The Edwards Impact
Political endorsements, for all their promise of acquiring additional financial support, have long been seen as meaningless in swaying voters. Yet in this tight two-way Democratic presidential race between senators Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, there is one endorsement that may well determine the outcome of the race—that of former presidential candidate John Edwards.
Both Clinton and Obama all too clearly understand the impact his support will carry, and, of course, have courted him for several weeks. Obama reportedly expressed interest in Edwards’ endorsement before he even dropped from the race. Clinton said on Saturday that she intends to ask Edwards “to be a part of anything I do at the White House,” and praised his universal health care plan and commitment to fighting poverty.
Sources within the Edwards campaign have described the former North Carolina senator as “very torn” over whom to endorse, adding that he has been in talks with Clinton and Obama “for weeks”—a revelation that has surprised many, especially those who believed an Obama backing was inevitable. On the campaign trail and in debates, Edwards often criticized Clinton by labeling her “an agent of the status quo,” while aligning himself with Obama for advocating change.
Whoever ends up winning Edwards’ support will stand to gain both delegates and supporters, and the stakes are high in a race in which the three biggest primaries still lie ahead—Ohio, Pennsylvnia, and Texas. Though it is not clear whom he will choose, Edwards’ indecisiveness—assuming it is genuine—indicates he is not completely convinced yet that either candidate is best suited to take the White House. He will likely evaluate their candidacies based on the issues he devoted himself to—fighting poverty, offering universal health care, and standing up to big businesses and their powerful lobbies.
Whom do YOU think he will endorse? I welcome your comments.

Instead of endorsing either Hillary or Obama now, Edwards, if he really cares about eliminating poverty in the USA, should attend the Dem convention and give a rousing speech supporting the nominee. He can outline his own goals and vision for the future, even if he failed to communicate them effectively to voters during his own campaign, and try to get support for those positions.
Personally, I think, he should tone down his anti-corporate rhetoric and start thinking about how he can position himself in 8 years in order to become a real force in American politics. I think, he did not do his homework after getting the VP spot in 2004. If he really means what he says, he can redefine himself instead of fade away into oblivion. He is still young and can run for office once again. I wish him all the best.
HE HAD TO TAKE A COUPLE OF WEEKS OFF TO GET A HAIRCUT—-IT DOESNT MATTER—DEMOCRATS HAVE BECOME THE OLD REPUBLICAN PARTY—-THEY COURT THE RICH–THE REPUBS ARE THE OLD DEMS==FOR THE LITTLE GUY
I really think that Edward’s endorsement is irrelevant at this point. That being said, if he were to endorse Hillary Clinton after campaigning so harshly against the taking of lobbyist money, he would be seen to just have been effectively lobbying himself into a position in her cabinet. If he endorses Obama, well I think many of his supporters have already come over to Obama. So Obama does not really need his endorsement.
When Edwards first started out, I supported him. But he really has not worn very well. He comes across as very false.
I think the reason barrack obama did not meet with edwards is there is no way barrack would pick him for vice president. I think he is going to pick the govener of mass who happens to be african american. Lets see if he wins how diverse his cabinet would be. I mean barak is half caucasion half african american and he does not embrace 50 percent of who he is. How can he be honest to the people when he can not be honest with himself. I have never heard him speak of his grandparents who raised him from the age of ten. He called them the white folk. This is offensive. He claims to not take money from lobbyist and i guess you do not need to when you have access to oprahs billion dollars. I sometime feel that the wealthy and more educated support barak because its some sort of reperation thing. The democrat system with these caucases and the fact there denying florida and michigan residents of there vote is nothing short of communism. Anyway i heard a rumer condi rice may run as vp for mcain.
GO JOHN
Edwards is about as relevant as Mr. Rogers at this point.
I am hoping he endorses Hillary, Obama scares me.
His endorsement means diddily squat. Who he gives his delegates to matters.
I think he would be more apt to have Gov of VA then MAss. for vp if any of the 2.

Me too. He gives a great speech, he’s charismatic, and inspiring…but I don’t think people are listening to WHAT he says as much as HOW he says it. I saw a focus group the other night an the Obama supporters were asked to name an accomplishment of his. None of them could name a single one….not even ONE. So they were asked again why they support him and it was as you would expect “inspirational, energizing”, etc. The man has done nothing at all. One guy actually said “well he voted in favor of…” whatever it was. THAT’S his accomplishment? He voted? LOL. Of course he voted present 100 times or so…so perhaps for him that IS an accomplishment.
I need direction from John Edwards regarding a food safety issue. Does anyone know how I can reach him? Thanks.
Anthony.. You should really read the article before you comment!!! Barack has been in contact with Edwards. You should also actually HEAR the man speak before you comment on who he mentions in his speaches. I have heard him speak several times and he ALWAYS mentions his grandparents! HE doesn’t call them his WHITE grandparents but then again I dont call my middle daughter my WHITE daughter either. But, I guess WERE the ones with the problem HUH! LOL You guys KILLL MEEEEE HEHEHEHEHEH!
First, Edwards should endorse Clinton for the simple reason that their causes are more closely aligned. Edwards himself said in one of the debates that only two of the candidates supported universal heath care and that the one who didn’t was Obama. Secondly, Obama’s claim that he does not take money from lobbyist is false. If you listen carefully to him, he says that he will not take money from federal lobbyist - what he doesn’t say is that he has, and continues, to take money from state lobbyist. Thirdly, I don’t think this country can be run on hopeful rhetoric. It’s going to take hard work and he hasn’t shown that he is capable of that. And lastly, it seem to me that the majority of Hillary Clinton haters hate her simply because she didn’t divorce Bill. (At least that is what the people I have talked to have said) For a country that prides itself on so called “Family Values” I find it very disturbing that she is not allowed to forgive a cheating husband and keep her family together and although I’m sure people think that she didn’t divorce him for a variety of unsavory reasons, I think looking to their daughter will give you the real reason.
I have grave concerns over John supporting either Hillary or Obama. Hillary is very much the lobbist’s candidate and I tremble at the thought of having a man who was sworn in using the Karan rather than the Bible. He will not repeat the Pledge of Alliagence and faces away from the American flag. American or Muslim???
We are registered Democrats and if Obama wins the nomination we will be voting for a Republican. Obama is not strong enough to be President. He is pushing the movement of Martin Luther King thats all he wants to do. He’s too young also and I’m not ready for a black president that really is for only moving the movement ahead
ANTHONY… YOU ARE AN IDIOT… IM NOT EVEN A BARACK SUPPORTER, BUT WHEN I READ STUFF THAT MISINFORMED PEOPLE LIKE YOURSEL RIGHT ABOUT, IT MAKES ME WANT TO VOTE FOR HIM. HOW ABOUT YOU DO YOUR RESEARCH FIRST, BEFORE YOU MAKE ANOTHER IDIOTIC COMPLIMENT. BY THE WAY, I HAVE BEEN TO TWO OF HIS SPEECHES AND IN BOTH SPEECHES HE HAS MENTIONED BOTH SIDES OF HIS FAMILY, THE WHITE AND THE BLACK PART. HE ATTRIBUTES HIS EDUCATION AND STRENTGH TO HIS MOTHER, THE WHITE WOMAN. SO BEFORE YOU SAY SOMETING DUMB AGAIN, PLEASE READ, RESEARCH AND THINK ABOUT IT..
NAN.. YOU ARE AN IDIOT AS WELL… PUSHING THE MOVEMENT OF MARTIN LUTHER KING… WHICH WAS FREEDOM AND EQUALITY FOR ALL IS SOMETHING WORTH FIGHTING FOR.. EITHER YOU ARE A RACIST OR JUST A PLAN IDIOT. IM EMBARRASED TO BE A WHITE MAN, WHEN I READ STUPID COMMENTS LIKE WHAT YOU WROTE ON THE COMMENT PAGES… PEOPLE LIKE YOU ARE THE REASON THIS COUNTRY IS NOT PROSPERING… MLK.. FOUGHT FOR FREEDOM.. AND YOU SEE SOMETHING WRONG WITH THAT… HOW ABOUT U PACK YOUR STUFF UP, AND MOVE TO GERMANY.. WHERE THERE WAS NEVER A CIVIL RIGHTS BATTLE FOUGHT. THATS WHERE YOU NEED TO GO.. OPEN YOUR MIND, AND STOP MAKING US “WHITE FOLK” LOOK BAD….
It is about the Democratic party, we have a shot at going 16 years with a Democrat President if Hillary Clinton is nominated in 2008, with a vice president of Obama. If we nominate Obama and he fails to win the presidency we will have 8 plus years of Republicans in office.
Super deligates can certainly stear the election to protect the party AS WELL THE SHOULD.
Of course the Republican want Obama, the will knock him off now and run a streek again.
Sorry folks it is about the Democratic Party, Obama may be a fine president some time, but too risky to do it now, when you have a perfect combo to run the table. Voter in future states should look at the big picture for the party and the country.
I sure hope the DNC does not screw this up, I am pretty sure they are aware of the above.
Obama folks don’t get too excited if Hillary wins, she will carry Obama with her in some capacity for the sake of the party, she and democratic party leaders know his talent.
WE NEED NEW BLOOD AND SOMENEW NEW IN THE WHITE HOUSE AND WE DO NOT NEED ABOUIT 8 YEARS OF THE SAME OLD STUFF… LET TRY SOMETHING NEW…. OBAMA CAN HURT US … IF HE CAN CUT IT WE WILL GET HIM OUT IN FOUR YEAR
Edwards clearly should support Obama. Clinton supporters will say or do anything to win. Obama is too young - he is older than John F. Kennedy - one of the most inspirational Presidents of the United States. Obama doesn’t have enough experience - he has more elected experience than Hillary Clinton. Senator Obama was an Illinois Senator for 8 yrs. before being elected to the US Senate where he has served 3 yrs. so far. That gives him 11 yrs to Hillary’s 7 yrs. in the US Senate. Being someone’s family member doesn’t equal true job experience but it does give one great advantages in terms of institutional support, and political connects with Washington powere brokers and lobbyists. With all these advantages including a US President actively campaigning for her she is still losing… She is the wrong candidate if the Deomcrats hope to beat a McCain or Huckabee/Romney or Lieberman ticket. The best ticket for the Democrats would be Obama/Gore or Obama/Edwards. Hillary would just drag the ticket down vs. the Republicans. All the polls are coming up with the same results. 44 yr. old Obama beating 71 yr old McCain. And Hillary 61 keeps claiming experience is the key. Yes, she is almost 20 yrs. older than Obama but if experience is the key to election McCain would crush her with his vast military and political experience. Edwards sided with Obama during the campaign trail saying he and Obama were the candidates of change. He should stand by what he said and endorse Obama and have his delegates vote for Obama. Edwards should act today because Obama will win more big victories today and his endorsement would help Obama perhaps win Texas, Ohio, Michigan and Rhode Island. The Democrats could unite around the ticket and start preparing for McCain in the General Election. The Superdelegates should hear the voice of the people who want true change. The majority of the states have voted for Obama and the superdelegates should follow suit. John Edwards its time to show you love your country please endorse Senator Obama soon!!!
Either way its lose-lose. So Edwards should support which ever candidate will make him Attorney General.
To “Wanda N”
Senator Obama is not a Muslim. Don’t be so ignorant.
MY GOD, IM A PROUD REPUBLICAN, I WILL NOT VOTE FOR MCCAIN OR HILLARY.. THE ONLY REASON IM VOTEING FOR BARACK IF HE MAKE’S IT, PEOPLE LIKE NAN, WANDA, AND THE REST OF THOSE WHO HATE BARACK SIMPLY BECUASE HE’S BLACK. IM PRAYING THE DEMOCRATES NOMINATE HILLARY… IT WILL SHOW BLACK AMERICANS, MY GENERATION (1970), THE TRUTH ABOUT DEMOCRATES.. THEY HATE BLACK’S.. WE HAVE DONE MORE FOR THIS COUNTRY THAN ANY MEXICAN, IT WOULD BE NO DEMOCRATIC PARTY IF IT WAS’NT FOR THE LOYALTY OF OLD HOUSE ( ZIGGERS )… SO GO AHEAD VOTE HILLARY.. REPUBLICANS ARE PRAYING FOR YOU DEMOCRATES TO COME SAVE THE DAY AND UNITE MY PARTY… PLEASE HELP HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA
Wanda N. confuses Barack Obama with Minnesota Congressman Keith Ellison. Obama, a devout Christian, has never employed the Koran at a swearing-in ceremony; Ellison did use Thomas Jefferson’s copy of the Koran at his ceremony. Moreover, Ellison does not turn his back on the American flag nor does he refuse to recite the pledge of allegance. Wanda, where do you get such errant information?
Liberalism is a disease - a mental disorder.
Liberal leaders presume to live in circumstances of conspicuous consumption, while systematically extorting money, property, and personal responsibility from their followers under the premise of “fairly” redistributing said money and property to others. Ironically, the liberal leaders are exempt from their own redistribution of wealth policies.
So the liberal leaders set the rules, but don’t have to abide by them, while at the same time followers are complicit in relinquishing money, property, and individual responsibility to the liberal leaders.
Power is ultimately consolidated and the population is devoid of willingness or resources to extricate themselves from the predicament to which they willingly contributed. To consciously engage in such a behavior as to weaken one’s self beyond the means of sustaining one’s self is not the behavior of a healthy mind.
I am hoping he endorses Obama, Hilliary scares me.
This democrat went one step further… I am now a republican and will endorse mccain. farewell cult followers
John
So you went to two of his rallies and you are not a obama supporter?
I stand behind my comments. Larry king asked michelle obama about how it felt to possibly have the first african american president. Her response should have been the first biracial president! . I have listened to his speeches on tv and interviews and i think he is playing the race card . Excerpts from his book which is his own handwriting talks about his struggle with his racial identity and how he did not seek to embrace his white side and how he called his grandparents the white folk.We are talking about someone who wants to be the president of the united states which is a country of all races and religions and i do not think he will be fair to all. I am entitled to my opinion and there are no subjects or topics off limits to discussion . And i respect the right of you calling me an idiot ,however just because thus far senator clinton and the media was too nice in this campaign to barak does not mean if he were to win the nomination it will stay that way, so let the games begin!
He should endorse Hillary. Their core voters share much more in relation to issues than Obama. That is the reason that Obama carries the “affluent white vote” per the media. Not to mention, she leads in the popular vote and carries the blue states. Add to this that Edwards received no media attention due to the race betweeen Obama and Hillary. However, in the month of December and January, the media covered Obama with a very positive slant and made him look like a saint as he spoke whatever he wished to get votes and never questioned his experience or background. Obama spoke of change and hope while Edwards and Hillary spoke of real issues and had a plan to solve these issues. And in this state of this country, we need an experienced ahnds on President. We do not need a rhetoric concert blower, but a President of the United States. Edwards know this. And he knows that Hillary is not only qualified but a true Patriot. Surely he will endorse her. And a Hillary/ Edwards ticket would be pretty nice, too. I like both of them and would vote as such.
John Edwards is a timid self serving political scaredy cat. He wants to make sure his endorsement is the winner. He was always anti Hillary until now- he is not quite sure? He was not the status quo and now he will sway whichever way wins. Whatever happened to your millworker ideals? There should be no question that you are with Barack. Was your stump speeches all baloney? Show some spine and help Barack get the things done you so eloquently talked about in your campaign. Don’t fall for the Clinton smoke and mirrors. You should be ashamed at yourself for waiting this long.
I will lose all respect for John Edwards if he endorses Hillary-no matter how he spins it, he would become a hypocryte in my mind, and I will never forget it.
PMC,
Look up the word “patriot” in the dictionary. Then get back to us on your assertion that Mrs. Clinton is one.
PMC,
I did some homework for you:
Patriot.
1. a person who loves, supports, and defends his or her country and its interests with devotion.
2. a person who regards himself or herself as a defender, esp. of individual rights, against presumed interference by the federal government.
Based on the Random House Unabridged Dictionary, © Random House, Inc. 2006.
I think have confused Hillary Rodham Clinton with someone else.
Edwards has long to change the ways business goes in Washington. He may eventually back Obama who appears to stress on change in Washington. But who knows. Once in Washington, almost all politicians have turned out to succumb to special interests’ for their own benefits one or more ways anyways.
To those of you that say Obama is not a muslim you are correct. However, he did attend muslim school in Asia in his childhood. His mother married a muslim from Kenya (not an african american), Obama’s father, and named him as such. When she divorced his father; she married another muslim man. Doesn’t sound too much like an American upbringing to me, which is fine, unless you want to be the American President.
While American students, of all races, were citing the Pledge of Allegience to the Flag, he was reading muslim teachings in Asia. I won’t vote for him because of it, especially at this time in history in the United States. Even though it is in his past, it is just not the Patriot upbringing I would expect and require from someone running for the office of President of the United States and also serve as Commander and Chief. I would venture to guess that someone from Kenya or a mideast muslim nation would feel the same about an American or Muslim running for President of their country if raised with a Christian upbringing and spent their childhood as such.

Why I’m voting for Obama:
1 - I want more handouts from the federal government because I’m too lazy to help myself.
2 - I want more time off from work, because I really don’t like having to get up and go there.
3 - I want other people to pay higher taxes to support my laziness and ignorance.
4 - I want abortions on demand, paid for by others, because people shouldn’t be accountable for their actions.
5 - I want health care paid for by people who pay taxes, but not me.
6 - I’m not interested in national security.
7 - I’m ignorant, and want to remain that way.
8 - I’m selfish and want something for nothing.
9 - Obama sounds good.
10 - Obama isn’t white.
I am so tired of all the running Democrats continue to give anti-corporate rhetoric, which will prove to be their downfall in November. These corporations will start to slowly leave the USA and go to other countries which are giving them huge tax breaks, while the Democrats want to TAX the hell out of corporations. So the Democrats are foolish in continuing with their anti-corporate rhetoric. Bite the Hand that Feeds Us Right! No wonder jobs are leaving us at an alarming rate.
Thank You Democrats for keeping me unemployed and dependent on social programs such as the corrupted WELLFARE Program.
If the Democrat Social Programs are so great and Washington wants’ to control everything please explain why the Social Security program is broke…oh there that word SOCIAL again! I guess it should make me feel good! Bull, it reminds me of the socialist party.
WAKE UP AMERICA!
Get up and start being independent!
I was going to vote Edwards until he dropped out, now I’m all Obama. He reminds me of JFK during my youth and how I and others rallied behind the young leader because he represented change to us and that was what we wanted.
Hillary preaches that she is going to fight and work hard for the people, yet here in Maryland I have not seen one person from her campaign out in my part of the state nor did I see one flyer nor did she bother to visit my area. She has repeatedly stated that these states mean nothing because I wasn’t favored to do well anyway which is sense discounting all those people in these areas. She claims that the big states are what matters so I ask you… is this the sign of a leader? All she does is throw in the towel and concedes any chance of gaining an advantage rather then fight for voter support. Sounds to me that her motto should be… I am for only the big states forget the little people.
As for Mr. Obama he has made stops all over the state as well as having people out knocking on doors and talking to people and handing out fliers. He even made the effort to visit my area Saturday to talk the people. This is what makes a real leader one who goes to the people regardless of weather he stands a chance of winning or not.

Read the two above your comment!
Edwards will endorse Hillary.
Neither of the Democrates are Patriot they are socialist! They believe in government control of the people.
I’m from Cape Coral, Florida, which has experienced a series of economic blows, one right after another, since the time of Hurricane Charley. We had City Council elections earlier this year in which 5 Council seats were up for grabs, with an unprecedented 22 candidates running for office and 6 charter amendments on the General Election ballot. The issues were trust in government, accountability to the voters — both fiscal and otherwise, and distrust of special interest groups. The local media went all-out in their efforts to educate the voters; I personally spent weeks assembling an online election guide in a newspaper reader’s forum with links to all the news and information sources to help busy people get ready for the vote. There were umpteen forums and debates.
The result was a real sea change in the backgrounds and types of candidates elected. The candidates with the biggest endorsements and donations DID NOT WIN.
How this matter of endorsements plays out on the national scene could be interesting. I would suggest that John Edwards hold off endorsing for now.
In the presidential race, voters in my area (Southwest Florida) are listing substance, details of platforms, values, and character as the most important qualities they are considering for their vote. It’s too bad that the Dems were unable to campaign here, because Floridians would have put them through their paces for certain. They want answers to the tough questions, and sooner rather than later. As a registered Independent, I’m all for that.
But it’s also disquieting to see the level of invective that has been hurled at the candidates of both parties by the media and by letter-writers and online posters. Sure, the voters need to take a real hard look at all the candidates before deciding who to vote for. (And so do the Superdelegates, like John Edwards; he also has a tough decision to make as to whether to release his regular delegates to another candidate.) But things are getting pretty far over the top right now. Where are we headed with that?
– Has “Horserace Politics” — the handicapping of electability — become more important than the choosing of good leaders?
– Have the campaigns now traded openly-negative TV and radio attack ads for a more subterranean program of Internet attacks by their supporters? It’s just as ugly either way, IMO.
– It does look as though the more substantive the candidate, the harder a time that person gets from the media and voters. Look, what can it cost to at least listen to a candidate’s ideas, especially if those ideas are getting good marks from policy wonks? We’ve got real problems in this country, and we need all the help we can get, from whatever source it may come. Or do the voters (and media pundits) NOT REALLY WANT change???
– If all the candidates are regarded with such hatred and distrust, then will the eventual winner be able to govern effectively? And if everyone is eliminated because they have some kind of negatives in their resumes, who will be left to run the White House next year — the janitor? The head chef? How about the gardener?
Get real!
All I know is that I need a good job. Find me a way to get that, and come up with a workable plan to successfully end the war in Iraq that is draining our economy, and you’ll get my vote — Democrat, Republican, or Green Martian for that matter. Rock star celebrity, campaign rhetoric, and grandiosity matter to me not one whit.

Obama all the way!
FOR ANTHONY AND THE REST OF YOU WHO DO NOT UNDERSTAND CULTURE. WHEN A CHILD IS BORN TO A WHITE MOTHER AND A BLACK FATHER OR VICE-VERSA, THAT CHILD IS CONSIDERED BLACK. SO WHEN MICHELLE COMMENTED ON BARACK BEING THE FIRST “BLACK PRESIDENT” SHE ANSWERED CORRECTLY…. ANTHONY YOU ARE RIGHT, YOU ARE ENTITLED TO YOUR OWN OPINION. THANK GOD ITS “YOUR” OPINION, AND NOT THE WORLDS… YOU STILL NEED TO RESEARCH ALL THE ISSUES, BEFORE YOU COMMENT… AND YES, I HAVE SEEN BOTH OBAMA AND HILLARY, AND I STUDY ALL THE ISSUES. I LIKE TO BE INFORMED, BEFORE I MAKE COMMENTS.. IN WHICH MOST OF YOU ARE NOT… LIKE THAT WOMAN WHO SAID, HE REFUSED THE BIBLE AND USED THE KORAN TO SWEAR IN.. SHE IS JUST REPEATING WHAT SHE HEARD.. SHE IS LAZY AND MISINFORMED… MAYBE THE TWO OF YOU CAN GET TOGETHER AND RESEARCH THE CANDIDATES FIRST BEFORE COMMENTING.
About a 150 years ago I wrote a manifesto.
It’s obvious to me, your two “Democrat” candidates have read and embraced it. Fortunately, most of you Americans have not, and are hypnotized by the simple words uttered by your two “Democrat” candidates.
The irony is, if one of your two “Democrat” candidates are elected, your country will soon transition to the type of government I predicted would rise from a capitalist society.
While you Americans may have defeated communism militarily during the end of the last century, I get the last laugh from the grave, because you are about to elect my intellectual offspring into office.
You arrogant, uneducated, lazy Americans are so easily fooled.
Obama has divided the Democratic party (maybe unintentionally but he’s done it none the less). The Democrats are split and John McCain is well on his way to the White House. I’ll be voting for McCain if Obama is the Democratic nominee and I think many of the Obama followers will vote for McCain if Hillary is the Democratic nominee. The two party system is outdated and ridiculous as is this election - caucuses where Iowa college voters were getting in with outdated college IDs - and that’s just one of many incidents. Why can’t we have a viable independent candidate run, have real change and get rid of this horrid political system where people vote based on how well a candidate speaks or on their race/gender rather than on the issues?
Several of you have stated that Edwards, in essence, should hold out for the best offer - i.e. a VP nod. Neither Hillary nor Barack are going to give him a VP spot. Kerry tried it, and the “son of the South” didn’t deliver one thing. He was a dud once he dropped out of the Presidential Race. The same can be assumed will happen again.
As for whom the republicans would like to have win, there is no question, Hillary. Regardless of who wins the Dem. nomination, they are going to win in NY and CA and MA and the other states that are as blue as they come. The question is, who can pull off a win in the southern ex-Dixiecrat states. The answer is plainly Obama. Look at Virginia tonight. Barack will take it with a 20 point lead. Look at the exit polls, and you will see record turn out of first time voters. Whether it is the race card, or the JFK exhuberance, or simply the “I hate W” vote that he is getting, he’s getting it in record numbers.
McCain would love to run against Mrs. Whitewater. She claims that she can stand up to the assualt of the Rep. party. Somehow, I am not won over by her, “I am a used punching bag. Here, hit me again” monologue. If she really thinks that the Clinton bashers who unleashed a Kenneth Star haven’t come up with anything new, she’s crazy. They are salivating with the opportunity to bring down the little darling of the Democratic Power structure.
Obama doesn’t have the record that most Senators have in terms of experience, and that is a huge asset when trying to dodge the negative campaign ads.
So, back to the question of Edward’s endorsement. He should not hold out until the TX and OH votes. He should put his cahones on the line and pick one. I think his followers are no longer paying attention, so its a matter of delegates. He should look at the strength of the candidate to beat McCain, and give his votes to the stronger campaign. And in this case, the winner would have to be the Obama camp.
I truley wish John Edwards had gotten the respect and noteriety while campaining as he seems to be getting nowl. Everyone wants to hear what he has to say.
I honestly never would suspect John Edwards to throw his support to Hillary. It would be so far out of what he stands for. She is a politician through and through. She does not answer direct questions especially those she knows have unfavorable answers. She hs never been one of the little people, she has never had to struggle to raise a family and therefore can never truley understand.
Obama and Edwards 08 is what I look forward to.
I agree that an Edwards endorsement will mean alot to either candidate but I disagree that he is torn over who to support - I believe that he is just waiting for Obama to grab the lead in delegates then he will endorse him. There are any number of reasons for this but here are two that I think are driving him.
First - Edwards is not a fan of the Clinton machine. He and John Kerry had their own problems with this machine in 2004 and I think that he still feels like he was given a raw deal in ‘04 due to them.
Second - Edwards is also an ambitious man and is also going to wait for the best offer from the candidates. I know that many think he wants the AG job but I also think that he would accept the VP on an Obama ticket - remember Hillary needs Obama if she is the nominee - he doesn’t need her!
This could be hard to swallow since it is perceived the John Edwards could help either Clinton or Obama. The fact of the matter is Edwards is only looking out for himself. Why do I say this? As a total independent (I don’t even live in the US) I’ll give a truly unbiased opinion.
I watched the debates just after Iowa when it seemed that Obama could run away with the race. Edwards quickly jumped on Obama’s band-wagon, an effect caused undecided voters to side with Clinton in NH. As the backlash materialized in the following weeks, he slowly went back to the center and tried to play match referee.
I bet my next paycheck he will wait until he is confident enough that one of the remaining candidates sees the finish line, and he will endorse in his eyes ‘the winner’. What’s his angle? VP of course!
I hope the American people can see through this and vote for either Clinton or Obama on their current merits, and not on the endorsement of another self centered politician. Just my two cents from far away.
PLEASE READ THE REAL FACTS ABOUT OBAMA-

Yep, vote dem. You want more taxes, more jobs to leave the country, more terrorist attacks, more Socialism. Becareful dems. you might get what you asked for.
Change? Define it.
Hope? Doesn’t pay the bills.
I see Russia is up to their tricks again.
Guess I’ll worry about the safety of this country and the stock market instead of some ones religion or color.

Maybe you should look more closely to your source of this propaganda you continue to post links to. Maybe what you should tell people is to click on the picture of your source in this link to find out how reliable he really is.

Derogatorily known as “Pinch”, The New York Times Publisher, Arthur Sulzberger Jr., achieved his lofty position the old fashioned way, he was born into the family that has controlled the Gray Lady since 1896.
Pinch was a long-haired, 1960s radical and an anti-war activist. He had been vehemently opposed to the Vietnam War. He was arrested more than once at protest rallies. He famously declared that in a confrontation between an American and a North Vietnamese soldier he’d want to see the American get shot. His own father, “Punch,” who was then the Times’ publisher, considered his son’s words treasonous.
Sulzberger is part of a generation of reporters who understand their work in a fundamentally different way than reporters before them. For these reporters, the meaningful aspect of their work is the chance that it gives them to “make a difference” in the world. These reporters do not hold as their ideal the relatively modest goal of facilitating public debate. For these reporters, the goal is nothing less than bringing about progressive social change and Pinch has made a deliberate decision to make the Times a vehicle for social change.
In spite of his family’s nepotism, Sulzberger ironically believed that the corporate culture was inbred and in need of more diversity — more women, more minorities and more gays. Upon his ascendancy, Pinch took each of the gay reporters to lunch, asking them what it was like to be gay at the Times. These tête-à-têtes resulted in Sulzberger setting up a pro-gay newsroom at the Times. According to former ombudsman Dan Okrent, the Times had an unofficial but enforced policy of not referring to nor naming any studies that could be critical of gays or gay rights.
In his book, “Coloring the News: How Crusading for Diversity Has Corrupted American Journalism,” William McGowan shows how Sulzberger’s diversity campaign destroyed the Times as a newspaper, if not as a political force, leading to the non-reporting or misreporting of stories big and small.
Sulzberger’s diversity agenda led to the massive journalism fraud perpetrated by Jayson Blair, the Times’ journalist who got caught embellishing, exaggerating, and outright lying in print. Times’ Executive Editor, Howell Raines, defending his paper to the Washington Post, said, “Frankly, no newspaper in the world is set up to monitor for cheats and fabricators.” Raines was fired for his loyalty by Sulzberger.
Under the leadership of Sulzberger, the Times, never lets facts get in the way of its agenda and has become the propaganda arm of al Qaeda and the Democratic National Committee (DNC). Recently Sulzberger’s Times has danced around treason, with the release of a top secret National Security Agency (NSA) program, in December 2005. The disclosure of the NSA’s electronic surveillance program was timed to promote the release of Time reporter, James Risen’s book on the government’s secret anti-terrorism operations, “State of War” and to influence the Congressional vote on the extension of the Patriot Act.
This latest escapade is a violation of National Security laws and rules. Senator Mitch McConnell told Fox News Sunday, “We’re already talking about this entirely too much out in public as a result of these leaks and the New York Times continuing to write about it - and it’s endangering our efforts to make Americans more secure.”
Michael Barone observed the Times didn’t bother telling its readers that the electronic surveillance practice is far from new and is entirely legal. Instead, the unspoken subtext of the story was that this was likely an illegal and certainly a very scary invasion of Americans’ rights.
Sulzberger’s Times, the leading cheerleader for the Valerie Plame/Joe Wilson non-story, earnestly wished for the heads of Karl Rove and Vice President Cheney for leaking the name of Plame, a covert CIA operative. It was immaterial to the Times that Plame was neither covert nor an operative and many people in Washington knew that Plame worked as a weapons of mass destruction analyst at the CIA, including Plame’s five year-old son, who told everyone within earshot that, “My daddy’s famous, my mommy’s a secret spy,” while Plame, her lying husband, Joe Wilson and the twins waited to board their plane on the way to their winter vacation.
However, the Times and Sulzberger may now be hoist by their own petard. They screamed so loud and so often for prosecutions in the Plame affair that they now can’t defend themselves in the NSA matter. Sulzberger is oddly quiet about his treasonous actions and has ignored requests from the Times’ Public Editor, Byron Calame to explain his decision to release the NSA story.
Calame called the newspaper’s explanation of its decision to hold for over a year its major scoop on the National Security Agency’s domestic “woefully inadequate.”
He also charged Executive Editor Bill Keller and Sulzberger with “stonewalling” his attempts to get the readers more information, “despite the paper’s repeated pledges of greater transparency.” He wrote that for the first time since he became public editor last year, those two men “have declined to respond to my requests for information about news-related decision-making.”
Calame added that he had e-mailed a list of 28 questions to Keller on December 19th, and got no response. He also sent the same questions to Sulzberger Jr., with the same result.
I really think he should back Obama
But he needs to get on the Obama train
and fast for after tonight The Obama
Express wont stop again tell he is
President Obama. The media will get on before the night is over
and leave Hillary at the station they can’t wait for a maybe win
by her in Texas or Ohio.
Edwards
knows that this deal is about to wrap up.
He needed to get on the train last week.
I like Edwards but what I don’t like is games
If you want to back someone just do it.
Is that you Rush? Ann Coulter, are you hear too? Wow! What a diverse collection of opinions. For those who want to insult or demean the Democratic canidates, please look at our current President…you elected him and his failed policies and failed war. They are the result of your choice, America is in the current sad state due, inpart to you.
I backed Edwards and hope he aligns with Hillary. This election is too important to be a popularity contest to see which will make history first, a woman or a black. IMO, Hillary has proven she can make a difference. Obama is a wonderful speaker, but we need more then a pep rally.
Neither candidate stakes up to John so I say endorse neither one.
Edwards Democrat…
So NOW the media pays attention to John Edwards! Shame on you. Shame on all of you! I hope he sits back, endorses no one, and lets Clinton and Obama slug the heck out of each other.
John Edwards was the one.
It’s America’s loss and my heartbreak.
NAN, President McCain will thank idiots like you and your husband! Are you MAD? Will you sleep at night after voting a WAR MONGER into office? Our men and women will be dying in the desert for years to come under an McCain administration! McCain doesn’t want to be president, he wants to be COMMANDER IN CHIEF!!! Don’t you get that?
I say Edwards should stay out of it. Let em sweat. He won’t be a VP candidate, he already was and lost. I liked him for Prez but now don’t know what to do. I wont be voting for a Repug, but I don’t really like Hil or Obama. I just hope Edwards keeps quiet.
Who the “H” does Johnny boy think he is, making Obillary come to Chapel Hill to kiss the brass ring?
If he was going to endorse Hillary, he should have done it before the Potomac primaries, she certainly needed the lift.
If he endorses Hillary after another Obama sweep, it may be too late. He could certainly get this thing over sooner by endorsing Obama. We need a clear front runner now.
His blue-collar base is more suitable to Hillary, who is getting more middle class voters than Obama.
if he endorses Obama, then he has no true convictions as he once claimed.
He’s turned out to be a real jackass, and I’ve lost all respect for him.
I believe John Edward’s will endorse Barrack, but only for shallow, opportunist reasons. Hillary would be my choice for him as she really stands for something and is more than an inspiring speaker. Hillary would be the best thoughtful choice for anyone with a bite of intellectual depth.
Obama = six six six!
Super delegates are the rule, Hillary did not invent the rule she is just playing by the rule.
Obama’s people want to throw out the super delegates because they are not for him.
But,,, He wants to follow the rule about not seating the Floriday & Michigan delegates because that is the rule.
So,,, use the rules you benefit from & throw out the rules you don’t.
He says he is for change but sounds like politics as usual to me.
I think Obama is a wonderful public speaker, this is only part of the job description for president.
In 8 years after he has had time to mature & gain more experiance he might make a good president, right now he will hurt our country. I have never voted for a Republican but if he is the nominee I will vote for Ron Paul as a protest.
Please keep these facts in mind as you consider whether Floridians votes should be counted:
The Florida Democratic primary election ballot had all democratic candidates listed.
Florida Dems have been disenfranchised, through no fault of their own
HB537 was written by a Florida Republican to change Florida’s primary date.
A state legislature has interfered with it’s constituents National voting rights.
The Florida Democratic Party did NOT change this date, the legislature did.
The Florida legislature has an overwhelming Republican majority.
The House of Representatives in Florida have 41 Democrats; 71 Republicans.
The Senate in Florida have 14 Democrats; 26 Republicans
The state of Florida has a Republican Governor.
The citizens of the state of Florida did NOT vote on this date change.
HB537 was passed in May 2007 & legislatively changed the Florida primary date.
This date was, and still is, unalterable by the Florida Democrats.
If Edwards is to maintain any credibility from his failed 2008 election campaign, he must stand by his original convictions and back Obama. Throughout his campaign, Edwards positioned himself as a liberal progressive reformer. If he is to side with Clinton, he will in many ways undermine the supporters he gained over the past months (particularly in Iowa), and simultaneously come across as an opportunist. Edwards challenged conventional paradigms during his campaign by aggressively speaking out against the impact of lobbyists in Washington. To then side with a candidate who has founded her wealth on such forces would be hypocritical and artificial. With McCain looming as the likely opposition nominee, it is vital that Edwards side with Obama’s politics of change so as to unite against conventional Republican “Americanism”.
I SO hope and pray that he endorses Obama! AMEN!
Fallen Angel,
Edwards campaigned as the blue-collar champion, those folks are all now voting for Hillary. Obama is getting help from elitist whites, the very demographic Edwards has sued in court for years.
It seems odd he would endorse Obama. Very odd, and also his healtcare plan more closely mirrored Hillary’s.
Endorsements don’t mean jack anyway, Ted Kennedy and John Kerry sure flopped for Hillary in Mass. Several Pew center studies say endorsements don’t mean $h1t.
If the Democrats want to win, he needs to sign on with Obama. He would add experience to the campaign and make Obama more electable. Hillary just has too much baggage for me, and as an independent I would be hard pressed to vote for her over McCain, no matter who she runs with. Now, an Obama-Edwards ticket would get my vote right away, and the vote of a lot of other Independents as well.
I am hoping John Edwards supports Obama. I really like John and think he can work closely with Obama in the white house. I have not been much of a fan of politics. I am excited to cast my vote in November. I truly feel that Obama is the one, I think he can bring this country together. If you could hear and see the excitement people have for Obama you would truly understand he is now bringing whites, blacks and Hispanics together. We are no longer thinking about our differences but we are now talking about “Yes we Can” and moving past not liking each other becase we are different. I am now having conversations with people I thought I did not like based off of race/culture. I like what Obama and Edwards represent. Clinton sounds so drained in her speeches and boring. She sounds like a tape recorder and I think it’s ego and not passion. I think Bill Clinton was a great president in the 90’s but we are now ready for a fresh start. We all realize this won’t be easy due to the mess our country is now facing. I feel proud to be an American and living in the United States when Obama speaks…he is positive and refreshing. I now feel there is hope. I am going to spread the word, it’s contagious. It does not matter if he’s black, white, male or female…it’s simply what he represents and all the possiblities. When he speaks, I feel he is speaking to the American people, My mother, Husband, sister, niece, co-workers, grandma’s, grandpa’s…Poor, Middle class, Rich, and Washington…in other words all of us. My friend has a sister that works for Mccain and her sister has now changed her mind and is voting for Obama..If we had all voted when it was time in AZ trust me, he would have won. I am a woman and I am prould a woman is running for president but cannot vote for her based on gender/sex/crede/or color. I have to follow my heart. Clinton has shown a weakness already by crying and at times dirty politics. When I got my first job, I had little experience and alot of HOPE that I would
