, receiving a 100% rating from Americans for Democratic Action, NARAL Pro -Choice America, National Organization for Women, the NAACP and the National Education Association.
Some may say that this backgrounder is biased, however, perception is everything in politics and both Ted Kennedy and CNN (Cable News Network) have mistakenly referred to Obama as Osama (as in Ben Laden).
I just don’t believe America will ever elect an urban-liberal, apostate Muslim and self-admitted drug user to the Office of the President of the United States.
What really scares me, though, is that I could be wrong.
Inspiration is nice. But some folks seem to be getting out of hand.
It’s as if Tom Daschle descended from on high saying, “Be not afraid; for behold I bring you good tidings of great joy which shall be to all the people: for there is born to you this day in the city of Chicago a Savior, who is Barack the Democrat.”
Obama supporter Kathleen Geier writes that she’s “getting increasingly weirded out by some of Obama’s supporters. On listservs I’m on, some people who should know better – hard-bitten, not-so-young cynics, even – are gushing about Barack…
Describing various encounters with Obama supporters, she writes, “Excuse me, but this sounds more like a cult than a political campaign. The language used here is the language of evangelical Christianity – the Obama volunteers speak of ‘coming to Obama’ in the same way born-again Christians talk about ‘coming to Jesus.’…So I say, we should all get a grip, stop all this unseemly mooning over Barack, see him and the political landscape he is a part of in a cooler, clearer, and more realistic light, and get to work.”
Joe Klein, writing at Time, notes “something just a wee bit creepy about the mass messianism” he sees in Obama’s Super Tuesday speech.
“We are the ones we’ve been waiting for,” Obama said. “This time can be different because this campaign for the presidency of the United States of America is different. It’s different not because of me. It’s different because of you.”
Says Klein: “That is not just maddeningly vague but also disingenuous: the campaign is entirely about Obama and his ability to inspire. Rather than focusing on any specific issue or cause — other than an amorphous desire for change — the message is becoming dangerously self-referential. The Obama campaign all too often is about how wonderful the Obama campaign is. “
The always interesting James Wolcott writes that “(p)erhaps it’s my atheism at work but I found myself increasingly wary of and resistant to the salvational fervor of the Obama campaign, the idealistic zeal divorced from any particular policy or cause and chariot-driven by pure euphoria. I can picture President Hillary in the White House dealing with a recalcitrant Republican faction; I can’t picture President Obama in the same role because his summons to history and call to hope seems to transcend legislative maneuvers and horse-trading; his charisma is on a more ethereal plane, and I don’t look to politics for transcendence and self-certification.”
Then there’s MSNBC’s Chris Matthews who tells Felix Gillette in the New York Observer, “I’ve been following politics since I was about 5. I’ve never seen anything like this. This is bigger than Kennedy. [Obama] comes along, and he seems to have the answers. This is the New Testament.”
And behold, Obama met them and greeted them. And they came up and took hold of His feet and worshiped Him.
The Holy Season of Lent is upon us. Can Obama worshippers try to give up their Helter-Skelter cult-ish qualities for a few weeks?
At least until Easter, or the Pennsylvania primary, whichever comes first…
UPDATE: Let me be clear: I’m not saying there shouldn’t be enthusiasm in politics. I’m merely touching on the fact that some Obama supporters’ exuberance seems to be getting a little out of hand. Obama himself joked about this at a Hollywood fundraiser, as noted in Men’s Vogue:
“When Morgan Freeman comes over to greet Obama, the senator begins bowing down both hands in worship. ‘This guy was president before I was,’ says Obama, referring to Freeman’s turn in Deep Impact and, clearly, getting a little ahead of his own bio. Next, a nod to Bruce Almighty: ‘This guy was God before I was.’”
Great job, Hillary on your win in New Mexico! Continue to campaign and reinforce to the average American worker that Obama continues to give invigorating speeches, but has never provided a plan to improve health care. Also, he has never addressed the high gas prices, heating bills, grocery bills. I applaud Obama for motivating speeches but we need someone who will produce and who actually has a plan to help the middle class struggling families. The term “Change” is only a word if you don’t have a plan!

“OBAMA” is a Republican in a donkey suit.
