Fox News Exclusive: Huckabee Campaign Calls for “Full Investigation” into Washington State Results
Richmond, VA-
Fox News has learned that the Huckabee campaign has called for a “full investigation” into the Washington State Caucus results, and are sending campaign lawyers to the state to help in that pursuit. Ed Rollins, Huckabee campaign chairman, directly challenged Washington State GOP Chairman Luke Essers move in announcing that John McCain had won the tight race with only 87.2 percent of the votes counted.
“The chairman showed very bad judgment in stopping the voting last night when announcing John McCain had won, when there was less that a 200 vote margin between the two candidates,” Rollins told Fox in an exclusive interview.” You never announce a vote, in my 40 years of politics I have never know anybody to announce a vote count before the vote is counted.”
Rollins was quick to say that they were not accusing the McCain campaign of any impropriety but that their issue was solely with the Esser’s “bad judgment”.
Fox News was given unprecedented access to a strategy session today, with the Huckabee campaign inner circle. Ed Rollins, the national campaign chairman, lead the meeting where the main topic was how to challenge the Washington caucus results. Rollins also said their attorneys have attempted to contact Essers but as of this writing he had not returned their phone calls.
According to the state tally,McCain won 26 percent of delegates, Huckabee garnered 24 percent.

And for the first time in my life I have no interest in the republican party, I have supported and given
my whole life for what, a bunch of lying losers that can’t even manage themselves let alone the country.
To the powers that be,”your sins will find you out”
As you all know, I am definitely no Huckabee supporter.
But as someone who went to the WA caucus yesterday, this declaring McCain the winner without counting all the votes is disgraceful and I encourage Huckabee to pursue whatever options are necessary. I would like to know what my state party leaders are trying to hide. And, I would like to see the county by county results!
That being said- the results of the popular vote in the caucus is meaningless. I can only give the example of my precinct where only 7 people showed up. The vote was McCain 4, Romney 2, Huckabee 1. But in the end, what we are asked to do is vote for delegates to the county convention. The precinct committee officer is automatically one of those delegates (which I disagree with) and he was a McCain supporter. Our precinct was allowed only one other delegate. Of the 7 people, 4 belonged to one family and they voted their son as delegate even though he was a Huckabee supporter and the other three for McCain.
So- even though McCain won the popular vote in my precinct (and maybe the state, but we won’t know until it is counted), it will in reality be a 50/50 split at our county convention. And neither delegate is obligated to vote for their candidate. The same is true of the delegates that will be elected at the county convention to go to state.
While I don’t like all of the super delegates on the Dem side- I am discouraged to see that the Republican party rules, at least in WA, are not very democratic (small d as in democracy). I don’t like winner take all at the state level and I don’t like that delegates are not obligated to stick to a candidate (when I nominated myself as a delegate, I told them I was for Romney, but since he has suspended, I would go with McCain since that was the majority. Each delegate should be given first then second choices if the first drops out or something.)
I’m with Dave- maybe it is time for a strong third party to emerge. The Conservative Party of America!
Wake up party leaders! We need to replace our liberal Democratic Governor, but the Republican candidate will be tarnished with this scandal even though he is not involved, that I know of.
Why does a state leave 13% of its votes uncounted? With only a 200-vote lead, there is virtually a 50-50 chance of either candidate winning. This is one of the most outrageous and scandalous displays of depriving US citizens of the right to vote that I know of. If McCain was so sure to win, why not finish the count? And if not, what then is the reason why someone stopped it? What would it have looked like to television viewers on Saturday if they had learned that Huckabee had beaten McCain in a state he seemingly should have won hands down?
I am glad to finally see some candidate who will stand up to scandalous electioneering. I pray to God that the truth all comes out about the Washington vote count halt, and that all who acted inappropriately (or possibly worse) are exposed before the whole nation.
I am going to vote for Huckabee because of consistent stand on Pro-Life issues. McCain supports Stem cell research and as a Catholic that is not morally acceptable to me.
I definitely think the votes need to be counted and maybe recounted. With only a couple hundred votes separating the two it is the only right thing to do. 13% have not been reported and that could make or break McCain.
The people of Washington deserve to have their vote counted regardless of the final result!
Huckster! STOP WHINING!!!!!!
WAH! WAH! WAH!
Huckabee has a lot of nerve after what he and McCain pulled in W. Virginia against Romney!!
STOP WHINING!!!!!

Earlier today Hillary Clinton discussed her new book coming out this month titled;
Sex-Lies-and if only they had Video Tape?
The difference wasn’t 200 votes it was 200 delegates and the remaining votes to be counted were from McCain strongholds.
The vote is going to be counted and completed by monday.
Huckabee is just whining.
Huckabee was down by 200 delegates meaning he was probably down by at least a thousand votes.
The rest of the vote was from King County. King County is Seattle. McCain was crushing Huckabee there.
With 13 percent left Huckabee was down by 2 percent meaning he would have had to have beat McCain by over 20 percent in areas McCain was crushing him.
The final results are going to be completed by monday.
It’s judgment, not “judgement” you right-wing dumbies.
I HOPE THE RUMOR THAT HUCK WILL HAVE A CABLE TV SHOW IS TRUE, I HOPE HE COMES ON OPPOSITE OF HANNITY AND KILLS HIM LIKE HANNITY DID HIM RIGHT BEFORE THE S CAROLINA VOTE=====PAYBACK TIME HE WILL BE FANASTIC IN ANYTHING HE ATTEMPTS

All Huckabee supporters please read this out loud. I’M SOFA KING WE TODD DID!! Thats right! Say it again.
I’M SOFA KING WE TODD DID!! Much better! Try it one more time. I’M SOFA KING WE TODD DID!!
Probably the first correct thing you’ve said in a long time:)
I DON’T WANT A CORRUPT PRESIDENT!!!
Please learn the truth about Huckaphony, the wolf in sheep’s clothing! He does not care about our country, it’s all about his ego. He wants to change the Constitution to his religious agenda and just flip-flopped recently saying he will boot out all illegal aliens in just months (major flip if you look at his record). He is also corrupt and unethical! So what if he is an ex-preacher?!!! ACTIONS ALWAYS SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS!
Once again, where is Ron Paul? He did 21% in WA.
There are now 5 or more states that Ron has done well in - but you would not know this by reading the internet or listening to cable news.
Why?
I would be interested in knowing who is voting for him and why.
He is getting over a 5% national aversge - that’s a lot of people voting.
Why the blackout? He is compelling in debates - when allowed to speak.
Is being against war - a Christian notion - behind this?
This is why Cacuses should be ruled unconstitutional. Caucuses are limited in its access to voters and cannot truly determine who the winner is.
I agree with Mr. Huckabee’s campaign in calling for a full investigation. Caucus leaders tend to be candidate loyalists and do not fully adhere to the caucus rules or at minimum manipulate the rules to their candidate’s advantage.
Look I’m not a Huckabee guy, I’m ready to line up for McCain….. but how this happen? When its that close you have to count every last vote to keep from having these kinds of questions.
Huckabee is a religious bigot. I couldnt care less what happens to him
Generally it’s spelled dummies, not dumbies you left wing moron.
I’ll tell you why they stopped - Ron Paul won!!!!
No Huckster, but the GOP has out-frauded the democrats in every turn thus far in the “election.”
Remember this all you folks who say you will not vote for McCain in the general election. If you do not, then you will have helped elect President Clinton or Obama.
WAs new caucus method is a joke. 1) Less than 1% of Wa State inhabitants participated in both Caucuses 2) You had to very resourceful and a own a computer if you were not a party insider to find your caucus meeting location.
WA politicians did not want the public to participate. I am convinced that we have no say until the general election and then it becomes the lesser of 2 evils.
Do you good folks remember West Virginia and the dirty tricks? How does it feel now Mike?
To Israel comment, “judgment or judgement”…either spelling is correct.
Oh you people give me heartburn! Of course you will calm down in another week and come to your senses. But be forewarned, some of your mouths will cause your ego to revolt later on and you’ll force yourself to do the wrong thing. Get a grip, and remember cool heads prevail. So far, Macain and Rommney have shown the cool heads, Huckabee comes across as a spoiled elitest from Little Rock, Ooops, that seems to go with the territory, maybe it’s in the water in the gov’s mansion.
chill dudes and get ready for a real intense election.
riley
Faux news is at it again. To bad nobody cares about News Corp any longer.
Keep on reporting bull crap stories, and ignoring Dr. Paul so you can elect your Democratic Nominee John McLame.
this is truely amazing that Huckster would be whinning about McCain pulling a trick. After all, didn’t this sort of back room secret handshake kind of behavior show up in West Virginia and benefit Huckandjivester. Really, all McCain was doing was using Huckaboob to ram Romney out and now that he is out, McCain no longer needs Huckabart so he is casting him to the side. McCain is due. After all, he is a prisoner of war, he flip-flops to reach out to liberals, has a bad temper, wants to give amnesty to a minimum of 11 million illegals, those are outstanding qualifications for president.
Neither McCain nor Huckabee have any appeal for me. there is nothing for conservatives in this race.
If the remaining ballots at 87.2% were to be divided by the same 26% to 24%, it wouldn’t make any difference. The question is, of course, would they divide that way. Only those who are in a position to make that prediction (WA state Republican officials) would have an idea of how things could turn out. I suspect that this is much ado about nothing.
BTW, I supported Fred Thompson to the end. Conservatives have missed an opportunity by listening to the MSM.
Ron paul actually WON Washington state, the news is not telling you because they do not want Ron Paul to win. Ron paul won LA. too even after throwing away votes for him for the 1st 30 minutes after the vote closed.
I have three words for true conservatives. RUTH BADER GINSBURG. That is the PRO ABORTION Supreme Court Justice that JOHN (reach across the aisle) MCCAIN voted to affirm to the court. I wont hold my nose in November but I will leave the booth a conservative non-voter for president.
I think it is interesting that this article makes no mention of who the other 50% of people voted for. Further, it fails to point out that even if Mccain won with 26% (unlikely) that still means THAT 74% OF THE REPUBLICANS (!) THAT CAUCUSED THAT DAY DIDN’T WANT MCCAIN. Frontrunner? Right…what a load of horse apples. Faux News strikes again.
Huckabee is only interested in Huckabee….this reminds me of 7 1/2 years ago when a Democrat just couldn’t accept the results.
YA! C’mon Hucklicker, YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!!! YOU’RE A WINNER!!!!!!!!
How funny is it watching all of the conservative elites race to “McCain-nedy” for a seat at his Presidential table? First the GOP shoved liberal conservative H. Bush down our throats just for me to lose the White House. Then they shoved moderate constrictive W. Bush down our throats and he spent us into the poor house. Now they are shoving a liberal conservative again, John McCain, who will try and persuade the conservative base to fall in line for him for no other reason. What a Joke! The Republican Party will not receive another dime from me or my support. The conservative elites think their base is liberal like McCain.
The liberal elites and conservative elites could not care less what their base thinks!
If the choice is between Obama or a McCain/Lieberman ticket, even a diehard Republican like me would vote for Obama. America simply cannot survive another 4 years of wealth and moral destroying wars like the ones John and Joe are planning to continue and start. John McCain is not a Republican, he is the Manchurian candidate, programmed by the NeoCons. If you look at his appearances, you will see him always with his handler Joe Liebermann in the background. And of all the people I ever had the pleasure or displeasure of traveling with, Joe Lieberman was by far the most unpleasant. If I ever met a glib and arrogant person, it was Joe.
But aside from his personality, their voting record shows us what a McCain/Lieberman ticket would bring us: More waste in social programs that benefit nobody but the welfare bureaucracy and more wasted lives and treasure in trying to make other countries and people to conform to whatever the NeoCons dream up next.
No thank you, I’ll wait for the party of Taft, Goldwater, and Reagan to reappear.
Who is Ron Paul?
What are you crying about?
This whole election is rigged.
Faux News has already picked your winner.
Just roll over and take it.
ore… Vote for Ron Paul!
The only truly free candidate.
I agree. Hucksterbee’s religious bigotry is disgusting. I hope he is shamed and sent packing to the two-bit state he came from. No more sleaze balls from Arkansas, PLEASE!
What a complete whiner! McCain could have complained about the states that Huckster won.
Pipe down or get out of the race Huck!
Haven’t we had enough politicians from Arkansas?
There are several spelling mistakes which a spellcheck should have caught: 1st paragraph, 4th line–”anounncing”; 3rd paragraph, second line “soley”; 4th paragraph, 2nd line–”lead” instead of “led.” The errors distract from the message.
Th real results:
1, Huckabee
2,Ron paul
3,McLame
If Paul did not want to surrender in Iraq, I would support him.
“Shelby”; you are an Anti-Christian BIGOT and a Liar !!!
VOTE HUCKABEE !!!
u idots hoo thnk spllng z imprtnt…jst shtup. u gt the mssge. qut piking on splng. crect splng dsnt chnge th mesge. Wnt vot fr McStupid ether.
Since “Democrat” is now the Socalist Party and “Republican” is now the Liberal party, maybe it is finally time for a Constitutional Party for those the two parties abandoned. We have held our collective noses long enough on election day.
I am a Precinct Committee Officer in Washington State.
I had a caucus in my home.
I know that in my district the neither McCain nor Huckabee won. Uncommitted won.
Uncommitted 92
McCain 90
Huckabee 63
Romney 47
Ron Paul 31 (approx. don’t remember for sure).
These are delegates to the county convention, not the state convention or national convention.
Conclusion: Republicans don’t want McCain or Huckabee.
Why are the voters considered stupid? Why do the parties feel they should have final say? Is it any wonder the people do not trust government anymore? This election is scaring me. I wonder if my vote is worthless. Let’s face it, the two old party wonks will take the prize. Why bother to vote?
“WA politicians did not want the public to participate. I am convinced that we have no say until the general election and then it becomes the lesser of 2 evils.”
That is *still* a vote for evil!
[...] …Calls for ‘Full Investigation’ into Washington State Results [...]
If the medical community ever found a real cure for dilusional paranoia and raging anti-semitism I would really be able to vote for Paul. It is a tragedy that the only presidential candidate that understands which domestic policies are necessary to save our country also understands what it means to be Neville Chamberlain reincarnated.
Washington voters deserve better. Now, every caucus attendee is wondering if their vote was counted. This was simply un-american behavior by the responsible parties.
By the way, it has been reported that the democrats had record turnout and great enthusiasm. Well, so did the Republicans–that just wasn’t reported.
It would be encouraging to see Fox News launch an investigation into this matter or at least demonstrate outrage at the disenfranchisement of (apparently 1200 or more) caucus attendees, who may or may not have voted for Mike Huckabee.
Heh Ed try Florida 2000
” According to the state tally,McCain won 26 percent of delegates, Huckabee garnered 24 percent.”
McCain, 26% + Huckabee 24% = 50%,
Ron Paul Got 50%
Ya recount,, I think Dr. Paul did better than this.
I was at the Republican caucus in the Kent-Covington area. There seemed to be a lot of Huckabee backers. I voted Mccain and my group voted primarily for Huckabee. I kind of wonder about the actual vote. However, this election, the primary also has votes. I will be glad when there is only a caucus and not this split.
Luke Esser was on stage cheering at a McCain rally on Friday night. I think this is entirely inappropriate for the man that is supposed to be the referee in this contest.
Esser is the man on the right.
http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/politics/2004173350_mccain09m.html
Ummmm, why is Huckabee getting lawyers involved? This was a caucus, not a primary. It was an internal GOP balloting process. I’d love to hear how the government courts can get involved here.
After all the vote recounting nonsense that went on in 2004 between Gregoire and Rossi, for Rollins not to have had a man on the ground in Washington watching the traffic may have cost Huck whatever slim chance he might have had. Rossi was robbed, then bent over and took it in a messy way. Let’s see if Ed Rollins “gots skills”, ’cause he’ll need ‘em if they’re dancing the same slimy jig they were in 2004.
Brief Overview of Congressman Paul’s Record:
He has never voted to raise taxes.
He has never voted for an unbalanced budget.
He has never voted for a federal restriction on gun ownership.
He has never voted to raise congressional pay.
He has never taken a government-paid junket.
He has never voted to increase the power of the executive branch.
He voted against the Patriot Act.
He voted against regulating the Internet.
He voted against the Iraq war.
He does not participate in the lucrative congressional pension program.
He returns a portion of his annual congressional office budget to the U.S. treasury every year.
My understanding is that what the WA GOP is reporting is preference results from a sign in sheet at the various caucuses and NOT the count of elected delegates and who they support. The elected delegates is the key number and until those reports come out, these other numbers are worthless. I understand the Ron Paul people are quite confident they won the delegate elections. I certainly applaud Huckabee wanting an investigation when it is obviously too early to declare any winner.
“Heh Ed try Florida 2000″
Why?
Every count done showed GWB as the winner. Oh, except if you are from Broward County, Florida, like I, and watched as votes for Gore were manufactured because there was a dimple on the card.
Let alone, only certain (strong democratic) counties were chosen for recount, in violation of the “equal protection” rights afforded by the FLORIDA STATE CONSTITUTION!
Remember, the states have rights, especially in how elections and recounts are conducted. Because of equal protection, you cannot recount in select counties, you have to recount the entire state, the exact same way. With a county like Broward, where the majority of registered voters are democratic, and most, if not all, elected officails are democrats, how can that recount be trusted? Especially since Boward county used one set of standards to qualify votes and neighboring counties, Palm Beach and Miami-Dade, had differing ones. On a state-wide election, not national, (remember, we are electing delegates to the Electoral College) how can equal protection be afforded every vote, when only certain counties were recounted?
In 2000, Florida went for Bush, period.
wow, dude - too many spelling errors.
As a Mike Huckabee suppoter i believe that this is the right thing to do. No matter what, especially in close races such as Washington you have to count every vote. I feel that if this goes the other way and Mike gets all the delegates that this would mean that Mike is still alive and is on a way to a come back.
Mike has proven that he is the most conservative and he should get all of the votes counted do to the fact that he has won the previous two states in Kansas and Louisiana, which Washington would mean a clean sweep and would send a message to Mccain that he in fact isn’t really bringing the repblican party together at all.
Someone should ask the state governor about vote fraud she knows something about it.
Every vote needs to be counted because lets not forget that Washington has also a primary as well and in fact if Huckabee would win now this would mean that he has a clear shot at winning again in the Primary.
Its still a shame that so far in this election the winners have been selected by very little bit of voters. All republicans need to come together and vote for the man who has the same views and values that relate to ours.
[...] http://embeds.blogs.foxnews.com/2008/02/10/fox-exclusive-huckabee-campaign-calls-for-full-investigat… Fin Gomez 2-10-2008 [...]
Wow! So much disinformation going on here!!
1) Huckabee is not accusing McCain of doing anything wrong. They are questioning Luke Esser’s declaration that McCain won without all the votes being counted.
2) Whether McCain wins this caucus or not, there is simply no excuse to stop counting at 9 PM with about 1500 votes uncounted, and the leader is ahead by 200+ votes. I read somewhere about it being hard to get all the results in from rural areas. I wonder how other states get it done?
3) Without a released statement explaining why the counting stopped (even if it will be resumed on Monday), it can only raise questions.
4) I respect them taking Sunday off, but wouldn’t a county by county (caucus by caucus) breakdown of the caucus votes already tallied be helpful to post, along with which counties still need to be counted?
All I want to see is some effort from the officials in WA to show a legitimate rationale for their decision to stop counting. The only thing I saw was that Esser didn’t think that Huckabee would have enough support in the remaining votes to overtake McCain. How long would it take to finish the job Saturday night? If that had happened, then there’s no questions.
Hey Ed and Mike! You don’t know the Land of Odz, in particular King County Washington. A mere 200 votes? They will count and count and count until it comes out the way they want it, dearies. You thought Florida was a mess? Or that Louisiana had the worst corruption (voting) in the USA? No siree bob! Washington and King County puts them all to shame. Get over it!
Let’s see, I bet the Huckster thinks Romney put the leadership up to it. Now he’ll be saying he isn’t just the only conservative in the race, but he is the only candidate. LOL
With all this corrupt garbage between McCain and Huckabee, Ron Paul is looking better and better.
Trying to conjure up a popular vote count from Washington State’s caucuses is an absurdity. The only thing that it impacts is the public perception of momentum. I’m a Republican precinct committeeman in Pierce County and I can tell you that there was no official vote count.
.
We listed a preference when we signed in at the door, but that meant nothing. What did matter was that we elected delegates to the COUNTY conventions. Attendance at my precinct was bigger than it’s been in years and Ron Paul had a plurality of support among the eleven attendees. He got two delegates, McCain got one, and Huckabee got one (plus mine as the PCO).
.
I was very surprised to see vote totals on Fox that night. considering that the only official thing the party officials were getting from the precinct caucuses were lists of delegates that didn’t even show their preferences. It’s not really a process that’s designed for instant assessment. We won’t know what it all means in terms of candidate support until the STATE convention.
.
I think this dust-up over the caucus results is a tempest in a teapot. The other issue about caucuses disenfranchising people is another red herring. Anyone who wants to have a voice in the party can easily have one by attending a caucus; and believe me, the Ron Paul people who dominated my little caucus in spite of my never seeing them before proved that.
VOTE RON PAUL FOR PRESIDENT IN 2008!; WRITE HIS NAME ON THE BALLOT IF YOU HAVE TO! THE MEDIA IS HIDING HIM BECAUSE THEY ARE SCARED! VOTE RON PAUL!
How can you stop the count and declare a winner before the count is complete???
You can take polls and make predicitons, but certainly not for a Republican official to declare
a winner before the ballots are counted sounds CROOKED to me.
It is akin to declaring NE PATRIOTS winners 5 minutes before the game ended during the Super Bowl…Same thing, isn’t it???
Fox News: Can you do a spelling and grammar check on this article please?
Israel…
I guess you’re a democrat, and a fine example at that. You didn’t know that “judgement” is spelled two ways, THEN you misspelled “dummies.” Wait…is it “misspelled” or “miss spelled”?
I have know idea.
Actually Ron Paul won. Apparently part of the grassroots decided not to share who they were for. (reason why the uncommitted category is so big)
Washington State Coordinator said Paul got double the delegates than anyone else. But hey, you’re Fox News, so you won’t believe it. Just you wait though.
You should promise to make it a big deal on your channel once it’s official. Hey, you’re Fox News, you don’t believe it, so you might as well make that promise.
Who received the other percentage points? Seems like you stopped short of finishing the story.
If Washington quit counting with almost 13% of the votes still uncounted and with such a slim difference between McCain and Huckabee, I would say the fair thing is to count ALL the votes over tomorrow morning. Ron Paul made a good showing in Washington too. Every vote counts, isn’t that what democracy is all about? I’m really getting tired of the media and the McCainanites telling Huckabee that he should bow out for the “good of the party”. Would you want a prize fighter to take a dive in the 3rd round? Nope, you would expect him to “go the distance”. And that is just what Mike Huckabee and Ron Paul are planning to do. They aren’t trying to divide the Republican party, they are trying to give the American voters the chance to participate in a democratic election. Why should only half the states in this country have the right to decide the outcome of such an important presidential race? Let’s see what the other half of the country has to say before we expect anyone to bow out gracefully. It ain’t over till it’s over!!!
was soley with the Esser’s “bad judgement”.
“solely” “judgment” (If you write judgement, then you should also use the English spelling for colour.)
campaign chairman, lead the meeting where
“led” … he might have been attempting to lead them but he led the meeting …
SHELBY,
YOU ARE SO SMART!!!! YOU SHOULD RUN FOR PRESIDENT GIRL!!!
IF MIKE HUCKABEE CAN WITH NO FISCAL PLAN…ANYONE CAN!!!! WHY IS THIS MAN STILL IN THE RACE?
Ed Rollins probably knocked his own teeth out. As good an excuse as everything else the McCain - Huckabee Dump Truck Suppress has come up with so far. This Republican — for the first time in my voting life — won’t be voting in ‘08 and I refuse once again to vote for a candidate I don’t support “to prevent the Democrats from winning.” If that’s the best the RINO wing of the GOP can come up with, let them lose, I’m not going to help save their RINO arses ever again. They’ve alraedy trashed Romney with their Dump Trucking, so, whatever there was about the goodness of the GOP (the non-RINO voters in the GOP), the RINOs have ridiculed and trashed. I won’t support them any longer and when they lose in the Fall, I won’t be available to accept their blame (I can preduct they will be blaming those Republicans who refused to support McCain or Huckabee, rather than accept personal responsibility for their own, RINO, nastiness). I think it’s time to force the RINOs out. If the GOP loses, so it loses. Let it regroup and win with a Conservative Ticket in 2012.
This is the type of crap Democrats pull. What the hell are you doing Huck?
