Obama to Republicans: “Let ‘em bring it on.”

As Barack Obama does better along the road to the Democratic nomination, he is sounding like a more confident candidate. That is to say he has begun to set his sights less on Hillary Clinton while focusing more on John McCain.

Today Obama told some 11,000 Marylanders at a Baltimore arena that he could handle the “Republican Attack Machine,” as dubbed by Clinton. “I have to explain to people, I’m skinny, but I’m tough,” he said to thunderous applause and laughter. “I’m wiry. Don’t mess with me! Let ‘em bring it on,” he said, growing more self assured as the crowd encouraged him. “Who they got? John McCain?”

The crowd was hooting at this point, but Obama quickly qualified himself. “Listen, listen - I respect John McCain for his half century of service to this country. He is, he is a genuine war hero and we need to honor him for that. He has gone through things most of us cannot imagine. He deserves applause. He deserves our respect,” he said, politely acknowledging McCain’s service.

And then he unloaded. “But, he is on the wrong side of history right now. He wants to perpetuate the Bush economic agenda that has failed working Americans. We don’t need more of that. He wants to perpetuate Bush’s foreign policy, talking about a hundred-year war in Iraq. We don’t need more of that. I am happy to have a debate with John McCain because we are the party of tomorrow; he is the party of yesterday. He’s the past; we’re the future. That’s an argument I want to have with the Republican Party,” he said forcefully.

The Obama equation is a complicated one. On one hand, he must convince Democrats he is tough enough to take on the Republicans, while at the same time, not disenfranchising the Republicans (or “Obamacans,” as he calls them) and Independents he seeks to win over.

So after Obama declared his intent to have an argument with the Republican Party, he ended on a sweet note. “Not to mention, I want to attract some Republicans into the fold,” he said. “We’re gonna build a coalition, a working majority to provide health care for everybody, and schools for kids, and college scholarships. That’s how you win an election. Not by turning people off, but by bringing ‘em in. Not by being angry all the time, but by being hopeful.”

But for now, at least, it still seems to be a delicate balancing act for the candidate.

Go for it Barrack. I am sure McCain will have no answer for you. What will you say then? And by the way Mike Huckabee agrees with you about the economy. He wants to REALLY fix it like he did in Arkansas, not just with hot air from DC.

Please support Barack Obama for President in 2008.

Choose hope over fear, and unity over dvision.

Choose to turn the page on partisan bickering and the politics of division.

Choose the one candidate who can unite us and move us forward.

What is Obama’s view on Israel and the US and Jews?

king of smear, the truth always hurts

from Haaretz:

Barack Obama’s big speech on Israel is now over, and as expected, the candidate made no secret of his support and dedication to the special relationship between the U.S. and Israel. “My view is that the United States’ special relationship with Israel obligates us to be helpful to them in the search for credible partners with whom they can make peace, while also supporting Israel in defending itself against enemies sworn to its destruction,” were Obama’s words to Haaretz last week. Today, he sounded as strong as Clinton, as supportive as Bush, as friendly as Giuliani. At least rhetorically, Obama passed any test anyone might have wanted him to pass. So, he is pro-Israel. Period.

King of Smear, don’t be an idiot. If you watched a video excerpt of the speech obn BarackObamaDotCom, you’d know that it was meant in humor, sarcastic self-deprecating humor. His was intending to draw some light hearted laughs from his audience by mocking his own skinniness. The moment was quite endearing, really.

I’m a Republican but would seriously consider Obama in the general election, partly because he’s more my generation.

i am glad for the king of smears comment because it brought me back to reality that no matter how far we have come this country is not ready for Obama unfortunately.

i was hoping maybe in my lifetime but i truly feel racism is just too deeply ingrained in our heritage,
no matter what happens somehow things always just have to boil down to race.

Comment by Dick

There are more important issues to talk about here in US.. but views on Israel or Jews?? !! about what?? I think infusing favoritism on one race over the other is one-sidedness, partisanship and prejudice and that is a politics of the past. What i know Obama is a uniter not a divider.

Who is Obama? Noone really knows. Why? Because if you ask questions about his past and his childhood, it is shut up and they start yelling racism. His Mom is now the little girl from Kansas. This is nonsense. This man is not running for Student Council President at the local highschool, he is running for President of the United States. We are entitled to know! And he gives no answers except the ones he wants too. I cannot imagine anyone risking our future and our countrys future on this man.

Iwatch hannity and Colmes today and when the people were ask the difference in obama@clinton the things that were brought out were outragous .Most people said that Obama had substance but Hillary was more able to tell you what she could do andwhat shehad done in the past but they were voting for Barack Obama. well i would like to take a moment to say that all you people out there that think voting for the next President is some kind of game had better think real hard because once this election is over who ever becomes the next president is going to be the person that is going to go into office with a large debt that we owe and a war that you younger generation will fight in if you choose wrong .you will one day have children off your own and you will need healthcare and good schools. Already you have Grandparents and maybe parents that are strug gling to make ends meet . So go out and for for your choice but think and listen to what they can convince you they can and will be able to do for your future . all this excitement will be over and after the election is over and the media goes you will again be back where you were before and if you havent chosen what is right for this country you will no longer have a choice in the matter. it is yous choice use it wisely

Hillary claims to be a better manager than Obama. Well, I have to admit that she has distinguished herself in that regard. She managed her campaign into the ground so fast that 80% of her supporters haven’t even figured it out yet! So what can the last six months add to her much touted 35 years of experience? How about operational, organizational and now financial mismanagement of her campaign. Inspired with confidence yet?

as for the news media you to some of you need to realize that what you say about the canidates is what some people base their vote on and this is a very very serious matter and your rating should come in a distant second. this is our country we are talking about .

Wyden, Obama Introduce “Credit Card Safety Star Act of 2007”
Wednesday, December 5, 2007
Printable FormatFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Contact: Jennifer Hoelzer (Wyden) or Amy Brundage (Obama)

5-Star Safety Rating System Brings Transparency to Credit Card Agreements

Washington, D.C. – Working to give consumers the tools to make informed choices about complex credit card agreements, U.S. Senators Ron Wyden (D-OR) and Barack Obama (D-IL) today introduced the “Credit Card Safety Star Act of 2007.” The legislation creates a five-star safety rating system for credit cards in order to increase the transparency of credit card agreements and encourage issuers to abandon abusive practices by offering consumers fair terms they can understand.

“This legislation will help people understand if they can expect their card issuer to treat them fairly, or kick them when they are down,” said Wyden. “With the financial future of so many Americans dependent upon unreadable jargon in credit card documents, arming consumers with usable information is more critical than ever.”

“Consumers need some way to know which credit cards are safe and which ones are most likely to get them into financial trouble with fees, penalties, and charges,” Senator Obama said. “A Safety Star system is an innovative approach to require credit card companies to increase transparency and hold them accountable for any hidden charges or changes. This bill will give consumers a powerful tool to protect themselves, while giving credit card companies an incentive to improve their practices.”

Much like the five-star crash test rating system for new cars, the “Credit Card Safety Star Act of 2007” will give consumers a window into the safety of their credit cards. Under the legislation, every credit card, billing statement, agreement, application, and piece of marketing material will be required to carry the credit card’s safety star rating, which will range anywhere from one to five stars, with five stars representing the safest cards. …..

All u Obama zombies; can u please tell me one of Hussein’s accomplishment?. I’m thinking of voting for Hussein but I can’t seem to find any accomplishment tied to him except that “he’s a great speaker”; but of course we all know that’s an attribute. By the way I’ve been told by a lot of people that I inspire people with my writing; do u guys and dolls think I could be considered as Hussein’s running mate; find below my “accomplishments”

I inspire people especially low esteemed Americans with my writing skills
I was once a community organizer for a neighborhood that had lost jobs in a steel mill
I was a member of the Jalopy State senate who has always played it safe by voting present
I was elected into the US Senate to represent Jalopy state and the next year I offered myself for election as President of the US without having sponsored or cosponsored any serious legislation that would “CHANGE” the lives of my “fellow Americans”
I campaigned merely on rhetoric, my campaign theme was “CHANGE IS COMING TO AMERICA”; my friends in the liberal press have given me a free ride based on my race. Any serious criticism to my campaign is stage managed by my liberal press friends as an attack on my race.
I am surrounded by advisers from Bill Clinton administration and also compared myself to JFK despite the fact that “this election is about the future not the past”
I am a christian with the middle name Hussein or maybe I’m a muslim; I’m not too sure anymore. I’m sure we can overlook that small fact after all we need CHANGE.

I have and will stand by Hillary Clinton’s side in support and acknowledgment that she will be the much needed qualified candidate that will bring out positive change, due to her skills and experirence of every sector of the government. I know she will have them work for the people of the United States, the middle working class, where it is needed much.

While Obama talks about ‘Hope’ and change, Hillary will bring results as soon as her first weeks in office, to the economy, to national security, to education and to energy independence that work with the environment and this along with health care. I’m excited about health care, cause I’ve never had it. I need checkups due to early deaths of cancer, heart disease and liver problems in my family background. Anways, enough about me….Go Hillary!!!!

These Obama haters in here are exactly why you should have to pass an IQ or apptitude test before you’re allowed to vote. You really should not rely on the media for your info, do your own research then you can find out the truth. If Obama wins are you going to blame it on the media? It’s your responsibility to learn about who you support. Take it more seriously than spreading lies and rumors about any candidate. Vote for change. Hillary keeps referring to “when her husband was in office”, Then she says she wants real change. I remember when her husband was in office, he totally disrespected the honor of living on Pennsylvannia Ave. And was not even smart enough not to get busted. Please let us move foward.
You got my family’s vote. Go Obama 08!!!!!!!!

johnandjoe unfortunately that will never happen, honestly can u think of any news media organization; the major networks, news commentator, major newspaper all of both political leaning that has carried a thorough and objective critical assessment of Hussein Obama’s candidacy? Could it be that we now have a perfect candidate in this man? or could the answer be that the the so called mainstream media has an agenda, they no longer report news, they shape opinions. So my friend, unfortunately the rights guaranteed to the media in the constitution to help protect democracy is in my opinion going to tear it down, ‘cos when the citizens of this great country can no longer hear an unbiased news without spin even when it involves the election for the highest office in the land, then we at the beginning of a crisis.

Hey Southern Girl……..
READ WHAT OTHERS HAVE TO SAY

NEWSWEEK: “Dueling chain e-mails claim he’s a radical Muslim or a ‘racist’ Christian. Both can’t be right. We find both are false. If these two nasty e-mail messages are any indication, the 2008 presidential campaign is becoming a very dirty one. One claims that Obama is ‘certainly a racist’ by virtue of belonging to Chicago’s Trinity United Church of Christ, which it says ‘will accept only black parishioners’ and espouses a commitment to Africa. Actually, a white theology professor says he’s been ‘welcomed enthusiastically’ at the church, as have other non-blacks. Another e-mail claims that Obama ‘is a Muslim,’ attended a ‘Wahabi’ school in Indonesia, took his Senate oath on the Koran, refuses to recite the Pledge of Allegiance and is part of an Islamic plot to take over the U.S. Each of these statements is false. These false appeals to bigotry and fear remind us of the infamous whispering campaign of eight years ago, when anonymous messages just before the South Carolina primary falsely accused Republican candidate John McCain of fathering an illegitimate child by a black woman.” READ MORE HERE

THE UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST: “‘Trinity UCC is rooted in and proud of its Afrocentric heritage,’ [Rev. John H. Thomas, the UCC's general minister and president] said. ‘This is no different than the hundreds of UCC churches from the German Evangelical and Reformed stream that continue to own and celebrate their German heritage, insisting on annual sausage and sauerkraut dinners and singing Stille Nacht on Christmas Eve. Recognizing and celebrating our distinctive racial-ethnic heritages, cultures, languages and customs are what make us unique as a united and uniting denomination.’ While Trinity UCC is predominately African American, it does include and welcome non-Black members. The Rev. Jane Fisler-Hoffman, Illinois Conference Minister, who is white, has been a member of the congregation for years.” READ MORE HERE

PROMINENT JEWISH LEADERS: “As leaders of the Jewish community, none of whose organizations will endorse or oppose any candidate for President, we feel compelled to speak out against certain rhetoric and tactics in the current campaign that we find particularly abhorrent. Of particular concern, over the past several weeks, many in our community have received hateful emails that use falsehood and innuendo to mischaracterize Senator Barack Obama’s religious beliefs and who he is as a person. These tactics attempt to drive a wedge between our community and a presidential candidate based on despicable and false attacks and innuendo based on religion. We reject these efforts to manipulate members of our community into supporting or opposing candidates.” READ MORE HERE

JEWISH U.S. SENATORS: “Over the past several weeks, many in the Jewish community have received hateful emails that use falsehood and innuendo about Senator Barack Obama’s religion and attack him personally. As Jewish United States Senators who have not endorsed a candidate for the Democratic nomination, we condemn these scurrilous attacks. We find it particularly abhorrent that these attacks arc apparently being sent specifically to the Jewish Community. Jews, who have historically been the target of such attacks, should be the first to reject these tactics. We won’t dignify these falsehoods by repeating them in order to refute them. Instead, we will express our outrage at these tactics, which are being used to demonize a good and decent man and our friend and colleague. Attempting to manipulate voters into supporting or opposing one candidate or another based on despicable and fictitious attacks is disgraceful. These false and malicious attacks should not be part of our political discourse.

Washington Post Awarded “The Scoundrel” Who Put The Obama/Pledge Of Allegiance Email Into Circulation “Four Pinocchios” On Its Fact Checking Scale, Which Classifies The Attack As A “Whopper.” “Anonymous attacks by e-mail are, or at least should be, un-American. This particular one was also wrong on the facts: the ceremony in question had nothing to do with the pledge of the allegiance. We award the scoundrel who put the e-mail into circulation four Pinocchios.” [Washington Post, 11/2/07]

Email Made False Claims About The Content Of A Time Article. “Oddly, the accurate caption from Time is included in the chain e-mail. But someone has added that “the article said” Obama refused to say the pledge and would not put his hand on his heart. There is no such article on the Time Web site and searches of the Web and newspaper-magazine databases could only find blog postings that repeat the claim from the e-mail. It’s unclear where the allegation originated.” [St. Petersburg Times, 11/9/07]

“Scurrilous.” “A scurrilous new e-mail is circulating about Barack Obama.” [Slate, 11/8/07]

“Addressed And Debunked.” “Today, the Obama campaign explained that the photo was taken not during the pledge of allegiance but during the star spangled banner. Said Obama, “I was taught by my grandfather that you put your hand over your heart during the pledge, but during the Star Spangled Banner, you sing!” Of course, it doesn’t really matter that Obama has addressed and debunked the e-mail because it’s going to keep circulating.” [The Nation, 11/8/07]

“False.” “(Again, the above email is false. It is printed here for information purposes and should not be construed as fact.)” [Iowa Independent, 11/8/07]

OBAMA SAID ONE SHOWS PATRIOTISM BY HOW ONE TREATS FELLOW AMERICANS AND VETERANS…
Obama Had Not Worn A Flag Pin For Years, Said Patriotism Resided In The Heart And Not The Lapel. The Chicago Tribune reported, “His campaign, sensing the issue was dominating campaign news, had earlier made clear he had not worn such a pin for years. ‘I’m less concerned about what you are wearing on your lapel than what’s in your heart,’ he said under a county fairgrounds pavilion here, a giant American flag draped behind him. ‘You show your patriotism by how you treat your fellow Americans, especially those ones who served.’ He suggested that some politicians who wear such pins act in disingenuous ways. ‘After a while, you know, you start noticing people wearing a lapel pin, but not acting very patriotic, not voting to provide veterans with the resources that they need,’ he said.” [Chicago Tribune, 10/5/07]

…A SENTIMENT ECHOED BY MILITARY BRASS AND THE DES MOINES REGISTER
Danzig, McPeak, Gration: “Barack Obama Is A Patriot.” “‘Senator Obama’s attackers are peddling lies and smears because they disagree with his strong opposition to the war in Iraq and the rush to war in Iran,’ wrote Richard Danzig, secretary of the Navy under President Bill Clinton, and retired Gens. Merrill “Tony” McPeak and J. Scott Gration. ‘We have served this nation for decades, and we know a true patriot when we see one. Barack Obama is a patriot.’” [St. Petersburg Times, 11/9/07]

McPeak: Patriotism Is Hard Work; Pin Flap Is Business As Usual, Obama Wants To Turn The Page. When asked on a conference call about Obama no longer wearing an American flag pin, General Tony McPeak said, “‘This business about the lapel pin, I think the senator understands that patriotism is hard work…If you could just do it by placing a flag on your lapel, that would be pretty easy.’ McPeak then dismissed the flag flap as ‘petty symbolism.’ ‘This pin flap is kind of business as usual. Isn’t that the old politics, the gotcha politics,’ he said. ‘Barack stands for turning the page. Let’s do something substantial here.’” [Talking Points Memo, 10/5/07]

Des Moines Register: Obama Was Right About Wearing The Flag Pin And True Patriotism. The Des Moines Register wrote in an editorial, “When we searched eBay for “flag lapel pins,” the Web site returned more than 400 hits. With shipping as low as 60 cents, buyers can have a little nugget of patriotism delivered right to their doors. Following 9/11, these small pins could be found on nearly every politician. Over time, the novelty wore off, and people tucked the pins in drawers (or sold them online). Still, when a reporter in Iowa asked presidential candidate Barack Obama why he wasn’t wearing a pin, it turned into a national news story. The pin, Obama said, “became a substitute for I think true patriotism, which is speaking out on issues that are of importance to our national security. I decided I won’t wear that pin on my chest.” He rightly noted that some people wearing lapel pins don’t act very patriotic. Staff from other campaigns criticized him. One political analyst said the absence of the pin might hurt him politically. Reporters started asking other candidates about the whereabouts of their pins. Perhaps in an image-fixated world, a flag secured to one’s lapel speaks louder than words or actions. But Obama is right. It shouldn’t.”

For those who are posting and further dispersing the utterly false allegation that Barack Obama is a terrorist insurgent that despises the values of this country. Nothing could be further from the truth, and the people who write such horribleness are absolutely ignorant to any type of intelligent thinking.

I trust you all know what snopes.com is. It is a site that tells you the truth or invalidity of rumors being spread to the world. It backs up everything with research. Perhaps these people are just posting this because they are racist, or perhaps because they want another candidate to win, or maybe they are just that stupid.

However, Barack Obama is a faithful Christian and a fervent patriot to the United States of America.

I am glad Sen. Barack Hussein Obama, is doing well in the campaign. Do you know how I know he is doing well in the campaign? I see you flaming from the ears. Yes his middle name is Hussein. Your point?

Yes, his Father was a Christian who converted to Muslim and that’s where it ends.

Senator Barack Obama was raised by his maternal grandparents who were Christians. He has attended the same church for over 16 years.

I would guarantee you tell yourself you’re a Christian.

There is no doubt that if any of these nonfactual bigoted toned accusations had any basis, Fox News would have reported it. They have dug deep into his kindergarten years and found him to be clean.

Here is the 9th Commandment: KJV, Exodus 20:16
THOU SHALT NOT BEAR FALSE WITNESS AGAINST THY NEIGHBOUR.

Assuming his father was the son of Lucifer, here is the text that explains it.

KJV, Ezekiel 18:19-20

“Yet say ye, Why? doth not the son bear the iniquity of the father? When the son hath done that which is lawful and right, and hath kept all my statutes, and hath done them, he shall surely live. The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him.”

And I say; why should they, better used in the General elections. U can go on kidding urself, the election is for the office of the President of the United States, the most powerful office in the world. The two political parties know what’s at stake, John McCain knows what’s at stake, even ur leader Hussein knows what’s at stake, I bet u his CHANGE slogan is out the window immediately gets the nomination and comes back to politics as usual. I believe we do have an inkling to this with this headline on FOXNEWS.COM: Obama to Republicans: “Let ‘em bring it on.” What happened to, “There is no blue states or red states, there is the United States of America”. U might be someone who allows himself to be fooled into thinking that good speeches tailored to political consultants’ time tested themes can translate into effecting concrete change in Washington, fortunately I’m not.

Comment by Mac Stevens (Work)

If you support Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, John McCain, or Mike Huckabee, then you support income tax, which is theft of a barbaric nature. Republicans tend to spend it on war, Democrats on the poor. But who will stand up and oppose the spending so we can eliminate income tax?

Here’s how it works:

I drink beer all year, earn $0 —> I’m eligible for welfare.

I work 9-5 all year, earn $30,000, I pay $6,000 tax (approx.) —> IRS says I’m ok.

I work like a dog, earn $60,000, I pay $6,000 tax —> I go to jail.

Jail. Does anybody get this? Jail! And a fine! For what? For working. What’s this about affordable health care? You’re ready to send a hard worker to jail, caged up with diseased perverts, where he’s lucky if he gets out without catching AIDS. What about his health?

This is outrageously, butt-rapingly, wrong. This is such a gross case of biting the hand that feeds you. You’re talking about spending money that was taken at gun point.

What’s wrong with taxing a man in proportion to the service provided to him? What’s wrong with asking for help when you need it?

Look, I have read factual sources regarding his upbringings, and I have read both Obama’s books and that’s how I know that the bigoted toned accusations are false.

One game I enjoy playing is Chess. If you don’t already play chess, please learn it.

To those who scream “Hussein” at the top of their lungs as if they were warning us all of some impending doom, thank you. The louder you yell, the more insane you appear and the further you move to your polarized corner. The center then becomes larger as the great masses don’t wish to be polarized anymore and, finding their center, also find Barack Obama as their choice for President.

And if you’re screaming, “Who is Barack Obama?” Why not take a moment and read one of his books? He’s laid it out very clearly and in a very entertaining manner. If you’re still not convinced, go see him in person; he’s pretty much everywhere these days.

If you still don’t know who he is you can take a look at the massive media crush that has been upon him for the past 18 months and see what they’ve come up with. It’s not all flattering, no. One of the more attractive things about him, in my opinion, is not just that he’s human, but that he’s extremely comfortable in admitting it.

What you right wing conservatards need to realize is that listening to an invisible voice from the clouds is not going to help this country one bit. A bit of socialism is just what this country needs. You can cry and moan all you want, but WE WILL run things. We are already in your schools, we are already bending the minds of the youth to accept OUR WAY OF GOVERNMENT. There is nothing you can do about it. Even Wikipedia is contributing to this cause. In a few years you right wing invisible voice worshipping NASCAR driving beer drinking louts will have NO say in matters in this nation and we can move forward into a better tomorrow.

Hey PMC: You want to know about Obama’s childhood and youth? Why don’t you read his books - he tells you all about it in there and is very candid about his thoughts along the way. When he made his ethics disclosure for the campaign, the people who received it said it was unusually honest - like more honest and open and thorough in his disclosure than they usually see.

Oh yeah - and I can give you one sure fire prediction for February 21st. When the Democrats abroad votes come in they will be going to Obama in pretty big margins I would wager, patterns repeating like this around the world. I’ve already heard word that he took it in Spain, London and the Phillipines. He will take it all over the place, including the countries that are allies to America.

Now if that don’t slap ya up side the head to wake up and see that you have a tremendous candidate in Obama and you should darn well put him in the White House and start fixing your relationship with the rest of the world then what blimmin’ hope is there for America?

The world doesn’t want McCain or Clinton - they don’t want servings of the same old attitudes that have alienated America and made them resentful. They don’t want the same self-serving corruption and arrogant and ignorant attitudes harming EVERY other country. But if that’s what you wanna do, then I guess the rest of the world can go trade for oil in Euros and do a good trade with China.

JAY4OBAMA–

Seriously, you are sooo full of crap! Please tell us exactly what Obama’s qualifications are. Please give us at least 10 examples!!! Make sure they are REAL accomplishments also, not just the fact that he is a good speaker!

1. Diversity of upbringing - including bi-racial, living in Polynesian and Asian countries, exposure to various cultural and religious practices while being raised by a secular mother, thus allowing him to evaluate things without being culturally insensitive when interacting with other countries (such insensitivity harming diplomatic efforts) and not falling into ’stereotyping’ traps that make people look ignorant and arrogant.

2. Has already traveled extensively with the foreign committee, including visits to Russia and Iraq, among many others.

3. Correctly identified that other countries do not see negotiation only after ‘conditions are pre-met’ as America showing strength, but rather shows arrogance.

4. Demonstrated ability to get bills passed, such as ethics reform, and to get both Republicans and Democrats to come together to get bills past gridlocks (gridlock means NO issues are progressed).

5. Most often requested democrat to come and help in red states on issues, because of his ability to get people working together - as further evidenced by the high endorsement of democrats from red states.

6. Has been in a Senate position for 11 years, 8 at the state level, with demonstrated proficiency in constitutional law, as evidenced by lecturing on the subject but also serving as the President of the Harvard Law Review, coupled with years working as a community organizer which gave him hands on insight into the conditions of the poor and impact on communities due to sending jobs overseas.

7. Thoughtful policies that favor pragmatism over ideology as compared to some of the policies of other candidates (i.e. on healthcare,, immigration). Willing to take an unpopular stance if he thinks it is the right stance on a pragmatic level.

8. Sound judgment - correctly identified the issues and complications that would ensue from invading Iraq and also correctly identified that there was not sufficient cause for the invasion before it happened.

9. Not born into privilege but worked his way up with student loans and scholarships, bouncing back from a turbulent youth, demonstrating resilience and taking that experience, translating it into wisdom in order to make sounder evaluations about issues facing young people in America. An example to all American children, irrespective of ethnicity, that the American dream can be a reality.

10. Does not just talk about change but has demonstrated the ability to take a concept and make it an effective reality, as evidenced by his successful grassroots movement which has out raised any other campaign, funded by small donors - the American people - as opposed to the assumption that one cannot run a successful campaign without the organized financial backing of Corporations and Lobbyists.

Oh yeah - he has also shown good judgment by the fact that he put the right people together in the right way to work on his campaign. He has also shown that he engenders strong loyalty, cohesion and commitment from the people that have worked for him and has kept his team tight, unlike others who tend to ‘reshuffle’ people when things don’t go their way. That is part of being ‘right’ from the start and a testament to his people skills, which one would argue strongly are desirable in a leader.

Despite attacks and mis-truths and under-handed tactics from an establishment that has been supporting the interests of the Clinton campaign he has managed to come out stronger, while Clinton’s ill-advised statements, actions and tactics have continued to alienate Democrats from her.

anonymous– I think there are more important issues at hand like the economy and the war. Health care will be taken care of when the economy improves and people can find jobs that include health care. If that is the only reason you are voting for Obama then you obviously don’t care about the more important problems this country is facing. We need strong leadership, not empty promises of hope and change without laying out a plan to achieve those campaign promises. How is Obama going to give us this change? He does not say and he won’t answer that question when asked either!

Choose the one candidate who can unite us and move us forward.<<<

Obama is charismatic and inspirational. He can unite the people, but he’s so hard-line liberal he will never unite Congress and that’s a big difference. If ending gridlock is your priority you shoul really be voting for McCain who has shown a history of being able to work with both sides. If your priority is something else then of course vote accordingly, but Obama won’t bring unity to government I am sorry to say.
