McCain camp “expected to fall short” in Kansas

It is full steam ahead for the McCain campaign despite today’s loss to Mike Huckabee in the Kansas caucus.

“Our campaign fully expected to fall short in the Kansas caucus. John McCain is the presumptive nominee in this race, our path forward is unchanged by today’s results, and our focus remains the same: uniting the Republican party to defeat Democrats in 2008,” campaign spokeswoman Jill Hazelbaker said.

The Arizona senator has never run well in caucus states, finishing fourth in the Iowa caucuses last month and losing to Huckabee and Mitt Romney in caucuses held on February 5th across the midwest. McCain, who currently has more than 700 delegates under his belt and leads Huckabee by almost 500, is focussed on Tuesday’s “Potomac Primary” in Maryland, Virginia and DC. The campaign is aiming to hit the necessary 1,200 delegates for the nomination in the next four to six weeks.

McCain is spending the weekend with family in California and has no public appearances scheduled until Monday.

Again I don’t think anyone realistically expected a Bible-belt state to go to McCain over Huckabee. I mean…good for Huck. Congratulations, but this is no real surprise. Now if Huck takes Washington, Maryland, or to some degree even Louisiana then THAT’S a surprise.

Yeah, I’m sure McCain’s campaign expected to fall short in KS. I doubt they expected to lost by almost 3 to 1.

It’s not about KS being a caucus state necessarily - it’s about conservatives and McCain-haters alike finally coalescing around Mike. If Huckabee continues this trend, especially in VA on Monday, he’ll not only stop McCain in his tracks, but he’ll gain enough momentum to spur him ahead of McCain before the Convention.

As a conservative this is the best news I have had since the campaign began.Huckabee the tax and spend former Governor of Arkansas embarrassing the liberal Senator McCain and vowing to stay in the race and maybe embarrass him some more.Huckabee can’t win-McCain can only lose! What’s that sound-Oh it’s millions of conservatives laughing our butts off!

Huckabee is learning how to become a national candidate, but for a southern Republican from Arkansas to win blue state like Washington or Maryland will likely take a lot of work. For example the national media has so far totally ignored Huckabee’s record as Governor on issues important to African-Americans. Huckabee doesn’t yet understand why that’s something he should have talked about in New Hampshire and Michigan.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution knew Huckabee’s record however and they had some coverage of he and Bill Clinton sitting with the King’s in Ebenezer Baptist Church on MLK day, the only candidate besides Barack Obama to attend a service there. The national media, which of course didn’t have a clue why Huckabee was there, went with a photo of Bill Clinton sleeping instead. However Huckabee won Georgia.

Huck wins Kansas by a 3-1 margin, and Romney still leads him in delegates…………The only sound we will really be hearing is that of an Obama inauguration parade at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.

Can’t say we didn’t deserve it, though. Huck supporters were told with wasted breath over and over and over that a vote for Huck is a vote for McCrap is a vote for the dems-and now that’s FACT!

Obama ‘08! You guys wanted it, so CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Guys, even if by a Godly miracle Huck gets the GOP nomination, he would be trounced by Obama/Clinton.

It’s politics, remember. Huck’s a good guy, but you won’t get moderates and independents to vote for him instead of Obama-it’s that simple.

Most independents would RUN from the idea of a Baptist preacher as Prez. Why? Remember someone named W Bush? Yeah, that guy. Religion is the last thing this group (among others)wants in the White House.

We can’t get a guy whose main credentials is a divinity degree into office. The GOP is done for four years, at least, so get used to it…….

The Republican party is heading for disaster. You did not see Democrats change their core values as ludicrious as they are after they got their butts handed to them in 04′. Why did we? Until we get back to our core values of securing our borders, language, and culture is when we will gain control of both houses of congress and the presidency. As much as the establishment has moved left, it may never happen again. I feel there should be no parties and should elect a man or women based on their record and plans for future policy. I guarantee you our economy would be up and our congress would actually get the necessary things done. If there has to be a party system, then there has to be a third party called the ” American” party.
