Former rivals embrace: Romney endorses McCain
Boston, MA – Sen. John McCain all but sewed up the GOP nomination Thursday after receiving the endorsement of former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney.
Noting that his former rival “helped me become a better candidate,” McCain said Romney will help him “draw the stark differences” between the two parties during the general election.
For his part, Romney said that despite an extremely contentious campaign and their differences on issues ranging from immigration to taxes to campaign finance reform, it is time for the party to come together.
“I recognize, it’s time for us to put aside our differences and focus on the places where we think we have common ground and select our nominee and go forward together on a unified basis,” Romney said. “Right now the Democrats are fighting. Let’s us come together and make progress while they are fighting.”
Romney also directed the 280 RNC delegates he picked up during the early primaries to vote for McCain at the summer convention. However, rules governing pledged delegates are different in every state and while delegates traditionally follow the direction of their initial candidate, they are not obligated to do so.
With more than 820 delegates already in his column and the probable addition of Romney’s, McCain is within 100 delegates of the 1,191 necessary to lock in the nomination.
McCain said he believes Romney can be a helpful campaign asset in the Midwest (including Michigan) and the Northeast and also help the Republican party’s effort to retake the U.S. House and Senate.
As for Mike Huckabee, McCain continues to say that the Arkansas Governor can stay in the race for as long as he wants.

None of this would have ever been necessary if Fox News would have been fair and balanced in their coverage of the elections.
Congratulations Fox, you have destroyed the Republican Party with your obvious efforts to get Mitt Romney elected…catapulting a liberal into the GOP nomination. I hope next time you are given the opportunity to share the ideals of candidates, you cover ALL of the candidates instead of only focusing on your favorites.
You should be ashamed of yourselves for refusing to cover Mike Huckabee in the month of January. You have lost all of my respect and a viewer.
WHAT A SELL OUT. IM SICK TO MY STOMACH. I VOTED FOR ROMNEY IN IL FEB 5. THATS WHAT I GET FOR GIVEING A MORMAN A CHANCE. OH WELL HOPEFULLY OBAMA WILL TAKE THE CAKE.
Voting for Romney will still bring Romney delegates……Even though his delegates will most likely vote for McCain at the convention. If Romney still continues to get votes, McCain will see the people still want him, and he will need him for VP if he is to win against the Democrats. Check out http://www.unitethegop.com
Romney for VP
This changes absolutely nothing for those of us who support Governor Huckabee as the only choice for President, though I DO wonder just how hard Mitt had to hold his nose to do it. Does anyone remember McCain and Romney b%^&% slapping each other in the California debates over “timelines”? Good grief- politics makes for uneasy, queasy bedfellows.
I never liked Mitt, anyway- he’s the most artificial, plastic politician in recent memory- and he just proved it.
PLEASE, Conservatives: check out Mike Huckabee’s stands on all the issues that matter to you. You DO have a choice. This can easily be a brokered convention, and your voice should be heard.
I think Governor Mitt Romney should become Senator John McCain’s Vice President for the following reasons:
1. Mitt scored close second place finishes in many states where Senator McCain or Governor Huckabee won.
2. Mitt Romney currently has the second highest delegate count behind Senator John McCain.
3. Mitt Romney is releasing his delegates to Senator McCain to allow him to surge to the nomination.
4. Mitt Romney has done well among evangelicals in the West and other conservatives generally.
5. The Conservative Political Action Committee gave Romney the victory in both of their straw polls.
6. Mitt Romney has demonstrated his ability to turn businesses around through a significant understanding of the economy
7. Mitt Romney has all of the major conservative media strongly in his corner
8. Mitt Romney is well known for innovation and team work in his business ventures and government.
9. Mitt Romney does have an international coalition building and national security background through working with those nations who competed in the Salt Lake Olympic Games during the 9/11 terrorist attacks
10. Mitt Romney has had one of the largest support organizations in the Republican field that can lend itself to Senator McCain’s political assets in a run for the presidency.
11. Mitt Romney is a well known governor who erased a multi-billion dollar debt and gave Massachusetts a billion dollar surplus.
12. Senator McCain is absolutely in desperate need of the conservative bloc of the Republican party to win against the Democrats in November. Mitt Romney by several news accounts is “the face of conservatism in America.” Both of them can build a coalition that is more than strong enough to win against the Democrats in November.
13. Governor Romney would act as the conservative advocate in the office of Vice President in representing our perspectives on every choice facing the president.
14. Becoming the Vice President under a Senator McCain’s presidency would position Mitt Romney well for a run in 2012 and/or 2016. He would no longer need to spend so much of his own money to market himself to those who don’t know him or what he stands for.
These areas of experience provide far more benefit to a McCain candidacy than any other prospective Vice Presidential candidate could provide. There is nobody who would bring more conservative representation to a Senator McCain’s candidacy for president then Governor Mitt Romney. Out of all of the Governors, Senators, Representatives (past or present), nobody even comes close to what Governor Mitt Romney can offer.
We already know that Mitt is a team player because if he were not one, he would not have stepped down and joined in with Senator McCain at this critical time in the race for the presidency. This endorsement is the most important event to happen in the Republican party since the California primary. Where Senator McCain falls short, Governor Romney has strengths. To paraphrase Benjamin Franklin in his response to the drafting of the United States Constitution in relation to voting for Senator McCain having Governor Romney as his Vice President “I have some serious issues with this, but I am not sure that it is not the best we can do.”
Here, Here, Dan B! I agree with you. The obvious dismissal of Gov. Huckabee as a serious candidate is backfiring in the faces of the “conservative” media. Don’t want McCain? Only yourselves to blame. God help us. No, really.
As a conservative and a realist, there is no way I would vote for Mike Huckabee. I don’t believe in his stand on issues of making his religion a significant part of his politics. Governor Huckabee tells us “my religion defines me.” Nor do I like his stand on being a hardliner, who chooses to stay in the race for the sake of giving people a choice verses continuing to beat up on the eventual nominee of the party to the point that it would only hurt the positions conservative christians hold dear anyway. There is a huge difference between giving up and changing ones’ tactics for becoming a part of something that can successful further the issues all conservatives hold dear. Don’t you think it is time that Governor Huckabee not give up, but change his strategy and tactics behind something that has a better chance of success for the issues of conservatism?
Does anyone actually believe that a Hillary Clinton or a Barack Obama would strengthen the issues of conservative christians? I think not! Besides, why should the conservatives vote for Huckabee when he is only going to give them to McCain eventually anyway?
McCain is a loser. I am disgusted to see Romney endorse him. What “caliber” is Romney talking about in his endorsement. Now this senile old man cannot lead the GOP. He will return the favor by picking another sore loser - Joe Liebermann - for his VP. Mark my words!
Well, here we have yet another Romney flip-flop. In 1994 when running against Ted Kennedy for Senator of Massachusetts, Mitt positioned himself as being almost as liberal as Teddy, himself.
As governor of Massachusetts, Mitt took some rather liberal positions, just like other non-conservative Republicans such as Mike Bloomberg and Arnold Schwarzenegger. For example, he was pro-choice and in favor of gay civil unions.
Then, as he ramped up to run in the 2008 election, Mitt repudiated those positions and started running as a conservatives’ conservative, and this included some rather outspoken attacks on McCain for being too liberal. This caused Mitt to become the darling of the core conservative wing of the Republican party, many of whom hate McCain so much that they would rather vote for Hillary than to see him win the Presidency.
Now, many of those core conservatives are angry and feeling betrayed by Mitt because of his recent change of heart about McCain. But they should have known better, because Mitt has a history of changing his political stance to suit the moment — or more precisely, to suit his personal ambitions of the moment.
This BS about Mitt being “conservative” was spewed out on the airwaves by what is now the un-fair and un-balanced Fox News, whose massively pro-Mitt coverage greatly enhanced the effectiveness of Mitt’s own advertising. In fact, I dare say that the main reason for why many of the core conservatives were duped by Mitt was because of the Fox propaganda.
So now, Mitt has another agenda: he wants to be Vice President. Therefore, it’s time for him to change his position again and be Mr. kissy-and-huggy towards McCain.
What I don’t understand is how people can use the word “integrity” when talking about Mitt’s attributes. He carries himself well and has a straight-shooting, businesslike demeanor, and so he looks like someone for which the word “integrity” might apply. But all that is just window dressing. Look at the real Mitt Romney, and you’ll see a flip-flopper who makes John Kerry look like a rock of consistency.
its great, old gay boy shep is calling for Huckabee to drop out. Fox news is pathetic.
I am so glad there is some much intellect here.
I was thinking that Romney was doing the right thing by realizing that NOBAMA will win and all of our brave soldiers will have given their lives in vain if we don’t get behind one republican candidate NOW.
Thanks for setting me straight.
“Former rivals embrace: Romney endorses McCain”
Well, that along with their positions on civil unions should get them the GAY vote.
David… thanks for offering some common sense here, but I would be very surprised if McCain would offer Romeny the VP. I think McCain knows Romney is a very brilliant man with integrity and that’s not exactly what he’s looking for.
On that note… Huckabee seems to want the VP, but as Huckabee said on Hannity tonight, he doubts McCain will offer it to him.
RD : You are right in your thinking. Obama will win because lackluster McLame will get no votes in the south. All the states McCanin and Romney won will be swept by Obama. Romney’s endorcement will get the nomination, but will equal the “kiss of death” in the general election.
It will be LANDSLIDE OBAMA!
Thank you Mitt for your ignorance.
Mitt will never be VP or President. He is the Mormon version of Bill Clinton and the Clinton machine. He was only a viable candidate because he bought off Fox News and guillable voters who believe it is possible to flip flop on major moral issues.
I issue my challenge to Fox News once again. Report on the amount of coverage in the month of January for each candidate.
I’ll even make it easier for you…compare your coverage of Mike HUckabee in the month of January to that of Britney Spears.
I bet Spears received more coverage. Of course, if I am wrong, Fox News should be more than willing to prove it…but they won’t because their bias for the loser known as Romney is quite evident.
I will NEVER vote for Romney…and if the liberal known as McCain nominates him as VP, I will vote for Obama.
Thanks for destroying the GOP Fox News.
Dan B…
Now we know you don’t like gays or mormons.. how’s your stance on blacks and jews. Forget it… can just google the KKK.
RD,
I have no issue with gays or people who worship a man. They can do what they please. But I do have an issue with gay anchors pushing their agenda to get Mitt Romney Elected. I do have an issue with Fox news and their lackluster coverage of anyone but Rich Boy Mitt and Yankee Giuliani. I have an issue with Fox news covering Britney Spears, Paris Hilton and Natalee Holloway more than my man Huckabee.
Incidently, I would be black, RD.
To all of you who think that Fox gave any favortism to Mitt……You must be WE TODD DID!!! If it weren’t for Fox, Romney would have the nomination and he would have picked a better running mate. Maybe a Fred Thompson. So if you want us to take you seariously…Please pull you heads out before you speak! He’s endorsing McCain because Obama (anti-crist) has momentum and will probably win the dem nomination. If we can unite right now, we’ll have a much better chance of defeating Obama or Hillary in the general. If Huckabee does take this to the convention it will be detrimental to the party and the country. This is probably one of the hardest things Mitt has had to do. But, once again, he’s put the country first and himself second. Maybe Huckabee can take this to heart.
McCain/Romney ticket is our only hope.
It sounds like a lot of Huckabee supporters are upset because he is not going to get the nod for the Republicans. The differences between Huckabee and the others are very slight. The only real difference is that Huckabee is a Baptist Minister… SO WHAT! That will not make him a better executive and Commander in Chief.
Nate,
If you want us to take YOU seriously, please clean up your post so English speakers can understand what the hell you are saying!
As for the coverage…the truth is the truth. Fox News had a love affair with Romney and Giuliani. There coverage was simply a guise for campaigning for their favorite candidates. When you have the idiot morning crew attacking Huckabee and idolizing Romney, you know there is a serious issue and agenda.
Evelyn…
Below is a clip of text I found when googling Romney and gay marriage… please READ!
Romney has previously said he opposes discrimination against gays, though his recent political speeches have focused on his opposition to gay marriage. In a Wall Street Journal column last year, he wrote:
”That benefits are given to married couples and not to singles or gay couples has nothing to do with discrimination; it has everything to do with building a stable new generation and nation.”
Romney says he opposes gay marriage and civil unions for same-sex couples. Last year, however, he urged Republican lawmakers to support a proposed amendment to the Massachusetts Constitution that would ban gay marriage and legalize civil unions because, he says, he believed it was the only way to stop gay marriage. The Legislature supported that amendment and would need to pass it once more in order to place it on the ballot in November 2006.
”If the choice is between marriage and civil unions, I support civil unions. But my preference is neither civil unions nor marriage,” Romney told reporters last night.
I would also take the same stance as Romney and I do NOT support gay marriage. I also do NOT support discrimination against gays or for that matter any other group… including Southern Baptists (just kidding my dad was raised at a Baptist orphanage in Franklin, TN)
As far as Romeny’s integrity… FIND ONE… JUST ONE example of an ethics issue with Mitt. Here try this… google “ROMNEY” and “ETHICS”. Now try that with the rest of the candidates, McCain, Huckabee, Obama, and Clinton and then tell me about how some of us use the word “integrity” when talking about Romney.
Let’s talk flip-flopping… obviously you have never learned more about a topic or perhaps listened to the opposing view and changed your mind. No, of course not. I’ll bet you would never change your mind on a decision no matter how much your own desires would hurt someone else or even the entire country. Well Evelyn… you’re no Mitt Romney. He is willing to do the right thing regardless of his own desires… but I just don’ expect you will understand that.
Dan B- What part didnt you understand?
Dan B.
Funny how differently we all see things. I truly feel that Shep hates Romeny from his comments. In fact, I feel that all of the anchors at Fox News hate Romney. The only one that feel gave him a fair shake is Hannity and he didn’t endorse Romney until the last couple of weeks.
But honestly… when you call people gay and make comments about religions, it does sound like bigotry. btw… so what… your black. I’m an off shade of red. Am I supposed to applaud?
I think I can honestly say I know how the Iraqis must of felt when they were forced to vote for Sadaam. I hope it doesn’t come to cutting off our fingers.
Why are so many people trying to force this election, and intimadate everyone else into voting their way. Everybody has not voted yet, and until one candadate gets the magic number, it isn’t over. The process must of been set up this way for a reason. If not, why bother?
I have no doubt that McCain would be great on dealing with the war, but that doesn’t mean that no one else could do a great job, their is someone else that could. That is one issue that I believe he is strong in. Let’s not forget their are other pressing issues also.
Knowing how McCain voted regarding immigration in 2006 before he decided he would run for president again in 2007, troubles me a great deal. My feelings are sincere. Our state is giving out drivers liscense without checking out these people, insurance, is another story. There are many illegal immigrants here that are on food stamps with 7 to 10 kids and one on the way.
When American citizens in our state were losing their jobs in droves, many of them were turned away for food stamps, et. Most of them were seniors, like my father (who was about to retire in a year) who were forced out of their jobs due to the jobs leaving them. My mom is on disability. They couldn’t even get the time of day, and they had never had to ask for anything their entire lives from the government, or anyone. They have worked for everything they ever got. These people come into our country, unannounced and unchecked, and we are suppose to look the other way? When it hits close to home - that is when you start to see how it can impact your life.
I realize everyone may not feel the way I do, but I hope that they would at least respect my feelings.
If you think Flip Flip Mormon Boy is endorsing McCain and dropping out of the race because he has integrity, you are as naive as a little girl taking candy from a pedophile. Romney has never been an honorable man and he never will be. He is just a rich boy trying to gain political power and sympathy from the millions of Republicans who think he is a farce and loser.
Dan B.
“Worship a man”… careful… your intellect is showing and it’s looking like about a 6 at this point.
I’m trying to be searious here! If anyone that reads this actually thinks that the media had a love affair with Mitt, YOU NEED TO GET YOUR HEAD EXAMINED!!! Seariously! Since I live in Iowa I’ve been able to see this from the beginning. The local media gave Huckabee at least 6x the coverage and when they did give Mitt coverage it was the reporter talking and Mitt in the background. The media new the whole time…If they keep people from hearing Mitt speak that he would have a tough time. Mainly because they could call him a flip-flopper, rich, and Morman and that people would wrute him off. But, for the people that did hear him speak, they were hooked! That’s why he had to spend a lot of his own money ( even though he raised more than any other rep candidate). He had to buy his own press since no one else was giving it to him.
MCCAIN/ROMNEY 08
ROMNEY 2012
Nate,
Pretty much all of it. Talk to me when you graduate kindergarten.
Dan B.
So you don’t understand that you are WE TODD DID?
RD,
All you have to do is look at the coverage! Huckabee won IA and Giuliani…who didn’t even campaign until FL received more attention. Romney, who was a blip, received more coverage. Meanwhile, gay boy Shep and the rest of the Fox News hacks spent the little time covering Huckabee making sure the world knew he was a Baptist minister.
Nate,
‘Seriously’ is the word you are trying to spell. At anyrate, of course Huckabee got the local news coverage in IA…HE WON! What is shameful is that Fox News decided to cover Mitt Romney, Britney Spears, Paris Hilton and Rudy Giuliani more than Huckabee after his win that should have set the tone.
As for Romney buying votes…you are right! He bought every bit of attention he could get. He isn’t anything great…he is just a rich boy buying votes from people who can’t even spell ‘Mormon’. Its amazing how money can influence the slower types.
Nate-
Good one…you have to talk to certain idiots on these boards like they are in kindgarten. Fox News gave every edge possible to John McCain, anyone who can’t see this needs to get a brain, including Dan B. How do some of these morons sleep at night???
Why is it that some people can’t see the truth for what it is? I think Nate was trying to say that Huck got coverage in IA BEFORE the caucus.
Dan B.
Good for you… you can spell… now you need to learn how to READ!
Dan B
Did you tape one newcast and just keep repeating it? If not, you live in a different world than the rest of us. Come to think of it, you probably do.
I have no idea what we todd did means. It must be a Mormon Romney thing akin to marrying 80 wives.
But wait, did you misspell it?
RD,
I watch news for a living. I know how much coverage was given to the candidates. Do yourself a favor and ask Fox News to give you their version. When they don’t, ask them why. When they continue to ignore you…wonder why! The truth is, no matter what show, Huckabee was ignored in the month of January because the pundits at Fox wanted Rich Boy Romney to get the nomination.
You got me there Dan! I’m tying to do four things at once. Since this is not my full time job. Let me see if I can understand you better. You probably did ok in high school, then got a full ride at a nice college, had every company wanting to hire you, have a cush job making pretty good money where you put in 40 hours a week to do 10 hours worth of work. You probably spend the rest of your time hating the ‘white man’ since they keep your people down. From reading your earlier post I would have called you a bigot but now I know you’re probably more of a racist then you are a bigot. Either way you lose!
I left out that you probably can do what ever you want since you can’t get ‘fired’. Sound it out Dan!
Nate calls me a racist while inferring that I made it through college on Affirmative Action. I smell a bitter IA boy who is stuck shoveling cow dung because black people were given all of the opportunity and they hate the white man. Note to Nate: Your failure is not my fault. Perhaps you should listen to Huckabee’s story and understand where hard work can get you. Not everyone on this earth is born with a silver spoon in their mouth like Rich Boy Romney.
LMAO. You are a winner! At least, not too bright!
I read the story. I believe it goes something like this. Young boy gets teased, decides to quit sports and go into radio, after being teased more he decides to fight back with his words, becomes a very good speaker, learns how to play quitar to be popular, goes to a podunk evangelical college, learns how to get people to believe in his B.S, tries another college, drops out the first year, becomes a southern baptist minister,?,?,?, somehow becomes Lt. Gov. for one of the most unethical governors in the country, becomes gov. by default, takes bribes for pardons, gets son off for stoning a stray dog, pardons 12 murders, registers for wedding gifts after being married for 20+ years, took over $165,000 for various favors, destroyed hard drives in the governors office costing tax payers over 335k, and runs for president.
How is that supposed to impress me?
Dan B.
You watch news for a living…OK whatever. So let’s say you’re right… Fox gives more coverage to a McCain and Romney… the two leaders. So what…. I really don’t feel that a candidate that gets 1% of the vote is as news worthy as candidates that are getting 20 to 30% of the vote. Besides I am not going to ask Fox, the Huckster is OVER, gone, out-of it, etc. Who cares?
nate…
you forgot that he achieved the most coveted political award… Top Ten Most Corrupt Politician of 2007 from http://www.judicalwatch.com
You’re right RD! That’s the best one! But I’m just a hick from Iowa….What do I know!
http://youtube.com/watch?v=eUeeIoNxkEk
Is this really our frontrunner?
Romney is the best qualified candidate that we have had, maybe, ever. Many will back McCain if Romney is Vice President. Romney won the poll at the conservative political conference even after he dropped out. McCain needs Romney to unite the party.
Romney got out for the good of the Party but Mike stayed in for the good of the Country”. Excellent!
Nate,
Please note how Mormon Romney supporters think. Any black man who has achieved anything has only done so because of Affirmative Action. Nate, you give the GOP a bad name. Liberals play the racist card becomes of racists like yourself. You are an embarrassment to the GOP. You are the stereotype that has held back such a Grand Ol’ Party.
Your failure is not the fault of black people. It is your fault. It is not my fault you are a loser.
RD,
You obviously haven’t paid much attention to the elections. Huckabee WON IA…yet the biased Fox News kept their heads of the Mormon’s butt and bent over for Rudy Giuliani. As the candidate who won IA, Huckabee should have received the lion’s share of the coverage. But, considering the likes of Nate, I suppose Fox News and their likes don’t like Huckabee because he has been able to garner the black vote. What a shame. Racists destroying such a noble political party.
I am so sick of white losers who have failed in life pointing their failed fingers at conservative blacks who have had to struggle to achieve. Is the GOP racist….do all of you share the same redneck, racist views as Nate? Have all blacks overachieved because of the so called ‘Affirmative Action’, or is the response as seen by Nate simply a knee jerk reaction to existing as white trash shoveling cow dung for a living?
To RD:
With regard to my comment about Romney’s lack of integrity, I’m talking about how he changes his position and his image depending on the direction from which the political winds are blowing in relation to his personal ambitions at the time.
When Mitt was running for Senator in Massachusetts, he staked out some very liberal positions in order to compete against Ted Kennedy. When he was governor, he generally took a moderate position that had liberal aspects to it. Then, when running for the Presidential nomination, he staked out a very conservative position. Now, Mitt is backtracking from that strong anti-liberal, anti-McCain stance in his attempt to further his own career within the Republican party, either as Vice President or possibly as a high-ranking cabinet member.
If you look at what Mitt has done throughout his entire political career instead of just listening to his words of the moment, you will see a somewhat left-of-center pragmatism. He is a competent manager, and part of the reason for that is how he seems to put a higher importance on getting things done than on ideology. This means that Mitt apparently favors achieving his goals over being consistent in his political positions.
This can be looked at as a strength, as long as you, also, don’t put a huge stock in ideology, consistency, or truth. The problem is that Mitt staked out a strong and very clear ideological position in his campaign, and because of this position, he gained the support of many of the party’s core conservatives, who have been demanding ideological consistency and purity.
So in order to pander to this group, Mitt spent a lot time and money distracting people from looking at his left-of-center history, and he put on the “core conservative” mantle and fought hard from this position. He was helped by Fox News, who went all out in covering up Mitt’s more liberal past and portraying him as the Savior of Conservativism. Now that his candidacy has come to an end, Mitt is discarding that core-conservative mantle (just like he discarded his liberal mantle of the past) and he is now putting on a pro-McCain costume.
If Mitt ever makes it into national office, what makes you think that he’ll suddenly stop shifting his positions whenever he things that it’s convenient?
Maybe one the things you like about Mitt is his willingness to take on whatever ideology is suitable in the moment for him to achieve his ends. Or perhaps you like him because he seems to be the most electable person against Clinton or Obama, irrespective of his convenient (for him) political shifts. Or maybe you just like how he seems to be pragmatic enough to make compromises in order to get things done. All that is fine, but don’t call Mitt a “conservative”.
And don’t try to portray him as a person with deep political convictions.
David writes..

It’s HIGHLY doubtful Romney would run as McCain’s VP. Romney wants a shot in 2012 and if he runs on McCain’s ticket and they win then he has to run for another term as VP in 2012 when McCain runs for re-election. That would delay his bid until 2016. I’m not sure he will wait that long for another crack at the title. Conversely if he runs on the McCain ticket and they lose he will have taken political damage that may hurt his 2012 chances a’la John Edwards. I don’t see it happening.

Sure there are others that would be strong on terrorism. The problem is that they are NOT Hillary or Obama. Ahhhhh….but according to Obama there is NO illegal immigration problem and we are all just scapegoating remember? Pfft. I live in a border state and work in an industry where illegal immigration has a very serious effect. We all know the problems so I won’t bother to go into it, but I am always reminded about the time when Bill Clinton came to stay at the hotel I was working for. Days before the visit the secret service swept through the hotel and rounded up every illegal immigrant on the staff and deported them. And here I thought the Democrats were the champions of the poor illegals….except of course when they have to be around them I guess.

Wow I sense a lot of love on this board. LOL. To answer your question though…no…not all blacks “have overachieved because of the so called affirmative action”…but some have. On the other hand some whites have overachieved due to being born into an environment that was beneficial to them. Conversely, some whites have been shafted because of such policies and of course many blacks have been shafted because the environment was hostile and not beneficial to them due to their race. Failing to recognize both sides of that argument is naive, frankly. Many blacks take the stance that they don’t care if whites get shafted because of Affirmative Action as they have been getting screwed for years. They are free to take that stance if they wish but it really depends on what they are fighting for. If they want economic equality then by all means such programs are beneficial to their cause. If they want an end to racism and hope to achieve true racial unity then Affirmative Action is not in their best interests as we can clearly see just from this example that it creates racial tension.
Just depends on what you are fighting for. I have heard many blacks say “you can’t focus on the future when the past is staring you in the face.” My response is “then you need to change your focus because the past cannot be changed and everyone’s efforts are best used worrying about what we CAN do as a society and what kind of a society we wish to build from here rather than pointing fingers at each other for what has already happened.” JMHO.
I’m saddened by all of the religious vitriol being spewed in various posts. If a person wants to know about plumbing they should ask a plumber, not a veterinarian. If a person wants to know about Mormons, they should ask a Mormon. Likewise, if a person wants to know about a Baptist, they should ask a Baptist, and not vice versa.
There are plenty of Mormon (LDS) blogs out there written by LDS members. Here’s one: http://www.thoughtsonlds.blogspot.com
A little less hate, and a little more compassion will go a long ways.
What will be very interesting to see is what happens in the next severalprimaries. If McCain does not fair well and Gov. Huckabee draws enough support to forestall Sen. McCain from getting the neccessary delegates to win outright and force a vote at the convention, McCain could be in trouble. Gov. Huckabee could ride a swell of momentum all the way to the convention where conservative delegates can voice they’re distrust of McCain and throw they’re votes to Huckabee. Romney’s delegates are not bound to anyone yet so there is no immediate advantage for McCain from Romney’s endorsement. The possibility of Huckabee’s miracle is still alive and I for one will stay on his bandwagon until the end. Stay in it Gov Huckabee. You have a lot more support out there than FOX will admit.
Will Someone of intelligence do the MATH! Huckabee lost. Ok: there is someone else to vote for, but he lost. Mccain is the nominee. If you are a republican and beleive in the party then Vote for Mccain in November, FOR THE COUNTRY’S SAKE!! AND GOD BLESS AMERICA!
Well, I guess it is time to rally around McCain. Just like Reagan did with Ford. At least we know, McCain will only be in the White House for 4 years. I would rather that than 8 years of Obama or Clinton.
Ronald Reagan Would Back McCain
by Michael Reagan
In 1976 the Ford vs. Reagan campaign for the Republican presidential nomination got so heated it looked as if my father and Jerry Ford would never again talk to one another.
When it was over and Ford had won, what did Ronald Reagan do? He simply went all-out to help Ford win his re-election, as did I and as did my sister Maureen. My dad simply followed his rule of backing the Republican candidate no matter who he was.
Assuming that John McCain will be the Republican nominee, you can bet my father would be itching to get out on the campaign trail working to elect him even if he disagreed with him on a number of issues.
Unlike my father, a lot of conservatives stayed home in 1976, and we got four years of Jimmy Carter, whose main legacy was to drive the Shah of Iran from power and create the Islamic Republic of Iran with a bunch of wild-eyed mullahs running the show. He also gave us 20 percent inflation and long, long lines at the gas pumps. And don’t forget 440 days of Americans held hostage by the mullahs.
By staying home those conservatives made possible the future election of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
We are still suffering from the legacy of James Earl Carter, thanks to the conservatives who refused to follow Ronald Reagan’s example and instead sulked at home while the nation was being handed over to the worst president in American history.
We were still in the middle of the Cold War in those days, and by staying home conservatives risked losing that war by allowing an incompetent leader to become commander in chief.
Four years later Ronald Reagan took over, the hostages were immediately released, and he went on to win the Cold War. Now we have another world-wide war going on with a hidden enemy sworn to kill us all, and the policy of the Democrats running for the presidency is to throw up their hands and withdraw from the battlefield, leaving it to the enemy — and our fate in the hands of Osama bin Laden.
Is that what the let’s-stay-home-on-election-day conservatives want? Do they want the most liberal member of the U.S. Senate, Barack Obama, as their president? Do they want the pseudo-Marist Barack Obama — who reportedly has a photo of the murderous Castroite thug Che Guevara hanging in his Houston, Texas campaign headquarters — hanging that photo in the Oval Office?
Do they want Hillary Clinton, the duplicitous former first lady, back in the White House enjoying all those furnishings she and her husband tried to swipe from the mansion?
Do they want a Democrat spending even more money that the government doesn’t have on scores of programs right out of Karl Marx’s playbook?
That’s exactly what they’ll get if they sit out the election and stay home on Election Day. That’s called biting off your nose to spite your face. Or even more to the point, political suicide.
Let me say this. There has been plenty of battling in the primaries, and I’ve been in the middle of the battle, but until now haven’t committed myself to any candidate, waiting until we had a nominee.
That’s over.
If John McCain is the nominee of the party, this Reagan will happily campaign with him. The alternative is unthinkable to anyone who loves this nation.

All you mournng Huckabites. When Mitt was ahead in the delegate count andit was becoming clear it was really a two man race (with a tag along spoiler in he mix) he pleaded with you conservatives (of the religiously bigoted variety) to see that a vote for Huckabee was a vote for McCain. Well you voted for Huck–split th conevative vote that should have gone to Romney and you got McCain–just what you voted for as Mitt told you it would be.
You made your bed so slep in it and quitchermoanin’!!!
Look at the options Mitt has….He either endorses the candidate that will surely acquire the needed delegates to go on, or stand behind…shuddddeeerrrrr!!! Huckelbee? No way. Huckabee is just waiting for McCain to have a “miracle” heart attack. Mitt will no doubt receive the 2012 GOP endorsements he needs to clean up the democratic mess left behind by Obama.
I HEART HUCKABEE!!!!!!!!!!!!
Marie,
You are RIGHT on. All the supporters of Huck are directly responsible for the rise of McCain. Let’s see if they will admit it.
Huckabeenites - IT IS OVER! Your candidate has left you and is now in the Cayman Islands making some bucks to pay for his mortgage. Move on with your lives. Give McCain the nomination. I don’t like it either but we need to make sure Obama or Clinton does not take the Whitehouse. Huckabee will go down in history as the spoiler, the nuissance, and the iritant that made McCain the GOP Nominee because he couldn’t stand a Mormon to be the nominee! Huckabee is a selfish religious bigot.
Dan B- Your’re showing your bigoted nature again…Assuming I’m a mormon. I’m not by the way! I like MItt Romney because he’s a good man and he has good ideas. Also, I didn’t state that all black people are successful because of affimitive acton, I just thought from reading your earlier post that you were probably one that did. Your distain for rich white men is obvious! If I’m wrong about you I apologize. I believe that you let your bigotry cloud your judgement when it comes to seeing what Mitt can do for the country.
Take care!
Romney completely lacks integrity -
A week or so ago . . .
“McCain is a liar and a liberal! To elect him is to just put the same old broken Washington people in different chairs.”
…Oh, wait, the political headwinds are now blowing in another direction…my self-centered aspirations are now best served by a different approach…
So, yesterday . . .
“McCain is now a heroic American and admirable Republican who is worthy of our party’s nomination. I support him and urge all of my delegates to do the same.”
FLIP-FLOP, FLIP-FLOP, FLIP-FLOP!
P.S. All of you Mormon bloggers, get over it! You are so broken-hearted by Romney’s loss…it’s obvious you think a Romney presidency would somehow lend credibility to your cult and its false teachings. If the Mormon Church really is “THE ONE, TRUE CHURCH” as your missionaries and members testify, why do you need Romney to be President for you to feel secure in your religion?
Reagan would vote for McCain.

I COULD NEVER VOTE FOR MIKE HUCKABEE BECAUSE OF WHAT I’VE LEARNED ABOUT HIM
Many would question whether Mike Huckabee is a true conservative; I would question whether he is even a true CHRISTIAN! For an ex-Baptist preacher, the man sure has a potty mouth! Re: where to put the flag pole if anyone disagreed with his position on the Confederate flag, and also considering the risqué music/song lyrics used by Huckabee and his band, Capitol Offense. Imagine the pastor of your church singing H*y Tonk Woman or Devil With a Blue Dress (song lyrics would be offensive to many) (www.irdial.com/blogdial/?p=909).
Huckabee has a history of corruption and lack of ethics and is one of two republican presidential candidates on the list of TOP TEN MOST CORRUPT POLITICIANS of 2007 (www.judicialwatch.org). One example, after being married for 30 years, Huckabee set up a WEDDING registry at Target for him and his wife to receive gifts for their house. The wedding registry was a way to avoid ethics laws prohibiting gifts to politicians.
Huckabee has also spawned a son who stoned and hung a dog to death. David was fired as a Boy Scout’s counselor for disobeying the “Be Kind” rule. Daddy Huck hindered the police investigation of David for animal cruelty. This should bring pause to anyone thinking of voting for Huckabee. Family animal cruelty issues often times indicate other problems as well.
His personality is described at Wikipedia as petty, thin-skinned, self-righteous, and somewhat vindictive (www.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_Huckabee).
He could never win in a general election. Imagine his Confederate flag flap being played over and over in the Dem’s TV ads. And he wants to amend the Constitution to ban abortions and gay marriage. This would alienate too many moderates and independent–you’re wasting your vote if you vote for Huckabee.
[...] Throws His Support To McCain by Carl Cameron Click here to read embed producer, Mosheh Oinounou’s take on the anticipated [...]
Romney and McCain both acknowledged that they STILL disagree on a lot of issues, but let’s face it, even though McCain may not be our 1st or 2nd choice, he is much better than the alternative.
Nate-
I just read through these comments, and I commend you for standing up to Dan B. and trying to show him the truth. Even though he’s just one person, he’s an obvious loser and deserves to be called on it. Funny, he thinks you shovel cow dung in IA…based on your intellectual observations, I’m guessing you are a successful person, what a juvenile argument to make. Isn’t that the most stereotypical thing, people think that all of us from the midwest are a bunch of farmers, they are soooo far off. That man is such sad person. I feel sorry for him.
