CBS) Last fall, Mike Huckabee taped an appearance on Kenneth Copeland’s popular television show. The theme: “Integrity of Character.”

“Treat people like you’d want to be treated,” Huckabee said.

Now some are raising issue with Huckabee’s character, principally his judgment, CBS News chief investigative correspondent Armen Keteyian reports.

They are focusing on his association with the televangelist, who has refused to cooperate with a Senate investigation into his ministry’s finances.

At issue, as reported by CBS News last week: whether millions of dollars in tax-exempt church donations have been used to bankroll a lavish lifestyle and a slew of private, for-profit businesses.

“Mr. Huckabee has terrible judgment because not only is he being closely associated with someone under this ethical cloud, but he’s refusing to distance himself,” said Melanie Sloan, executive director of Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics In Washington.

When Huckabee appeared on Copleland’s show, the evangelist said “Gov. Huckabee is not here in any kind of political role.”

After his appearance, like many guests, Huckabee stayed overnight at the ministry’s lavish 18,000 square foot lakefront home.

“All I know is he’s a delightful human being,” Huckabee said of Copeland.

But, before the show aired, Grassley’s probe went public. So Copeland went back to the ex-Arkansas governor with an offering.

“I said, ‘Governor, if this will negatively impact your campaign in any way, I won’t run it,’” Copeland said. “He hollered at me on the phone and said, ‘Are you kidding me?’”

CBS News has learned that Copeland’s family has donated more than $29,000 to Huckabee’s campaign.

And just three weeks ago - when Huckabee was on the financial ropes - Copeland helped raise thousands more from hundreds of ministers attending a meeting at his West Texas headquarters. Nobody is saying how much.

“If it’s legal, legitimate, honest contributions, I’m not sure what the premise would be for giving that money back,” Huckabee said.

For some, it may well be the premise of a presidential candidate not practicing what he preaches.

I am a regular watcher of fox news and give you many great compliments for your acurate and your honest reporting. But, you really are just like the rest of the news station when it comes to pushing your canidate for president forward. If the press would let the public decide who should be in the race then just maybe John Edwards, Mitt Romeny and others would have pushed forward and had a good chance to stay in the race. You all just keep pushing until you get your own way. Obama or Clinton is all you heard for months on democratic side and Romey and McCain on the republican side. Is this a fare to ignore the other canidates. Like most of my family, friends, and business clients, we think It’s not up to fox news or major networks to decide who the best canidate for president should be. Give Mike Huckabee a chance and back off, lets just see what the outcome will be without the constante push from the media.

Maybe you should change the name of your show from “You Decide” to “We Decide” It seems like you want to make the predictions to your preference. Why not let the PEOPLE decide for themselves who they want for president.

I’m really tired of the news media pushing it down my throat that I should vote for a particular person. I don’t appreciate the media demanding someone drop out just because they are not the candidate of their choice.

The message is loud and clear, the media has already picked who they want to be president. It’s not your choice to determine. It is up to the PEOPLE to vote for the candidate of their choice. By your negativity, you are compromising the candidates. If you put down someone long enough, people think maybe it is true—–but it is only your opinion, so keep it to yourself.

Privately you can support the candidate you want, but let the rest of the people suppor the candidate they want and stop telling us we are wrong in doing so.

In typical fashion when talking about Huckabee there is a mix-and-match approach to facts and falsehoods. the amount is wrong, the location is right, the allegation - “hasn’t cooperated” is not true. It is simple if you don’t like people of faith, lie about them or exagerate.

I don’t mind Huckabee’s supporters propping him up and supporting him but can those among them who feel the need to do so while bashing Romney or Thompson please stop their bashing. (Please understand that I’m not saying that all Huckabee supporters bash Romney or Thompson. The request is just for those who are bashing) Both Romney and Thompson are out of the race.

WAY TO GO KANSAS! Thank heavens everyone isn’t following the McPain parade. The voting isn’t over, and I believe Huckabee has the right to stay in this race if he wants to, at least until McPain either gets the votes needed or he does. Yes he is behind, but it isn’t for anyone else to tell either candidate to drop out. That is their decision, if they are losing at least give them the dignity to make that decision. I hope he doesn’t drop out, but I feel that is their decision. They are the ones going through the agony of being critisized everyday, and making promises that they most likely won’t remember after election day.
